1 Now it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.2 This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.3 All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;5 to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.6 It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth.7 She brought forth her firstborn son, and she wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.Un ange apparaît à des bergers
8 There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.9 Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.10 The angel said to them, "Don't be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.11 For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.12 This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough."13 Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying,14 "Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men."Les bergers vont à Bethléem
15 It happened, when the angels went away from them into the sky, that the shepherds said one to another, "Let's go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us."16 They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.17 When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.18 All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.19 But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.Jésus reçoit son nom

22 When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord"),24 and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."25 Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.27 He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,28 then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,29 "Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;30 for my eyes have seen your salvation,31 which you have prepared before the face of all peoples;32 a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel."La prophétie de Siméon
33 Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,34 and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.35 Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."Anne, la prophétesse
36 There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,37 and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn't depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.38 Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.Le retour à Nazareth
39 When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.40 The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.Jésus à douze ans dans le temple
41 His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast,43 and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn't know it,44 but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day's journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.45 When they didn't find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.46 It happened after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.47 All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.48 When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you."49 He said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Didn't you know that I must be in my Father's house?"50 They didn't understand the saying which he spoke to them.51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. -

1 En ce temps-là on publia un édit de César Auguste, pour faire le dénombrement des habitants de toute la terre.2 Ce premier dénombrement se fit pendant que Quirinus était gouverneur de Syrie.3 Ainsi tous allaient pour être enregistrés, chacun dans sa ville.4 Joseph aussi monta de Galilée en Judée, de la ville de Nazareth à la ville de David, nommée Bethléhem, parce qu'il était de la maison et de la famille de David,5 Pour être enregistré avec Marie son épouse, qui était enceinte.6 Et pendant qu'ils étaient là, le temps auquel elle devait accoucher arriva.7 Et elle mit au monde son fils premier-né, et elle l'emmaillota, et le coucha dans une crèche, parce qu'il n'y avait point de place pour eux dans l'hôtellerie.Un ange apparaît à des bergers
8 Or, il y avait dans la même contrée des bergers qui couchaient aux champs, et qui gardaient leurs troupeaux pendant les veilles de la nuit.9 Et voici un ange du Seigneur se présenta à eux, et la gloire du Seigneur resplendit autour d'eux, et ils furent saisis d'une grande peur.10 Alors l'ange leur dit : N'ayez point de peur ; car je vous annonce une grande joie, qui sera pour tout le peuple ;11 C'est qu'aujourd'hui, dans la ville de David, un Sauveur, qui est le Christ, le Seigneur, vous est né.12 Et ceci vous servira de signe : Vous trouverez le petit enfant emmailloté et couché dans une crèche.13 Et au même instant il y eut avec l'ange une multitude de l'armée céleste, louant Dieu et disant :14 Gloire à Dieu, dans les lieux très hauts ; paix sur la terre, bonne volonté envers les hommes !Les bergers vont à Bethléem
15 Et quand les anges se furent retirés d'avec eux dans le ciel, les bergers se dirent les uns aux autres : Allons donc jusqu'à Bethléhem, et voyons ce qui est arrivé, ce que le Seigneur nous a fait connaître.16 Ils y allèrent donc en hâte, et trouvèrent Marie, et Joseph, et le petit enfant, qui était couché dans la crèche.17 Et l'ayant vu, ils publièrent ce qui leur avait été dit touchant ce petit enfant.18 Et tous ceux qui les entendirent, étaient dans l'admiration de ce que les bergers leur disaient.19 Et Marie conservait toutes ces choses, les repassant dans son coeur.20 Et les bergers s'en retournèrent, glorifiant et louant Dieu de tout ce qu'ils avaient entendu et vu, conformément à ce qui leur avait été dit.Jésus reçoit son nom
21 Quand les huit jours furent accomplis pour circoncire l'enfant, il fut appelé JÉSUS, nom qui lui avait été donné par l'ange, avant qu'il fût conçu dans le sein de sa mère.Jésus est présenté dans le temple
22 Et quand les jours de leur purification, selon la loi de Moïse, furent accomplis, on porta l'enfant à Jérusalem, pour le présenter au Seigneur,23 Selon qu'il est écrit dans la loi du Seigneur : Tout mâle premier-né sera consacré au Seigneur ; et pour offrir en sacrifice,24 Selon ce qui est prescrit dans la loi du Seigneur, une paire de tourterelles, ou deux pigeonneaux.25 Il y avait à Jérusalem un homme qui s'appelait Siméon ; cet homme était juste et pieux, il attendait la consolation d'Israël ; et le Saint-Esprit était sur lui.26 Et il avait été averti divinement par le Saint-Esprit qu'il ne mourrait point, qu'auparavant il n'eût vu le Christ du Seigneur.27 Il vint au temple par l'Esprit, et comme le père et la mère apportaient le petit enfant Jésus, pour faire à son égard ce qui était en usage selon la loi,28 Il le prit entre ses bras, et bénit Dieu, et dit :29 Seigneur, tu laisses maintenant aller ton serviteur en paix, selon ta parole ;30 Car mes yeux ont vu ton salut,31 Que tu as préparé à la face de tous les peuples,32 La lumière qui doit éclairer les nations, et la gloire de ton peuple d'Israël.La prophétie de Siméon
33 Et Joseph et sa mère étaient dans l'admiration des choses qu'on disait de lui.34 Et Siméon les bénit, et dit à Marie sa mère : Voici, cet enfant est mis pour la chute et le relèvement de plusieurs en Israël, et pour être en butte à la contradiction ;35 En sorte que les pensées du coeur de plusieurs seront découvertes ; et pour toi une épée te transpercera l'âme.Anne, la prophétesse
36 Il y avait aussi Anne la prophétesse, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d'Ascer ; elle était fort avancée en âge, et elle avait vécu avec son mari, sept ans, depuis sa virginité.37 Elle était veuve, âgée d'environ quatre-vingt-quatre ans, et elle ne sortait point du temple, servant Dieu nuit et jour en jeûnes et en prières.38 Étant survenue à cette heure, elle louait aussi le Seigneur, et elle parlait de Jésus à tous ceux de Jérusalem qui attendaient la délivrance d'Israël.Le retour à Nazareth
39 Et après qu'ils eurent accompli tout ce qui est ordonné par la loi du Seigneur, ils retournèrent en Galilée, à Nazareth, leur ville.40 Et l'enfant croissait et se fortifiait en esprit, étant rempli de sagesse ; et la grâce de Dieu était sur lui.Jésus à douze ans dans le temple
41 Or, son père et sa mère allaient tous les ans à Jérusalem, à la fête de Pâque.42 Et quand il eut douze ans, ils montèrent à Jérusalem, selon la coutume de la fête.43 Lorsque les jours de la fête furent achevés, comme ils s'en retournaient, l'enfant Jésus resta à Jérusalem ;44 Et Joseph et sa mère ne s'en aperçurent point. Mais, pensant qu'il était avec leurs compagnons de voyage, ils marchèrent une journée, puis ils le cherchèrent parmi leurs parents et ceux de leur connaissance ;45 Et ne le trouvant point, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem pour le chercher.46 Et au bout de trois jours ils le trouvèrent dans le temple, assis au milieu des docteurs, les écoutant et leur faisant des questions.47 Et tous ceux qui l'entendaient, étaient ravis de sa sagesse et de ses réponses.48 Quand ses parents le virent, ils furent étonnés ; et sa mère lui dit : Mon enfant, pourquoi as-tu ainsi agi avec nous ? Voici ton père et moi, nous te cherchions, étant fort en peine.49 Et il leur dit : Pourquoi me cherchiez-vous ? Ne saviez-vous pas qu'il me faut être occupé aux affaires de mon Père ?50 Mais ils ne comprirent point ce qu'il leur disait.51 Il s'en alla ensuite avec eux, et vint à Nazareth, et il leur était soumis. Et sa mère conservait toutes ces choses dans son coeur.52 Et Jésus croissait en sagesse, en stature et en grâce, devant Dieu et devant les hommes. -

1 En ce temps-là, l’empereur Auguste publia un édit qui ordonnait le recensement de tous les habitants de l’Empire.2 Ce recensement, le premier du genre, eut lieu à l’époque où Quirinius était gouverneur de la province de *Syrie.3 Tout le monde allait se faire recenser, chacun dans la localité dont il était originaire.4 C’est ainsi que Joseph, lui aussi, partit de *Nazareth et monta de la *Galilée en *Judée, à Bethléhem, la ville de *David : il appartenait, en effet, à la famille de *David.5 Il s’y rendit pour se faire recenser avec Marie, sa fiancée, qui attendait un enfant.6 Or, durant leur séjour à Bethléhem, arriva le moment où Marie devait accoucher.7 Elle mit au monde un fils : son premier-né. Elle lui mit des langes et le coucha dans une mangeoire parce qu’il n’y avait pas de place pour eux dans la pièce réservée aux hôtes.Un ange apparaît à des bergers
8 Dans les champs environnants, des bergers passaient la nuit pour garder leurs troupeaux.9 Un *ange du Seigneur leur apparut et la gloire du Seigneur resplendit autour d’eux. Une grande frayeur les saisit.10 Mais l’ange les rassura : —N’ayez pas peur : je vous annonce une nouvelle qui sera pour tout le peuple le sujet d’une très grande joie.11 Un *Sauveur vous est né aujourd’hui dans la ville de David ; c’est lui le *Messie, le Seigneur.12 Et voici à quoi vous le reconnaîtrez : vous trouverez un nouveau-né dans ses langes et couché dans une mangeoire.13 Et tout à coup apparut, aux côtés de l’ange, une multitude d’anges de l’armée céleste qui chantaient les louanges de Dieu :14 Gloire à Dieu au plus haut des cieux ! Et paix sur la terre aux hommes qu’il aime.Les bergers vont à Bethléem
15 Quand les anges les eurent quittés pour retourner au ciel, les bergers se dirent l’un à l’autre : —Allons donc jusqu’à Bethléhem pour voir ce qui est arrivé, ce que le Seigneur nous a fait connaître.16 Ils se dépêchèrent donc d’y aller et trouvèrent Marie et Joseph avec le nouveau-né couché dans une mangeoire.17 Quand ils le virent, ils racontèrent ce qui leur avait été dit au sujet de cet enfant.18 Tous ceux qui entendirent le récit des bergers en furent très étonnés.19 Marie, elle, conservait le souvenir de toutes ces paroles et y repensait souvent.20 Les bergers s’en retournèrent, louant et glorifiant Dieu au sujet de tout ce qu’ils avaient vu et entendu : c’était bien ce que l’ange leur avait annoncé.Jésus reçoit son nom
21 Lorsque, huit jours plus tard, arriva le moment de *circoncire l’enfant, on lui donna le nom de Jésus : c’était le nom que l’*ange avait indiqué avant qu’il ne fût conçu.Jésus est présenté dans le temple
22 Puis, une fois passé le temps prescrit par la *Loi de *Moïse pour leur *purification, les parents de Jésus l’emmenèrent à *Jérusalem pour le présenter au Seigneur.23 En effet, il est écrit dans la Loi du Seigneur : Tout garçon premier-né sera consacré au Seigneur.24 Ils venaient aussi offrir le sacrifice requis par la Loi du Seigneur : une paire de tourterelles ou deux jeunes pigeons.25 Il y avait alors, à Jérusalem, un homme appelé Siméon. C’était un homme droit et pieux ; il vivait dans l’attente du salut d’*Israël, et le Saint-Esprit reposait sur lui.26 L’Esprit Saint lui avait révélé qu’il ne mourrait pas avant d’avoir vu le *Messie, l’Envoyé du Seigneur.27 Poussé par l’Esprit, il vint au *Temple. Quand les parents de Jésus apportèrent le petit enfant pour accomplir les rites qu’ordonnait la Loi,28 Siméon le prit dans ses bras et loua Dieu en disant :29 Maintenant, Seigneur, tu laisses ton serviteur s’en aller en paix : tu as tenu ta promesse ;30 car mes yeux ont vu le *Sauveur qui vient de toi,31 et que tu as suscité en faveur de tous les peuples :32 il est la lumière pour éclairer les nations, il sera la gloire d’*Israël ton peuple.La prophétie de Siméon
33 Le père et la mère de Jésus étaient émerveillés de ce qu’il disait de lui.34 Siméon les bénit et dit à Marie, sa mère : —Sache-le : cet enfant est destiné à être, pour beaucoup en Israël, une occasion de chute ou de relèvement. Il sera un signe qui suscitera la contradiction :35 ainsi seront dévoilées les pensées cachées de bien des gens. Quant à toi, tu auras le cœur comme transpercé par une épée.Anne, la prophétesse
36 Il y avait aussi une prophétesse, Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d’Aser. Elle était très âgée. Dans sa jeunesse, elle avait été mariée pendant sept ans,37 puis elle était devenue veuve et avait vécu seule jusqu’à quatre-vingt-quatre ans. Elle ne quittait jamais le Temple où elle servait Dieu, nuit et jour, par le jeûne et la prière.38 Elle arriva, elle aussi, au même moment ; elle louait Dieu et parlait de l’enfant à tous ceux qui attendaient que Dieu délivre *Jérusalem.Le retour à Nazareth
39 Après avoir accompli tout ce que la Loi du Seigneur ordonnait, Marie et Joseph retournèrent en Galilée, à Nazareth, leur village.40 Le petit enfant grandissait et se développait. Il était plein de sagesse, et la grâce de Dieu reposait sur lui.Jésus à douze ans dans le temple
41 Les parents de Jésus se rendaient chaque année à *Jérusalem pour la fête de la *Pâque.42 Quand Jésus eut douze ans, ils y montèrent selon la coutume de la fête.43 Une fois la fête terminée, ils prirent le chemin du retour, mais Jésus, leur fils, resta à Jérusalem et ses parents ne s’en aperçurent pas.44 Ils supposaient, en effet, qu’il se trouvait avec leurs compagnons de voyage et firent ainsi une journée de marche. Ils se mirent alors à le chercher parmi leurs parents et leurs connaissances.45 Mais ils ne le trouvèrent pas. Aussi retournèrent-ils à Jérusalem pour le chercher.46 Trois jours plus tard, ils le retrouvèrent dans le *Temple, assis au milieu des maîtres ; il les écoutait et leur posait des questions.47 Tous ceux qui l’entendaient s’émerveillaient de son intelligence et de ses réponses.48 Ses parents furent très étonnés de le voir là, et sa mère lui dit : —Mon enfant, pourquoi nous as-tu fait cela ? Tu sais, ton père et moi, nous étions très inquiets et nous t’avons cherché partout.49 —Pourquoi m’avez-vous cherché ? leur répondit Jésus. Ne saviez-vous pas que je dois m’occuper des affaires de mon Père ?50 Mais ils ne comprirent pas ce qu’il leur disait.51 Il repartit donc avec eux et retourna à Nazareth. Et il leur était obéissant. Sa mère gardait précieusement dans son cœur le souvenir de tout ce qui s’était passé.52 Jésus grandissait et progressait en sagesse, et il se rendait toujours plus agréable à Dieu et aux hommes.
