Luc 2.11

Un Sauveur, voilà le mot principal de ce message de l'ange, le sujet de la grande joie qu'il annonce. Les bergers doivent savoir encore que ce Sauveur est Christ, Oint de Dieu, le Messie qu'ils attendaient avec tous les Israélites pieux (Comparer Matthieu 1.16, note.) Il est enfin Seigneur, "le Seigneur de tous," (Actes 10.36) celui que toute langue doit confesser comme tel. (Philippiens 2.11)

Il ne faut jamais oublier que, dans la version grecque des Septante, d'où le langage du Nouveau Testament est tiré, le mot de Seigneur est la traduction constante du nom de Jéhova.

La juxtaposition des termes : Christ Seigneur, sans et, paraît étrange.

On a supposé que nous avions ici la traduction erronée de l'expression hébraïque : "Messie (de) Jéhova," expression qui aurait été exactement rendue au verset 26. N'y aurait-il pas plutôt une faute dans le texte, qu'on devrait corriger d'après le verset 26 ? Les manuscrits, il est vrai, ne présentent pas trace de variante.

Les mots : dans la ville de David rappelaient à des Israélites la prophétie qui venait de s'accomplir. (Michée 5.2)
