Grec : il nous a suscité une corne de salut.

La corne dans laquelle réside la force de certains animaux est, dans le style de l'Ecriture, l'image de la puissance. (1Samuel 2.10 ; Psaumes 89.18 ; 132.17 ; 148.14)

Les autres explications qu'on a données de cette image (elle serait, par exemple, une allusion aux cornes de l'autel que cherchaient à saisir les criminels) sont inadmissibles.

Une corne de salut est une délivrance accomplie avec puissance, et, même, l'image désigne un puissant libérateur, le Messie. (Comparer Psaumes 132.17 ; Ezéchiel 29.21)

Ces mots : dans la maison de David, montrent que pour Zacharie, comme pour Luc, qui a rapporté le mystère de la naissance du Sauveur, (verset 35) Marie descendait réellement de David. (Comparer Luc 3.23, note.)
