Ils doivent fuir les mœurs des Egyptiens du milieu desquels ils sortent, et des Cananéens au-devant desquels ils marchent. En Egypte, les unions entre proches parents étaient fréquentes, pour ne rien dire du désordre des mœurs qui y était extrême. La corruption des Cananéens était maintenant arrivée à ce comble annoncé dans Genèse 14.16. Que l'on regardât en arrière ou en avant, un avertissement énergique était motivé.
