29 et 30 Sur les prémices

Le respect pour le souverain implique le paiement de l'impôt. Or, l'impôt chez un peuple comme Israël, qui a Dieu pour souverain, ce sont les prémices des productions de la terre pieusement offertes. Le texte dit littéralement : Tu ne différeras pas ta plénitude et ce qui découle. Ce qui signifie évidemment : de m'offrir les prémices des riches productions de ta terre et du produit de tes vignes.

Les prémices sont de trois sortes : les premiers fruits du sol, les premiers-nés de l'homme et les premiers-nés des bestiaux ; comparez les prescriptions plus spéciales pour les fruits du sol Nombres 18.12 et suivants, et surtout Deutéronome 21.1-23, etc. ; pour les premiers-nés des bestiaux et des hommes Nombres 18.15 ; Deutéronome 15.19 et suivants, etc.

Pour ces derniers, comparez ce qui avait déjà été ordonné aussitôt après la sortie d'Egypte, Exode 13.12 et suivants. L'idée qu'il pût s'agir d'un sacrifice proprement dit à l'égard des premiers-nés des hommes est écartée par toute l'Ecriture. Il s'agit uniquement d'une consécration spéciale au service de l'Eternel dans le sanctuaire.

Sept jours. Avant sept jours, les bêtes étaient considérées comme n'étant pas encore bonnes à manger et, pour cette raison, n'étaient pas propres non plus à être offertes en sacrifice (Lévitique 22.27). On trouve dans le rituel des Romains des prescriptions pareilles.
