Segond 21 Méprisé et délaissé par les hommes, homme de douleur, habitué à la souffrance, il était pareil à celui face auquel on détourne la tête : nous l'avons méprisé, nous n'avons fait aucun cas de lui.

World English Bible He was despised, and rejected by men; a man of suffering, and acquainted with disease. He was despised as one from whom men hide their face; and we didn't respect him.

Le prophète a sans doute devant les yeux l'image d'un de ces lépreux auxquels la loi ordonnait de se voiler la face devant leurs semblables (Lévitique 13.45). Mais ici, ce sont les autres hommes qui se couvrent pour ne pas le voir, tant son aspect inspire d'horreur. Comparez 49.7 ; 52.14.
