Ceux qui pleurent, ou qui sont dans le deuil, la tristesse. L'expression est très générale et ne s'applique pas exclusivement a ceux qui pleurent sur leurs péchés. Mais comme il y a en ces affligés le sentiment humiliant de leur pauvreté morale (vers. 3, comparez Jacques 4.9), leur tristesse est "selon Dieu" et non "du monde" et produit "une repentance à salut." 2Corinthiens 7.10

Aussi seront-ils consolés, parce que cette tristesse les amène a la source du pardon, de la paix, de la vie. Esaïe 61.2,3 ; 66.2
