World English Bible It will happen in that day that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

Comparez Deutéronome 30.1-5, où Moïse prophétise déjà le retour de l'exil, en même temps qu'il annonce l'exil lui-même (Deutéronome chapitres 28 et 29).

Une seconde fois : comme il l'a étendue une première fois pour faire sortir son peuple d'Egypte (10.26 ; comparez Exode 3.20 ; 7.4, etc.). La grande délivrance du passé demeure le type de toutes les délivrances subséquentes jusqu'à la dernière, le salut messianique (voyez versets 15 et 16).

Pour acquérir... : même expression que Exode 15.16. Israël allant en exil est vendu aux païens à cause de ses crimes ; c'est pour lui une nouvelle servitude d'Egypte ; Dieu doit donc le racheter une seconde fois (52.3 ; Deutéronome 28.68 ; Jérémie 23.7-8).

Parmi les pays que le prophète énumère, l'Assyrie et l'Egypte occupent le premier rang : ce sont les deux grandes puissances qui, de son temps, menaçaient directement Israël (7.18) et qu'Esaïe mentionne souvent pour désigner le monde païen tout entier (19.23-25 ; 27.13) ; les dix tribus venaient précisément d'être emmenées captives en Assyrie. A l'Egypte se rattachent : les deux pays méridionaux de Pathros (la Haute-Egypte ou Thébaïde) et de Cus (l'Ethiopie, plus au sud encore ; voir 18.1, note) ; à l'Assyrie, les deux contrées orientales d'Elam (l'Elymaïs, au sud de la Médie, entre la Mésopotamie et la Perse) et de Sinéar (la Babylonie). Enfin, au nord, Hamath, qui représente la Syrie (voir 10.9, note), et, à l'occident, les îles de la mer (la Grèce, l'Italie, et en général tout le bassin de la Méditerranée). Déjà au temps d'Esaïe, des exilés israélites pouvaient se trouver dans tous ces pays, soit qu'ils y eussent été déportés directement, soit qu'on les y eût vendus comme esclaves.       18 Violence shall no more be heard in your land, desolation nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.
      19 The sun shall be no more your light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light to you: but Yahweh will be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.

      21 Your people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

      37 Thus says Yahweh: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then will I also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, says Yahweh.
      38 Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that the city shall be built to Yahweh from the tower of Hananel to the gate of the corner.
      39 The measuring line shall go out further straight onward to the hill Gareb, and shall turn about to Goah.
      40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy to Yahweh; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more forever.

      24 Don't consider what this people has spoken, saying, The two families which Yahweh chose, he has cast them off? thus do they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
      25 Thus says Yahweh: If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;
      26 then will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them.

      24 For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.
      25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
      26 I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
      27 I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my ordinances, and do them.
      28 You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

      Ezéchiel 37

      1 The hand of Yahweh was on me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of Yahweh, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.
      2 He caused me to pass by them all around: and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and behold, they were very dry.
      3 He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? I answered, Lord Yahweh, you know.
      4 Again he said to me, Prophesy over these bones, and tell them, you dry bones, hear the word of Yahweh.
      5 Thus says the Lord Yahweh to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.
      6 I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh on you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
      7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.
      8 I saw, and, behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.
