Le prophète voit accourir d'abord les peuples de l'Orient (représentés par diverses tribus de l'Arabie), puis ceux de l'Occident (les îles, les navires de Tarsis). Ce concours des peuples a un but religieux : c'est pour faire des offrandes àl'Eternel qu'ils apportent leurs trésors. On rencontre dans les chapitres 1 à 33 maintes prophéties analogues, quoique moins générales : 18.7 ; 19.21-23 ; 23.18 ; comparez 45.14. La visite des mages (Matthieu 2.11) est un accomplissement typique de ces prophéties.

Madian (issu d'Abraham et de Kétura) et Epha (fils de Madian, Genèse 25.2) habitaient au nord de l'Arabie, sur la rive orientale de la mer Rouge.

Schéba (ou Séba) ne doit pas être confondu avec le pays de Séba mentionné 43.3 (comparez 45.14) ; l'orthographe des deux noms diffère en hébreu ; voyez les deux pays mentionnés Psaumes 72.10. Il s'agit ici de l'Yémen ou Arabie Heureuse, contrée très riche en or, en encens et en pierres précieuses, dont elle faisait un commerce étendu ; patrie de la fameuse reine de Séba (1Rois 10.1-29).

Tous (et non leurs princes seulement) viennent : car il y a (en Sion) plus que Salomon.
