  1 You shall not sacrifice to Yahweh your God an ox, or a sheep, in which is a blemish, or anything evil; for that is an abomination to Yahweh your God.
  
  2 If there is found in the midst of you, within any of your gates which Yahweh your God gives you, man or woman, who does that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh your God, in transgressing his covenant,
  
  3 and has gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the army of the sky, which I have not commanded;
  
  4 and it be told you, and you have heard of it, then you shall inquire diligently; and behold, if it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is done in Israel,
  
  5 then you shall bring forth that man or that woman, who has done this evil thing, to your gates, even the man or the woman; and you shall stone them to death with stones.
  
  6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he who is to die be put to death; at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.
  
  7 The hand of the witnesses shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall put away the evil from the midst of you.
  
  8 If there arises a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates; then you shall arise, and go up to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose;
  
  9 and you shall come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge who shall be in those days: and you shall inquire; and they shall show you the sentence of judgment.
  
  10 You shall do according to the tenor of the sentence which they shall show you from that place which Yahweh shall choose; and you shall observe to do according to all that they shall teach you:
  
  11 according to the tenor of the law which they shall teach you, and according to the judgment which they shall tell you, you shall do; you shall not turn aside from the sentence which they shall show you, to the right hand, nor to the left.
  
  12 The man who does presumptuously, in not listening to the priest who stands to minister there before Yahweh your God, or to the judge, even that man shall die: and you shall put away the evil from Israel.
  
  13 All the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.
  
  14 When you have come to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and shall possess it, and shall dwell therein, and shall say, "I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me";
  
  15 you shall surely set him king over yourselves, whom Yahweh your God shall choose: one from among your brothers you shall set king over you; you may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.
  
  16 Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he may multiply horses; because Yahweh has said to you, "You shall not go back that way again."
  
  17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart not turn away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
  
  18 It shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book, out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
  
  19 and it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life; that he may learn to fear Yahweh his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them;
  
  20 that his heart not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he not turn aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, in the midst of Israel.
  
  Psaumes 104
  
  1 Bless Yahweh, my soul. Yahweh, my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty.
  
  2 He covers himself with light as with a garment. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain.
  
  3 He lays the beams of his rooms in the waters. He makes the clouds his chariot. He walks on the wings of the wind.
  
  4 He makes his messengers winds; his servants flames of fire.
  
  5 He laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved forever.
  
  6 You covered it with the deep as with a cloak. The waters stood above the mountains.

  13 He waters the mountains from his rooms. The earth is filled with the fruit of your works.
  
  14 He causes the grass to grow for the livestock, and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food out of the earth:
  
  15 wine that makes glad the heart of man, oil to make his face to shine, and bread that strengthens man's heart.
  
  16 Yahweh's trees are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon, which he has planted;
  
  17 where the birds make their nests. The stork makes its home in the fir trees.
  
  18 The high mountains are for the wild goats. The rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers.
  
  19 He appointed the moon for seasons. The sun knows when to set.
  
  20 You make darkness, and it is night, in which all the animals of the forest prowl.
  
  21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their food from God.
  
  22 The sun rises, and they steal away, and lay down in their dens.
  
  23 Man goes forth to his work, to his labor until the evening.
  
  24 Yahweh, how many are your works! In wisdom have you made them all. The earth is full of your riches.
  
  25 There is the sea, great and wide, in which are innumerable living things, both small and large animals.
  
  26 There the ships go, and leviathan, whom you formed to play there.
  
  27 These all wait for you, that you may give them their food in due season.
  
  28 You give to them; they gather. You open your hand; they are satisfied with good.
  
  29 You hide your face: they are troubled; you take away their breath: they die, and return to the dust.
  
  30 You send forth your Spirit: they are created. You renew the face of the ground.
  
  31 Let the glory of Yahweh endure forever. Let Yahweh rejoice in his works.
  
  32 He looks at the earth, and it trembles. He touches the mountains, and they smoke.
  
  33 I will sing to Yahweh as long as I live. I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.
  
  34 Let your meditation be sweet to him. I will rejoice in Yahweh.
  
  35 Let sinners be consumed out of the earth. Let the wicked be no more. Bless Yahweh, my soul. Praise Yah!
  
  Esaïe 44
  
  1 Yet listen now, Jacob my servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen.
  
  2 This is what Yahweh who made you, and formed you from the womb, who will help you says: "Don't be afraid, Jacob my servant; and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
  
  3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and streams on the dry ground. I will pour my Spirit on your seed, and my blessing on your offspring:
  
  4 and they will spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.
  
  5 One will say, 'I am Yahweh's;' and another will be called by the name of Jacob; and another will write with his hand 'to Yahweh,' and honor the name of Israel."
  
  6 This is what Yahweh, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Yahweh of Armies, says: "I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.
  
  7 Who is like me? Who will call, and will declare it, and set it in order for me, since I established the ancient people? Let them declare the things that are coming, and that will happen.
  
  8 Don't fear, neither be afraid. Haven't I declared it to you long ago, and shown it? You are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? Indeed, there is not. I don't know any other Rock."
  
  9 Everyone who makes an engraved image is vain. The things that they delight in will not profit. Their own witnesses don't see, nor know, that they may be disappointed.
  
  10 Who has fashioned a god, or molds an image that is profitable for nothing?
  
  11 Behold, all his fellows will be disappointed; and the workmen are mere men. Let them all be gathered together. Let them stand up. They will fear. They will be put to shame together.
  
  12 The blacksmith takes an axe, works in the coals, fashions it with hammers, and works it with his strong arm. He is hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water, and is faint.
  
  13 The carpenter stretches out a line. He marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes. He marks it out with compasses, and shapes it like the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to reside in a house.
  
  14 He cuts down cedars for himself, and takes the cypress and the oak, and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest. He plants a fir tree, and the rain nourishes it.
  
  15 Then it will be for a man to burn; and he takes some of it, and warms himself. Yes, he burns it, and bakes bread. Yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it an engraved image, and falls down to it.
  
  16 He burns part of it in the fire. With part of it, he eats meat. He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself, and says, "Aha! I am warm. I have seen the fire."
  
  17 The rest of it he makes into a god, even his engraved image. He bows down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, "Deliver me; for you are my god!"
  
  18 They don't know, neither do they consider: for he has shut their eyes, that they can't see; and their hearts, that they can't understand.
  
  19 No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?"
  
  20 He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can't deliver his soul, nor say, "Isn't there a lie in my right hand?"
  
  21 Remember these things, Jacob and Israel; for you are my servant. I have formed you. You are my servant. Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
  
  22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and, as a cloud, your sins. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.
  
  23 Sing, you heavens, for Yahweh has done it! Shout, you lower parts of the earth! Break out into singing, you mountains, O forest, all of your trees, for Yahweh has redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel.
  
  24 Thus says Yahweh, your Redeemer, and he who formed you from the womb: "I am Yahweh, who makes all things; who alone stretches out the heavens; who spreads out the earth by myself;
  
  25 who frustrates the signs of the liars, and makes diviners mad; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolish;
  
  26 who confirms the word of his servant, and performs the counsel of his messengers; who says of Jerusalem, 'She will be inhabited;' and of the cities of Judah, 'They will be built,' and 'I will raise up its waste places;'
  
  27 who says to the deep, 'Be dry,' and 'I will dry up your rivers;'
  
  28 Who says of Cyrus, 'He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure,' even saying of Jerusalem, 'She will be built;' and of the temple, 'Your foundation will be laid.'"

  Aucune créature ayant un défaut, ne pouvait être offerte en sacrifice à Dieu. Cela nous rappelle la pureté et la perfection du sacrifice de Christ, et devrait nous inciter à servir Dieu de notre mieux, en Lui consacrant le meilleur de nos capacités et de nos biens, par une conduite sans hypocrisie, qui ne pourrait que Lui déplaire.
  Les juifs qui se tournaient vers l'idolâtrie devaient non seulement subir la peine de mort, mais ils devaient être lapidés.
  Que ceux qui, aujourd'hui, possèdent encore des idoles dans leur cœur, se rappellent comment Dieu punissait de tels crimes à l'époque !
  
  8 Des tribunaux de justice devaient être établis dans chaque ville. Bien que leurs jugements ne puissent être parfaits, comme les oracles divins, ces magistrats étaient des hommes expérimentés ; ils devaient prendre des décisions judiciaires, pleines de sagesse, en s'appuyant avantageusement sur les promesses de la Parole divine.
  
  14 Dieu était en quelque sorte, le Roi d'Israël ; si le peuple en désirait un autre, il était nécessaire que l'Éternel en fasse le choix. En conséquence, quand les Hébreux prirent cette décision, ils s'adressèrent à Samuel, le « prophète de l'Éternel ». Dans tous les cas de figure, le choix divin, si nous en avons connaissance, doit être déterminant : il doit nous diriger et avoir priorité sur le nôtre.
  Dans ce texte, nous trouvons les directives divines, auxquelles le roi d'Israël devait se soumettre. Ce dernier devait soigneusement éviter tout ce qui pouvait détourner son cœur, de Dieu et de la piété. Les richesses, les honneurs et les plaisirs, sont les trois principaux obstacles au culte dû à Dieu ; les convoitises de la chair et des yeux, l'orgueil, sont aussi des pierres d'achoppement pour les personnes de haut rang ; le roi d'Israël devait donc veiller à éviter ces différents pièges. Il devait étudier soigneusement la Parole de Dieu, et en faire sa Règle de conduite : il devait en posséder un exemplaire, copié de sa propre main, et lire cette Parole chaque jour.
  Il ne sert à rien de posséder de nombreuses Bibles ; nous devons surtout utiliser l’une d’entre elles, la lire quotidiennement, tout au long de notre vie !
  Les étudiants en théologie n'étudient jamais leur Bible « à la légère », ils La lisent constamment, jusqu'à pouvoir atteindre un niveau de connaissance parfait. Cette copie manuscrite de la Parole, que le roi devait faire, n'avait aucune utilité si elle n'était pas utilisée. Ceux qui craignent Dieu et qui gardent Ses commandements, connaîtront une qualité de vie parfaite, même en ce monde !
  
  Psaumes 104
  
  1
  La majesté de Dieu dans les cieux, La création de la mer et du sec. (Psaumes 104:1-9)
  Les dispositions prises pour Ses créatures. (Psaumes 104:10-18)
  La régularité du jour et de la nuit, et la puissante souveraineté de Dieu sur toutes ses créatures. (Psaumes 104:19-30)
  Une résolution de persévérer à louer Dieu. (Psaumes 104:31-35)
  Chaque chose que nous contemplons nous appelle à bénir et à louer le Seigneur, car Il est grand. Sa puissance éternelle et Son autorité sur toutes choses sont clairement révélées par tout ce qu'Il a fait. Dieu est Lumière et en Lui ne se trouve aucune obscurité. Le Seigneur Jésus, son Fils bien-aimé, est la Lumière du monde.
  
  10 Quand nous songeons à toute la sollicitude dont Dieu fait preuve envers toutes ses créatures, nous devrions également remarquer l'adoration que celles-ci lui donnent en retour.
  Quant à l'homme, cet homme ingrat, il ne fait que jouir, ici sur terre, des bontés immenses que lui offre son Créateur.
  N'oublions pas les bénédictions spirituelles qui nous sont également accordées : le fruit de l'église au travers de la grâce, le pain de la vie éternelle, la coupe du salut et l'huile de la joie. Dieu s'occuperait-il de ses créatures inférieures sans être également un refuge pour son peuple ?
  
  19 Nous devons vraiment louer Dieu pour la succession régulière des jours et des nuits. Et observez ceux qui, comme les bêtes sauvages, guettent le crépuscule, tout en pratiquant des œuvres infructueuses et obscures. Dieu n'écouterait-il que le simple langage de la nature, ou celui des bêtes féroces, sans interpréter celui de son propre peuple, bien que celui-ci n'émette parfois que de faibles gémissements ? À chaque jour sa tâche, que l'homme se doit d'exécuter dès le matin jusqu’au soir ; alors, lorsque la nuit paraît, il est temps pour lui de se reposer.
  Le psalmiste est émerveillé par les œuvres de Dieu. Souvent, quand on observe de près les œuvres d'art, on s'aperçoit qu'elles ne sont pas très fignolées ; les œuvres de la nature sont très belles et très précises. Elles sont toutes faites avec sagesse car elles sont produites pour répondre exactement au but pour lequel elles ont été créés. Chaque printemps est un emblème de la résurrection, quand le renouveau s'éveille, sur les ruines des choses passées. Mais la vie de l'homme continue après la mort. Quand le Seigneur lui retire son souffle, son âme entre dans un nouvel état et son corps ressuscite soit en gloire soit en misère.
  Que le Seigneur nous envoie son Esprit er régénère notre âme en toute sainteté !
  
  31 La gloire de l'homme finit par passer ; la gloire de Dieu, elle, est éternelle : les créatures changent, mais pour le Créateur, il n'y a aucune ombre de variation. Et si les merveilles de la création paraissent si belles, combien alors les âmes pieuses seront surprises par la gloire manifestée avec la grande œuvre de la rédemption ! Le pécheur, à titre tout à fait personnel, peut ici-bas, bénéficier de l'assurance et de la joie en son Dieu. Cet homme peut alors supporter tout, organiser toutes choses et se réjouir de ses œuvres ; que nos âmes, touchées par la grâce divine, puissent méditer ces vérités et ensuite se consacrer à louer Dieu.
  
  Esaïe 44
  
  1
  Promesses relatives à l'influence du Saint-Esprit. (Esaïe 44:1-8)

  Israël est appelé ici Jeshurun, (Verset Esaïe 44:2, version Darby*), ce qui signifie « bien-aimé, celui qui se tient droit ». Tel est vraiment le caractère des Israélites, en qui l'on ne trouve aucune perfidie.
  Ceux qui servent Dieu font partie de Son peuple. Il les aidera dans leurs difficultés, et dans l'exercice de leur devoir.
  L'eau est l'emblème du Saint-Esprit ; de même que l'eau régénère, nettoie, et fait fructifier le grain, l'Esprit agit de manière similaire envers l'âme. Ce don du Saint-Esprit est une grande grâce, que l'Éternel avait prévu de répandre aux « derniers jours ». Quand Dieu répand Son Esprit, Il accorde, en fait, toutes sortes de bénédictions. La naissance et la croissance de l'église en sont un exemple ; ses serviteurs répandent la bonne nouvelle jusqu'aux confins les plus éloignés de la terre.
  Peut-on trouver ailleurs, un tel Rocher, ou un tel Protecteur, qui puisse défendre ainsi les siens ? Personne d'autre n'est capable, comme Dieu, par l'intermédiaire de Ses prophètes, de prévoir ainsi, les évènements futurs. Tout s'est exactement déroulé conformément aux prédictions de l'Éternel, selon Ses desseins.
  Qui pourrait en faire autant ? Qui peut oser rivaliser avec le Libérateur et le Roi d'Israël ?

  9 Ce texte nous décrit la fabrication d'une « image taillée », révélant ainsi la folie des idolâtres. Lorsqu'un homme, après avoir employé du bois pour se chauffer, utilise le reste pour fabriquer une image taillée en lui adressant des prières, il sombre dans la déchéance la plus complète.
  L'homme déshonore considérablement Dieu, lorsqu'il représente ce Dernier sous une apparence humaine. Satan aveugle les incrédules, les entraînant dans des raisonnements absurdes au sujet de la religion. Si les hommes recherchent le bonheur dans les choses de ce monde, en restant totalement dans l'incrédulité, la superstition, ou n'importe quel domaine ésotérique, ils seront réduits à la ruine.
  Un cœur trompé par son propre orgueil, son amour du péché, et son éloignement de Dieu, détournent l'homme de la sainte Vérité et de l'adoration divine. Quand les affections des choses célestes sont perverties, un homme se tourne rapidement vers le mensonge, son véritable « trésor ».
  Nos cœurs sont-ils attirés par la richesse du monde et ses plaisirs ? Ils n'y trouveront certainement que mensonge. Si, pour notre salut, nous plaçons notre confiance dans des théories et des manifestations douteuses, nous ne serons que déçus. L'auto-analyse est la première étape vers notre affranchissement. Celui qui veut sauver son âme, doit interroger sa conscience : « ne suis-je pas sur la voie du mensonge » ?
  
  21 « Reviens à moi ». Face à de tels propos, ceux qui récidivent dans leur péché contre Dieu ne peuvent qu'être inquiets : tel était le cas des Juifs de l'époque de rédaction, de ce texte, qui tentaient, néanmoins avec ferveur, de se rapprocher de l'Éternel.
  Par notre Rédemption en Christ, nous ne pouvons qu'être encouragés à jouir de toutes sortes de bénédictions de Sa part. Nos transgressions et nos péchés sont comme d'épais nuages qui séparent le ciel de la terre : ils nous séparent de Dieu ; ils ne peuvent engendrer qu'un orage de colère divine. Quand Dieu pardonne le péché, Il « nettoie », Il dissipe ces nuages épais, de sorte que le chemin vers le ciel devient libre de nouveau. Cette nébulosité se trouve dispersée par le soleil de la Grâce ; elle disparaît totalement. Quand le péché est pardonné, l'âme réconfortée, est semblable au ciel qui s'éclaircit, après le passage des nuages et de la pluie.
  Israël ne devait pas se décourager ; rien n'est insurmontable pour Dieu : après avoir tant accompli pour Son peuple, Il pouvait très bien agir en faveur des Siens, selon Sa volonté.
  Ceux qui apprennent à découvrir vraiment le Seigneur, peuvent rapidement savoir comment éviter de suivre les voies du péché, au profit de leur connaissance du Maître. Les ennemis de Christ seront confondus, face à leurs erreurs, et à leurs différentes ruses.
  Le parfait accomplissement des prophéties de l'Écriture, confirme la véracité de son ensemble, et démontre son origine divine. Les bénédictions particulières de l'Éternel, prévues en faveur de Son peuple, malgré sa captivité à Babylone, étaient prévues dans ce texte, bien avant qu'il soit entré sous cette servitude. Les enfants d'Israël allaient rencontrer de grandes difficultés, lors de leur libération ; mais il leur était promis que par la Puissance divine, ils devaient tous être délivrés.
  L'Éternel s'est révélé comme le Libérateur de Son peuple ; que les Siens et l'église puissent vraiment connaître Celui qui leur parle, afin qu'ils puissent bénéficier de la Rédemption qui leur est offerte, en Christ !
  Il n'y a rien de plus honorable pour un personnage important, tel Cyrus, qu'être « l'instrument » de la Faveur divine, à l'égard des enfants d'Israël. Dans de telles circonstances, quand les hommes sont au service de leur prochain, sans chercher leur propre intérêt, ils sont conduits par Dieu pour accomplir tous Ses desseins, selon Son bon plaisir.
  Le bon Berger, infiniment plus noble que Cyrus, fait également la volonté de Son Père, jusqu'à ce que toutes les œuvres de ce Dernier soient accomplies !
