World English Bible I will tell my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry."'

Quel admirable tableau ! Quelle peinture d'un caractère pris sur le fait, et qui se dévoile lui-même ! Cet homme est riche déjà et ses terres (grec) ont été fertiles.

"Ce moyen de s'enrichir est le plus innocent et pourtant dangereux." Bengel.

Ici commence l'embarras des richesses ; il faut délibérer : Que ferai-je ? la place ne suffit plus ; là est la difficulté. Enfin, après de longues réflexions, qui ont agité son esprit, il a trouvé : abattre ses greniers, en bâtir de plus grands, y amasser tout ce qu'il possède et qu'il appelle, avec la complaisance du propriétaire, mes récoltes, mes biens : telle est sa résolution.

La pensée des pauvres, du bien qu'il pourrait faire, n'aborde pas même son esprit ; l'égoïsme est complet. Maintenant il s'agit de jouir, et c'est à son âme, la partie affective de son être, le siège des passions, qu'il adresse son discours satisfait : Tu as pour beaucoup d'années de biens, repose-toi, mange, bois et réjouis-toi. Le bonheur terrestre est complet !
