28-30. Installation de l'homme comme roi de la création

28. Comme les animaux à leur première apparition ont reçu une bénédiction (verset 22), il en est de même de l'homme. Mais cette bénédiction ne porte pas seulement sur l'augmentation de la famille et du peuple, qui est toujours considérée dans l'Ancien Testament comme l'un des plus grands bienfaits temporels ; à cette première faveur de la fécondité, que l'homme partage avec les animaux, s'en ajoute une seconde qui lui est propre : la souveraineté sur tous les autres habitants de la terre. Cette souveraineté est pour le moment toute pacifique ; plus tard, après le déluge (Genèse 9.2 ), elle se réalisera par la force.

Il est manifeste que le troisième terme : tout animal qui se meut sur la terre, comprend les trois classes créées au sixième jour, comme ayant, en opposition aux oiseaux et aux poissons, ce caractère commun d'habiter la terre avec homme.
