  20 Yahweh will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke, in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed, and until you perish quickly; because of the evil of your doings, by which you have forsaken me.
  
  21 Yahweh will make the pestilence cling to you, until he has consumed you from off the land, where you go in to possess it.
  
  22 Yahweh will strike you with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with fiery heat, and with the sword, and with blight, and with mildew; and they shall pursue you until you perish.

  26 Your dead body shall be food to all birds of the sky, and to the animals of the earth; and there shall be none to frighten them away.
  
  27 Yahweh will strike you with the boil of Egypt, and with the tumors, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, of which you can not be healed.
  
  28 Yahweh will strike you with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart;
  
  29 and you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways: and you shall be only oppressed and robbed always, and there shall be none to save you.
  
  30 You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: you shall build a house, and you shall not dwell therein: you shall plant a vineyard, and shall not use its fruit.
  
  31 Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it: your donkey shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you: your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have none to save you.
  
  32 Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people; and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nothing in the power of your hand.
  
  33 The fruit of your ground, and all your labors, shall a nation which you don't know eat up; and you shall be only oppressed and crushed always;
  
  34 so that you shall be mad for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.
  
  35 Yahweh will strike you in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore boil, of which you can not be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
  
  36 Yahweh will bring you, and your king whom you shall set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone.
  
  37 You shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples where Yahweh shall lead you away.
  
  38 You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather little in; for the locust shall consume it.
  
  39 You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but you shall neither drink of the wine, nor harvest; for the worm shall eat them.
  
  40 You shall have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off.
  
  41 You shall father sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.
  
  42 All your trees and the fruit of your ground shall the locust possess.
  
  43 The foreigner who is in the midst of you shall mount up above you higher and higher; and you shall come down lower and lower.
  
  44 He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him: he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.
  
  45 All these curses shall come on you, and shall pursue you, and overtake you, until you are destroyed; because you didn't listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you:
  
  46 and they shall be on you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your seed forever.
  
  47 Because you didn't serve Yahweh your God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things;
  
  48 therefore you shall serve your enemies whom Yahweh shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck, until he has destroyed you.
  
  49 Yahweh will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose language you shall not understand;
  
  50 a nation of fierce facial expressions, that shall not respect the person of the old, nor show favor to the young,
  
  51 and shall eat the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; that also shall not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.
  
  52 They shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which Yahweh your God has given you.
  
  53 You shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom Yahweh your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies shall distress you.
  
  54 The man who is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he has remaining;
  
  55 so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he has nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in all your gates.
  
  56 The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,
  
  57 and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your gates.
  
  58 If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, YAHWEH YOUR GOD;
  
  59 then Yahweh will make your plagues wonderful, and the plagues of your seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and severe sicknesses, and of long continuance.
  
  60 He will bring on you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of; and they shall cling to you.
  
  61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, Yahweh will bring them on you, until you are destroyed.
  
  62 You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of the sky for multitude; because you didn't listen to the voice of Yahweh your God.
  
  63 It shall happen that as Yahweh rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so Yahweh will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and you shall be plucked from off the land where you go in to possess it.
  
  64 Yahweh will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone.
  
  65 Among these nations you shall find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of your foot: but Yahweh will give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul;
  
  66 and your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you shall fear night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life.
  
  67 In the morning you shall say, "I wish it were evening!" and at evening you shall say, "I wish it were morning!" for the fear of your heart which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.

  1 "Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters! Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat! Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

  10 For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and doesn't return there, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
  
  11 so shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing I sent it to do.
  
  12 For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing; and all the trees of the fields shall clap their hands.

  45 Si Dieu a décidé d'infliger Sa vengeance envers Israël, quelles terribles plaies étaient en droit d'attendre les Hébreux, à cette époque ! Ce ne fut en fait, que le commencement des douleurs qui seront envoyées à ceux qui sont maudits par Dieu. Quelle terrible misère pourra-t-on voir alors, en ce lieu, où la vermine n'a plus d'emprise et où le feu est éternel ! Remarquez ce que le texte annonce, au sujet de la colère divine : elle surviendra, « jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit ».
  Il est surprenant de constater qu'un peuple aussi béni par le ciel, soit ensuite, autant rejeté ; il est également surprenant de voir comment Israël a été dispersé dans tous les pays du monde, sans toutefois se mélanger aux autres nations. Si le peuple ne servait pas Dieu avec joie, il devait s'attendre à être irrésistiblement soumis à ses ennemis.
  Si nous ne craignons pas le Nom terrible de l'Éternel, nous pouvons vraiment nous attendre à subir Ses épouvantables fléaux ; quelle que soit l'issue finale des événements, tous les hommes finiront par craindre Dieu. Il est même annoncé à Israël, qu'il sera retranché de la « terre promise », verset Deutéronome 28:63. Ceci s'est d'abord réalisé, lors de la captivité des Juifs, à Babylone, mais aussi, quand Jérusalem fut détruite par les Romains, et que ses habitants ne purent, là encore, rester en Palestine. Les Israélites ne devaient plus connaître le repos, même pour « la plante de leurs pieds », verset Deutéronome 28:65 ; ils devaient errer continuellement, en devant s'attendre soit à une prospérité éventuelle, soit à la crainte d'être persécutés. Même leur âme ne sera pas en paix, ce qui est le plus dramatique. Ils devaient être bannis de ville en ville, de pays en pays ; aller ça et là, toujours rejetés.
  Ces événements, comparés à la faveur témoignée à Israël, au début de son existence, par toutes les prophéties qui le mentionnaient, ne devraient pas nous seulement nous étonner, mais surtout nous convaincre de la véracité de la Parole de Dieu.
  Quand la prophétie finale, sur la conversion d'Israël à Christ, se réalisera, ce sera alors un signe miraculeux pour toutes les nations, le signe précurseur de la diffusion mondiale du vrai christianisme. L'accomplissement de toutes les prophéties relatives au peuple Juif, s'est déroulé jusqu'à présent, sur environ trois mille ans : cela prouve que Moïse parlait bien sous l'inspiration de l'Esprit divin ; il ne prédisait pas simplement la ruine des pécheurs, mais il tentait surtout de les avertir, afin qu'ils se repentent sincèrement, ou qu'ils soient ainsi sans excuses, en cas de désobéissance délibérée.
  Soyons reconnaissants que Christ nous ait sauvé des malédictions de la loi divine, en étant maudit à notre place, à la croix. Il a en effet porté toute la punition que nous méritions éternellement, à cause de nos péchés. Que les pécheurs puissent se tourner vers ce Refuge du salut ; que les croyants se réjouissent en Lui, et servent Dieu d'un cœur joyeux, dans l'abondance de Ses bénédictions spirituelles !
  
  Psaumes 119
  
  25 Tandis que les âmes des enfants de ce monde vivent les choses terrestres, les enfants de lumière, eux, supportent le lourd fardeau de leurs origines charnelles, dans leur cœur.
  C'est un réconfort indescriptible pour l'âme de savoir que toutes nos requêtes sont perçues par le Dieu de grâce. Nous pouvons témoigner des merveilles de Son amour rédempteur quand nous percevons les sentiers de Ses préceptes et que nous les empruntons. Celui qui se repent est transi de douleur par son péché : l'esprit, dans la souffrance, peut ressentir le même sentiment et il est de son intérêt d'épancher son âme à Dieu.
  Le chemin du mensonge révèle tous les moyens par lesquels les hommes trompent leurs semblables, ou sont trompés par Satan et ses artifices. Ceux qui connaissent et qui aiment la loi du Seigneur, désirent en connaître davantage et l'aimer de plus en plus. Le chemin de la piété est le chemin de la vérité, le seul qui mène au bonheur : nous devons toujours l'avoir réellement en ligne de mire. Ceux qui observent la Parole de Dieu peuvent, par la foi, avoir toute espérance en Dieu. Seigneur, ne me laisse jamais faire des choses honteuses et ne rejette jamais mes œuvres pour Ton service. Ceux qui se rendent aux cieux devraient presser le pas. Dieu, par son Esprit, affermit le cœur de ses enfants lorsqu’il leur donne la sagesse. Le croyant prie pour être libéré de l'emprise du péché.
  
  33 Enseigne-moi Tes statuts, non pas de simples mots, mais la manière de les mettre en pratique. Dieu, par son Esprit, nous permet de comprendre sa Parole ; mais l'Esprit de révélation n'est pas suffisant, nous devons aussi avoir l'Esprit de sagesse dans le cœur. Dieu met son Esprit en nous pour nous inciter à marcher selon Ses statuts.
  On retrouve ici la prière relative au péché de la convoitise. Ceux qui aspirent à être enracinés dans l'amour de Dieu, doivent d'abord déraciner leur amour du monde ; car l'amour du monde est inimitié contre Dieu.
  Oh, Dieu, fais-moi vite parcourir Tes sentiers, pour racheter le temps et pour accomplir chacun de mes devoirs, rempli d'un Esprit vivifiant. Étouffe la vanité qui est en nous et conduis-nous ; un voyageur se doit de ne pas s'attarder sur chacun des objets qui se présentent à sa vue. Les promesses de la Parole de Dieu mentionnent fréquemment la protection apportée au croyant véritable.
  Quand Satan a entraîné un enfant de Dieu vers les choses du monde, il continue son œuvre en lui reprochant cette chute. La victoire provient de la croix de Christ. Quand nous nous réjouissons dans la douceur de Ses commandements, Dieu favorise alors l'approfondissement de notre connaissance de Sa Parole. Et là où Dieu à décidé d'œuvrer, Sa Volonté s'accomplit toujours !
  
  41 Seigneur, je vois, par la foi, toutes tes miséricordes ; qu'elles puissent faire l'objet de ma prière.
  Quand on voit l'œuvre du salut, accomplie chez les saints, il apparaît clairement qu'il n'est pas vain de se confier en la Parole de Dieu. Il nous faut prier pour ne pas éprouver de honte ni de frayeur devant les hommes à propos des vérités divines.
  Le psalmiste est résolu à observer la loi de Dieu dans une obéissance constante, en veillant à ne pas se laisser aller. Le service du péché conduit à l'esclavage ; le service divin, c'est la liberté. Aucune joie, ni complète liberté ne peuvent se concevoir sans le respect de la loi divine. Nous ne devons éprouver aucune honte ni frayeur à propos de notre religion. Plus nous éprouvons de joie dans le service divin, plus nous approchons de la perfection. Que la Parole ne soit pas simplement bonne à nos yeux, mais qu'elle nous anime d'une joie bénéfique. Que mes forces tendent vers ce but. Ce genre de pensée doit se trouver chez chaque disciple convaincu !
  
  Esaïe 55
  
  1
  Invitation à recevoir gratuitement les bénédictions du Sauveur. (Esaïe 55:1-5)
  Les offres merveilleuses du Pardon et de la Paix. (Esaïe 55:6-13)
  Nous sommes tous invités à bénéficier des bénédictions qu'apporte le salut. En Christ, nous avons la plénitude en toutes choses, pour chacun comme pour tous !
  Ceux qui sont satisfaits par ce qu'offre le monde, n'éprouvent nul besoin, ni soif de Christ. Ils sont sans inquiétude quant à leur âme : quand Dieu, par contre, manifeste Sa Grâce, Il provoque alors cette soif, étant tout à fait capable de l'étancher spirituellement !
  Venez à Christ, Il est le « Rocher fendu », d'où jaillit la « source d'eaux vives ». Acceptez les saintes Ordonnances, elles ne sont « qu'allégresse » dans la cité de notre Dieu. Venez aux eaux de la vie, celles qui guérissent Apocalypse 22:17.
  Tel est l'appel de notre Sauveur, Jean 7:37. Venez et achetez : saisissez à pleines mains la Grâce de l'évangile ! Venez, et mangez : soyez rassasiés !
  Le monde nous déçoit souvent : nous nous fixons des objectifs ici-bas, et bien souvent nous sommes désappointés ; mais Christ surpasse toutes nos espérances ! Nous venons à Lui, et nous trouvons du « vin » et du « lait » (verset \\#55:1\\*). Il est impossible de tarifier les cadeaux qui nous sont offerts : ils n'ont pas de prix. En fait, ils sont déjà payés, car Christ les a achetés au prix fort, avec Son propre sang, 1Pierre 1:19.
  Nos désirs spirituels peuvent être sans limites, et nous n'avons rien à payer ; si Christ et les pensées célestes sont en nous, nous ne serons jamais « endettés », nous serons au contraire libérés par la Grâce.
  Écoutons sérieusement cet appel ; écartons toute arrogance qui pourrait rester dans notre cœur ; il faut non seulement nous approcher de Jésus, mais aussi accepter les commandements divins. Toutes les richesses et les plaisirs de ce monde ne sauraient apporter un réconfort durable à l'âme. Ils ne peuvent même pas satisfaire les appétits du corps ! Tout est vanité !
  Que les divers déboires que nous pouvons rencontrer ici-bas puissent nous mener finalement à Christ, ne cherchant toute satisfaction qu'en Lui. Nous pourrons, alors, et pas avant, trouver le repos pour notre âme. Suivez l'appel de ce texte, et votre âme vivra ! Remarquez avec quelle facilité d'accès, le bonheur vous est offert !
  Par les « Grâces assurées » à David, (verset \\#55:3\\*), nous pouvons discerner le Messie. Toutes les Grâces divines sont conformes aux promesses faites par Dieu ; c'est Lui qui les a faites, elles sont inhérentes à Sa Personne, et par Sa main, elles nous sont accordées. Nous ne pouvons de nous même trouver les « eaux », (verset \\#55:1\\*), mais Christ est notre Conducteur, notre leader, capable de nous montrer comment emprunter le « Chemin ». Notre part consiste à Lui obéir, et à Le suivre. Nul ne peut venir au Père, que par Lui. Il est le « Saint d'Israël », fidèle à Ses promesses ; L'Éternel a promis de glorifier Christ, en Lui donnant les païens comme « héritage ».

  6 Ce texte nous présente une offre merveilleuse de pardon, de paix, et de félicité. Il n'est jamais vain de chercher Dieu : Sa Parole nous appelle, et Son Esprit est à nos côtés ! Mais viendra un jour où on ne pourra plus Le trouver. Cela peut survenir à n'importe quel moment de notre vie ; il est certain qu'à notre mort et lors du Jugement, la « porte » sera alors fermée. En conséquence, il ne faut pas seulement changer de comportement, mais aussi nos pensées : nous devons « voir » différemment les personnes et le cours des évènements. Il n'est pas suffisant de cesser toute pratique du mal, nous devons en plus, nous efforcer de lutter contre les mauvaises pensées. Se repentir signifie en quelque sorte « revenir à notre Seigneur », Celui contre lequel nous nous sommes rebellés. Si nous agissons ainsi, Dieu nous assure d'un pardon sans limites, à la mesure de l'ampleur de nos offenses !
  Mais que personne ne traite à la légère cette « abondance » de Miséricorde ; « exploitez-la » quand le péché a été commis. Les pensées des hommes, au sujet du péché, de Christ, de la sainteté, du monde et de son entourage, diffèrent absolument de celles de Dieu, ne serait-ce qu'au sujet du pardon par exemple ! Nous pardonnons, mais nous n'oublions pas ; quand Dieu pardonne le péché, Il ne se souvient plus de ce dernier. La puissance de Sa Parole aux Royaumes de la Providence et de la Grâce, est aussi véritable qu'ici-bas. La « sainte Vérité » produit un changement spirituel dans l'esprit des hommes, changement que ni la pluie ni la neige ne seraient à même d'opérer sur terre !
  Cette Parole ne retournera pas à Dieu sans produire des effets remarquables. Si nous portons des regards objectifs sur l'église, nous pourrons constater à quel point Dieu a effectué de grandes choses, et discerner ce qu'Il fera encore pour elle. Les Juifs retourneront en « terre promise » ; il s'agit bien d'une des bénédictions prévues par l'Éternel ! La Grâce de l'évangile opérera un grand changement dans le cœur des hommes.
  Délivré de la colère à venir, le pécheur converti, a la conscience en paix ; l'Amour céleste dont il bénéficie le pousse, en retour, à se consacrer au service de Son Rédempteur. Au lieu d'être attiré par le monde, d'être querelleur, égoïste, ou sensuel, il devient patient, humble, aimable, et pacifique. L'espérance d'une telle perspective devrait nous inciter davantage à répandre la bonne nouvelle du salut !
  Que l'Esprit de vérité puisse nous aider à discerner la plénitude, la liberté, et la grandeur de la merveilleuse Miséricorde de Christ, nous ôtant ainsi toute fausse perspective d'étroitesse de la Grâce souveraine !
