Les chrétiens mentionnés dans cette épitre ne devaient pas estimer que leur connaissance des Écritures ou leurs bénédictions spirituelles leurs donnaient le moindre droit de mépriser leurs maîtres païens ; ils ne devaient pas supposer qu’il soit possible de désobéir à leurs ordres, ni de les dénigrer, en soulignant leurs manquements éventuels.

Les chrétiens de l’époque de Paul, ayant le privilège de servir des maîtres croyants, ne devaient pas se permettre de les priver du respect qui leur était dû, même s'ils étaient sur un pied d’égalité vis-à-vis de leurs privilèges religieux. Ils devaient toutefois les servir avec une grande assiduité, avec bonne humeur, à cause de leur foi en Christ, et en tant que « participants » de Son salut gratuit.

Nous devons rester prudents, face aux diverses insanités de ce monde, accordons par contre toute notre confiance en la Parole de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ ; sachons Lui accorder notre adhésion totale. D'une façon générale, ce sont les prétentieux qui possèdent le moins de connaissances, en fait, ils se surestiment eux-mêmes !

De l’orgueil proviennent les convoitises, les conflits, les railleries, les mauvais soupçons, les différends, avec toutes sortes de vaines subtilités ; ces personnes orgueilleuses, aux esprits corrompus et charnels, ignorent tout de la Vérité divine et du pouvoir de la Rédemption du Seigneur. Ces âmes ne recherchent en fait que les plaisirs et les privilèges de ce monde...
