World English Bible Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, 'As your god, Dan, lives;' and, 'As the way of Beersheba lives;' they will fall, and never rise up again."

Ceux qui jurent... Cette misère profonde sera la punition de leur culte déréglé. Le serment au nom d'une divinité est un acte d'invocation. Cet hommage, dû à Dieu seul, ils l'ont rendu au péché de Samarie, c'est-à-dire au veau d'or adoré à Béthel.

A côté du culte rendu à ce faux dieu au centre même du royaume est placé celui qui lui était rendu soit à l'extrémité nord d'Israël. à Dan, soit à l'extrémité sud de Juda, à Béerséba. Pour Dan, comparez 1Rois 12.29 ; 2Rois 10.29 ; pour Béerséba, comparez 1Samuel 3.20 ; 1Rois 4.25, etc. Il paraît qu'il y avait dans ce dernier endroit un sanctuaire semblable à ceux de Dan et de Béthel.

Par la voie de Béerséba, littéralement : par la vie de la voie... Les Septante ont traduit, peut-être d'après une autre leçon : par le dieu de Béerséba. Cependant, le terme de voie peut se prendre ici dans le sens où il est employé quelquefois dans le Nouveau Testament : manière d'adorer ; par exemple Actes 9.2 ; 24.22, etc. Le sens serait donc : jurer en disant : Aussi vrai que je souhaite que vive le culte que l'on célèbre à Béerséba !
