- Deutéronome 9
  
  1 Hear, Israel: you are to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,
  
  2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, "Who can stand before the sons of Anak?"
  
  3 Know therefore this day, that Yahweh your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire; he will destroy them, and he will bring them down before you: so you shall drive them out, and make them to perish quickly, as Yahweh has spoken to you.
  
  4 Don't say in your heart, after Yahweh your God has thrust them out from before you, saying, "For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to possess this land"; because Yahweh drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.
  
  5 Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
  
  6 Know therefore, that Yahweh your God doesn't give you this good land to possess it for your righteousness; for you are a stiff-necked people.
  
  7 Remember, don't forget, how you provoked Yahweh your God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Yahweh.
  
  8 Also in Horeb you provoked Yahweh to wrath, and Yahweh was angry with you to destroy you.
  
  9 When I was gone up onto the mountain to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which Yahweh made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water.
  
  10 Yahweh delivered to me the two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them were all the words which Yahweh spoke with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
  
  11 It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that Yahweh gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
  
  12 Yahweh said to me, "Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image."
  
  13 Furthermore Yahweh spoke to me, saying, "I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people:
  
  14 let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they."
  
  15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.
  
  16 I looked, and behold, you had sinned against Yahweh your God; you had made yourselves a molten calf: you had turned aside quickly out of the way which Yahweh had commanded you.
  
  17 I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
  
  18 I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.
  
  19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.
  
  20 Yahweh was very angry with Aaron to destroy him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.
  
  21 I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
  
  22 At Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah, you provoked Yahweh to wrath.
  
  23 When Yahweh sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, "Go up and possess the land which I have given you"; then you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God, and you didn't believe him, nor listen to his voice.
  
  24 You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day that I knew you.
  
  25 So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahweh had said he would destroy you.
  
  26 I prayed to Yahweh, and said, "Lord Yahweh, don't destroy your people and your inheritance, that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
  
  27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; don't look to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,
  
  28 lest the land you brought us out from say, 'Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.'
  
  29 Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm."
  
  Psaumes 92
  
  1 <> It is a good thing to give thanks to Yahweh, to sing praises to your name, Most High;
  
  2 to proclaim your loving kindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night,
  
  3 with the ten-stringed lute, with the harp, and with the melody of the lyre.
  
  4 For you, Yahweh, have made me glad through your work. I will triumph in the works of your hands.
  
  5 How great are your works, Yahweh! Your thoughts are very deep.
  
  6 A senseless man doesn't know, neither does a fool understand this:
  
  7 though the wicked spring up as the grass, and all the evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.
  
  8 But you, Yahweh, are on high forevermore.
  
  9 For, behold, your enemies, Yahweh, for, behold, your enemies shall perish. All the evildoers will be scattered.
  
  10 But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox. I am anointed with fresh oil.
  
  11 My eye has also seen my enemies. My ears have heard of the wicked enemies who rise up against me.
  
  12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
  
  13 They are planted in Yahweh's house. They will flourish in our God's courts.
  
  14 They will still bring forth fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green,
  
  15 to show that Yahweh is upright. He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
  
  Psaumes 93
  
  1 Yahweh reigns! He is clothed with majesty! Yahweh is armed with strength. The world also is established. It can't be moved.
  
  2 Your throne is established from long ago. You are from everlasting.
  
  3 The floods have lifted up, Yahweh, the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods lift up their waves.
  
  4 Above the voices of many waters, the mighty breakers of the sea, Yahweh on high is mighty.
  
  5 Your statutes stand firm. Holiness adorns your house, Yahweh, forevermore.
  
  Esaïe 37
  
  1 It happened, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into Yahweh's house.
  
  2 He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.
  
  3 They said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah, 'This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring forth.
  
  4 It may be Yahweh your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'"
  
  5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
  
  6 Isaiah said to them, "Tell your master, 'Thus says Yahweh, "Don't be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
  
  7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land."'"
  
  8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
  
  9 He heard news concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, "He has come out to fight against you." When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
  
  10 "Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, 'Don't let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, "Jerusalem won't be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."
  
  11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Shall you be delivered?
  
  12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?
  
  13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?'"
  
  14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to Yahweh's house, and spread it before Yahweh.
  
  15 Hezekiah prayed to Yahweh, saying,
  
  16 "Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
  
  17 Turn your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and behold. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.
  
  18 Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the countries and their land,
  
  19 and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.
  
  20 Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Yahweh, even you only."
  
  21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'Because you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria,
  
  22 this is the word which Yahweh has spoken concerning him. The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
  
  23 Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.
  
  24 By your servants, have you defied the Lord, and have said, "With the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice fir trees. I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field.
  
  25 I have dug and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt."
  
  26 Have you not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it in ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to destroy fortified cities, turning them into ruinous heaps.
  
  27 Therefore their inhabitants had little power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field, and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops, and like a field before its crop has grown.
  
  28 But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.
  
  29 Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.
  
  30 This shall be the sign to you. You will eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from the same; and in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.
  
  31 The remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
  
  32 For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go forth, and survivors will escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of Yahweh of Armies will perform this.'
  
  33 Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the king of Assyria, 'He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
  
  34 By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come to this city,' says Yahweh.
  
  35 'For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake.'"
  
  36 The angel of Yahweh went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
  
  37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, went away, returned to Nineveh, and stayed there.
  
  38 It happened, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.

  1
  Les Israélites ne doivent pas attribuer leurs succès à leur propre mérite. (Deutéronome 9:1-6). Moïse rappelle aux Israélites leurs rebellions. (Deutéronome 9:7-29)
  Moïse évalue devant Israël, la puissance de l'ennemi, auquel le peuple allait être confronté. Les Hébreux devaient en effet avoir les yeux fixés sur l'Éternel et placer tous leurs espoirs en Lui : la présence divine parmi le peuple était la condition indispensable, pour accéder à la victoire. Cette dernière ne devait pas, en effet, donner l'impression d'être acquise par la force et les mérites d'Israël, mais directement par la puissance de Dieu.
  En Christ, nous avons à la fois, la justification et la force ; nous devons Le glorifier pour toutes ces choses, sachant qu'aucune ne provient de nous-mêmes.
  Dieu chasse les habitants de Canaan à cause de leur méchanceté. IL rejette encore aujourd'hui les impies ; par contre, aucun de ceux qu'Il accepte n'a de mérite. Toute vantardise personnelle qui tendrait à nous glorifier est alors bannie à jamais : voir Eph 2:9,11,12.
  
  7 Afin de dissuader les Israélites d'un quelconque mérite aux yeux de Dieu, dans la perspective de posséder le pays de Canaan, Moïse leur rappelle la Grâce divine qui les a préservé dans le désert.
  En ce qui nous concerne, il est bon de nous remémorer, avec honte et tristesse, notre précédent état de pécheur ; nous sommes alors vraiment en mesure d'apprécier la grandeur de la Grâce divine qui nous est offerte, au lieu de la colère et de la malédiction que la main de Dieu pourrait nous faire subir. Notre penchant naturel pour l'orgueil est tellement fort, que nous cherchons souvent à changer nous-mêmes notre triste état.
  Nous sommes toujours prêts à nous justifier personnellement devant le Seigneur, en vue d'obtenir de Sa part, une faveur spéciale ; en fait, notre perversité est plus manifeste que notre réelle faiblesse ! Mais au jour du Jugement, quand chaque homme verra dévoilés les secrets de sa vie entière, le monde entier pourra constater le côté fautif de chaque individu, aux yeux de Dieu.
  Pour le présent, Un Seul plaide en notre faveur, Celui qui non seulement a été attaché à la croix, mais qui y est mort pour nos iniquités. Par l'intermédiaire de Christ, nous pouvons nous approcher de Dieu, en tant que pécheurs et condamnés que nous sommes, afin de pouvoir implorer Sa Grâce et la vie éternelle.
  Rendons gloire à Dieu pour cette victoire que nous avons en Christ, Celui qui nous a apporté le salut !
  
  Psaumes 92
  
  1
  La louange est la raison du sabbat. (Psaumes 92:1-6)
  Le méchant périra, mais le peuple de Dieu sera élevé. (Psaumes 92:7-15)
  C'est un réel privilège de pouvoir louer le Seigneur, et de pouvoir s'approcher de Lui jour et nuit, non seulement en public mais aussi en privé, dans nos familles. Soyons chaque matin reconnaissants pour les grâces de la nuit, et faisons de même chaque soir, pour les bontés de chaque jour ; lorsque nous partons ou lorsque nous revenons, louons le Seigneur. Soyons encouragés au travers des œuvres accomplies à notre égard, pour Sa grâce et aussi par la rédemption qu'Il a accomplie.
  Alors que beaucoup ignorent les desseins de Dieu ou s'en moquent, que ceux qui sont convaincus de leur existence puissent en être respectueusement reconnaissants. Si les visions lointaines de délivrance animaient déjà les croyants à l'époque de ce psaume, combien devrions-nous aujourd’hui abonder en amour et en louange !
  
  7 Dieu accorde parfois la prospérité au méchant ; celui-ci prospère mais pour un temps seulement. Recherchons le salut et la grâce qui proviennent de l'évangile, qui sont sans cesse délivrés par l'Esprit-Saint, afin que nous puissions contempler et partager la gloire du Rédempteur. Car c'est par la grâce, par la Parole et par l'Esprit que le croyant reçoit les vertus de la vie, pouvant ainsi produire du fruit. Les vieux arbres, à la fin de leur existence, perdent leur vigueur ; mais ceux qui sont enracinés dans la grâce de Dieu ne perdront pas leur force naturelle. Les derniers jours des saints sont quelquefois les meilleurs ; il en est de même pour leurs œuvres : la persévérance est la meilleure preuve de leur sincérité.
  Que chaque Dimanche consacré à la louange soit pour nos âmes l'occasion de nous confier de plus en plus en la droiture et la fidélité du Seigneur.
  
  Psaumes 93
  
  1
  La majesté, la puissance, et la sainteté du royaume de Christ.
  - Le Seigneur aurait pu ne dispenser que Sa justice, Sa sainteté et Sa terrible puissance, dans Ses relations avec les hommes déchus ; mais Il a aimé répandre également les richesses de Sa miséricorde et la puissance de Sa grâce régénératrice.
  Dans cette œuvre formidable, le Père a donné toute puissance à son Fils, le Seigneur des cieux, qui a expié nos péchés. Il ne donne pas uniquement le pardon, mais Il délivre et protège tous ceux qui placent en Lui leur confiance. Sa Parole est accomplie et tous les saints peuvent lui faire confiance. Quelles que soient les prédictions relatives au royaume du Messie, elles s'accompliront toutes, en temps voulu. Tous les siens devraient veiller à rester strictement dans le chemin de la pureté. L'église de Dieu est Sa maison ; c'est une maison sainte, exempte de tout péché et consacrée à Son service. Où se trouve la pureté se trouvera aussi la paix. Soyons vigilants pour être certains que ce royaume soit bien établi dans nos cœurs.
