Lamentations 2.1

Eh quoi ! le Seigneur, dans sa colère, a couvert de nuages la fille de Sion ! Il a précipité du ciel sur la terre la magnificence d'Israël ! Il ne s'est pas souvenu de son marchepied, Au jour de sa colère !

Lamentation sur la misère de Jérusalem.

Une triste présentation de l’église, de Jacob et d’Israël, nous est ici donnée ; ce texte semble surtout notifier les calamités que l’Éternel envoie, par Sa main puissante. Dieu n'est pas cependant l’ennemi de Son peuple, quand Il manifeste Sa colère en le corrigeant. En fait, aucune porte, aucune sécurité ne sauraient tenir ferme, quand Dieu ôte Sa protection.

Il est juste de voir Dieu exercer Ses jugements envers ceux qui se sont corrompus dans le péché ; il est aussi normal que ceux qui n’ont pas respecté les sabbats et les ordonnances divines, ne puissent être bénis en retour.

À quoi pourrait servir la Bible, si elle n'apporte aucune amélioration de conduite chez ceux qui la lisent ? Ceux qui méprisent les serviteurs de Dieu, ne pourront que perdre les bénéfices de leur fonction.

Il est parfois nécessaire, malgré la douleur que cela peut occasionner, de bien montrer à ceux que Dieu a affligés, que leurs péchés sont bien à l’origine de leurs malheurs.
