La parole de Jésus : Vous l'avez vu, comprise par Philippe comme si Dieu pouvait exister pour lui à côté ou en dehors du Sauveur, lui inspire le désir de voir une théophanie ou révélation extraordinaire de Dieu, comme la demandait Moïse ; (Exode 33.18) et il exprime naïvement ce désir à son Maître.

Cela nous suffit, ajoute-t-il nous n'aurons plus aucun doute que le Père ne se révèle pleinement par toi.
