      Deutéronome 2

      1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea , as Yahweh spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days.
      2 Yahweh spoke to me, saying,
      3 "You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward.
      4 Command the people, saying, 'You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore;
      5 don't contend with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.
      6 You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.'"
      7 For Yahweh your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; he has known your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Yahweh your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.
      8 So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
      9 Yahweh said to me, "Don't bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession."
      10 (The Emim lived therein before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:
      11 these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.
      12 The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which Yahweh gave to them.)
      13 "Now rise up, and cross over the brook Zered." We went over the brook Zered.
      14 The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Yahweh swore to them.
      15 Moreover the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.
      16 So it happened, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
      17 that Yahweh spoke to me, saying,
      18 "You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab:
      19 and when you come near over against the children of Ammon, don't bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession."
      20 (That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived therein before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,
      21 a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place;
      22 as he did for the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day:
      23 and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.)
      24 "Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
      25 This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you."
      26 I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
      27 "Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.
      28 You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only let me pass through on my feet,
      29 as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which Yahweh our God gives us."
      30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Yahweh your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.
      31 Yahweh said to me, "Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you: begin to possess, that you may inherit his land."
      32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.
      33 Yahweh our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, and his sons, and all his people.
      34 We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones; we left none remaining:
      35 only the livestock we took for a prey to ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we had taken.
      36 From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us; Yahweh our God delivered up all before us:
      37 only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn't come near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever Yahweh our God forbade us.

      Psaumes 83

      2 For, behold, your enemies are stirred up. Those who hate you have lifted up their heads.
      3 They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones.
      4 "Come," they say, "and let's destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more."
      5 For they have conspired together with one mind. They form an alliance against you.
      6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab, and the Hagrites;
      7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
      8 Assyria also is joined with them. They have helped the children of Lot. Selah.
      9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;
      10 who perished at Endor, who became as dung for the earth.
      11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb; yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna;
      12 who said, "Let us take possession of God's pasturelands."
      13 My God, make them like tumbleweed; like chaff before the wind.
      14 As the fire that burns the forest, as the flame that sets the mountains on fire,
      15 so pursue them with your tempest, and terrify them with your storm.
      16 Fill their faces with confusion, that they may seek your name, Yahweh.
      17 Let them be disappointed and dismayed forever. Yes, let them be confounded and perish;
      18 that they may know that you alone, whose name is Yahweh, are the Most High over all the earth.

      Psaumes 84

      1 <> How lovely are your dwellings, Yahweh of Armies!
      2 My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of Yahweh. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
      3 Yes, the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young, near your altars, Yahweh of Armies, my King, and my God.
      4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house. They are always praising you. Selah.
      5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you; who have set their hearts on a pilgrimage.
      6 Passing through the valley of Weeping, they make it a place of springs. Yes, the autumn rain covers it with blessings.
      7 They go from strength to strength. Everyone of them appears before God in Zion.
      8 Yahweh, God of Armies, hear my prayer. Listen, God of Jacob. Selah.
      9 Behold, God our shield, look at the face of your anointed.
      10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
      11 For Yahweh God is a sun and a shield. Yahweh will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.
      12 Yahweh of Armies, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

      Esaïe 30

      1 "Woe to the rebellious children," says Yahweh, "who take counsel, but not from me; and who make an alliance, but not with my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin,
      2 who set out to go down into Egypt, and have not asked my advice; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!
      3 Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
      4 For their princes are at Zoan, and their ambassadors have come to Hanes.
      5 They shall all be ashamed because of a people that can't profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach."
      6 The burden of the animals of the South. Through the land of trouble and anguish, of the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches on the shoulders of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to an unprofitable people.
      7 For Egypt helps in vain, and to no purpose; therefore have I called her Rahab who sits still.
      8 Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever.
      9 For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of Yahweh;
      10 who tell the seers, "Don't see!" and to the prophets, "Don't prophesy to us right things. Tell us pleasant things. Prophesy deceits.
      11 Get out of the way. Turn aside from the path. Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."
      12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, "Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on it;
      13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly in an instant.
      14 He will break it as a potter's vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing, so that there won't be found among the broken piece a piece good enough to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern."
      15 For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, "You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence." You refused,
      16 but you said, "No, for we will flee on horses"; therefore you will flee; and, "We will ride on the swift"; therefore those who pursue you will be swift.
      17 One thousand will flee at the threat of one. At the threat of five, you will flee until you are left like a beacon on the top of a mountain, and like a banner on a hill.
      18 Therefore Yahweh will wait, that he may be gracious to you; and therefore he will be exalted, that he may have mercy on you, for Yahweh is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.
      19 For the people will dwell in Zion at Jerusalem. You will weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the voice of your cry. When he hears you, he will answer you.
      20 Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers won't be hidden anymore, but your eyes will see your teachers;
      21 and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way. Walk in it."
      22 You shall defile the overlaying of your engraved images of silver, and the plating of your molten images of gold. You shall cast them away as an unclean thing. You shall tell it, "Go away!"
      23 He will give the rain for your seed, with which you will sow the ground; and bread of the increase of the ground will be rich and plentiful. In that day, your livestock will feed in large pastures.
      24 The oxen likewise and the young donkeys that till the ground will eat savory provender, which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork.
      25 There shall be brooks and streams of water on every lofty mountain and on every high hill in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.
      26 Moreover the light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, in the day that Yahweh binds up the fracture of his people, and heals the wound they were struck with.
      27 Behold, the name of Yahweh comes from far away, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke. His lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire.
      28 His breath is as an overflowing stream that reaches even to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction; and a bridle that leads to ruin will be in the jaws of the peoples.
      29 You will have a song, as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a flute to come to Yahweh's mountain, to Israel's Rock.
      30 Yahweh will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the descent of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, storm, and hailstones.
      31 For through the voice of Yahweh the Assyrian will be dismayed. He will strike him with his rod.
      32 Every stroke of the rod of punishment, which Yahweh will lay on him, will be with the sound of tambourines and harps. He will fight with them in battles, brandishing weapons.
      33 For his burning place has long been ready. Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made its pyre deep and large with fire and much wood. Yahweh's breath, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
