- Josué 22
  
  1 Then Joshua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,
  
  2 and said to them, "You have kept all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, and have listened to my voice in all that I commanded you.
  
  3 You have not left your brothers these many days to this day, but have performed the duty of the commandment of Yahweh your God.
  
  4 Now Yahweh your God has given rest to your brothers, as he spoke to them. Therefore now return and go to your tents, to the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan.
  
  5 Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."
  
  6 So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went to their tents.
  
  7 Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given inheritance in Bashan; but to the other half gave Joshua among their brothers beyond the Jordan westward. Moreover when Joshua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them,
  
  8 and spoke to them, saying, "Return with much wealth to your tents, with very much livestock, with silver, with gold, with brass, with iron, and with very much clothing. Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers."
  
  9 The children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, which they owned, according to the commandment of Yahweh by Moses.
  
  10 When they came to the region about the Jordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, a great altar to look at.
  
  11 The children of Israel heard this, "Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that pertains to the children of Israel."
  
  12 When the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.
  
  13 The children of Israel sent to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,
  
  14 and with him ten princes, one prince of a fathers' house for each of the tribes of Israel; and they were everyone of them head of their fathers' houses among the thousands of Israel.
  
  15 They came to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying,
  
  16 "Thus says the whole congregation of Yahweh, 'What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following Yahweh, in that you have built yourselves an altar, to rebel this day against Yahweh?
  
  17 Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day, although there came a plague on the congregation of Yahweh,
  
  18 that you must turn away this day from following Yahweh? It will be, since you rebel today against Yahweh, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
  
  19 However, if the land of your possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of Yahweh, in which Yahweh's tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us; but don't rebel against Yahweh, nor rebel against us, in building an altar other than the altar of Yahweh our God.
  
  20 Didn't Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? That man didn't perish alone in his iniquity.'"
  
  21 Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered, and spoke to the heads of the thousands of Israel,
  
  22 "The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, the Mighty One, God, Yahweh, he knows; and Israel shall know: if it was in rebellion, or if in trespass against Yahweh (don't save us this day),
  
  23 that we have built us an altar to turn away from following Yahweh; or if to offer burnt offering or meal offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace offerings, let Yahweh himself require it.
  
  24 "If we have not out of concern done this, and for a reason, saying, 'In time to come your children might speak to our children, saying, "What have you to do with Yahweh, the God of Israel?
  
  25 For Yahweh has made the Jordan a border between us and you, you children of Reuben and children of Gad. You have no portion in Yahweh."' So your children might make our children cease from fearing Yahweh.
  
  26 "Therefore we said, 'Let's now prepare to build ourselves an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice;
  
  27 but it will be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may perform the service of Yahweh before him with our burnt offerings, with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings;' that your children may not tell our children in time to come, 'You have no portion in Yahweh.'
  
  28 "Therefore we said, 'It shall be, when they tell us or our generations this in time to come, that we shall say, "Behold the pattern of the altar of Yahweh, which our fathers made, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice; but it is a witness between us and you."'
  
  29 "Far be it from us that we should rebel against Yahweh, and turn away this day from following Yahweh, to build an altar for burnt offering, for meal offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of Yahweh our God that is before his tabernacle!"
  
  30 When Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Israel that were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spoke, it pleased them well.
  
  31 Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the children of Reuben, to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, "Today we know that Yahweh is in the midst of us, because you have not committed this trespass against Yahweh. Now you have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of Yahweh."
  
  32 Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.
  
  33 The thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and spoke no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land in which the children of Reuben and the children of Gad lived.
  
  34 The children of Reuben and the children of Gad named the altar "A Witness Between Us that Yahweh is God."
  
  Jérémie 11
  
  1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
  
  2 Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
  
  3 and say to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Cursed is the man who doesn't hear the words of this covenant,
  
  4 which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so you shall be my people, and I will be your God;
  
  5 that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, Yahweh.
  
  6 Yahweh said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear the words of this covenant, and do them.
  
  7 For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
  
  8 Yet they didn't obey, nor turn their ear, but walked everyone in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn't do them.
  
  9 Yahweh said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
  
  10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
  
  11 Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.
  
  12 Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
  
  13 For according to the number of your cities are your gods, Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.
  
  14 Therefore don't pray for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.
  
  15 What has my beloved to do in my house, since she has worked lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from you? when you do evil, then you rejoice.
  
  16 Yahweh called your name, A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.
  
  17 For Yahweh of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have worked for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.
  
  18 Yahweh gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then you showed me their doings.
  
  19 But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I didn't know that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
  
  20 But, Yahweh of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, I shall see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.
  
  21 Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You shall not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, that you not die by our hand;
  
  22 therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;
  
  23 and there shall be no remnant to them: for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
  
  Actes 2
  
  1 Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place.
  
  2 Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
  
  3 Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them.
  
  4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.
  
  5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky.
  
  6 When this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language.
  
  7 They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Behold, aren't all these who speak Galileans?
  
  8 How do we hear, everyone in our own native language?
  
  9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,
  
  10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
  
  11 Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!"
  
  12 They were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, "What does this mean?"
  
  13 Others, mocking, said, "They are filled with new wine."
  
  14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke out to them, "You men of Judea, and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
  
  15 For these aren't drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day .
  
  16 But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:
  
  17 'It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.
  
  18 Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy.
  
  19 I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and billows of smoke.
  
  20 The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
  
  21 It will be, that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
  
  22 "Men of Israel, hear these words! Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as you yourselves know,
  
  23 him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed;
  
  24 whom God raised up, having freed him from the agony of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it.
  
  25 For David says concerning him, 'I saw the Lord always before my face, For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.
  
  26 Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope;
  
  27 because you will not leave my soul in Hades , neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay.
  
  28 You made known to me the ways of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence.'
  
  29 "Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
  
  30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,
  
  31 he foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was his soul left in Hades , nor did his flesh see decay.
  
  32 This Jesus God raised up, to which we all are witnesses.
  
  33 Being therefore exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this, which you now see and hear.
  
  34 For David didn't ascend into the heavens, but he says himself, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit by my right hand,
  
  35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."'
  
  36 "Let all the house of Israel therefore know certainly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified."
  
  37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
  
  38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  
  39 For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself."
  
  40 With many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation!"
  
  41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. There were added that day about three thousand souls.
  
  42 They continued steadfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer.
  
  43 Fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
  
  44 All who believed were together, and had all things in common.
  
  45 They sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, according as anyone had need.
  
  46 Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart,
  
  47 praising God, and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to the assembly day by day those who were being saved.

  1
  Ruben et Gad, ainsi que la demi-tribu de Manassé, renvoyés dans leur pays. (Josué 22:1-9)
  Ils construisent l'autel du témoignage, la congrégation d'Israël est offensée. (Josué 22:10-20)

  Josué congédia sagement les tribus de Ruben, de Gad, et la demi tribu de Manassé.
  Il est vain de connaître les ordonnances divines sans les mettre en pratique ; elles se révèleront alors complètement inutiles. Elles doivent être observées avec diligence. Un des meilleurs exemples en la matière se trouve dans le premier commandement, celui d'aimer le Seigneur, notre Dieu, notre Meilleur Ami !
  Tant que ce principe régit notre cœur, nous sommes plus à même de marcher dans les voies du Seigneur, même celles qui sont étroites et escarpées. En chaque occasion, sachons garder constamment Ses ordonnances en notre cœur ; empressons-nous de servir notre Maître et Son royaume, avec zèle, de toute notre âme, parmi les hommes, ici-bas ! Ce conseil s'adresse à tous.
  Que Dieu puisse nous donner la grâce d'accomplir ce service !
  
  10 Nous voyons dans ce texte, tout le soin que prenaient les tribus de Ruben, de Gad et la demi tribu de Manassé, à garder les coutumes religieuses des Cananéens. À première vue, on pourrait penser qu'ils voulaient bâtir un autel supplémentaire, à côté de celui de Silo. Dieu est jaloux de ses institutions ; nous devrions veiller à éviter tout particulièrement ce qui a trait à l'idolâtrie. Les corruptions dans la religion sont les premières attaques que rencontre cette dernière. La résolution et le zèle de ces tribus, pour construire cet autel, sont peu recommandables. Beaucoup de conflits pourraient être évités ou rapidement étouffés, en recherchant simplement l'origine de l'offense faite à la partie adverse. Le rappel des graves péchés que nous avons pu commettre, devrait nous inciter à rester sur nos gardes, de façon à ne pas recommencer : la voie de l'iniquité est une pente facile à suivre. Nous devons tous reprendre notre prochain, lorsque ce dernier s'égare, de peur que son péché ne puisse nous atteindre, Le 19:17.
  Le fait que les princes des autres tribus aient proposé à leurs frères de revenir sur la terre où se trouvait le tabernacle de l'Éternel, était parfaitement dans l'esprit Israélite.
  
  21 Les reproches que les autres tribus d'Israël formulèrent à leurs frères, étaient légitimes. Ils les firent avec humilité et solennité, marquant ainsi leur résolution et leur fermeté à remettre toutes choses en ordre. La crainte et le respect divins animèrent cette démarche. Cette confession de foi, somme toute assez brève, aurait dû dissuader ces tribus d'Israël, d'adorer d'autres dieux.
  Sachons toujours être des plus sérieux, quand nous parlons de Dieu, sachons annoncer Son Nom avec la solennité qui s'impose. Ceux qui mentionnent les cieux dans leurs propos, en utilisant des termes du genre, « Dieu seul sait », utilisent en fait Son Nom en vain. Ils manifestent néanmoins une certaine honnêteté : Dieu connaît, parfaitement toutes les pensées et les intentions du cœur. Il est très important que tous les actes relatifs à notre piété, soient approuvés par Dieu : nous devons garder à l'esprit, le fait qu'Il connaît le cœur de l'homme. Si nos sentiments pour Dieu sont sincères, cela devrait inciter les autres à Lui rendre gloire, en voyant les fruits de notre conduite. Les enfants d'Israël fautifs dédaignèrent l'accusation faite par leurs frères, en révélant le motif qui les poussa à construire cet autel. Ceux qui ont goûté aux agréments et aux bénéfices inhérents à l'obéissance des ordonnances divines, ne peuvent que les enseigner à leurs enfants, afin qu'ils les observent à leur tour et qu'ils les mettent en pratique. Christ est le « grand Autel », sur lequel sont sanctifiées toutes les fautes ; l'intérêt le plus manifeste que nous avons à Le connaître, est le témoignage de la présence de Son Esprit dans notre cœur !
  
  30 Il était bon de voir la paix régner ainsi, au sein des tribus d'Israël : tous étaient zélés pour servir l'Éternel ; les querelles de religion, au nom de la « sagesse » et de « l'amour », sont souvent acharnées et il est parfois difficile de les apaiser. Malgré l'évidence de la faute des fils de Ruben, de Gad et de Manassé, les esprits orgueilleux et aigris des princes d'Israël et des chefs des milliers se sont apaisés, vis-à-vis de leurs frères, et ils finirent par abandonner leur poursuite. Mais Israël n'avait jamais été aussi ébranlé.
  L'innocence de ces trois tribus était en quelque sorte, le témoignage que l'Éternel était encore présent dans leur cœur. Notre zèle dans la fraternité, se manifestant dans la foi et l'amour, au sein de l'église, en dépit des craintes de voir ces derniers décroître, devrait être un but qui motive notre joie et notre satisfaction personnelles.
  L'autel dont il est question dans ce passage s'appelait Ed, « un témoignage ». Il était en effet la preuve que les enfants d'Israël cherchaient à garder leur religion pure et entière, pour que leur descendance continue à suivre l'Éternel. Heureux les chrétiens qui désirent copier cet exemple des tribus d'Israël : unir leur zèle et leur cohésion fraternelle pour la cause de la vérité, le tout avec franchise et humilité, toujours prêts à comprendre les problèmes des autres, et à s'expliquer avec eux. Que le Seigneur puisse augmenter le nombre de ceux qui veulent garder l'unité de l'Esprit, dans la paix ! Que la grâce et la consolation spirituelles soient avec tous ceux qui aiment Jésus Christ sincèrement !
  
  Jérémie 11
  
  1
  Les Juifs désobéissants sont réprimandés. (Jérémie 11:1-10)
  Leur ruine totale. (Jérémie 11:11-17)
  Le peuple allait à sa ruine, en cherchant à tuer le prophète. (Jérémie 11:18-23)
  Dieu a juré de ne jamais accorder de bénédictions à Ses créatures, tant qu'elles persisteraient à désobéir délibérément.
  Le Seigneur a promis d'accepter librement tous les croyants, en leur accordant Son pardon ; mais aucun homme ne peut être sauvé s'il n'obéit pas au commandement divin de la repentance, s'il ne croit pas en Christ, s'il ne se sépare pas du péché et du monde, sans vivre en nouveauté de vie.
  Généralement les hommes écoutent volontiers ceux qui parlent de différentes doctrines, de promesses, et de privilèges, plus ou moins « douteux » ; mais quand leur véritable devoir spirituel est mentionné, ils font la sourde oreille !
  
  11 Le mal poursuit les pécheurs, ils s'empêtrent alors dans différents pièges, dont ils ne peuvent se libérer. Dans leur détresse, tous leurs autels et leurs différents dieux ne leur sont alors guère utiles !
  Ceux dont les prières ne sont pas « entendues » par le ciel, ne doivent pas s'attendre à bénéficier de celles des autres. Leur prétendue piété sera alors complètement inutile ! Quand l'épreuve les surprend, ils tentent de placer leur confiance en une fausse religion, mais Dieu les rejette alors. Ils auront beau mentionner leur soi-disant appartenance au Seigneur, mais ils n'auront aucun argument favorable en leur faveur.
  Chaque péché commis contre Dieu se retourne en fait contre nous, avec toutes les conséquences que cela implique.
  
  18 Le prophète Jérémie mentionne souvent son expérience, les périodes où il vécut étant vraiment difficiles. Les habitants de sa ville cherchaient comment le faire mourir. Ils pensaient bien pouvoir mettre fin à ses jours, mais le prophète survécu à toutes les attaques de ses ennemis ; ces opposants pensaient pouvoir éradiquer son œuvre prophétique, mais cette dernière est toujours bien présente à ce jour, et elle sera bénie jusqu'aux derniers temps !
  Dieu connaît tous les desseins secrets de Ses ennemis, de même que ceux de Son peuple ; Il peut très bien, selon Sa volonté, les révéler. La Justice de Dieu est une véritable terreur pour le méchant, par contre, elle réconforte l'homme pieux !
  Quand on nous a fait du tort, nous avons Dieu pour défendre notre cause, et il est d'ailleurs de notre devoir spirituel, de nous en remettre à Lui en de tels cas. Nous devrions également bien veiller à la « santé » de notre âme, afin de ne pas être atteints, par les « traits du malin » ; nous devons patiemment prier pour nos ennemis, manifester de la bonté envers eux, afin que nous puissions surmonter le mal par le bien !
  
  Actes 2
  
  1
  L'effusion du Saint-Esprit au jour de la Pentecôte. (Actes 2:1-4)

  Nous ne pouvons pas oublier, pendant que le Maître était encore avec Ses disciples, les luttes fréquentes entre ces derniers pour savoir qui serait le plus grand ; désormais, toutes ces luttes ont pris fin. Durant les derniers temps de Jésus ici-bas, les apôtres priaient déjà souvent tous ensemble.
  Si nous désirons que l'Esprit se répande sur nous, soyons tous d’un même accord. Malgré nos divergences ici-bas, semblables à celles des disciples, aimons-nous les uns les autres : là où des frères demeurent ensemble, dans l'unité, le Seigneur envoie sa bénédiction.
  Un vent survint dans la maison avec une grande violence. C’était une manifestation de la puissance et de l'action de l'Esprit de Dieu sur les hommes, et par conséquent sur le monde. Les convictions envoyées par l'Esprit réconfortent l’âme ; le souffle violent de ce « vent » tempétueux prépare cette dernière à Le recevoir.
  Lors de ce rassemblement des disciples, il y eut une apparition, semblable à des langues de feu qui se posèrent sur chacun d'eux, conformément à ce qu’avait annoncé Jean-Baptiste, en ce qui concernait Christ : Il vous baptisera du Saint-Esprit et de feu, Matthieu 3:11. L'Esprit, tel du feu, fait « fondre » le cœur, Il élimine les « scories du péché », et engendre de pieuses pensées ; c'est avec ce feu, semblable à celui d’un autel, que les « sacrifices spirituels » sont offerts.
  Les disciples étaient tous remplis de l'Esprit Saint, beaucoup plus qu'auparavant. Ils furent sanctifiés par les grâces de l'Esprit ; ils allaient délaisser progressivement les intérêts de ce monde, pour se rendre spirituellement conformes aux habitants du royaume céleste. Ils étaient véritablement encouragés par l'Esprit, plus que jamais réjouis, dans l'amour de Christ et dans l'espérance céleste : toutes leurs peines ont été ainsi ôtées.
  Ils furent remplis des dons du Saint-Esprit : ils possédaient des pouvoirs miraculeux, pour l'avancement de l'évangile. Ils annoncèrent l’évangile, non par le biais de prédications ou de méditations préparées, mais comme l'Esprit leur donnait de s'exprimer spontanément.
  
  5 Les différentes langues qui virent le jour à Babel entravèrent notablement le développement de la connaissance spirituelle et de la religion.
  Les disciples que le Seigneur a d'abord employés pour l’essor de la religion chrétienne, n'auraient pu faire aucun progrès sans le don du Saint-Esprit : cela prouve bien que leur autorité venait de Dieu !
  
  14 Le sermon de Pierre montre qu'il s'est désormais complètement relevé de sa « chute », et qu'il a été totalement restauré dans la faveur divine ; celui qui avait renié Christ, Le confesse désormais avec hardiesse !
  Sa description de l’onction miraculeuse de l'Esprit était destinée à inviter les auditeurs à accepter la foi en Christ, et à se joindre à Son église. Cette présence nouvelle de l’Esprit ici-bas était l'accomplissement de l'Écriture, le fruit et la preuve de la résurrection et de l’ascension de Christ.
  Bien que Pierre soit rempli du Saint-Esprit, et parle dans des langues dont ce Dernier l’a doté pour s'exprimer, il ne pense cependant pas mettre de côté l'Écriture.
  Ceux qui étudient la Personne de Christ n'apprennent jamais plus ailleurs que ce qui est écrit dans la Bible ; l'Esprit nous a été donné, non pour modifier le sens des Écritures, mais pour nous permettre de les comprendre, de les approuver, et d’y obéir.
  Il est certain que nul n'échappera à la condamnation, au grand jour du Seigneur, excepté ceux qui auront fait appel à Son Fils, Jésus-Christ, le Sauveur des pécheurs, et le Juge de toute l'humanité !
  
  22 Animé par le don du Saint-Esprit, Pierre prêche Jésus à ses auditeurs, les Juifs : il retrace l'histoire de Christ. Nous trouvons en particulier le récit de Sa mort et de Ses souffrances, dont tous furent témoins quelques semaines plus tôt.
  La mort de Christ doit être considérée comme un acte prévu par Dieu, elle est le résultat de Sa Grâce et de Sa Sagesse merveilleuses. Par ce sacrifice, la Justice divine a été satisfaite : Dieu et l'homme sont de nouveau réunis, et Christ lui-même est désormais glorifié, selon un plan éternel immuable. Cette mise à mort de Jésus a été exécutée par le peuple, ce fut un péché terrible, une folie extrême. La résurrection de Christ a repoussé les dégâts, la corruption que pouvait occasionner Sa mort ; c’est ce thème que Pierre a grandement développé.
  Christ est le « Saint » de Dieu, sanctifié et mis à part pour Son service, pour l'œuvre de la rédemption. Sa mort et Ses souffrances ne L’ont pas simplement élevé, elles ont permis à tous les Siens d’accéder à une vie bénie, pour toujours ! Ce sacrifice a eu lieu comme prédit, les apôtres en furent témoins. Sa résurrection ne concerne pas Christ seul ; ce Dernier a octroyé à Ses disciples des dons miraculeux et des bénédictions spirituelles particulières.
  Au travers de ce Sauveur, les voies de la vie éternelle sont indiquées ; nous sommes encouragés à attendre la présence de Dieu et Sa faveur, pour toujours. Tout ceci jaillit de l’assurance que Jésus est le Seigneur et le Sauveur, l’Oint de Dieu !
  
  37 Dès la première prédication de Pierre, poussé par le Saint-Esprit, la puissance divine se manifesta ; des milliers d’âmes furent amenées à la foi.
  Ni les paroles de Pierre, ni le miracle dont tous furent témoins, n'auraient pu produire de tels effets, si le Saint-Esprit n'avait pas été présent.
  Lorsque les « yeux spirituels » des pécheurs sont ouverts, ces derniers ont dès lors le cœur meurtri par leur iniquité, ils ne peuvent ressentir qu'un véritable malaise. L'apôtre exhorta ses auditeurs à se repentir de leurs péchés, et à témoigner ouvertement de leur foi en Jésus, le Messie, en se faisant baptiser en Son Nom. Professant ainsi leur obéissance envers Lui, ces âmes recevront alors la rémission de leurs péchés, et deviendront participantes des dons et grâces du Saint-Esprit.
  En se séparant des méchants, on échappe à leur emprise. Ceux qui se repentent de leurs péchés, et qui « s'abandonnent » à Jésus-Christ, doivent prouver la véracité de cette repentance en rompant tout lien avec le mal. Nous devons nous écarter des méchants, et nous efforcer, avec une sainte peur, de les éviter.
  Par la grâce de Dieu trois mille personnes acceptèrent le message de l'évangile. Il ne fait aucun doute que le don du Saint-Esprit, reçu par tous, (aucun véritable croyant ne sera oublié), était bien cet Esprit d'adoption et cette Grâce qui convertit, qui dirige, qui sanctifie, qui est donnée à tous les membres de la « famille spirituelle » de notre Père céleste. La repentance et la rémission des fautes sont toujours prêchées aux pécheurs, au Nom du Rédempteur ; le Saint-Esprit scelle Sa bénédiction dans le cœur du croyant repentant ; de nombreuses promesses spirituelles lui sont alors adressées, ainsi qu’à ses enfants ; des bénédictions sont ensuite accordées à tous ceux qui s’éloignent du mal !
  
  42 Dans ce texte, nous voyons les débuts de la véritable église primitive : elle était certes dans son état originel, mais dans la plus grande innocence. Ces premiers chrétiens respectaient scrupuleusement les saintes ordonnances, ils abondaient dans la piété et la dévotion ; lorsque nous reconnaissons la puissance d’une telle vie, « en Christ », ce Dernier dispose notre âme à la communion avec Dieu, quel que soit le chemin dans lequel Il a décidé de nous rencontrer, selon Sa promesse.
  L’importance des événements relatés dans ce texte a élevé ces âmes « au-dessus » de ce monde, le Saint-Esprit les a remplies d'un amour qui leur faisait voir leur prochain comme eux-mêmes, leur permettant ainsi de faire toutes choses en commun ; ces frères en Christ n’ont pas détruit leurs biens, mais, pour écarter tout égoïsme, ils mirent en pratique la charité. Dieu, Celui qui les a amenés à un tel état d’esprit, savait de toute façon qu'ils seraient, par la persécution, rapidement dépossédés de leurs biens en Judée...
  Le Seigneur, de jour en jour, prédispose les cœurs à accepter l'évangile ; non pas pour professer ce dernier, mais pour être d’abord vraiment amenés à être acceptés par Dieu, étant faits « participants de la Grâce qui régénère ». Ceux que Dieu a admis pour le salut éternel seront amenés à Christ, jusqu'à ce que la terre soit remplie de la connaissance de Sa gloire !
