  1 The heavens and the earth were finished, and all their vast array.
  
  2 On the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
  
  3 God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work which he had created and made.
  
  4 This is the history of the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahweh God made the earth and the heavens.
  
  5 No plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain on the earth. There was not a man to till the ground,
  
  6 but a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole surface of the ground.
  
  7 Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
  
  8 Yahweh God planted a garden eastward, in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed.
  
  9 Out of the ground Yahweh God made every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
  
  10 A river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it was parted, and became four heads.
  
  11 The name of the first is Pishon: this is the one which flows through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
  
  12 and the gold of that land is good. There is aromatic resin and the onyx stone.
  
  13 The name of the second river is Gihon: the same river that flows through the whole land of Cush.
  
  14 The name of the third river is Hiddekel: this is the one which flows in front of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
  
  15 Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
  
  16 Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;
  
  17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die."
  
  18 Yahweh God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him."
  
  19 Out of the ground Yahweh God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.
  
  20 The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper suitable for him.
  
  21 Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.
  
  22 He made the rib, which Yahweh God had taken from the man, into a woman, and brought her to the man.
  
  23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called 'woman,' because she was taken out of Man."
  
  24 Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.
  
  25 They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

  1 Now these are the children of the province, who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his city;

  55 The children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Hassophereth, the children of Peruda,

  57 the children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth Hazzebaim, the children of Ami.
  
  58 All the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety-two.
  
  59 These were those who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer; but they could not show their fathers' houses, and their seed, whether they were of Israel:
  
  60 the children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty-two.
  
  61 Of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name.
  
  62 These sought their place among those who were registered by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they deemed polluted and put from the priesthood.
  
  63 The governor said to them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, until there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.
  
  64 The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty,
  
  65 besides their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven: and they had two hundred singing men and singing women.
  
  66 Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five;
  
  67 their camels, four hundred thirty-five; their donkeys, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.
  
  68 Some of the heads of fathers' households, when they came to the house of Yahweh which is in Jerusalem, offered willingly for God's house to set it up in its place:
  
  69 they gave after their ability into the treasury of the work sixty-one thousand darics of gold, and five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred priests' garments.
  
  70 So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinim, lived in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

  1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
  
  2 "Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him."
  
  3 When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
  
  4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.
  
  5 They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,
  
  6 'You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah: for out of you shall come forth a governor, who shall shepherd my people, Israel.'"
  
  7 Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.
  
  8 He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him."
  
  9 They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.
  
  10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
  
  11 They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
  
  12 Being warned in a dream that they shouldn't return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.
  
  13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."
  
  14 He arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,
  
  15 and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called my son."
  
  16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.
  
  17 Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
  
  18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn't be comforted, because they are no more."
  
  19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
  
  20 "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead."
  
  21 He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
  
  22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,
  
  23 and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."

  11 שֵׁ֥ם הָֽאֶחָ֖ד פִּישׁ֑וֹן ה֣וּא הַסֹּבֵ֗ב אֵ֚ת כָּל־אֶ֣רֶץ הַֽחֲוִילָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֖ם הַזָּהָֽב׃
  
  12 וּֽזֲהַ֛ב הָאָ֥רֶץ הַהִ֖וא ט֑וֹב שָׁ֥ם הַבְּדֹ֖לַח וְאֶ֥בֶן הַשֹּֽׁהַם׃
  
  13 וְשֵֽׁם־הַנָּהָ֥ר הַשֵּׁנִ֖י גִּיח֑וֹן ה֣וּא הַסּוֹבֵ֔ב אֵ֖ת כָּל־אֶ֥רֶץ כּֽוּשׁ׃
  
  14 וְשֵׁ֨ם הַנָּהָ֤ר הַשְּׁלִישִׁי֙ חִדֶּ֔קֶל ה֥וּא הַֽהֹלֵ֖ךְ קִדְמַ֣ת אַשּׁ֑וּר וְהַנָּהָ֥ר הָֽרְבִיעִ֖י ה֥וּא פְרָֽת׃
  
  15 וַיִּקַּ֛ח יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֑ם וַיַּנִּחֵ֣הוּ בְגַן־עֵ֔דֶן לְעָבְדָ֖הּ וּלְשָׁמְרָֽהּ׃
  
  16 וַיְצַו֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֔ים עַל־הָֽאָדָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר מִכֹּ֥ל עֵֽץ־הַגָּ֖ן אָכֹ֥ל תֹּאכֵֽל׃
  
  17 וּמֵעֵ֗ץ הַדַּ֙עַת֙ ט֣וֹב וָרָ֔ע לֹ֥א תֹאכַ֖ל מִמֶּ֑נּוּ כִּ֗י בְּי֛וֹם אֲכָלְךָ֥ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ מ֥וֹת תָּמֽוּת׃
  
  18 וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֔ים לֹא־ט֛וֹב הֱי֥וֹת הָֽאָדָ֖ם לְבַדּ֑וֹ אֶֽעֱשֶׂהּ־לּ֥וֹ עֵ֖זֶר כְּנֶגְדּֽוֹ׃
  
  19 וַיִּצֶר֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהִ֜ים מִן־הָֽאֲדָמָ֗ה כָּל־חַיַּ֤ת הַשָּׂדֶה֙ וְאֵת֙ כָּל־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַיָּבֵא֙ אֶל־הָ֣אָדָ֔ם לִרְא֖וֹת מַה־יִּקְרָא־ל֑וֹ וְכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִקְרָא־ל֧וֹ הָֽאָדָ֛ם נֶ֥פֶשׁ חַיָּ֖ה ה֥וּא שְׁמֽוֹ׃
  
  20 וַיִּקְרָ֨א הָֽאָדָ֜ם שֵׁמ֗וֹת לְכָל־הַבְּהֵמָה֙ וּלְע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וּלְכֹ֖ל חַיַּ֣ת הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וּלְאָדָ֕ם לֹֽא־מָצָ֥א עֵ֖זֶר כְּנֶגְדּֽוֹ׃
  
  21 וַיַּפֵּל֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהִ֧ים ׀ תַּרְדֵּמָ֛ה עַל־הָאָדָ֖ם וַיִּישָׁ֑ן וַיִּקַּ֗ח אַחַת֙ מִצַּלְעֹתָ֔יו וַיִּסְגֹּ֥ר בָּשָׂ֖ר תַּחְתֶּֽנָּה׃
  
  22 וַיִּבֶן֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהִ֧ים ׀ אֶֽת־הַצֵּלָ֛ע אֲשֶׁר־לָקַ֥ח מִן־הָֽאָדָ֖ם לְאִשָּׁ֑ה וַיְבִאֶ֖הָ אֶל־הָֽאָדָֽם׃
  
  23 וַיֹּאמֶר֮ הָֽאָדָם֒ זֹ֣את הַפַּ֗עַם עֶ֚צֶם מֵֽעֲצָמַ֔י וּבָשָׂ֖ר מִבְּשָׂרִ֑י לְזֹאת֙ יִקָּרֵ֣א אִשָּׁ֔ה כִּ֥י מֵאִ֖ישׁ לֻֽקֳחָה־זֹּֽאת׃

  14 בְּנֵ֣י בִגְוָ֔י אַלְפַּ֖יִם חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וְשִׁשָּֽׁה׃

  1 Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ γεννηθέντος ἐν Βηθλέεμ τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἐν ἡμέραις Ἡρῴδου τοῦ βασιλέως, ἰδοὺ μάγοι ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν παρεγένοντο εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα
  
  2 λέγοντες· Ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ τεχθεὶς βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων; εἴδομεν γὰρ αὐτοῦ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ καὶ ἤλθομεν προσκυνῆσαι αὐτῷ.
  
  3 ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἡρῴδης ἐταράχθη καὶ πᾶσα Ἱεροσόλυμα μετ’ αὐτοῦ,
  
  4 καὶ συναγαγὼν πάντας τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ γραμματεῖς τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπυνθάνετο παρ’ αὐτῶν ποῦ ὁ χριστὸς γεννᾶται.
  
  5 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ἐν Βηθλέεμ τῆς Ἰουδαίας· οὕτως γὰρ γέγραπται διὰ τοῦ προφήτου·
  
  6 Καὶ σύ, Βηθλέεμ γῆ Ἰούδα, οὐδαμῶς ἐλαχίστη εἶ ἐν τοῖς ἡγεμόσιν Ἰούδα· ἐκ σοῦ γὰρ ἐξελεύσεται ἡγούμενος, ὅστις ποιμανεῖ τὸν λαόν μου τὸν Ἰσραήλ.
  
  7 Τότε Ἡρῴδης λάθρᾳ καλέσας τοὺς μάγους ἠκρίβωσεν παρ’ αὐτῶν τὸν χρόνον τοῦ φαινομένου ἀστέρος,
  
  8 καὶ πέμψας αὐτοὺς εἰς Βηθλέεμ εἶπεν· Πορευθέντες ἐξετάσατε ἀκριβῶς περὶ τοῦ παιδίου· ἐπὰν δὲ εὕρητε, ἀπαγγείλατέ μοι, ὅπως κἀγὼ ἐλθὼν προσκυνήσω αὐτῷ.
  
  9 οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπορεύθησαν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ ἀστὴρ ὃν εἶδον ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ προῆγεν αὐτούς, ἕως ἐλθὼν ἐστάθη ἐπάνω οὗ ἦν τὸ παιδίον.
  
  10 ἰδόντες δὲ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐχάρησαν χαρὰν μεγάλην σφόδρα.
  
  11 καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν εἶδον τὸ παιδίον μετὰ Μαρίας τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ πεσόντες προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἀνοίξαντες τοὺς θησαυροὺς αὐτῶν προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δῶρα, χρυσὸν καὶ λίβανον καὶ σμύρναν.
  
  12 καὶ χρηματισθέντες κατ’ ὄναρ μὴ ἀνακάμψαι πρὸς Ἡρῴδην δι’ ἄλλης ὁδοῦ ἀνεχώρησαν εἰς τὴν χώραν αὐτῶν.
  
  13 Ἀναχωρησάντων δὲ αὐτῶν ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος κυρίου φαίνεται κατ’ ὄναρ τῷ Ἰωσὴφ λέγων· Ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ φεῦγε εἰς Αἴγυπτον, καὶ ἴσθι ἐκεῖ ἕως ἂν εἴπω σοι· μέλλει γὰρ Ἡρῴδης ζητεῖν τὸ παιδίον τοῦ ἀπολέσαι αὐτό.
  
  14 ὁ δὲ ἐγερθεὶς παρέλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ νυκτὸς καὶ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς Αἴγυπτον,
  
  15 καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἕως τῆς τελευτῆς Ἡρῴδου· ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑπὸ κυρίου διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· Ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἐκάλεσα τὸν υἱόν μου.
  
  16 Τότε Ἡρῴδης ἰδὼν ὅτι ἐνεπαίχθη ὑπὸ τῶν μάγων ἐθυμώθη λίαν, καὶ ἀποστείλας ἀνεῖλεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας τοὺς ἐν Βηθλέεμ καὶ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῆς ἀπὸ διετοῦς καὶ κατωτέρω, κατὰ τὸν χρόνον ὃν ἠκρίβωσεν παρὰ τῶν μάγων.
  
  17 τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·
  
  18 Φωνὴ ἐν Ῥαμὰ ἠκούσθη, κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὀδυρμὸς πολύς· Ῥαχὴλ κλαίουσα τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν παρακληθῆναι ὅτι οὐκ εἰσίν.
  
  19 Τελευτήσαντος δὲ τοῦ Ἡρῴδου ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος κυρίου φαίνεται κατ’ ὄναρ τῷ Ἰωσὴφ ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ
  
  20 λέγων· Ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ πορεύου εἰς γῆν Ἰσραήλ, τεθνήκασιν γὰρ οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ παιδίου.
  
  21 ὁ δὲ ἐγερθεὶς παρέλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς γῆν Ἰσραήλ.
  
  22 ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι Ἀρχέλαος βασιλεύει τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἀντὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ Ἡρῴδου ἐφοβήθη ἐκεῖ ἀπελθεῖν· χρηματισθεὶς δὲ κατ’ ὄναρ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὰ μέρη τῆς Γαλιλαίας,
  
  23 καὶ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς πόλιν λεγομένην Ναζαρέτ, ὅπως πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ τῶν προφητῶν ὅτι Ναζωραῖος κληθήσεται.

  1 Et les cieux et la terre furent achevés, et toute leur armée.
  
  2 Et Dieu eut achevé au septième jour son oeuvre qu'il fit ; et il se reposa au septième jour de toute son oeuvre qu'il fit.
  
  3 Et Dieu bénit le septième jour, et le sanctifia ; car en ce jour il se reposa de toute son oeuvre que Dieu créa en la faisant.
  
  4 Ce sont ici les générations des cieux et de la terre lorsqu'ils furent créés, au jour que l'Éternel Dieu fit la terre et les cieux,
  
  5 et tout arbuste des champs avant qu'il fût sur la terre, et toute herbe des champs avant qu'elle crût ; car l'Éternel Dieu n'avait pas fait pleuvoir sur la terre, et il n'y avait pas d'homme pour travailler le sol ;
  
  6 une vapeur montait de la terre et arrosait toute la surface du sol.
  
  7 Et l'Éternel Dieu forma l'homme, poussière du sol, et souffla dans ses narines une respiration de vie, et l'homme devint une âme vivante.
  
  8 Et l'Éternel Dieu planta un jardin en Éden, du côté de l'orient, et il y plaça l'homme qu'il avait formé.
  
  9 Et l'Éternel Dieu fit croître du sol tout arbre agréable à voir et bon à manger, et l'arbre de vie au milieu du jardin, et l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal.
  
  10 Et un fleuve sortait d'Éden pour arroser le jardin, et de là il se divisait et devenait quatre rivières.
  
  11 Le nom de la première est Pishon : c'est elle qui entoure tout le pays de Havila, où il y a de l'or.
  
  12 Et l'or de ce pays-là est bon ; là est le bdellium et la pierre d'onyx.
  
  13 Et le nom de la seconde rivière est Guihon : c'est elle qui entoure tout le pays de Cush.
  
  14 Et le nom de la troisième rivière est Hiddékel : c'est elle qui coule en avant vers Assur. Et la quatrième rivière, c'est l'Euphrate.
  
  15 Et l'Éternel Dieu prit l'homme et le plaça dans le jardin d'Éden pour le cultiver et pour le garder.
  
  16 Et l'Éternel Dieu commanda à l'homme, disant : Tu mangeras librement de tout arbre du jardin ;
  
  17 mais de l'arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal, tu n'en mangeras pas ; car, au jour que tu en mangeras, tu mourras certainement.
  
  18 Et l'Éternel Dieu dit : Il n'est pas bon que l'homme soit seul ; je lui ferai une aide qui lui corresponde.
  
  19 Et l'Éternel Dieu forma de la terre tous les animaux des champs et tous les oiseaux des cieux, et les fit venir vers l'homme pour voir comment il les nommerait ; et tout nom que l'homme donnait à un être vivant fut son nom.
  
  20 Et l'homme donna des noms à tout le bétail, et aux oiseaux des cieux, et à toutes les bêtes des champs. Mais pour Adam, il ne trouva pas d'aide qui lui correspondît.
  
  21 Et l'Éternel Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur l'homme, et il dormit ; et il prit une de ses côtes, et il en ferma la place avec de la chair.
  
  22 Et l'Éternel Dieu forma une femme de la côte qu'il avait prise de l'homme, et l'amena vers l'homme.
  
  23 Et l'homme dit : Cette fois, celle-ci est os de mes os et chair de ma chair ; celle-ci sera appelée femme (Isha), parce qu'elle a été prise de l'homme (Ish).
  
  24 C'est pourquoi l'homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s'attachera à sa femme, et ils seront une seule chair.

  55 Fils des serviteurs de Salomon : les fils de Sotaï, les fils de Sophéreth,
  
  56 les fils de Peruda, les fils de Jaala, les fils de Darkon, les fils de Guiddel,
  
  57 les fils de Shephatia, les fils de Hattil, les fils de Pokéreth-Hatsebaïm, les fils d'Ami.
  
  58 Tous les Nethiniens et les fils des serviteurs de Salomon, trois cent quatre-vingt-douze.
  
  59 Et voici ceux qui montèrent de Thel-Mélakh, de Thel-Harsha, de Kerub-Addan, d'Immer ; mais ils ne purent pas montrer leurs maisons de pères et leur descendance, s'ils étaient d'Israël :
  
  60 les fils de Delaïa, les fils de Tobija, les fils de Nekoda, six cent cinquante-deux ; et des fils des sacrificateurs,
  
  61 les fils de Hobaïa, les fils d'Hakkots, les fils de Barzillaï, qui prit une femme d'entre les filles de Barzillaï, le Galaadite, et fut appelé de leur nom.
  
  62 Ceux-ci cherchèrent leur inscription généalogique, mais elle ne se trouva pas ; et ils furent exclus, comme profanes, de la sacrificature.
  
  63 Et le Thirshatha leur dit qu'ils ne devaient point manger des choses très-saintes, jusqu'à ce que fût suscité un sacrificateur avec les urim et les thummim.
  
  64 Toute la congrégation réunie était de quarante-deux mille trois cent soixante personnes,
  
  65 sans compter leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes ; ceux-ci étaient au nombre de sept mille trois cent trente-sept ; et parmi eux, il y avait deux cents chanteurs et chanteuses.
  
  66 Ils avaient sept cent trente-six chevaux, deux cent quarante-cinq mulets,
  
  67 quatre cent trente-cinq chameaux, et six mille sept cent vingt ânes.
  
  68 Et des chefs des pères, quand ils arrivèrent à la maison de l'Éternel qui est à Jérusalem, donnèrent volontairement pour la maison de Dieu, pour la relever sur son emplacement ;
  
  69 ils donnèrent au trésor de l'oeuvre, selon leur pouvoir, soixante et un mille dariques d'or, et cinq mille mines d'argent, et cent tuniques de sacrificateurs.
  
  70 Et les sacrificateurs, et les lévites, et ceux du peuple, et les chantres, et les portiers, et les Nethiniens, habitèrent dans leurs villes : tout Israël se trouva dans ses villes.
  
  Matthieu 2
  
  1 Or, après que Jésus fut né à Bethléhem de Judée, aux jours du roi Hérode, voici, des mages de l'orient arrivèrent à Jérusalem, disant :
  
  2 Où est le roi des Juifs qui a été mis au monde ? Car nous avons vu son étoile dans l'orient, et nous sommes venus lui rendre hommage.
  
  3 Mais le roi Hérode, l'ayant ouï dire, en fut troublé, et tout Jérusalem avec lui ;
  
  4 et ayant assemblé tous les principaux sacrificateurs et scribes du peuple, il s'enquit d'eux où le Christ devait naître.
  
  5 Et ils lui dirent : A Bethléhem de Judée ; car il est ainsi écrit par le prophète :
  
  6 "Et toi, Bethléhem, terre de Juda, tu n'es nullement la plus petite parmi les gouverneurs de Juda, car de toi sortira un conducteur qui paîtra mon peuple Israël".
  
  7 Alors Hérode, ayant appelé secrètement les mages, s'informa exactement auprès d'eux du temps de l'étoile qui apparaissait ;
  
  8 et les ayant envoyés à Bethléhem, il dit : Allez et enquérez-vous exactement touchant le petit enfant ; et quand vous l'aurez trouvé, faites-le-moi savoir, en sorte que moi aussi j'aille lui rendre hommage.
  
  9 Et eux, ayant ouï le roi, s'en allèrent ; et voici, l'étoile qu'ils avaient vue dans l'orient allait devant eux, jusqu'à ce qu'elle vint et se tint au-dessus du lieu où était le petit enfant.
  
  10 Et quand ils virent l'étoile, ils se réjouirent d'une fort grande joie.
  
  11 Et étant entrés dans la maison, ils virent le petit enfant avec Marie sa mère ; et, se prosternant, ils lui rendirent hommage ; et ayant ouvert leurs trésors, ils lui offrirent des dons, de l'or, et de l'encens, et de la myrrhe.
  
  12 Et étant avertis divinement, en songe, de ne pas retourner vers Hérode, ils se retirèrent dans leur pays par un autre chemin.
  
  13 Or, après qu'ils se furent retirés, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph, disant : Lève-toi, prends le petit enfant et sa mère, et fuis en Égypte, et demeure là jusqu'à ce que je te le dise ; car Hérode cherchera le petit enfant pour le faire périr.
  
  14 Et lui, s'étant levé, prit de nuit le petit enfant et sa mère, et se retira en Égypte.
  
  15 Et il fut là jusqu'à la mort d'Hérode, afin que fût accompli ce que le Seigneur avait dit par le prophète, disant : "j'ai appelé mon fils hors d'Égypte".
  
  16 Hérode, voyant que les mages s'étaient joués de lui, fut fort en colère ; et il envoya, et fit tuer tous les enfants qui étaient dans Bethléhem et dans tout son territoire, depuis l'âge de deux ans et au-dessous, selon le temps dont il s'était enquis exactement auprès des mages.
  
  17 Alors fut accompli ce qui a été dit par Jérémie le prophète, disant :
  
  18 "Une voix a été ouïe à Rama, des lamentations, et des pleurs, et de grands gémissements, Rachel pleurant ses enfants ; et elle n'a pas voulu être consolée, parce qu'ils ne sont pas".
  
  19 Or, Hérode étant mort, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparaît en songe à Joseph en Égypte,
  
  20 disant : Lève-toi et prends le petit enfant et sa mère, et va dans la terre d'Israël ; car ceux qui cherchaient la vie du petit enfant sont morts.
  
  21 Et lui, s'étant levé, prit le petit enfant et sa mère, et s'en vint dans la terre d'Israël ;
  
  22 mais, ayant ouï dire qu'Archélaüs régnait en Judée à la place d'Hérode son père, il craignit d'y aller ; et ayant été averti divinement, en songe, il se retira dans les quartiers de la Galilée, et alla et habita dans une
  
  23 ville appelée Nazareth ; en sorte que fût accompli ce qui avait été dit par les prophètes : Il sera appelé Nazaréen.
