  6 Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them, "Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Yahweh."
  
  7 They said to the people, "Advance! March around the city, and let the armed men pass on before Yahweh's ark."
  
  8 It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before Yahweh advanced, and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh followed them.
  
  9 The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the ark went after them. The trumpets sounded as they went.
  
  10 Joshua commanded the people, saying, "You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout."
  
  11 So he caused the ark of Yahweh to go around the city, going about it once. Then they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
  
  12 Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh.
  
  13 The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Yahweh went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them. The rear guard came after the ark of Yahweh. The trumpets sounded as they went.
  
  14 The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days.
  
  15 It happened on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on this day they marched around the city seven times.
  
  16 It happened at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, "Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city!
  
  17 The city shall be devoted, even it and all that is in it, to Yahweh. Only Rahab the prostitute shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
  
  18 But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so would you make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.
  
  19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy to Yahweh. They shall come into Yahweh's treasury."
  
  20 So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. It happened, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
  
  21 They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword.
  
  22 Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the prostitute's house, and bring out from there the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her."
  
  23 The young men who were spies went in, and brought out Rahab with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. They also brought out all her relatives, and they set them outside of the camp of Israel.
  
  24 They burnt the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only they put the silver, the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron into the treasury of Yahweh's house.
  
  25 But Rahab the prostitute, her father's household, and all that she had, Joshua saved alive. She lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
  
  26 Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, "Cursed is the man before Yahweh, who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up its gates."
  
  27 So Yahweh was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

  14 For Yahweh will judge his people, and have compassion on his servants.
  
  15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
  
  16 They have mouths, but they can't speak. They have eyes, but they can't see.
  
  17 They have ears, but they can't hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths.
  
  18 Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them.
  
  19 House of Israel, praise Yahweh! House of Aaron, praise Yahweh!
  
  20 House of Levi, praise Yahweh! You who fear Yahweh, praise Yahweh!

  Esaïe 66
  
  1 Thus says Yahweh, "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: what kind of house will you build to me? and what place shall be my rest?
  
  2 For all these things has my hand made, and so all these things came to be," says Yahweh: "but to this man will I look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.
  
  3 He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog's neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig's blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations:
  
  4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears on them; because when I called, no one answered; when I spoke, they didn't listen; but they did that which was evil in my eyes, and chose that in which I didn't delight."
  
  5 Hear the word of Yahweh, you who tremble at his word: "Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name's sake, have said, 'Let Yahweh be glorified, that we may see your joy;' but it is those who shall be disappointed.
  
  6 A voice of tumult from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of Yahweh that renders recompense to his enemies.
  
  7 "Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she delivered a son.
  
  8 Who has heard such a thing? who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? shall a nation be brought forth at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
  
  9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth?" says Yahweh: "shall I who cause to bring forth shut the womb?" says your God.
  
  10 "Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her: rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn over her;
  
  11 that you may nurse and be satisfied at the comforting breasts; that you may drink deeply, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory."
  
  12 For thus says Yahweh, "Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream: and you will nurse. You will be carried on her side, and will be dandled on her knees.
  
  13 As one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted in Jerusalem."
  
  14 You will see it, and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like the tender grass: and the hand of Yahweh shall be known toward his servants; and he will have indignation against his enemies.
  
  15 For, behold, Yahweh will come with fire, and his chariots shall be like the whirlwind; to render his anger with fierceness, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
  
  16 For by fire will Yahweh execute judgment, and by his sword, on all flesh; and the slain of Yahweh shall be many.
  
  17 "Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves to go to the gardens, behind one in the midst, eating pig's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, they shall come to an end together," says Yahweh.
  
  18 "For I know their works and their thoughts: the time comes, that I will gather all nations and languages; and they shall come, and shall see my glory.
  
  19 "I will set a sign among them, and I will send such as escape of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the islands afar off, who have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations.
  
  20 They shall bring all your brothers out of all the nations for an offering to Yahweh, on horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and on mules, and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says Yahweh, as the children of Israel bring their offering in a clean vessel into the house of Yahweh.
  
  21 Of them also will I take for priests and for Levites," says Yahweh.
  
  22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me," says Yahweh, "so your seed and your name shall remain.
  
  23 It shall happen, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me," says Yahweh.
  
  24 "They shall go forth, and look on the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they will be loathsome to all mankind."

  6 Quel que soit l'endroit où l'on plaçait l'arche, le peuple la suivait.
  Les serviteurs de Dieu, grâce aux « trompettes de l'évangile éternel », qui proclament la liberté et la victoire, doivent encourager ceux qui suivent Christ, dans leurs combats spirituels.
  Comme les enfants d'Israël étaient assurés de la véracité des promesses divines, ils savaient que cette fois encore, ils pouvaient compter sur l'Éternel. Pour conclure cette attaque de la ville, ils devaient crier : c'est ce qu'ils firent, et les murs de la ville s'écroulèrent. C'était le cri de la foi : ils croyaient que les remparts de Jéricho allaient tomber. Ce cri était une véritable prière ; ils demandèrent que les cieux les aident : c'est ce qui arriva !
  
  17 Jéricho devait être solennellement détruite, sacrifiée au titre de la Justice divine, à la mesure des péchés de ceux qui l'habitaient. L'Éternel fit bien la distinction entre Ses créatures, qui Lui avaient confié leur vie, et les pécheurs de Jéricho, qui allaient donner la leur, en rançon. Rahab, la prostituée, ne périt pas avec les rebelles, Heb 11:31. Tous les siens furent aussi épargnés ; sa foi les a sauvés, elle et sa maison, Actes 16:31. Cette femme a été épargnée du feu destructeur. Il fallait choisir : aller dans la maison de Rahab, ou avec les hommes de Jéricho ; nous devons également être fixés sur notre cheminement : pour ou contre le salut qui nous est offert ; marcherons-nous par la foi, en Christ, Celui qui nous a tant aimés ? Sachons bien discerner l'importance de ce choix, faisons le bon ! Dans ce passage, Dieu montre encore l'aspect terrible de Sa malédiction. Celui qui doit la subir n'a aucune chance d'y échapper : il connaîtra la ruine.
  
  Psaumes 135
  
  1
  Dieu doit être loué pour Sa miséricorde. (Psaumes 135:1-4)
  Pour Sa puissance et Ses jugements. (Psaumes 135:5-14)
  La vanité des idoles. (Psaumes 135:15-21)
  L'objet de la louange est la bénédiction et la grâce qui abondent dans l'amour éternel divin. Ce nom de Dieu, le Dieu des promesses, le Père de Christ, nous bénit de toutes bénédictions spirituelles, en Lui, il doit être aimé et loué en retour. Le Seigneur s'est choisi un peuple pour qu'en retour, celui-ci Le loue. Si les siens ne Lui adressent aucune louange, ils sont les plus ingrats qui puissent exister.
  
  5 Dieu est, et sera toujours le même pour Son église, un Dieu de grâce, un Dieu fidèle, aux œuvres merveilleuses. Son église est et sera toujours la même à Ses yeux : un peuple reconnaissant qui Lui adresse ses louanges. Son nom est Éternel. Il fera parcourir aux siens les chemins de la miséricorde afin qu'ils se réjouissent en Sa bonté.
  
  15 Ces versets mettent en garde les croyants contre l'idolâtrie et la fausse adoration, en montrant quelle sorte de dieu les païens adoraient. Quand on voit la condition des nations païennes qui adorent les idoles, on ne peut être que vraiment reconnaissants de connaître ce qui est de loin le meilleur. Ayons pitié et prions pour ces païens obscurcis, pour ces pécheurs que l'on trompe. Efforçons-nous de glorifier Son Nom et annonçons Sa vérité, non seulement avec nos lèvres, mais avec des vies pleines de sainteté, copiant l'exemple de bonté et de vérité représenté par Christ.
  
  Psaumes 136
  
  1
  Dieu doit être adoré : en tant que Créateur du monde. (Psaumes 136:1-9)
  En tant que Dieu d'Israël et Sauveur. (Psaumes 136:10-22)
  Pour les bénédictions que tous ont reçues. (Psaumes 136:23-26)
  Nous sommes oublieux et les choses doivent souvent nous être répétées. Par le mot « bonté », nous discernons la disposition du Seigneur à sauver ceux qui sont devenus misérables et vils par le péché, et toutes les dispositions prises, en vue de la rédemption divine, en Jésus Christ. Cette bonté a été établie depuis toujours et demeurera à jamais, à l'égard de tous ceux qui lui font confiance. Le Seigneur est prêt, en permanence, à manifester cette bonté à ceux qui la recherchent ; c'est ce qui fait l'objet de toute notre espérance et de tout notre réconfort.
  
  10 Les grandes choses faites par Dieu à l'égard d'Israël, quand Il le tira hors d'Égypte, n'étaient qu'une manifestation de sa bonté incessante ; c'est, en quelque sorte, une image de notre rédemption en Christ, une rédemption éternelle. Il est bon d'entrer dans la faveur divine et de constater qu'à chaque occasion, Sa bonté dure à toujours. Il a placé Son peuple dans un pays merveilleux ; c'est une image de la Miséricorde que nous avons en Jésus-Christ.
  
  23 Dans ce texte, la miséricorde éternelle de Dieu, à l'égard de l'église, est mise en valeur ; béni soit Dieu pour tous Ses dons, toute Sa gloire, pour le salut qu'Il nous a offert en Son Fils. Sachons reconnaître Sa puissance rédemptrice afin que nous puissions Le servir chaque jour, en toute droiture.
  Que celui qui nous a procuré la nourriture physique, puisse nourrir nos âmes par la vie éternelle ; que nos pensées soient vivifiées par Sa grâce afin que nous Lui adressions les remerciements et la louange qui lui sont dus, car Sa bonté dure à toujours. Gardons bien à l'esprit toutes les bontés que nous avons reçues du Seigneur et rendons-Lui grâce continuellement !
  
  Esaïe 66
  
  1
  Dieu regarde au cœur ; les hommes, à cause de leurs fautes, craignent Sa vengeance. (Esaïe 66:1-4)
  La croissance de l'église, quand les Juifs et les Gentils seront rassemblés par le Rédempteur. (Esaïe 66:5-14)
  Tous les ennemis de l'église seront réduits à néant, et la ruine finale des impies sera manifeste. (Esaïe 66:15-24)
  Les juifs adressaient de nombreuses louanges dans le temple. Mais quelle satisfaction l'Esprit de l'Éternel pouvait-Il tirer d'un tel bâtiment, « fait de mains d'homme » ?
  Dieu dispose du ciel et de la terre, éléments qu'Il a créés, ainsi que de temples pour L'adorer, fabriqués par l'homme ; le Seigneur porte Ses regards sur ce dernier, afin de pouvoir le secourir quand il Le recherche de tout son cœur, en toute humilité ; Il vient au secours de celui qui est contrit par les douleurs du péché : un tel cœur est un « temple vivant » pour Dieu !
  Le sacrifice du méchant est non seulement inacceptable, mais il est aussi une grande offense à Dieu : celui qui offre un sacrifice « théorique », conforme à la loi, met en fait, de côté, le sacrifice de Christ. Celui qui « brûle de l'encens » pour son propre compte, méprise en fait « l'encens spirituel » de l'intercession de Christ : il adore, pour ainsi dire, une idole. Les hommes seront trompés par leur vaine confiance. Les cœurs incrédules et les consciences souillées, sont suffisants pour rendre les hommes malheureux, pour les faire errer dans leurs propres craintes.
  Quels que soient les actes personnels que peuvent commettre les hommes, en méprisant le véritable sacerdoce, l'expiation, et l'intervention de Christ, ces actes ne pourront que les conduire à être détestés par Dieu.
  
  5 Le prophète se tourne vers ceux qui respectent la Parole de Dieu, il les réconforte et les encourage.
  Le Seigneur apparaîtra, à la joie de l'humble croyant, mais à la confusion des hypocrites et des persécuteurs. Quand l'Esprit descendit ici-bas, et quand l'évangile se répandit, émanant de Sion, des multitudes se convertirent en peu de temps. La Parole de Dieu, et particulièrement Ses Promesses et Ses Ordonnances, sont les consolations de l'église. Un bonheur sincère gagne tous les chrétiens quand un nouveau converti vient à Christ. En quelque endroit où il est reçu avec puissance, l'évangile est semblable à un fleuve de paix, nous portant vers un océan infini de bonheur éternel !
  Les réconforts divins atteignent l'homme au plus profond de son cœur ; la joie que dispense le Seigneur sera la force du croyant. La Justice et la Miséricorde divines seront manifestées, et magnifiées éternellement.
  
  15 Ce texte est une déclaration prophétique, relative à la vengeance du Seigneur sur tous les ennemis de Son église, en particulier sur les « antichrétiens » qui s'opposeront à l'évangile, aux « derniers jours ».
  Les versets Esaïe 66:19,20, soulignent l'abondance de moyens dont les pécheurs disposent pour se convertir. Ces expressions sont figuratives : elles expriment les nombreux et merveilleux soutiens que Dieu accorde aux « élus », pour entrer dans la « demeure » de Christ. Tous seront les bienvenus, et rien ne pourra nuire à leur aide et à leur encouragement spirituel. Le ministère de l'évangile sera établi dans l'église ; tous offriront un culte solennel au Seigneur.
  Le dernier verset de ce texte, décrit la nature exacte du châtiment futur, réservé aux pécheurs. Le « juste » et le « méchant » seront séparés : notre Sauveur annonce la misère et les tourments éternels réservés aux pécheurs impénitents.
  En l'honneur de cette Grâce libératrice, dont les rachetés du Seigneur bénéficient, en toute humilité et dans une crainte respectueuse, des cantiques triomphants sont chantés.
  Ésaïe conclut ses prophéties par cette représentation des états opposés du « juste » et du « méchant », qui englobe la race humaine en totalité.
  Que Dieu puisse nous accorder, pour la cause de Christ, de faire partie de ceux qui craignent et aiment Son Nom, qui se réfèrent à Ses vérités, et qui persévèrent dans chaque bonne œuvre, visant à recevoir cette merveilleuse invitation du Seigneur Jésus : venez, vous tous qui êtes bénis de Mon Père, prenez part à l'héritage du royaume qui vous est réservé, dès la fondation du monde !
