Paul aime à rapporter ce magnifique témoignage rendu à David, parce que la gloire en rejaillit sur son descendant, le Libérateur que l'apôtre va annoncer. Aussi, il ne poursuit pas plus loin cette revue de l'histoire de son peuple. son but est atteint.

- Il cite de mémoire, d'après les Septante, et combine divers passages de l'Ecriture, (Psaumes 89.21 ; 1Samuel 13.14) auxquels il ajoute d'après 1Rois 14.8, (comparez Esaïe 14.28) ces mots : il fera toutes mes volontés.
