  1 Voici la généalogie de Jésus-Christ, fils de David, fils d'Abraham.
  
  2 Abraham eut pour fils Isaac ; Isaac eut Jacob ; Jacob eut Juda et ses frères ;
  
  3 Juda eut Pérets et Zérach de Tamar ; Pérets eut Hetsrom ; Hetsrom eut Aram ;
  
  4 Aram eut pour fils Aminadab ; Aminadab eut Nachshon ; Nachshon eut Salmon ;
  
  5 Salmon eut Boaz de Rahab ; Boaz eut Obed de Ruth ;
  
  6 Obed eut pour fils Isaï ; Isaï eut David. Le roi David eut Salomon de la femme d'Urie ;
  
  7 Salomon eut pour fils Roboam ; Roboam eut Abija ; Abija eut Asa ;
  
  8 Asa eut pour fils Josaphat ; Josaphat eut Joram ; Joram eut Ozias ;
  
  9 Ozias eut pour fils Jotham ; Jotham eut Achaz ; Achaz eut Ezéchias ;
  
  10 Ezéchias eut pour fils Manassé ; Manassé eut Amon ; Amon eut Josias ;
  
  11 Josias eut pour descendants Jéconias et ses frères, à l’époque de la déportation à Babylone.
  
  12 Après la déportation à Babylone, Jéconias eut pour fils Shealthiel ; Shealthiel eut Zorobabel ;
  
  13 Zorobabel eut pour fils Abiud ; Abiud eut Eliakim ; Eliakim eut Azor ;
  
  14 Azor eut pour fils Sadok ; Sadok eut Achim ; Achim eut Eliud ;
  
  15 Eliud eut pour fils Eléazar ; Eléazar eut Matthan ; Matthan eut Jacob ;
  
  16 Jacob eut pour fils Joseph, l'époux de Marie, de laquelle est né Jésus, qu’on appelle le Christ.
  
  17 Il y a donc en tout 14 générations depuis Abraham jusqu'à David, 14 générations depuis David jusqu'à la déportation à Babylone et 14 générations depuis la déportation à Babylone jusqu'au Christ.
  
  18 Voici de quelle manière arriva la naissance de Jésus-Christ. Marie, sa mère, était fiancée à Joseph ; or, avant qu'ils aient habité ensemble, elle se trouva enceinte par l'action du Saint-Esprit.
  
  19 Joseph, son fiancé, qui était un homme juste et qui ne voulait pas l’exposer au déshonneur, se proposa de rompre secrètement avec elle.
  
  20 Comme il y pensait, un ange du Seigneur lui apparut dans un rêve et dit : « Joseph, descendant de David, n’aie pas peur de prendre Marie pour femme, car l'enfant qu’elle porte vient du Saint-Esprit.
  
  21 Elle mettra au monde un fils et tu lui donneras le nom de Jésus car c'est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés. »
  
  22 Tout cela arriva afin que s'accomplisse ce que le Seigneur avait annoncé par le prophète :
  
  23 La vierge sera enceinte, elle mettra au monde un fils et on l’appellera Emmanuel, ce qui signifie « Dieu avec nous ».
  
  24 A son réveil, Joseph fit ce que l'ange du Seigneur lui avait ordonné et il prit sa femme chez lui,
  
  25 mais il n'eut pas de relations conjugales avec elle jusqu'à ce qu'elle ait mis au monde un fils [premier-né] auquel il donna le nom de Jésus.

  1 Voici la liste des ancêtres de Jésus-Christ, descendant de David, lui-même descendant d’Abraham.
  
  2 Abraham fut père d’Isaac, Isaac de Jacob, Jacob de Juda et de ses frères ;
  
  3 Juda fut père de Pérès et de Zéra – leur mère était Tamar –, Pérès fut père de Hesron, Hesron de Ram ;
  
  4 Ram fut père d’Amminadab ; Amminadab de Nachon ; Nachon de Salman ;
  
  5 Salman fut père de Booz – Rahab était sa mère –, Booz fut père d’Obed – Ruth était sa mère –, Obed fut père de Jessé,
  
  6 et Jessé du roi David. David fut père de Salomon – sa mère avait été la femme d’Urie – ;
  
  7 Salomon fut père de Roboam, Roboam d’Abia, Abia d’Asaf ;
  
  8 Asaf fut père de Josaphat, Josaphat de Joram, Joram d’Ozias ;
  
  9 Ozias fut père de Yotam, Yotam d’Akaz, Akaz d’Ézékias ;
  
  10 Ézékias fut père de Manassé, Manassé d’Amon, Amon de Josias ;
  
  11 Josias fut père de Yekonia et de ses frères, à l’époque où les Israélites furent déportés à Babylone.
  
  12 Après que les Israélites eurent été déportés à Babylone, Yekonia fut père de Chéaltiel et Chéaltiel de Zorobabel ;
  
  13 Zorobabel fut père d’Abihoud, Abihoud d’Éliakim ; Éliakim d’Azor ;
  
  14 Azor fut père de Sadok, Sadok d’Achim ; Achim d’Élioud ;
  
  15 Élioud fut père d’Éléazar, Éléazar de Matthan, Matthan de Jacob ;
  
  16 Jacob fut père de Joseph, l’époux de Marie ; c’est d’elle qu’est né Jésus, appelé le Messie.
  
  17 Il y eut donc en tout quatorze générations depuis Abraham jusqu’à David, puis quatorze depuis David jusqu’à l’époque où les Israélites furent déportés à Babylone, et quatorze depuis cette époque jusqu’à la naissance du Messie.
  
  18 Voici dans quelles circonstances Jésus-Christ est né. Marie, sa mère, était fiancée à Joseph ; mais avant qu’ils aient vécu ensemble, elle se trouva enceinte par l’action du Saint-Esprit.
  
  19 Joseph, son fiancé, était un homme droit et ne voulait pas la dénoncer publiquement ; il décida de rompre secrètement ses fiançailles.
  
  20 Comme il y pensait, un ange du Seigneur lui apparut dans un rêve et lui dit : « Joseph, descendant de David, ne crains pas d’épouser Marie, car c’est par l’action du Saint-Esprit qu’elle attend un enfant.
  
  21 Elle mettra au monde un fils, que tu appelleras Jésus, car il sauvera son peuple de ses péchés. »
  
  22 Tout cela arriva afin que se réalise ce que le Seigneur avait dit par le prophète :
  
  23 « La vierge sera enceinte et mettra au monde un fils, qu’on appellera Emmanuel. » – Ce nom signifie « Dieu est avec nous ». –
  
  24 Quand Joseph se réveilla, il agit comme l’ange du Seigneur le lui avait ordonné et prit Marie comme épouse.
  
  25 Mais il n’eut pas de relations avec elle jusqu’à ce qu’elle ait mis au monde son fils, que Joseph appela Jésus.

  2 Abraham became the father of Isaac. Isaac became the father of Jacob. Jacob became the father of Judah and his brothers.

  8 Asa became the father of Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat became the father of Joram. Joram became the father of Uzziah.
  
  9 Uzziah became the father of Jotham. Jotham became the father of Ahaz. Ahaz became the father of Hezekiah.
  
  10 Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh. Manasseh became the father of Amon. Amon became the father of Josiah.
  
  11 Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.
  
  12 After the exile to Babylon, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel. Shealtiel became the father of Zerubbabel.
  
  13 Zerubbabel became the father of Abiud. Abiud became the father of Eliakim. Eliakim became the father of Azor.
  
  14 Azor became the father of Sadoc. Sadoc became the father of Achim. Achim became the father of Eliud.
  
  15 Eliud became the father of Eleazar. Eleazar became the father of Matthan. Matthan became the father of Jacob.
  
  16 Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus , who is called Christ.
  
  17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the exile to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the carrying away to Babylon to the Christ, fourteen generations.
  
  18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this; for after his mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
  
  19 Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly.
  
  20 But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
  
  21 She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins."
  
  22 Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
  
  23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son. They shall call his name Immanuel"; which is, being interpreted, "God with us."
  
  24 Joseph arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself;
  
  25 and didn't know her sexually until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He named him Jesus.
