Vengeance, revanche : comme 24.8. On peut, dit Calvin, objecter : En quoi cela nous regarde-t-il, que nos ennemis soient punis ? à quoi cela nous sert-il ? devons-nous nous délecter des souffrances de nos adversaires ? Le prophète ajoute : cela arrivera pour notre salut ; car la vengeance que Dieu tire des impies est étroitement liée au salut des fidèles. Le jugement des oppresseurs et la délivrance des opprimés sont inséparables ; aussi, même dans le Nouveau Testament, le peuple de Dieu peut-il attendre d'être vengé de ses ennemis (Luc 18.7).
