World English Bible I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight.

Du sentiment de sa misère naît dans le cœur du fils repentant une ferme résolution ; c'est le second pas dans son relèvement.

- Malgré le trouble de sa conscience et le sentiment qu'il a de son indignité, il appelle encore son père, ce père qu'il a tant offensé. Jésus nous donne dans ce trait délicat toute une révélation de la miséricorde de Dieu, dont le sentiment persiste dans le cœur du pécheur repentant, et sans lequel il ne lui resterait que le désespoir.

Ceci encore appartient à sa résolution. Il n'ira pas, devant son père, invoquer comme excuses sa jeunesse, ses passions, ou les entraînements du monde ; non : j'ai péché, voilà le mot qui brise dans l'homme toutes les résistances de l'orgueil, et qu'il n'arrive à prononcer qu'après une lutte terrible contre cet orgueil.

Les deux termes : contre le ciel et contre toi, n'ont de sens distinct que dans la parabole. Ils se confondent dans l'application.
