13-16 Victoire d'Abraham

Abram l'Hébreu : descendant d'Héber ; voir 10.25, note ; ce nom oppose Abraham aux habitants de la Plaine et aux rois d'Orient. C'est aussi ce nom que les païens emploieront plus tard pour désigner les Israélites (Genèse 39.14 ; 41.12 ; Exode 1.16 ; 1Samuel 4.6).

Il campait dans la chênaie. Cette explication serait superflue si l'auteur de ce morceau était le même que celui du chapitre 13.

Escol. Ce nom signifie : grappe de raisin. Ailleurs il désigne une vallée voisine d'Hébron (Nombres 13.23).

Ils étaient des alliés : tous les trois, d'après le verset 4.
