- 1 Rois 20
  
  1 Et Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, rassembla toutes ses forces ; et il y avait trente-deux rois avec lui, et des chevaux et des chars. Et il monta et assiégea Samarie, et lui fit la guerre.
  
  2 Et il envoya des messagers à Achab, roi d'Israël, dans la ville ; et il lui dit :
  
  3 Ainsi dit Ben-Hadad : Ton argent et ton or sont à moi, et tes femmes, et tes fils, les plus beaux, sont à moi.
  
  4 Et le roi d'Israël répondit et dit : Selon ta parole, ô roi, mon seigneur, je suis à toi, moi et tout ce que j'ai.
  
  5 Et les messagers revinrent et dirent : Ainsi a parlé Ben-Hadad, disant : Je t'ai envoyé dire en effet : Tu me donneras ton argent et ton or, et tes femmes, et tes fils ;
  
  6 mais demain à cette heure, j'enverrai mes serviteurs vers toi, et ils fouilleront ta maison et les maisons de tes serviteurs, et ils mettront dans leurs mains tout ce qui est désirable à tes yeux, et l'emporteront.
  
  7 Et le roi d'Israël appela tous les anciens du pays, et dit : Sachez, je vous prie, et voyez comment cet homme cherche du mal ; car il a envoyé vers moi pour mes femmes, et pour mes fils, et pour mon argent, et pour mon or, et je ne lui ai rien refusé.
  
  8 Et tous les anciens et tout le peuple lui dirent : Ne l'écoute pas, et ne consens pas.
  
  9 Et il dit aux messagers de Ben-Hadad : Dites au roi, mon seigneur : Tout ce que tu as mandé à ton serviteur la première fois, je le ferai ; mais cette chose-ci, je ne puis la faire. Et les messagers s'en allèrent et lui rapportèrent cela.
  
  10 Et Ben-Hadad envoya vers lui, et dit : Ainsi me fassent les dieux et ainsi ils y ajoutent, si la poussière de Samarie suffit pour remplir le creux des mains de tout le peuple qui me suit !
  
  11 Et le roi d'Israël répondit et dit : Dites-lui : Que celui qui se ceint ne se vante pas comme celui qui délie sa ceinture.
  
  12 Et il arriva que lorsque Ben-Hadad entendit cette parole (il était à boire, lui et les rois, dans les tentes), il dit à ses serviteurs : Placez-vous. Et ils se rangèrent contre la ville.
  
  13 Et voici, un prophète s'approcha d'Achab, roi d'Israël, et dit : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Vois-tu toute cette grande multitude ? Voici, je l'ai livrée aujourd'hui en ta main, et tu sauras que moi, je suis l'Éternel.
  
  14 Et Achab dit : Par qui ? Et il dit : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Par les serviteurs des chefs des provinces. Et il dit : Qui engagera le combat ?
  
  15 Et il dit : Toi. Et il dénombra les serviteurs des chefs des provinces ; et ils étaient deux cent trente-trois ; et après eux, il dénombra tout le peuple, tous les fils d'Israël, sept mille hommes.
  
  16 Et ils sortirent à midi ; et Ben-Hadad buvait, s'enivrant dans les tentes, lui et les rois, trente-deux rois qui l'aidaient.
  
  17 Et les serviteurs des chefs des provinces sortirent les premiers. Et Ben-Hadad envoya, et on lui rapporta, disant : Des hommes sont sortis de Samarie.
  
  18 Et il dit : S'ils sont sortis pour la paix, saisissez-les vivants ; et s'ils sont sortis pour la guerre, saisissez-les vivants.
  
  19 Et ces serviteurs des chefs des provinces sortirent de la ville, ainsi que l'armée qui les suivait.
  
  20 Et ils frappèrent chacun son homme, et les Syriens s'enfuirent ; et Israël les poursuivit ; et Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, échappa sur un cheval, avec des cavaliers.
  
  21 Et le roi d'Israël sortit et frappa les chevaux et les chars, et il infligea aux Syriens une grande défaite.
  
  22 Et le prophète s'approcha du roi d'Israël, et lui dit : Va, fortifie-toi, et sache et vois ce que tu dois faire ; car au retour de l'année le roi de Syrie montera contre toi.
  
  23 Et les serviteurs du roi de Syrie lui dirent : Leurs dieux sont des dieux de montagnes ; c'est pourquoi ils ont été plus forts que nous ; mais si nous les combattons dans la plaine, certainement nous serons plus forts qu'eux.
  
  24 Et fais ceci : ôte les rois chacun de sa place, et mets en leur lieu des capitaines ;
  
  25 et toi, dénombre-toi une armée comme l'armée que tu as perdue, et cheval pour cheval, et char pour char, et nous nous battrons avec eux dans la plaine : certainement nous serons plus forts qu'eux. Et il écouta leur voix, et fit ainsi.
  
  26 Et il arriva, qu'au retour de l'année, Ben-Hadad dénombra les Syriens, et monta à Aphek pour faire la guerre contre Israël.
  
  27 Et les fils d'Israël furent dénombrés et approvisionnés ; et les fils d'Israël allèrent à leur rencontre, et ils campèrent vis-à-vis d'eux, comme deux petits troupeaux de chèvres, et les Syriens remplissaient le pays.
  
  28 Et l'homme de Dieu s'approcha, et parla au roi d'Israël et dit : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Parce que les Syriens ont dit : L'Éternel est un dieu de montagnes, et pas un dieu de plaines, je livrerai toute cette grande multitude en ta main ; et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel.
  
  29 Et ils campèrent, ceux-ci vis-à-vis de ceux-là, sept jours ; et il arriva, le septième jour, que le combat se livra. Et les fils d'Israël frappèrent les Syriens, cent mille hommes de pied, en un seul jour.
  
  30 Et le reste s'enfuit à Aphek, dans la ville, et la muraille tomba sur vingt-sept mille hommes de ceux qui restaient. Et Ben-Hadad s'enfuit et entra dans la ville, d'une chambre dans l'autre.
  
  31 Et ses serviteurs lui dirent : Voici, nous avons entendu dire que les rois de la maison d'Israël sont des rois doux et cléments ; mettons, je te prie, des sacs sur nos reins et des cordes à nos têtes, et sortons vers le roi d'Israël : peut-être qu'il laissera vivre ton âme.
  
  32 Et ils ceignirent de sacs leurs reins et mirent des cordes à leurs têtes, et s'en vinrent vers le roi d'Israël. Et ils dirent : Ton serviteur Ben-Hadad dit : Je te prie, laisse vivre mon âme. Et il dit : Vit-il encore ? Il est mon frère.
  
  33 Et les hommes en augurèrent du bien, et se hâtèrent de saisir ce qui venait de lui ; et ils dirent : Ton frère Ben-Hadad... Et il dit : Allez, amenez-le. Et Ben-Hadad sortit vers lui, et il le fit monter sur son char.
  
  34 Et Ben-Hadad lui dit : Les villes que mon père a prises à ton père, je les rends, et tu feras pour toi des rues à Damas, comme mon père en a fait à Samarie. Et moi, dit Achab, je te renverrai avec cette alliance. Et il fit alliance avec lui, et le renvoya.
  
  35 Et un homme d'entre les fils des prophètes dit à son compagnon, par la parole de l'Éternel : Frappe-moi, je te prie. Et l'homme refusa de le frapper.
  
  36 Et il lui dit : Parce que tu n'as pas écouté la voix de l'Éternel, voici, quand tu sortiras d'auprès de moi, le lion te tuera. Et il sortit d'auprès de lui, et le lion le trouva, et le tua.
  
  37 Et il trouva un autre homme, et il dit : Frappe-moi, je te prie. Et l'homme le frappa fort, et le blessa.
  
  38 Et le prophète s'en alla, et se tint sur le chemin du roi, et se déguisa avec un bandeau sur les yeux.
  
  39 Et, comme le roi passait, il cria au roi, et dit : Ton serviteur était sorti au milieu de la bataille, et voici, un homme se détourna, et m'amena un homme, et dit : Garde cet homme ; s'il vient à manquer, ta vie sera à la place de sa vie, ou tu me pèseras un talent d'argent.
  
  40 Et, comme ton serviteur était occupé çà et là, l'homme a disparu. Et le roi d'Israël lui dit : Ainsi est ton jugement : tu en as décidé.
  
  41 Et il ôta avec hâte le bandeau de dessus ses yeux, et le roi d'Israël le reconnut pour l'un des prophètes.
  
  42 Et il lui dit : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Parce que tu as laissé aller d'entre tes mains l'homme que j'avais voué à la destruction, ta vie sera pour sa vie, et ton peuple pour son peuple.
  
  43 Et le roi d'Israël alla en sa maison, triste et irrité, et il vint à Samarie.
  
  Daniel 2
  
  1 Et en la seconde année du règne de Nebucadnetsar, Nebucadnetsar songea des songes, et son esprit fut agité, et son sommeil le quitta.
  
  2 Et le roi commanda d'appeler les devins, et les enchanteurs, et les magiciens, et les Chaldéens, pour exposer au roi ses songes ; et ils vinrent et se tinrent devant le roi.
  
  3 Et le roi leur dit : J'ai songé un songe, et mon esprit est agité pour connaître le songe.
  
  4 Et les Chaldéens dirent au roi, en syriaque : O roi, vis à jamais ! Dis le songe à tes serviteurs, et nous en indiquerons l'interprétation.
  
  5 Le roi répondit et dit aux Chaldéens : La chose est par moi prononcée : si vous ne me faites pas connaître le songe et son interprétation, vous serez mis en pièces, et vos maisons seront réduites en tas d'immondices ;
  
  6 mais, si vous indiquez le songe et son interprétation, vous recevrez de ma part des dons, et des présents, et de grands honneurs. Indiquez-moi donc le songe et son interprétation.
  
  7 Ils répondirent pour la seconde fois et dirent : Que le roi dise le songe à ses serviteurs, et nous en indiquerons l'interprétation.
  
  8 Le roi répondit et dit : Je sais très-certainement que vous voulez gagnez du temps, parce que vous voyez que la chose est par moi prononcée ;
  
  9 or, si vous ne me faites pas connaître le songe, il y a un seul et même décret pour vous ; car vous avez préparé une parole mensongère et perverse pour la dire devant moi, en attendant que le temps ait changé. C'est pourquoi, dites-moi le songe, et je saurai que vous pouvez m'en indiquer l'interprétation.
  
  10 Les Chaldéens répondirent devant le roi et dirent : Il n'existe pas un homme sur la terre qui puisse indiquer la chose que le roi demande ; c'est pourquoi aucun roi, quelque grand et puissant qu'il fût, n'a demandé chose pareille d'aucun devin, ou enchanteur, ou Chaldéen ;
  
  11 et la chose que le roi demande est difficile, et il n'existe personne qui puisse l'indiquer devant le roi, excepté les dieux, dont la demeure n'est pas avec la chair.
  
  12 A cause de cela, le roi s'irrita et se mit dans une très-grande colère, et commanda de détruire tous les sages de Babylone.
  
  13 Et un décret fut promulgué portant que les sages fussent tués ; et on chercha Daniel et ses compagnons, pour les tuer.
  
  14 Alors Daniel répondit avec prudence et avec sens à Arioc, chef des gardes du roi, qui était sorti pour tuer les sages de Babylone ;
  
  15 il répondit et dit à Arioc, le grand officier du roi : Pourquoi ce décret est-il si rigoureux de par le roi ? Alors Arioc fit connaître la chose à Daniel.
  
  16 Et Daniel entra et demanda au roi de lui accorder du temps pour indiquer au roi l'interprétation.
  
  17 Alors Daniel s'en alla à sa maison et fit connaître la chose à Hanania, Mishaël et Azaria, ses compagnons,
  
  18 pour implorer, de la part du Dieu des cieux, ses compassions au sujet de ce secret, afin que Daniel et ses compagnons ne fussent pas détruits avec le reste des sages de Babylone.
  
  19 Alors le secret fut révélé à Daniel dans une vision de la nuit. Alors Daniel bénit le Dieu des cieux.
  
  20 Daniel répondit et dit : Béni soit le nom de Dieu, d'éternité en éternité ! car la sagesse et la puissance sont à lui,
  
  21 et c'est lui qui change les temps et les saisons, qui dépose les rois et établit les rois, qui donne la sagesse aux sages et la connaissance à ceux qui connaissent l'intelligence :
  
  22 c'est lui qui révèle les choses profondes et secrètes ; il sait ce qui est dans les ténèbres, et la lumière demeure auprès de lui.
  
  23 Toi, Dieu de mes pères, je te célèbre et je te loue, parce que tu m'as donné sagesse et puissance, et que maintenant tu m'as fait connaître ce que nous t'avons demandé, nous ayant fait connaître la chose que réclame le roi.
  
  24 C'est pourquoi Daniel entra auprès d'Arioc, que le roi avait établi pour détruire les sages de Babylone ; il alla, et lui parla ainsi : Ne détruis pas les sages de Babylone ; conduis-moi devant le roi, et j'indiquerai au roi l'interprétation.
  
  25 Alors Arioc fit entrer Daniel en hâte devant le roi, et lui parla ainsi : J'ai trouvé un homme, des fils de la captivité de Juda, qui fera connaître au roi l'interprétation.
  
  26 Le roi répondit et dit à Daniel, dont le nom était Belteshatsar : Peux-tu me faire connaître le songe que j'ai vu et son interprétation ?
  
  27 Daniel répondit devant le roi, et dit : Le secret que le roi demande, les sages, les enchanteurs, les devins, les augures, n'ont pu l'indiquer au roi ;
  
  28 mais il y a un Dieu dans les cieux qui révèle les secrets et fait savoir au roi Nebucadnetsar ce qui arrivera à la fin des jours. Ton songe et les visions de ta tête, sur ton lit, les voici :
  
  29 Toi, ô roi,... tes pensées, sur ton lit, sont montées dans ton esprit, ce qui doit arriver ci-après ; et celui qui révèle les secrets te fait savoir ce qui va arriver.
  
  30 Et quant à moi, ce n'est pas par quelque sagesse qui soit en moi plus qu'en tous les vivants, que ce secret m'a été révélé : c'est afin que l'interprétation soit connue du roi, et que tu connaisses les pensées de ton coeur.
  
  31 Toi, au roi, tu voyais, et voici une grande statue ; cette statue était grande, et sa splendeur, extraordinaire ; elle se tint devant toi, et son aspect était terrible.
  
  32 La tête de cette statue était d'or pur ; sa poitrine et ses bras, d'argent ; son ventre et ses cuisses, d'airain ; ses jambes, de fer ;
  
  33 ses pieds, en partie de fer et en partie d'argile.
  
  34 Tu vis, jusqu'à ce qu'une pierre se détacha sans mains ; et elle frappa la statue dans ses pieds de fer et d'argile, et les broya ;
  
  35 alors furent broyés ensemble le fer, l'argile, l'airain, l'argent et l'or, et ils devinrent comme la balle de l'aire d'été ; et le vent les emporta, et il ne se trouva aucun lieu pour eux ; et la pierre qui avait frappé la statue devint une grande montagne qui remplit toute la terre.
  
  36 C'est là le songe, et nous en dirons l'interprétation devant le roi.
  
  37 Toi, ô roi, tu es le roi des rois, auquel le Dieu des cieux a donné le royaume, la puissance, et la force, et la gloire ;
  
  38 et partout où habitent les fils des hommes, les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux des cieux, il les a mis entre tes mains et t'a fait dominer sur eux tous. Toi, tu es cette tête d'or.
  
  39 Et après toi s'élèvera un autre royaume, inférieur à toi ; puis un troisième et autre royaume, d'airain, qui dominera sur toute la terre.
  
  40 Et le quatrième royaume sera fort comme le fer. De même que le fer broie et écrase tout, et que le fer brise toutes ces choses, il broiera et brisera.
  
  41 Et selon que tu as vu les pieds et les orteils en partie d'argile de potier et en partie de fer, le royaume sera divisé ; et il y aura en lui de la dureté du fer, selon que tu as vu le fer mêlé avec de l'argile grasse ;
  
  42 et quant à ce que les orteils des pieds étaient en partie de fer et en partie d'argile, le royaume sera en partie fort et sera en partie fragile.
  
  43 Et selon que tu as vu le fer mêlé avec de l'argile grasse, ils se mêleront à la semence des hommes, mais ils n'adhéreront pas l'un à l'autre, de même que le fer ne se mêle pas avec l'argile.
  
  44 Et dans les jours de ces rois, le Dieu des cieux établira un royaume qui ne sera jamais détruit ; et ce royaume ne passera point à un autre peuple ; il broiera et détruira tous ces royaumes, mais lui, il subsistera à toujours.
  
  45 Selon que tu as vu que, de la montagne, la pierre s'est détachée sans mains, et qu'elle a broyé le fer, l'airain, l'argile, l'argent et l'or, le grand Dieu fait connaître au roi ce qui arrivera ci-après. Et le songe est certain, et son interprétation est sûre.
  
  46 Alors le roi Nebucadnetsar tomba sur sa face et se prosterna devant Daniel, et commanda de lui présenter une offrande et des parfums.
  
  47 Le roi répondit et dit à Daniel : En vérité, votre Dieu est le Dieu des dieux et le Seigneur des rois, et le révélateur des secrets, puisque tu as pu révéler ce secret.
  
  48 Alors le roi éleva Daniel en dignité, et lui fit beaucoup de grands dons, et l'établit gouverneur sur toute la province de Babylone, et grand intendant de tous les sages de Babylone.
  
  49 Et Daniel fit une demande au roi, qui établit Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego sur les services de la province de Babylone. Et Daniel se tenait à la porte du roi.
  
  1 Thessaloniciens 3
  
  1 C'est pourquoi, n'y tenant plus, nous avons trouvé bon d'être laissés seuls à Athènes,
  
  2 et nous avons envoyé Timothée, notre frère et compagnon d'oeuvre sous Dieu dans l'évangile du Christ, pour vous affermir et vous encourager touchant votre foi,
  
  3 afin que nul ne soit ébranlé dans ces tribulations ; car vous savez vous-mêmes que nous sommes destinés à cela.
  
  4 Car aussi, quand nous étions auprès de vous, nous vous avons dit d'avance que nous aurions à subir des tribulations, comme cela est aussi arrivé, et comme vous le savez.
  
  5 C'est pourquoi moi aussi, n'y tenant plus, j'ai envoyé afin de connaître ce qui en était de votre foi, de peur que le tentateur ne vous eût tentés, et que notre travail ne fût rendu vain.
  
  6 Mais Timothée venant d'arriver de chez vous auprès de nous, et nous ayant apporté les bonnes nouvelles de votre foi et de votre amour, et nous ayant dit que vous gardez toujours un bon souvenir de nous, désirant ardemment de nous voir, comme nous aussi nous désirons vous voir ; -
  
  7 c'et pourquoi, frères, nous avons été consolés à votre sujet par votre foi, dans toute notre nécessité et dans notre tribulation ;
  
  8 car maintenant nous vivons, si vous tenez fermes dans le Seigneur.
  
  9 Car comment pourrions-nous rendre à Dieu assez d'actions de grâces pour vous, pour toute la joie avec laquelle nous nous réjouissons à cause de vous devant notre Dieu,
  
  10 priant nuit et jour très-instamment, pour que nous voyions votre visage et que nous suppléions à ce qui manque à votre foi !
  
  11 Or que notre Dieu et Père lui-même, et notre Seigneur Jésus, nous fraye le chemin auprès de vous ;
  
  12 et quant à vous, que le Seigneur vous fasse abonder et surabonder en amour les uns envers les autres et envers tous, comme nous aussi envers vous,
  
  13 pour affermir vos coeurs sans reproche en sainteté devant notre Dieu et Père en la venue de notre Seigneur Jésus avec tous ses saints.

  1 Ben Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
  
  2 He sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, "Thus says Ben Hadad,
  
  3 'Your silver and your gold is mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.'"
  
  4 The king of Israel answered, "It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have."
  
  5 The messengers came again, and said, "Ben Hadad says, 'I sent indeed to you, saying, "You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;
  
  6 but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away."'"
  
  7 Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, "Please notice how this man seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I didn't deny him."
  
  8 All the elders and all the people said to him, "Don't listen, neither consent."
  
  9 Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, "Tell my lord the king, 'All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do.'" The messengers departed, and brought him back the message.
  
  10 Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, "The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me."
  
  11 The king of Israel answered, "Tell him, 'Don't let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.'"
  
  12 It happened, when Ben Hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, "Prepare to attack!" They prepared to attack the city.
  
  13 Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.'"
  
  14 Ahab said, "By whom?" He said, "Thus says Yahweh, 'By the young men of the princes of the provinces.'" Then he said, "Who shall begin the battle?" He answered, "You."
  
  15 Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
  
  16 They went out at noon. But Ben Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.
  
  17 The young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, "Men are coming out from Samaria."
  
  18 He said, "If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive."
  
  19 So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.
  
  20 They each killed his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.
  
  21 The king of Israel went out, and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.
  
  22 The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, "Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you."
  
  23 The servants of the king of Syria said to him, "Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
  
  24 Do this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.
  
  25 Muster an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. We will fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than them." He listened to their voice, and did so.
  
  26 It happened at the return of the year, that Ben Hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
  
  27 The children of Israel were mustered, and were provisioned, and went against them. The children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of young goats; but the Syrians filled the country.
  
  28 A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Because the Syrians have said, "Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys"; therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.'"
  
  29 They encamped one over against the other seven days. So it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand footmen of the Syrians in one day.
  
  30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.
  
  31 His servants said to him, "See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life."
  
  32 So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, "Your servant Ben Hadad says, 'Please let me live.'" He said, "Is he still alive? He is my brother."
  
  33 Now the men observed diligently, and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, "Your brother Ben Hadad." Then he said, "Go, bring him." Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
  
  34 Ben Hadad said to him, "The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria." "I," said Ahab, "will let you go with this covenant." So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
  
  35 A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the word of Yahweh, "Please strike me!" The man refused to strike him.
  
  36 Then he said to him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall kill you." As soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him.
  
  37 Then he found another man, and said, "Please strike me." The man struck him, smiting and wounding him.
  
  38 So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.
  
  39 As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said, "Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, 'Guard this man! If by any means he be missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.'
  
  40 As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone." The king of Israel said to him, "So your judgment shall be; you yourself have decided it."
  
  41 He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was of the prophets.
  
  42 He said to him, "Thus says Yahweh, 'Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.'"
  
  43 The king of Israel went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Samaria.
  
  Daniel 2
  
  1 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.
  
  2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the enchanters, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.
  
  3 The king said to them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.
  
  4 Then spoke the Chaldeans to the king in the Syrian language, O king, live forever: tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.
  
  5 The king answered the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if you don't make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
  
  6 But if you show the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honor: therefore show me the dream and its interpretation.
  
  7 They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.
  
  8 The king answered, I know of a certainty that you would gain time, because you see the thing is gone from me.
  
  9 But if you don't make known to me the dream, there is but one law for you; for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, until the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me its interpretation.
  
  10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man on the earth who can show the king's matter, because no king, lord, or ruler, has asked such a thing of any magician, or enchanter, or Chaldean.
  
  11 It is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is no other who can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
  
  12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
  
  13 So the decree went forth, and the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.
  
  14 Then Daniel returned answer with counsel and prudence to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, who was gone forth to kill the wise men of Babylon;
  
  15 he answered Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so urgent from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
  
  16 Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would appoint him a time, and he would show the king the interpretation.
  
  17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
  
  18 that they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
  
  19 Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
  
  20 Daniel answered, Blessed be the name of God forever and ever; for wisdom and might are his.
  
  21 He changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding;
  
  22 he reveals the deep and secret things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
  
  23 I thank you, and praise you, you God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we desired of you; for you have made known to us the king's matter.
  
  24 Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said thus to him: Don't destroy the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will show to the king the interpretation.
  
  25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus to him, I have found a man of the children of the captivity of Judah, who will make known to the king the interpretation.
  
  26 The king answered Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?
  
  27 Daniel answered before the king, and said, The secret which the king has demanded can neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor soothsayers, show to the king;
  
  28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head on your bed, are these:
  
  29 as for you, O king, your thoughts came [into your mind] on your bed, what should happen hereafter; and he who reveals secrets has made known to you what shall happen.
  
  30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.
  
  31 You, O king, saw, and behold, a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its aspect was awesome.
  
  32 As for this image, its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,
  
  33 its legs of iron, its feet part of iron, and part of clay.
  
  34 You saw until a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.
  
  35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them: and the stone that struck the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
  
  36 This is the dream; and we will tell its interpretation before the king.
  
  37 You, O king, are king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory;
  
  38 and wherever the children of men dwell, the animals of the field and the birds of the sky has he given into your hand, and has made you to rule over them all: you are the head of gold.
  
  39 After you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you; and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
  
  40 The fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, because iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things; and as iron that crushes all these, shall it break in pieces and crush.
  
  41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, because you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.
  
  42 As the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
  
  43 Whereas you saw the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cling to one another, even as iron does not mingle with clay.
  
  44 In the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
  
  45 Because you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what shall happen hereafter: and the dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.
  
  46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, and worshiped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an offering and sweet odors to him.
  
  47 The king answered to Daniel, and said, Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you have been able to reveal this secret.
  
  48 Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon, and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.
  
  49 Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel was in the gate of the king.

  1 Therefore when we couldn't stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,
  
  2 and sent Timothy, our brother and God's servant in the Good News of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith;
  
  3 that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.
  
  4 For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.
  
  5 For this cause I also, when I couldn't stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.
  
  6 But when Timothy came just now to us from you, and brought us glad news of your faith and love, and that you have good memories of us always, longing to see us, even as we also long to see you;
  
  7 for this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith.
  
  8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.
  
  9 For what thanksgiving can we render again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God;
  
  10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
  
  11 Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you;
  
  12 and the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we also do toward you,
  
  13 to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

  22 וַיִּגַּ֤שׁ הַנָּבִיא֙ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ לֵ֣ךְ הִתְחַזַּ֔ק וְדַ֥ע וּרְאֵ֖ה אֵ֣ת אֲשֶֽׁר־תַּעֲשֶׂ֑ה כִּ֚י לִתְשׁוּבַ֣ת הַשָּׁנָ֔ה מֶ֥לֶךְ אֲרָ֖ם עֹלֶ֥ה עָלֶֽיךָ׃

  25 וְאַתָּ֣ה תִֽמְנֶה־לְךָ֣ ׀ חַ֡יִל כַּחַיִל֩ הַנֹּפֵ֨ל מֵאוֹתָ֜ךְ וְס֣וּס כַּסּ֣וּס ׀ וְרֶ֣כֶב כָּרֶ֗כֶב וְנִֽלָּחֲמָ֤ה אוֹתָם֙ בַּמִּישׁ֔וֹר אִם־לֹ֥א נֶחֱזַ֖ק מֵהֶ֑ם וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע לְקֹלָ֖ם וַיַּ֥עַשׂ כֵּֽן׃
  
  26 וַֽיְהִי֙ לִתְשׁוּבַ֣ת הַשָּׁנָ֔ה וַיִּפְקֹ֥ד בֶּן־הֲדַ֖ד אֶת־אֲרָ֑ם וַיַּ֣עַל אֲפֵ֔קָה לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה עִם־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
  
  27 וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הָתְפָּקְדוּ֙ וְכָלְכְּל֔וּ וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ לִקְרָאתָ֑ם וַיַּחֲנ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל נֶגְדָּ֗ם כִּשְׁנֵי֙ חֲשִׂפֵ֣י עִזִּ֔ים וַאֲרָ֖ם מִלְא֥וּ אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
  
  28 וַיִּגַּ֞שׁ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים וַיֹּאמֶר֮ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה יַ֠עַן אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמְר֤וּ אֲרָם֙ אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָרִים֙ יְהוָ֔ה וְלֹֽא־אֱלֹהֵ֥י עֲמָקִ֖ים ה֑וּא וְ֠נָתַתִּי אֶת־כָּל־הֶהָמ֨וֹן הַגָּ֤דוֹל הַזֶּה֙ בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ וִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ם כִּֽי־אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה׃
  
  29 וַֽיַּחֲנ֧וּ אֵ֦לֶּה נֹ֥כַח אֵ֖לֶּה שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים וַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י וַתִּקְרַב֙ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַיַּכּ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל אֶת־אֲרָ֛ם מֵאָה־אֶ֥לֶף רַגְלִ֖י בְּי֥וֹם אֶחָֽד׃
  
  30 וַיָּנֻ֨סוּ הַנּוֹתָרִ֥ים ׀ אֲפֵקָה֮ אֶל־הָעִיר֒ וַתִּפֹּל֙ הַחוֹמָ֔ה עַל־עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְשִׁבְעָ֥ה אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ הַנּוֹתָרִ֑ים וּבֶן־הֲדַ֣ד נָ֔ס וַיָּבֹ֥א אֶל־הָעִ֖יר חֶ֥דֶר בְּחָֽדֶר׃
  
  31 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָיו֮ עֲבָדָיו֒ הִנֵּֽה־נָ֣א שָׁמַ֔עְנוּ כִּ֗י מַלְכֵי֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּֽי־מַלְכֵ֥י חֶ֖סֶד הֵ֑ם נָשִׂ֣ימָה נָּא֩ שַׂקִּ֨ים בְּמָתְנֵ֜ינוּ וַחֲבָלִ֣ים בְּרֹאשֵׁ֗נוּ וְנֵצֵא֙ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אוּלַ֖י יְחַיֶּ֥ה אֶת־נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃
  
  32 וַיַּחְגְּרוּ֩ שַׂקִּ֨ים בְּמָתְנֵיהֶ֜ם וַחֲבָלִ֣ים בְּרָאשֵׁיהֶ֗ם וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ עַבְדְּךָ֧ בֶן־הֲדַ֛ד אָמַ֖ר תְּחִֽי־נָ֣א נַפְשִׁ֑י וַיֹּ֛אמֶר הַעוֹדֶ֥נּוּ חַ֖י אָחִ֥י הֽוּא׃
  
  33 וְהָאֲנָשִׁים֩ יְנַחֲשׁ֨וּ וַֽיְמַהֲר֜וּ וַיַּחְלְט֣וּ הֲמִמֶּ֗נּוּ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אָחִ֣יךָ בֶן־הֲדַ֔ד וַיֹּ֖אמֶר בֹּ֣אוּ קָחֻ֑הוּ וַיֵּצֵ֤א אֵלָיו֙ בֶּן־הֲדַ֔ד וַֽיַּעֲלֵ֖הוּ עַל־הַמֶּרְכָּבָֽה׃
  
  34 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֡יו הֶעָרִ֣ים אֲשֶׁר־לָֽקַח־אָבִי֩ מֵאֵ֨ת אָבִ֜יךָ אָשִׁ֗יב וְ֠חוּצוֹת תָּשִׂ֨ים לְךָ֤ בְדַמֶּ֙שֶׂק֙ כַּאֲשֶׁר־שָׂ֤ם אָבִי֙ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן וַאֲנִ֖י בַּבְּרִ֣ית אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑ךָּ וַיִּכְרָת־ל֥וֹ בְרִ֖ית וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵֽהוּ׃
  
  35 וְאִ֨ישׁ אֶחָ֜ד מִבְּנֵ֣י הַנְּבִיאִ֗ים אָמַ֧ר אֶל־רֵעֵ֛הוּ בִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה הַכֵּ֣ינִי נָ֑א וַיְמָאֵ֥ן הָאִ֖ישׁ לְהַכֹּתֽוֹ׃
  
  36 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־שָׁמַ֙עְתָּ֙ בְּק֣וֹל יְהוָ֔ה הִנְּךָ֤ הוֹלֵךְ֙ מֵֽאִתִּ֔י וְהִכְּךָ֖ הָאַרְיֵ֑ה וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ מֵֽאֶצְל֔וֹ וַיִּמְצָאֵ֥הוּ הָאַרְיֵ֖ה וַיַּכֵּֽהוּ׃
  
  37 וַיִּמְצָא֙ אִ֣ישׁ אַחֵ֔ר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הַכֵּ֣ינִי נָ֑א וַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ הָאִ֖ישׁ הַכֵּ֥ה וּפָצֹֽעַ׃
  
  38 וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ הַנָּבִ֔יא וַיַּעֲמֹ֥ד לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ עַל־הַדָּ֑רֶךְ וַיִּתְחַפֵּ֥שׂ בָּאֲפֵ֖ר עַל־עֵינָֽיו׃
  
  39 וַיְהִ֤י הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ עֹבֵ֔ר וְה֖וּא צָעַ֣ק אֶל־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֜אמֶר עַבְדְּךָ֣ ׀ יָצָ֣א בְקֶֽרֶב־הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וְהִנֵּֽה־אִ֨ישׁ סָ֜ר וַיָּבֵ֧א אֵלַ֣י אִ֗ישׁ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ שְׁמֹר֙ אֶת־הָאִ֣ישׁ הַזֶּ֔ה אִם־הִפָּקֵד֙ יִפָּקֵ֔ד וְהָיְתָ֤ה נַפְשְׁךָ֙ תַּ֣חַת נַפְשׁ֔וֹ א֥וֹ כִכַּר־כֶּ֖סֶף תִּשְׁקֽוֹל׃
  
  40 וַיְהִ֣י עַבְדְּךָ֗ עֹשֵׂ֥ה הֵ֛נָּה וָהֵ֖נָּה וְה֣וּא אֵינֶ֑נּוּ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֧יו מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל כֵּ֥ן מִשְׁפָּטֶ֖ךָ אַתָּ֥ה חָרָֽצְתָּ׃
  
  41 וַיְמַהֵ֕ר וַיָּ֙סַר֙ אֶת־הָ֣אֲפֵ֔ר *מעל **מֵעֲלֵ֖י עֵינָ֑יו וַיַּכֵּ֤ר אֹתוֹ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֥י מֵֽהַנְּבִאִ֖ים הֽוּא׃
  
  42 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗יו כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה יַ֛עַן שִׁלַּ֥חְתָּ אֶת־אִישׁ־חֶרְמִ֖י מִיָּ֑ד וְהָיְתָ֤ה נַפְשְׁךָ֙ תַּ֣חַת נַפְשׁ֔וֹ וְעַמְּךָ֖ תַּ֥חַת עַמּֽוֹ׃

  1 וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת שְׁתַּ֗יִם לְמַלְכוּת֙ נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר חָלַ֥ם נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר חֲלֹמ֑וֹת וַתִּתְפָּ֣עֶם רוּח֔וֹ וּשְׁנָת֖וֹ נִהְיְתָ֥ה עָלָֽיו׃
  
  2 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ לִקְרֹ֨א לַֽחַרְטֻמִּ֜ים וְלָֽאַשָּׁפִ֗ים וְלַֽמְכַשְּׁפִים֙ וְלַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים לְהַגִּ֥יד לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ חֲלֹמֹתָ֑יו וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
  
  3 וַיֹּ֧אמֶר לָהֶ֛ם הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ חֲל֣וֹם חָלָ֑מְתִּי וַתִּפָּ֣עֶם רוּחִ֔י לָדַ֖עַת אֶֽת־הַחֲלֽוֹם׃
  
  4 וַֽיְדַבְּר֧וּ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֛ים לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֲרָמִ֑ית מַלְכָּא֙ לְעָלְמִ֣ין חֱיִ֔י אֱמַ֥ר חֶלְמָ֛א *לעבדיך **לְעַבְדָ֖ךְ וּפִשְׁרָ֥א נְחַוֵּֽא׃
  
  5 עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֣ר *לכשדיא **לְכַשְׂדָּאֵ֔י מִלְּתָ֖א מִנִּ֣י אַזְדָּ֑א הֵ֣ן לָ֤א תְהֽוֹדְעוּנַּ֙נִי֙ חֶלְמָ֣א וּפִשְׁרֵ֔הּ הַדָּמִין֙ תִּתְעַבְד֔וּן וּבָתֵּיכ֖וֹן נְוָלִ֥י יִתְּשָׂמֽוּן׃
  
  6 וְהֵ֨ן חֶלְמָ֤א וּפִשְׁרֵהּ֙ תְּֽהַחֲוֺ֔ן מַתְּנָ֤ן וּנְבִזְבָּה֙ וִיקָ֣ר שַׂגִּ֔יא תְּקַבְּל֖וּן מִן־קֳדָמָ֑י לָהֵ֕ן חֶלְמָ֥א וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ הַחֲוֺֽנִי׃
  
  7 עֲנ֥וֹ תִנְיָנ֖וּת וְאָמְרִ֑ין מַלְכָּ֕א חֶלְמָ֛א יֵאמַ֥ר לְעַבְד֖וֹהִי וּפִשְׁרָ֥ה נְהַחֲוֵֽה׃
  
  8 עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֔ר מִן־יַצִּיב֙ יָדַ֣ע אֲנָ֔ה דִּ֥י עִדָּנָ֖א אַנְתּ֣וּן זָבְנִ֑ין כָּל־קֳבֵל֙ דִּ֣י חֲזֵית֔וֹן דִּ֥י אַזְדָּ֖א מִנִּ֥י מִלְּתָֽא׃
  
  9 דִּ֣י הֵן־חֶלְמָא֩ לָ֨א תְהֽוֹדְעֻנַּ֜נִי חֲדָה־הִ֣יא דָֽתְכ֗וֹן וּמִלָּ֨ה כִדְבָ֤ה וּשְׁחִיתָה֙ *הזמנתון **הִזְדְּמִנְתּוּן֙ לְמֵאמַ֣ר קָֽדָמַ֔י עַ֛ד דִּ֥י עִדָּנָ֖א יִשְׁתַּנֵּ֑א לָהֵ֗ן חֶלְמָא֙ אֱמַ֣רוּ לִ֔י וְֽאִנְדַּ֕ע דִּ֥י פִשְׁרֵ֖הּ תְּהַחֲוֻנַּֽנִי׃
  
  10 עֲנ֨וֹ *כשדיא **כַשְׂדָּאֵ֤י קֳדָם־מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָ֣מְרִ֔ין לָֽא־אִיתַ֤י אֲנָשׁ֙ עַל־יַבֶּשְׁתָּ֔א דִּ֚י מִלַּ֣ת מַלְכָּ֔א יוּכַ֖ל לְהַחֲוָיָ֑ה כָּל־קֳבֵ֗ל דִּ֚י כָּל־מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ רַ֣ב וְשַׁלִּ֔יט מִלָּ֤ה כִדְנָה֙ לָ֣א שְׁאֵ֔ל לְכָל־חַרְטֹּ֖ם וְאָשַׁ֥ף וְכַשְׂדָּֽי׃
  
  11 וּמִלְּתָ֨א דִֽי־מַלְכָּ֤ה שָׁאֵל֙ יַקִּירָ֔ה וְאָחֳרָן֙ לָ֣א אִיתַ֔י דִּ֥י יְחַוִּנַּ֖הּ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א לָהֵ֣ן אֱלָהִ֔ין דִּ֚י מְדָ֣רְה֔וֹן עִם־בִּשְׂרָ֖א לָ֥א אִיתֽוֹהִי׃
  
  12 כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֔ה מַלְכָּ֕א בְּנַ֖ס וּקְצַ֣ף שַׂגִּ֑יא וַאֲמַר֙ לְה֣וֹבָדָ֔ה לְכֹ֖ל חַכִּימֵ֥י בָבֶֽל׃
  
  13 וְדָתָ֣א נֶפְקַ֔ת וְחַכִּֽימַיָּ֖א מִֽתְקַטְּלִ֑ין וּבְע֛וֹ דָּנִיֵּ֥אל וְחַבְר֖וֹהִי לְהִתְקְטָלָֽה׃
  
  14 בֵּאדַ֣יִן דָּנִיֵּ֗אל הֲתִיב֙ עֵטָ֣א וּטְעֵ֔ם לְאַרְי֕וֹךְ רַב־טַבָּחַיָּ֖א דִּ֣י מַלְכָּ֑א דִּ֚י נְפַ֣ק לְקַטָּלָ֔ה לְחַכִּימֵ֖י בָּבֶֽל׃
  
  15 עָנֵ֣ה וְאָמַ֗ר לְאַרְיוֹךְ֙ שַׁלִּיטָ֣א דִֽי־מַלְכָּ֔א עַל־מָ֥ה דָתָ֛א מְהַחְצְפָ֖ה מִן־קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א אֱדַ֣יִן מִלְּתָ֔א הוֹדַ֥ע אַרְי֖וֹךְ לְדָנִיֵּֽאל׃
  
  16 וְדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אל עַ֖ל וּבְעָ֣ה מִן־מַלְכָּ֑א דִּ֚י זְמָ֣ן יִנְתֵּן־לֵ֔הּ וּפִשְׁרָ֖א לְהַֽחֲוָיָ֥ה לְמַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  17 אֱדַ֥יִן דָּֽנִיֵּ֖אל לְבַיְתֵ֣הּ אֲזַ֑ל וְ֠לַחֲנַנְיָה מִֽישָׁאֵ֧ל וַעֲזַרְיָ֛ה חַבְר֖וֹהִי מִלְּתָ֥א הוֹדַֽע׃
  
  18 וְרַחֲמִ֗ין לְמִבְעֵא֙ מִן־קֳדָם֙ אֱלָ֣הּ שְׁמַיָּ֔א עַל־רָזָ֖ה דְּנָ֑ה דִּ֣י לָ֤א יְהֹֽבְדוּן֙ דָּנִיֵּ֣אל וְחַבְר֔וֹהִי עִם־שְׁאָ֖ר חַכִּימֵ֥י בָבֶֽל׃
  
  19 אֱדַ֗יִן לְדָנִיֵּ֛אל בְּחֶזְוָ֥א דִֽי־לֵילְיָ֖א רָזָ֣ה גֲלִ֑י אֱדַ֙יִן֙ דָּֽנִיֵּ֔אל בָּרִ֖ךְ לֶאֱלָ֥הּ שְׁמַיָּֽא׃
  
  20 עָנֵ֤ה דָֽנִיֵּאל֙ וְאָמַ֔ר לֶהֱוֵ֨א שְׁמֵ֤הּ דִּֽי־אֱלָהָא֙ מְבָרַ֔ךְ מִן־עָלְמָ֖א וְעַ֣ד־עָלְמָ֑א דִּ֧י חָכְמְתָ֛א וּגְבוּרְתָ֖א דִּ֥י לֵֽהּ־הִֽיא׃
  
  21 וְ֠הוּא מְהַשְׁנֵ֤א עִדָּנַיָּא֙ וְזִמְנַיָּ֔א מְהַעְדֵּ֥ה מַלְכִ֖ין וּמְהָקֵ֣ים מַלְכִ֑ין יָהֵ֤ב חָכְמְתָא֙ לְחַכִּימִ֔ין וּמַנְדְּעָ֖א לְיָדְעֵ֥י בִינָֽה׃
  
  22 ה֛וּא גָּלֵ֥א עַמִּיקָתָ֖א וּמְסַתְּרָתָ֑א יָדַע֙ מָ֣ה בַחֲשׁוֹכָ֔א *ונהירא **וּנְהוֹרָ֖א עִמֵּ֥הּ שְׁרֵֽא׃
  
  23 לָ֣ךְ ׀ אֱלָ֣הּ אֲבָהָתִ֗י מְהוֹדֵ֤א וּמְשַׁבַּח֙ אֲנָ֔ה דִּ֧י חָכְמְתָ֛א וּגְבוּרְתָ֖א יְהַ֣בְתְּ לִ֑י וּכְעַ֤ן הֽוֹדַעְתַּ֙נִי֙ דִּֽי־בְעֵ֣ינָא מִנָּ֔ךְ דִּֽי־מִלַּ֥ת מַלְכָּ֖א הוֹדַעְתֶּֽנָא׃
  
  24 כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֗ה דָּֽנִיֵּאל֙ עַ֣ל עַל־אַרְי֔וֹךְ דִּ֚י מַנִּ֣י מַלְכָּ֔א לְהוֹבָדָ֖ה לְחַכִּימֵ֣י בָבֶ֑ל אֲזַ֣ל ׀ וְכֵ֣ן אֲמַר־לֵ֗הּ לְחַכִּימֵ֤י בָבֶל֙ אַל־תְּהוֹבֵ֔ד הַעֵ֙לְנִי֙ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֔א וּפִשְׁרָ֖א לְמַלְכָּ֥א אֲחַוֵּֽא׃
  
  25 אֱדַ֤יִן אַרְיוֹךְ֙ בְּהִתְבְּהָלָ֔ה הַנְעֵ֥ל לְדָנִיֵּ֖אל קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א וְכֵ֣ן אֲמַר־לֵ֗הּ דִּֽי־הַשְׁכַּ֤חַת גְּבַר֙ מִן־בְּנֵ֤י גָֽלוּתָא֙ דִּ֣י יְה֔וּד דִּ֥י פִשְׁרָ֖א לְמַלְכָּ֥א יְהוֹדַֽע׃
  
  26 עָנֵ֤ה מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָמַ֣ר לְדָנִיֵּ֔אל דִּ֥י שְׁמֵ֖הּ בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֑ר *האיתיך **הַֽאִיתָ֣ךְ כָּהֵ֗ל לְהוֹדָעֻתַ֛נִי חֶלְמָ֥א דִֽי־חֲזֵ֖ית וּפִשְׁרֵֽהּ׃
  
  27 עָנֵ֧ה דָנִיֵּ֛אל קֳדָ֥ם מַלְכָּ֖א וְאָמַ֑ר רָזָה֙ דִּֽי־מַלְכָּ֣א שָׁאֵ֔ל לָ֧א חַכִּימִ֣ין אָֽשְׁפִ֗ין חַרְטֻמִּין֙ גָּזְרִ֔ין יָכְלִ֖ין לְהַֽחֲוָיָ֥ה לְמַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  28 בְּרַ֡ם אִיתַ֞י אֱלָ֤הּ בִּשְׁמַיָּא֙ גָּלֵ֣א רָזִ֔ין וְהוֹדַ֗ע לְמַלְכָּא֙ נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר מָ֛ה דִּ֥י לֶהֱוֵ֖א בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית יוֹמַיָּ֑א חֶלְמָ֨ךְ וְחֶזְוֵ֥י רֵאשָׁ֛ךְ עַֽל־מִשְׁכְּבָ֖ךְ דְּנָ֥ה הֽוּא׃
  
  29 אַ֣נְתְּה מַלְכָּ֗א רַעְיוֹנָךְ֙ עַל־מִשְׁכְּבָ֣ךְ סְלִ֔קוּ מָ֛ה דִּ֥י לֶהֱוֵ֖א אַחֲרֵ֣י דְנָ֑ה וְגָלֵ֧א רָזַיָּ֛א הוֹדְעָ֖ךְ מָה־דִ֥י לֶהֱוֵֽא׃
  
  30 וַאֲנָ֗ה לָ֤א בְחָכְמָה֙ דִּֽי־אִיתַ֥י בִּי֙ מִן־כָּל־חַיַּיָּ֔א רָזָ֥א דְנָ֖ה גֱּלִ֣י לִ֑י לָהֵ֗ן עַל־דִּבְרַת֙ דִּ֤י פִשְׁרָא֙ לְמַלְכָּ֣א יְהוֹדְע֔וּן וְרַעְיוֹנֵ֥י לִבְבָ֖ךְ תִּנְדַּֽע׃
  
  31 אַ֣נְתְּה מַלְכָּ֗א חָזֵ֤ה הֲוַ֙יְתָ֙ וַאֲל֨וּ צְלֵ֥ם חַד֙ שַׂגִּ֔יא צַלְמָ֨א דִּכֵּ֥ן רַ֛ב וְזִיוֵ֥הּ יַתִּ֖יר קָאֵ֣ם לְקָבְלָ֑ךְ וְרֵוֵ֖הּ דְּחִֽיל׃
  
  32 ה֣וּא צַלְמָ֗א רֵאשֵׁהּ֙ דִּֽי־דְהַ֣ב טָ֔ב חֲד֥וֹהִי וּדְרָע֖וֹהִי דִּ֣י כְסַ֑ף מְע֥וֹהִי וְיַרְכָתֵ֖הּ דִּ֥י נְחָֽשׁ׃
  
  33 שָׁק֖וֹהִי דִּ֣י פַרְזֶ֑ל רַגְל֕וֹהִי *מנהון **מִנְּהֵין֙ דִּ֣י פַרְזֶ֔ל *ומנהון **וּמִנְּהֵ֖ין דִּ֥י חֲסַֽף׃
  
  34 חָזֵ֣ה הֲוַ֗יְתָ עַ֠ד דִּ֣י הִתְגְּזֶ֤רֶת אֶ֙בֶן֙ דִּי־לָ֣א בִידַ֔יִן וּמְחָ֤ת לְצַלְמָא֙ עַל־רַגְל֔וֹהִי דִּ֥י פַרְזְלָ֖א וְחַסְפָּ֑א וְהַדֵּ֖קֶת הִמּֽוֹן׃
  
  35 בֵּאדַ֣יִן דָּ֣קוּ כַחֲדָ֡ה פַּרְזְלָא֩ חַסְפָּ֨א נְחָשָׁ֜א כַּסְפָּ֣א וְדַהֲבָ֗א וַהֲווֹ֙ כְּע֣וּר מִן־אִדְּרֵי־קַ֔יִט וּנְשָׂ֤א הִמּוֹן֙ רוּחָ֔א וְכָל־אֲתַ֖ר לָא־הִשְׁתֲּכַ֣ח לְה֑וֹן וְאַבְנָ֣א ׀ דִּֽי־מְחָ֣ת לְצַלְמָ֗א הֲוָ֛ת לְט֥וּר רַ֖ב וּמְלָ֥ת כָּל־אַרְעָֽא׃
  
  36 דְּנָ֣ה חֶלְמָ֔א וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ נֵאמַ֥ר קֳדָם־מַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  37 אַ֣נְתְּה מַלְכָּ֔א מֶ֖לֶךְ מַלְכַיָּ֑א דִּ֚י אֱלָ֣הּ שְׁמַיָּ֔א מַלְכוּתָ֥א חִסְנָ֛א וְתָקְפָּ֥א וִֽיקָרָ֖א יְהַב־לָֽךְ׃
  
  38 וּבְכָל־דִּ֣י *דארין **דָֽיְרִ֣ין בְּֽנֵי־אֲ֠נָשָׁא חֵיוַ֨ת בָּרָ֤א וְעוֹף־שְׁמַיָּא֙ יְהַ֣ב בִּידָ֔ךְ וְהַשְׁלְטָ֖ךְ בְּכָלְּה֑וֹן אַנְתְּה־ה֔וּא רֵאשָׁ֖ה דִּ֥י דַהֲבָֽא׃
  
  39 וּבָתְרָ֗ךְ תְּק֛וּם מַלְכ֥וּ אָחֳרִ֖י אֲרַ֣עא מִנָּ֑ךְ וּמַלְכ֨וּ *תליתיא **תְלִיתָאָ֤ה אָחֳרִי֙ דִּ֣י נְחָשָׁ֔א דִּ֥י תִשְׁלַ֖ט בְּכָל־אַרְעָֽא׃
  
  40 וּמַלְכוּ֙ *רביעיה **רְבִ֣יעָאָ֔ה תֶּהֱוֵ֥א תַקִּיפָ֖ה כְּפַרְזְלָ֑א כָּל־קֳבֵ֗ל דִּ֤י פַרְזְלָא֙ מְהַדֵּ֤ק וְחָשֵׁל֙ כֹּ֔לָּא וּֽכְפַרְזְלָ֛א דִּֽי־מְרָעַ֥ע כָּל־אִלֵּ֖ין תַּדִּ֥ק וְתֵרֹֽעַ׃
  
  41 וְדִֽי־חֲזַ֜יְתָה רַגְלַיָּ֣א וְאֶצְבְּעָתָ֗א *מנהון **מִנְּהֵ֞ן חֲסַ֤ף דִּֽי־פֶחָר֙ *ומנהון **וּמִנְּהֵ֣ין פַּרְזֶ֔ל מַלְכ֤וּ פְלִיגָה֙ תֶּהֱוֵ֔ה וּמִן־נִצְבְּתָ֥א דִ֥י פַרְזְלָ֖א לֶֽהֱוֵא־בַ֑הּ כָּל־קֳבֵל֙ דִּ֣י חֲזַ֔יְתָה פַּ֨רְזְלָ֔א מְעָרַ֖ב בַּחֲסַ֥ף טִינָֽא׃
  
  42 וְאֶצְבְּעָת֙ רַגְלַיָּ֔א *מנהון **מִנְּהֵ֥ין פַּרְזֶ֖ל *ומנהון **וּמִנְּהֵ֣ין חֲסַ֑ף מִן־קְצָ֤ת מַלְכוּתָא֙ תֶּהֱוֵ֣ה תַקִּיפָ֔ה וּמִנַּ֖הּ תֶּהֱוֵ֥ה תְבִירָֽה׃
  
  43 *די **וְדִ֣י חֲזַ֗יְתָ פַּרְזְלָא֙ מְעָרַב֙ בַּחֲסַ֣ף טִינָ֔א מִתְעָרְבִ֤ין לֶהֱוֺן֙ בִּזְרַ֣ע אֲנָשָׁ֔א וְלָֽא־לֶהֱוֺ֥ן דָּבְקִ֖ין דְּנָ֣ה עִם־דְּנָ֑ה הֵֽא־כְדִ֣י פַרְזְלָ֔א לָ֥א מִתְעָרַ֖ב עִם־חַסְפָּֽא׃
  
  44 וּֽבְיוֹמֵיה֞וֹן דִּ֧י מַלְכַיָּ֣א אִנּ֗וּן יְקִים֩ אֱלָ֨הּ שְׁמַיָּ֤א מַלְכוּ֙ דִּ֤י לְעָלְמִין֙ לָ֣א תִתְחַבַּ֔ל וּמַ֨לְכוּתָ֔ה לְעַ֥ם אָחֳרָ֖ן לָ֣א תִשְׁתְּבִ֑ק תַּדִּ֤ק וְתָסֵיף֙ כָּל־אִלֵּ֣ין מַלְכְוָתָ֔א וְהִ֖יא תְּק֥וּם לְעָלְמַיָּֽא׃
  
  45 כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דִּֽי־חֲזַ֡יְתָ דִּ֣י מִטּוּרָא֩ אִתְגְּזֶ֨רֶת אֶ֜בֶן דִּי־לָ֣א בִידַ֗יִן וְ֠הַדֶּקֶת פַּרְזְלָ֨א נְחָשָׁ֤א חַסְפָּא֙ כַּסְפָּ֣א וְדַהֲבָ֔א אֱלָ֥הּ רַב֙ הוֹדַ֣ע לְמַלְכָּ֔א מָ֛ה דִּ֥י לֶהֱוֵ֖א אַחֲרֵ֣י דְנָ֑ה וְיַצִּ֥יב חֶלְמָ֖א וּמְהֵימַ֥ן פִּשְׁרֵֽהּ׃
  
  46 בֵּ֠אדַיִן מַלְכָּ֤א נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּר֙ נְפַ֣ל עַל־אַנְפּ֔וֹהִי וּלְדָנִיֵּ֖אל סְגִ֑ד וּמִנְחָה֙ וְנִ֣יחֹחִ֔ין אֲמַ֖ר לְנַסָּ֥כָה לֵֽהּ׃
  
  47 עָנֵה֩ מַלְכָּ֨א לְדָנִיֵּ֜אל וְאָמַ֗ר מִן־קְשֹׁט֙ דִּ֣י אֱלָהֲכ֗וֹן ה֣וּא אֱלָ֧הּ אֱלָהִ֛ין וּמָרֵ֥א מַלְכִ֖ין וְגָלֵ֣ה רָזִ֑ין דִּ֣י יְכֵ֔לְתָּ לְמִגְלֵ֖א רָזָ֥ה דְנָֽה׃

  1 Διὸ μηκέτι στέγοντες εὐδοκήσαμεν καταλειφθῆναι ἐν Ἀθήναις μόνοι,
  
  2 καὶ ἐπέμψαμεν Τιμόθεον, τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν καὶ συνεργὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ τοῦ Χριστοῦ, εἰς τὸ στηρίξαι ὑμᾶς καὶ παρακαλέσαι ὑπὲρ τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν
  
  3 τὸ μηδένα σαίνεσθαι ἐν ταῖς θλίψεσιν ταύταις. αὐτοὶ γὰρ οἴδατε ὅτι εἰς τοῦτο κείμεθα·
  
  4 καὶ γὰρ ὅτε πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἦμεν, προελέγομεν ὑμῖν ὅτι μέλλομεν θλίβεσθαι, καθὼς καὶ ἐγένετο καὶ οἴδατε.
  
  5 διὰ τοῦτο κἀγὼ μηκέτι στέγων ἔπεμψα εἰς τὸ γνῶναι τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν, μή πως ἐπείρασεν ὑμᾶς ὁ πειράζων καὶ εἰς κενὸν γένηται ὁ κόπος ἡμῶν.
  
  6 Ἄρτι δὲ ἐλθόντος Τιμοθέου πρὸς ἡμᾶς ἀφ’ ὑμῶν καὶ εὐαγγελισαμένου ἡμῖν τὴν πίστιν καὶ τὴν ἀγάπην ὑμῶν, καὶ ὅτι ἔχετε μνείαν ἡμῶν ἀγαθὴν πάντοτε ἐπιποθοῦντες ἡμᾶς ἰδεῖν καθάπερ καὶ ἡμεῖς ὑμᾶς,
  
  7 διὰ τοῦτο παρεκλήθημεν, ἀδελφοί, ἐφ’ ὑμῖν ἐπὶ πάσῃ τῇ ἀνάγκῃ καὶ θλίψει ἡμῶν διὰ τῆς ὑμῶν πίστεως,
  
  8 ὅτι νῦν ζῶμεν ἐὰν ὑμεῖς στήκετε ἐν κυρίῳ.
  
  9 τίνα γὰρ εὐχαριστίαν δυνάμεθα τῷ θεῷ ἀνταποδοῦναι περὶ ὑμῶν ἐπὶ πάσῃ τῇ χαρᾷ ᾗ χαίρομεν δι’ ὑμᾶς ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν,
  
  10 νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας ὑπερεκπερισσοῦ δεόμενοι εἰς τὸ ἰδεῖν ὑμῶν τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ καταρτίσαι τὰ ὑστερήματα τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν;
  
  11 Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ ἡμῶν καὶ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς κατευθύναι τὴν ὁδὸν ἡμῶν πρὸς ὑμᾶς·
  
  12 ὑμᾶς δὲ ὁ κύριος πλεονάσαι καὶ περισσεύσαι τῇ ἀγάπῃ εἰς ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰς πάντας, καθάπερ καὶ ἡμεῖς εἰς ὑμᾶς,
  
  13 εἰς τὸ στηρίξαι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας ἀμέμπτους ἐν ἁγιωσύνῃ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων αὐτοῦ.
