Un sacrifice d'actions de grâces. C'est ici encore la réglementation d'un genre de sacrifice déjà existant depuis la plus haute antiquité (Genèse 31.54 ; Exode 10.25 ; 18.12 ; 32.6). Mais ce n'est qu'une réglementation sommaire. Elle sera complétée plus tard (7.30 et suivants).

Les sacrifices d'actions de grâces avaient avec les holocaustes plusieurs points communs : victime sans défaut, imposition des mains, immolation, et aspersion du sang tout autour de l'autel. Mais ce qui les en distinguait surtout, c'était le repas qui terminait l'acte du sacrifice et auquel participaient celui qui offrait le sacrifice et tous les membres de sa famille lévitiquement purs (7.19 et suivants). A cela s'ajoutaient quelques différences secondaires :

  1. Les oiseaux étaient exclus, comme offrandes trop peu considérables pour servir d'aliment dans le repas ;
  2. les vaches, brebis et chèvres étaient agréées ;
  3. rien n'était stipulé relativement à l'âge de la victime ;
  4. au lieu d'être brûlée tout entière, la victime était divisée en trois parts : la graisse seule, une certaine graisse seulement était brûlée ; c'était la part de l'Eternel ; la poitrine et la cuisse droite étaient aussi offertes à Dieu, mais elles étaient rendues par lui aux sacrificateurs, dont c'était la part (7.30 et suivants) ; tout le reste était consommé dans le repas de famille, que complétaient les oblations dont parle le chapitre 2 et les libations mentionnées 7.12 et Nombres 15.4,5.

Les sacrifices d'actions de grâce font référence à Dieu, Celui qui donne toutes choses. Ces sacrifices, faits sur l'autel, engageaient à la fois les sacrificateurs et celui qui apportait l'offrande. On les appelait « sacrifices d'actions de grâce » car en eux, Dieu et Son peuple se réjouissaient ensemble, en témoignage de leur communion mutuelle. Ces sacrifices étaient offerts dans un esprit de supplication. Si un homme était en instance d'une demande de grâce, il devait ajouter à sa prière le type de sacrifice mentionné dans ce texte. Christ est notre « Paix », notre « Offrande de Paix » ; nous ne pouvons être exaucés dans nos prières, avec en plus la paix dans le cœur, que par Son intermédiaire. Ces sacrifices d'actions de grâce étaient aussi offerts à titre de reconnaissance pour les bienfaits accordés par l'Éternel. Nous devons continuellement offrir à Dieu des sacrifices de louange, par l'intermédiaire de Christ, notre « Paix » ; et cela sera plus agréable à l'Éternel que l'offrande d'un taureau ou d'un bœuf !
