World English Bible "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared--whose will they be?'

Mais...il y a un mais ! Dieu lui dit, "sinon par révélation, au moins par un secret jugement." Bengel.

Et quel discours en réponse à celui du riche ! Insensé ! lui, à qui son raisonnement (versets 18,19) paraissait le comble de la sagesse ! Cette nuit même, à l'heure inattendue des ténèbres, du sommeil, de la sécurité, ton âme te sera redemandée !

Cette âme que tu croyais t'appartenir (mon âme, verset 18), à qui tu promettais un long bonheur, (grec) ils la redemandent de toi. Qui ? ni les voleurs, ni les anges. Le sujet est indéterminé ; c'est notre : on ; en réalité il s'agit de Dieu, le souverain Maître. (Comparer verset 48)

Et ces possessions que le riche appelait ses biens, à qui seront-elles ? Il l'ignore peut-être, mais il est assuré d'une chose : elles ne seront plus à lui.
