La justice signifie la même chose qu'au verset 6, seulement le mot est pris dans son sens objectif.

A cause de la justice n'est donc pas différent, au fond, de cet autre terme : à cause de moi. (verset 11) Christ est le représentant, le possesseur, le dispensateur de la justice.

Ceux qui sont persécutés à cause de lui sont heureux, parce qu'à eux est le royaume des cieux. (verset 3, note.) Dans la huitième béatitude, Jésus revient donc à la première (ce qui fait que plusieurs interprètes n'en comptent que sept, mais à tort). Il clôt ainsi un cycle harmonique d'expériences et de promesses. Les quatre premières concernent ceux qui cherchent dans leurs profonds besoins, les quatre dernières, ceux qui ont trouvé et qui déjà développent une certaine activité dans le règne de Dieu.

Chaque promesse, source du bonheur (heureux !) répondant exactement et abondamment à chaque état d'âme décrit, fait resplendir un rayon de la gloire du royaume des cieux : aux affligés ; la consolation ; (verset 4) aux doux, la possession de la terre ; (verset 5) aux affamés, le rassasiement (verset 6) aux miséricordieux, la miséricorde ; (verset 7) aux purs de cœur, la vue de Dieu ; (verset 8) à ceux qui procurent la paix, le beau titre d'enfants de Dieu. (verset 9) Mais dans la première et la dernière béatitude, Jésus, qui est le Maître du royaume des cieux, le dispense tout entier aux pauvres et aux persécutés (verset 3 et 10) ; et là seulement il parle, non au futur, mais au présent : ce royaume est à eux.

- Les verset 11 et 12 ne sont que le développement du verset 10.
