Cette parabole se trouve dans un rapport intime avec le discours prophétique qui précède. C'est ce que Luc indique par l'expression qui lui est familière : Il leur disait aussi.

De plus la nécessité de la prière, de la prière persévérante et sans découragement, résulte des dangers qui environneront l'Eglise et chaque âme individuelle dans le dernier combat qui précédera l'avènement du Sauveur.

La position des chrétiens dans le monde leur fait du reste éprouver en tout temps ce pressant besoin de la prière ; sans elle chacun d'eux serait semblable à cette pauvre veuve, opprimée et destituée de toute protection. (verset 3)
