C'est pourquoi... C'est précisément parce que l'abßme dans lequel est tombé son peuple, est si profond, que l'Eternel ne veut pas l'y laisser. Impossible d'exprimer avec plus de force l'absolue gratuité du pardon et du salut.

Le Seigneur agira comme un mari qui conduit sa femme infidĂšle dans une solitude oĂč elle ne trouve plus rien de tout ce qui excitait ses convoitises, et oĂč il peut, en lui parlant avec affection, lui faire comprendre quel est l'amour de celui qu'elle a dĂ©laissĂ©.

Dans le dĂ©sert... Allusion au temps oĂč Dieu s'unit Ă  IsraĂ«l par la dĂ©livrance d'Egypte, l'alliance de SinaĂŻ et les miracles de conservation qu'il accomplit Ă  son Ă©gard jusqu'Ă  l'entrĂ©e en Canaan. Dieu rĂ©pĂ©tera sous une nouvelle forme ces mĂȘmes miracles d'amour. Et je vous mĂšnerai au dĂ©sert des peuples, dit de mĂȘme EzĂ©chiel (EzĂ©chiel 20.35, note).

AprÚs tous ces jugements, le Seigneur voudrait offrir plus de clémence à Israël. Si nous voulons vivre avec Christ, nous devons nous engager à prendre Son joug ; le cheminement qui suit la conversion procure autant de réconfort divin que d'affermissement des convictions.

Parfois, le Seigneur nous laisse errer dans les joies vaines de ce monde ; Il nous aide cependant, en fermant toutes les portes devant nous, nous laissant uniquement frapper à celle de la Grùce.

DĂšs les temps reculĂ©s, IsraĂ«l n'Ă©tait pas vraiment attachĂ© Ă  l'Éternel ; le peuple s'adressait Ă  Baal, « son Seigneur et son MaĂźtre » en faisant allusion Ă  l'autoritĂ© de l'idole plutĂŽt qu'Ă  l'amour et Ă  l'affection de l'Éternel. C'est lĂ , peut-ĂȘtre, une prophĂ©tie sur le retour de captivitĂ© de Babylone ; c'est peut-ĂȘtre, Ă©galement, un parallĂšle avec la conversion des Juifs Ă  Christ, pendant Son sĂ©jour ici-bas ; cela peut reprĂ©senter aussi la conversion gĂ©nĂ©rale des nations, dans le futur ; les croyants se doivent d'espĂ©rer davantage d'amour et de tendresse de la part du Dieu saint que n'en pourrait recevoir une Ă©pouse de la part de son mari attentionnĂ©.

Quand le peuple s'est dĂ©tournĂ© des idoles au profit de l'Éternel, personne ne leur a fait de tort. C'est une image des bĂ©nĂ©dictions et des privilĂšges de l'IsraĂ«l spirituel, de chaque vĂ©ritable croyant, participant de la droiture du Sauveur ; c'est aussi une prophĂ©tie annonçant la conversion des juifs Ă  Christ.

Nous voyons ici un engagement à marcher sans déshonorer notre Dieu : « tu es Mon peuple ». Si le serviteur d'une maison vit dans la débauche, quelle honte ce sera pour son maßtre ! Si Dieu nous appelle Ses enfants, nous pouvons dire en retour « Tu es notre Dieu » !

Que l'ùme incrédule abandonne les vaines pensées qui l'éloignent de l'amour divin. Dieu a réellement dit : « tu es Mon peuple ». Oui Seigneur, Tu es notre Dieu !

      17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem 'The throne of Yahweh;' and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of Yahweh, to Jerusalem. Neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.
      18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I gave for an inheritance to your fathers.
      19 "But I said, 'How I would put you among the children, and give you a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the armies of the nations!' and I said, 'You shall call me "My Father," and shall not turn away from following me.'

      21 A voice is heard on the bare heights, the weeping and the petitions of the children of Israel; because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten Yahweh their God.
      22 Return, you backsliding children, I will heal your backsliding. "Behold, we have come to you; for you are Yahweh our God.
      23 Truly in vain is help from the hills, the tumult on the mountains. Truly the salvation of Israel is in Yahweh our God.
      24 But the shameful thing has devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

      10 Hear the word of Yahweh, you nations, and declare it in the islands afar off; and say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as shepherd does his flock.
      11 For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.
      12 They shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, and to the new wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.
      13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

      21 Set up road signs, make guideposts; set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went: turn again, virgin of Israel, turn again to these your cities.
      22 How long will you go here and there, you backsliding daughter? for Yahweh has created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall encompass a man.
      23 Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, Yet again shall they use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring again their captivity: Yahweh bless you, habitation of righteousness, mountain of holiness.
      24 Judah and all its cities shall dwell therein together, the farmers, and those who go about with flocks.
      25 For I have satiated the weary soul, and every sorrowful soul have I replenished.
      26 On this I awakened, and saw; and my sleep was sweet to me.
      27 Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of animal.
      28 It shall happen that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so will I watch over them to build and to plant, says Yahweh.
      29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.
      30 But everyone shall die for his own iniquity: every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.
      31 Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
      32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them, says Yahweh.
      33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says Yahweh: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people:
      34 and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Yahweh; for they shall all know me, from their least to their greatest, says Yahweh: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.
      35 Thus says Yahweh, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea, so that its waves roar; Yahweh of Armies is his name:
      36 If these ordinances depart from before me, says Yahweh, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me forever.
      37 Thus says Yahweh: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then will I also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, says Yahweh.
