Détail des quatre faces : Le lion est le roi des animaux sauvages, le taureau celui des animaux domestiques, l'aigle celui des oiseaux, l'homme celui de la terre entière. Les chérubins paraissent donc bien représenter la création avec toutes ses forces :

  • l'intelligence qui agit, l'homme
  • l'intelligence qui contemple, l'aigle
  • la puissance créatrice, le taureau
  • la force destructive, le lion.
