Matthieu 5.22

ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὀργιζόμενος τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ ἔνοχος ἔσται τῇ κρίσει· ὃς δ’ ἂν εἴπῃ τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ· Ῥακά, ἔνοχος ἔσται τῷ συνεδρίῳ· ὃς δ’ ἂν εἴπῃ· Μωρέ, ἔνοχος ἔσται εἰς τὴν γέενναν τοῦ πυρός.

Quelle autorité dans ce contraste : Mais moi je vous dis !

Ce commandement, ainsi que tous les autres, peut être violé dans le cœur par les passions : la colère, la haine, le mépris ; et cette violation mérite, devant la justice divine, le même châtiment que le meurtre proprement dit.

Le Sauveur établit une gradation dans la transgression, et aussi dans la peine qu'elle fait encourir. D'abord la colère contre un frère qu'il faudrait aimer (il faut retrancher ce mot sans cause qu'ajoute le texte reçu avec D, plusieurs majuscules, les vers syriaques et des Pères) ; puis l'expression de cette colère par des paroles de haine ou de mépris. Raca terme injurieux qui signifie en hébreu araméen tête vide, homme de rien, canaille. Fou, dans un sens moral, signifie impie, athée. Psaumes 14.1 C'est une sorte de malédiction inspirée par la haine. Comparer 1Jean 3.15

- Quant à la peine également graduée qui correspond à ces violations de la loi, Jésus l'indique par des images tirées de la justice pénale de son temps et de son peuple. En effet, il ne veut pas dire que celui qui manifeste ces mauvais sentiments du cœur doive être puni par les divers tribunaux qu'il va nommer, mais qu'il est aussi coupable que ceux qu'on y amène.

Le jugement désigne le tribunal inférieur mentionné au verset 21.

Le sanhédrin, autorité suprême de la nation, était composé de 71 membres, anciens, scribes et sacrificateurs, sous la présidence du souverain sacrificateur. Matthieu 21.23 ; Luc 22.66 ; Actes 5.21 Il connaissait de toutes causes religieuses, civiles ou criminelles ; en ces dernières, dont il est ici question, il servait de cour d'appel.

Le nom de géhenne du feu provenait de la vallée de Hinnom (hébr. Gué-Hinnom), qui entourait Jérusalem du côté du sud et dans laquelle s'était célébré autrefois le culte de Moloch. Depuis le temps de Josias 2Rois 23.10 on y jetait, afin de la profaner, les corps des animaux morts et des suppliciés, et l'on y entretenait un feu pour les consumer. Ce lieu était ainsi devenu une image de l'enfer, et c'est dans ce sens que le Nouveau Testament emploie ce terme. Comparer Jérémie 7.31,32 ; 19.2 ; Marc 9.43-48
