Matthieu 5.6

Cette faim et cette soif des biens spirituels qui leur manquent, de la vraie justice intérieure dont ils se sentent privés, d'une vie conforme a la volonté de Dieu, naissent en eux des dispositions décrites dans les versets précédents. Cette belle et énergique image de la faim et de la soif, expression d'un besoin pressant, d'un ardent désir de vie, revient souvent dans l'Ecriture. Psaumes 42.3 ; Psaumes 63.2 ; Esaïe 41.17,Jean 7.37,Apocalypse 22.17

Toute âme qui l'éprouve devant Dieu sera rassasiée, rassasiée de justice, puisque c'est de justice qu'elle a faim et soif. Les révélations subséquentes de l'Evangile lui apprendront comment elle y parviendra. Romains 3.21-30 ; Philippiens 3.9 etc.

Voir déjà dans le sermon sur la montagne la doctrine de la justification par la foi, serait une anticipation que l'exégèse ne doit pas se permettre. (Comparer Matthieu 6.33) Seulement, il est vrai de dire avec Luther que toutes les promesses que fait ici le Sauveur supposent la foi pour se les approprier.
