C'était un scribe. Par Jérémie 8.8 (voir la note), nous voyons qu'alors déjà les scribes formaient une classe distincte parmi le peuple. Mais Esdras est appelé (verset 14) le scribe parce qu'il était plus versé dans la loi de Moïse que tous ses contemporains. Voir verset 10.
