Jésus pour nous convaincre de l'efficacité de la prière, en fonde l'assurance sur l'amour d'un père pour son enfant.

Un père ne donnera pas à son enfant une pierre inutile ou un serpent dangereux, ce qui serait une cruelle ironie, un acte contre nature.

Combien moins votre Père ! Double contraste : il est amour, et vous êtes mauvais, même dans vos affections naturelles, toujours entachées d'égoïsme, vous pouvez faire du mal sans le vouloir à ceux que vous aimez, lui ne donne que des biens, ou de bonnes choses. (Comparer Luc 11.12,13, note.)
