World English Bible Then he said to them, "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out laborers into his harvest.

D'après cet évangéliste, ce fut au moment d'envoyer les douze dans leur première mission que Jésus fit entendre cette exhortation. Ne pourrait-on pas admettre que Jésus a prononcé plus d'une fois cette courte et grave sentence ?

Les instructions qu'il va donner aux soixante-dix disciples ont été pour la plupart répétées également : quelques-unes, en effet se retrouvent, d'après Luc lui-même, (Luc 9.35) adressées aux douze.

Par ce préambule Jésus veut faire sentir à ceux qu'il envoie l'importance du moment actuel et l'opportunité de la mission qu'il leur confie.
