World English Bible After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light and be satisfied. My righteous servant will justify many by the knowledge of himself; and he will bear their iniquities.

A cause du travail... Comparez Philippiens 2.9-11 : C'est pourquoi aussi Dieu l'a souverainement élevé...

Il jouira..., littéralement : il verra, se rassasiera, c'est-à-dire il se rassassiera de la vue de la prospérité de son œuvre (verset 10).

Par sa connaissance. On peut entendre, ou bien : par la connaissance dont il sera la source, c'est-à-dire par la révélation de Jéhova qu'il répandra jusqu'aux bouts de la terre ; ou bien : par la connaissance dont il sera l'objet, c'est-à-dire par la connaissance que les hommes, qui autrefois ne le connaissaient pas ou le méconnaissaient (52.15 ; 53.1), auront de la rédemption qui leur est acquise par son sacrifice. Ce dernier sens se rattache mieux que le premier à l'idée fondamentale de ce morceau, qui est celle de l'expiation des péchés par la mort du serviteur de Dieu. Le titre de juste prend aussi dans ce sens toute sa valeur : c'est en vertu de sa sainteté qu'il a pu offrir sa vie en rançon pour les pécheurs ; c'est en qualité de juste qu'il peut justifier. Comparez Jésus-Christ le juste, notre avocat (1Jean 2.1).

Beaucoup d'hommes. Cette expression retentit à travers tout le Nouveau Testament, aussi bien dans les discours de Jésus (Matthieu 20.28 ; 26.28) que dans les écrits des apôtres (Romains 5.15-19 ; Hébreux 9.28).

Lui-même se chargera... Ces mots se rapportent sans doute au ministère d'intercession qu'il accomplira en faveur des pécheurs après son élévation (voyez verset 12).
