8 à 13 Le prophète vient de distinguer les hommes selon leurs rapports avec Dieu ; il les classe, dans le morceau suivant, d'après leur position sociale.

8 et 9 En premier lieu seront immolés les princes, c'est-à-dire les grands du royaume ; les fils du roi, non seulement les fils de Josias, qui étaient encore jeunes, mais les membres de la famille royale en général ; comparez Jérémie 36.26. Pour l'accomplissement de cette prophétie, voir 2Rois 25.7.

Ceux qui se vêtent de vêtements étrangers : les membres des familles riches, qui introduisaient dans le pays des mœurs en même temps que des cultes étrangers. Pour la mise en grande partie étrangère des femmes, déjà sous Achaz et Ezéchias, voir Esaïe 3.16-24.

Ceux qui sautent par dessus le seuil. On a pensé qu'il y avait là une allusion à un usage païen du genre de celui qui est mentionné 1Samuel 5.5 ; mais la fin du verset montre qu'il faut plutôt entendre par là l'acte de pénétrer violemment dans les maisons pour s'emparer du bien d'autrui. Il s'agirait alors de serviteurs royaux, qui pensent se rendre agréables à leur maître en lui procurant par la violence des trésors enlevés à ses sujets.
