  1 Et il arriva, après ces choses, que Naboth, le Jizreélite, avait une vigne qui était à Jizreël, à côté du palais d'Achab, roi de Samarie.
  
  2 Et Achab parla à Naboth, disant : Donne-moi ta vigne afin que j'en fasse un jardin potager, car elle est proche, à côté de ma maison, et je te donnerai à sa place une meilleure vigne que celle-là, ou, si cela est bon à tes yeux, je te donnerai l'argent que vaut celle-ci.
  
  3 Et Naboth dit à Achab : Que l'Éternel me garde de te donner l'héritage de mes pères.
  
  4 Et Achab s'en vint à sa maison, triste et irrité, à cause de la parole que Naboth, le Jizreélite, lui avait dite ; car il avait dit : Je ne te donnerai pas l'héritage de mes pères. Et il s'étendit sur sa couche, et détourna sa face, et ne mangea pas du pain.
  
  5 Et Jézabel, sa femme, vint vers lui et lui dit : Pourquoi donc ton esprit est-il triste et ne manges-tu pas du pain ?
  
  6 Et il lui dit : Parce que j'ai parlé à Naboth, le Jizreélite, et lui ai dit : Donne-moi ta vigne pour de l'argent, ou si cela te plaît, je te donnerai une vigne en sa place. Et il a dit : Je ne te donnerai pas ma vigne.
  
  7 Et Jézabel, sa femme, lui dit : Est-ce toi qui exerces maintenant la royauté sur Israël ? Lève-toi, mange du pain, et que ton coeur soit gai ; moi, je te donnerai la vigne de Naboth, le Jizreélite.
  
  8 Et elle écrivit des lettres au nom d'Achab, et les scella de son sceau, et envoya les lettres aux anciens et aux nobles qui étaient dans sa ville, qui habitaient avec Naboth.
  
  9 Et elle écrivit dans les lettres, disant : Proclamez un jeûne et mettez Naboth en tête du peuple,
  
  10 et mettez deux hommes, fils de Bélial, en face de lui, et qu'ils témoignent contre lui, disant : Tu as maudit Dieu et le roi. Et menez-le dehors et lapidez-le, et qu'il meure.
  
  11 Et les hommes de sa ville, les anciens et les nobles qui habitaient sa ville, firent selon ce que Jézabel leur avait mandé, selon ce qui était écrit dans les lettres qu'elle leur avait envoyées :
  
  12 ils proclamèrent un jeûne et mirent Naboth en tête du peuple ;
  
  13 et deux hommes, fils de Bélial, vinrent et s'assirent en face de lui ; et les hommes de Bélial témoignèrent contre lui, contre Naboth, devant le peuple, disant : Naboth a maudit Dieu et le roi. Et ils le menèrent hors de la ville, et l'assommèrent de pierres, et il mourut.
  
  14 Et ils envoyèrent à Jézabel, disant : Naboth a été lapidé, et il est mort.
  
  15 Et il arriva que lorsque Jézabel apprit que Naboth avait été lapidé et était mort, Jézabel dit à Achab : Lève-toi, prends possession de la vigne de Naboth, le Jizreélite, qu'il refusa de te donner pour de l'argent, car Naboth n'est pas vivant, mais il est mort.
  
  16 Et il arriva que, quand Achab apprit que Naboth était mort, Achab se leva pour descendre à la vigne de Naboth, le Jizreélite, pour en prendre possession.
  
  17 Et la parole de l'Éternel vint à Élie, le Thishbite, disant :
  
  18 Lève-toi, descends à la rencontre d'Achab, le roi d'Israël, qui est à Samarie : voici, il est dans la vigne de Naboth, où il est descendu pour en prendre possession.
  
  19 Et tu lui parleras, disant : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : As-tu tué, et aussi pris possession ? Et tu lui parleras, disant : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Au lieu où les chiens ont léché le sang de Naboth, les chiens lécheront ton sang, à toi aussi.
  
  20 Et Achab dit à Élie : M'as-tu trouvé, mon ennemi ? Et il dit : Je t'ai trouvé, parce que tu t'es vendu pour faire ce qui est mauvais aux yeux de l'Éternel.
  
  21 Voici je vais faire venir du mal sur toi, et j'ôterai ta postérité, et je retrancherai d'Achab tous les mâles, l'homme lié et l'homme libre en Israël ;
  
  22 et je ferai de ta maison comme de la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, et de la maison de Baësha, fils d'Akhija, à cause de la provocation par laquelle tu m'as provoqué et tu as fait pécher Israël.
  
  23 Et aussi à l'égard de Jézabel, l'Éternel parla, disant : Les chiens mangeront Jézabel à l'avant-mur de Jizreël.
  
  24 Celui de la maison d'Achab qui mourra dans la ville, les chiens le mangeront, et celui qui mourra dans les champs, les oiseaux des cieux le mangeront.
  
  25 (Certainement il n'y eut point de roi comme Achab, qui se vendit pour faire ce qui est mauvais aux yeux de l'Éternel, sa femme Jézabel le poussant.
  
  26 Et il agit très-abominablement, en allant après les idoles, selon tout ce que faisaient les Amoréens que l'Éternel avait dépossédés devant les fils d'Israël.)
  
  27 Et il arriva, quand Achab entendit ces paroles, qu'il déchira ses vêtements, et mit un sac sur sa chair, et jeûna ; et il couchait avec le sac et marchait doucement.
  
  28 Et la parole de l'Éternel vint à Élie, le Thishbite, disant :
  
  29 Vois-tu comment Achab s'est humilié devant moi ? Parce qu'il s'est humilié devant moi, je ne ferai pas venir le mal en ses jours ; mais dans les jours de son fils, je ferai venir le mal sur sa maison.

  1 Nebucadnetsar, le roi, fit une statue d'or ; sa hauteur était de soixante coudées, sa largeur, de six coudées ; il la dressa dans la plaine de Dura, dans la province de Babylone.
  
  2 Et Nebucadnetsar, le roi, envoya un ordre pour assembler les satrapes, les préfets, les gouverneurs, les grands juges, les trésoriers, les conseillers, les légistes, et tous les magistrats des provinces, afin qu'ils vinssent pour la dédicace de la statue que Nebucadnetsar, le roi, avait dressée.
  
  3 Alors s'assemblèrent les satrapes, les préfets, les gouverneurs, les grands juges, les trésoriers, les conseillers, les légistes, et tous les magistrats des provinces, pour la dédicace de la statue que Nebucadnetsar, le roi, avait dressée ; et ils se tinrent devant la statue que Nebucadnetsar avait dressée.
  
  4 Et un héraut cria avec force : Il vous est ordonné, peuples, peuplades, et langues :
  
  5 Aussitôt que vous entendrez le son du cor, de la flûte, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la musette, et toute espèce de musique, vous vous prosternerez et vous adorerez la statue d'or que Nebucadnetsar, le roi, a dressée ;
  
  6 et quiconque ne se prosternera pas et n'adorera pas, sera jeté à l'heure même au milieu d'une fournaise de feu ardent.
  
  7 C'est pourquoi, au moment même où tous les peuples entendirent le son du cor, de la flûte, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, et toute espèce de musique, tous les peuples, peuplades et langues, se prosternèrent et adorèrent la statue d'or que Nebucadnetsar, le roi, avait dressée.
  
  8 A cause de cela, en ce même moment, des hommes chaldéens s'approchèrent et accusèrent les Juifs.
  
  9 Ils prirent la parole et dirent au roi Nebucadnetsar : O roi, vis à jamais !
  
  10 Toi, ô roi, tu as donné ordre que tout homme qui entendrait le son du cor, de la flûte, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la musette, et toute espèce de musique, se prosterne et adore la statue d'or,
  
  11 et que quiconque ne se prosternerait pas et n'adorerait pas, serait jeté au milieu d'une fournaise de feu ardent.
  
  12 Il y a des hommes juifs, que tu as établis sur les services de la province de Babylone, Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego : ces hommes ne tiennent pas compte de toi, ô roi ; ils ne servent pas tes dieux, et la statue d'or que tu as dressée ils ne l'adorent pas.
  
  13 Alors Nebucadnetsar, en colère et en fureur, commanda d'amener Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego ; alors on amena ces hommes devant le roi.
  
  14 Nebucadnetsar prit la parole et leur dit : Est-ce à dessein, Shadrac, Méshac, et Abed-Nego, que vous ne servez pas mon dieu, et que vous n'adorez pas la statue d'or que j'ai dressée ?
  
  15 Maintenant, si, au moment où vous entendrez le son du cor, de la flûte, de la cithare, de la sambuque, du psaltérion, de la musette, et toute espèce de musique, vous êtes prêts à vous prosterner et à adorer la statue que j'ai faite... ; mais si vous ne l'adorez pas, à l'instant même vous serez jetés au milieu de la fournaise de feu ardent. Et qui est le Dieu qui vous délivrera de ma main ?
  
  16 Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego répondirent et dirent au roi : Nebucadnetsar, il n'est pas nécessaire que nous te répondions sur ce sujet.
  
  17 S'il en est comme tu dis, notre Dieu que nous servons peut nous délivrer de la fournaise de feu ardent, et il nous délivrera de ta main, ô roi !
  
  18 Et sinon, sache, ô roi, que nous ne servirons pas tes dieux, et que nous n'adorerons pas la statue d'or que tu as dressée.
  
  19 Alors Nebucadnetsar fut rempli de fureur, et l'apparence de son visage fut changée envers Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego. il prit la parole et commanda de chauffer la fournaise sept fois plus qu'on n'était accoutumé de la chauffer ;
  
  20 et il commanda aux hommes les plus vaillants de son armée, de lier Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego, et de les jeter dans la fournaise de feu ardent.
  
  21 Alors ces hommes furent liés dans leurs caleçons, leurs tuniques, et leurs manteaux et leurs vêtements, et jetés au milieu de la fournaise de feu ardent.
  
  22 Parce que la parole du roi était rigoureuse et la fournaise extrêmement chauffée, la flamme du feu tua ces hommes qui avaient fait monter Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego ;
  
  23 et ces trois hommes, Shadrac, Méshac, et Abed-Nego, tombèrent liés au milieu de la fournaise de feu ardent.
  
  24 Alors le roi Nebucadnetsar, consterné, se leva précipitamment et prit la parole et dit à ses conseillers : N'avons-nous pas jeté au milieu du feu trois hommes liés ? Ils répondirent et dirent au roi : Certainement, ô roi !
  
  25 Il répondit et dit : Voici, je vois quatre hommes déliés, se promenant au milieu du feu, et ils n'ont aucun mal ; et l'aspect du quatrième est semblable à un fils de Dieu.
  
  26 Alors Nebucadnetsar s'approcha de l'ouverture de la fournaise de feu ardent ; il prit la parole et dit : Shadrac, Méchac et Abed-Nego, serviteurs du Dieu Très-haut, sortez et venez ! Alors Shadrac, Méchac et Abed-Nego sortirent du milieu du feu.
  
  27 Et les satrapes, les préfets, les gouverneurs, et les conseillers du roi, qui étaient assemblés, virent ces hommes sur le corps desquels le feu n'avait eu aucune puissance : les cheveux de leur tête n'avaient pas été brûlés, et leurs caleçons n'avaient pas changé, et l'odeur du feu n'avait pas passé sur eux.
  
  28 Nebucadnetsar prit la parole et dit : Béni soit le Dieu de Shadrac, de Méshac et d'Abed-Nego, qui a envoyé son ange et a sauvé ses serviteurs qui se sont confiés en lui, et ont changé la parole du roi, et ont livré leurs corps, afin de ne servir et n'adorer aucun autre dieu que leur Dieu.
  
  29 Et de par moi l'ordre est donné qu'en tout peuple, peuplade, et langue, quiconque parlera mal du Dieu de Shadrac, de Méshac et d'Abed-Nego, sera mis en pièces, et sa maison sera réduite en un tas d'immondices, parce qu'il n'y a pas d'autre Dieu qui puisse sauver ainsi.
  
  30 Alors le roi éleva Shadrac, Méshac et Abed-Nego dans la province de Babylone.

  1 Au reste donc, frères, nous vous prions et nous vous exhortons par le Seigneur Jésus, pour que, comme vous avez reçu de nous de quelle manière il faut que vous marchiez et plaisiez à Dieu, comme aussi vous marchez, vous y abondiez de plus en plus.
  
  2 Car vous savez quels commandements nous vous avons donnés par le Seigneur Jésus.
  
  3 Car c'est ici la volonté de Dieu, votre sainteté, que vous vous absteniez de la fornication,
  
  4 que chacun de vous sache posséder son propre vase en sainteté et en honneur,
  
  5 dans la passion de la convoitise comme font les nations aussi qui ne connaissent pas Dieu ;
  
  6 que personne ne circonvienne son frère ni ne lui fasse tort dans l'affaire, parce que le Seigneur est le vengeur de toutes ces choses, comme aussi nous vous l'avons dit précédemment et affirmé.
  
  7 Car Dieu ne nous a pas appelés à l'impureté, mais dans la sainteté.
  
  8 C'est pourquoi celui qui méprise, ne méprise pas l'homme, mais Dieu, qui vous a aussi donné son Esprit Saint.
  
  9 Or, quant à l'amour fraternel, vous n'avez pas besoin que je vous en écrive ; car vous-mêmes, vous êtes enseignés de Dieu à vous aimer l'un l'autre ;
  
  10 car aussi c'est ce que vous faites à l'égard de tous les frères qui sont dans toute la Macédoine ; mais nous vous exhortons, frères, a y abonder de plus en plus,
  
  11 et à vous appliquer à vivre paisiblement, à faire vos propres affaires et à travailler de vos propres mains, ainsi que nous vous l'avons ordonné,
  
  12 afin que vous marchiez honorablement envers ceux de dehors et que vous n'ayez besoin de personne.
  
  13 Or nous ne voulons pas, frères, que vous soyez dans l'ignorance à l'égard de ceux qui dorment, afin que vous ne soyez pas affligés comme les autres qui n'ont pas d'espérance.
  
  14 Car si nous croyons que Jésus mourut et qu'il est ressuscité, de même aussi, avec lui, Dieu amènera ceux qui se sont endormis par Jésus.
  
  15 (Car nous vous disons ceci par la parole du Seigneur : que nous, les vivants, qui demeurons jusqu'à la venue du Seigneur, nous ne devancerons aucunement ceux qui se sont endormis.
  
  16 Car le Seigneur lui-même, avec un cri de commandement, avec une voix d'archange et avec la trompette de Dieu, descendra du ciel ; et les morts en Christ ressusciteront premièrement ;
  
  17 puis nous, les vivants qui demeurons, nous seront ravis ensemble avec eux dans les nuées à la rencontre du Seigneur, en l'air : et ainsi nous serons toujours avec le Seigneur.
  
  18 Consolez-vous donc l'un l'autre par ces paroles.)

  1 It happened after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
  
  2 Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, "Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near to my house; and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money."
  
  3 Naboth said to Ahab, "May Yahweh forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!"
  
  4 Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers." He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
  
  5 But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, "Why is your spirit so sad, that you eat no bread?"
  
  6 He said to her, "Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.' He answered, 'I will not give you my vineyard.'"
  
  7 Jezebel his wife said to him, "Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite."
  
  8 So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, who lived with Naboth.
  
  9 She wrote in the letters, saying, "Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.
  
  10 Set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, 'You cursed God and the king!' Then carry him out, and stone him to death."
  
  11 The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.
  
  12 They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.
  
  13 The two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him. The base fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king!" Then they carried him out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones.
  
  14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth has been stoned, and is dead."
  
  15 It happened, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, "Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead."
  
  16 It happened, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.
  
  17 The word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
  
  18 "Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwells in Samaria. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it.
  
  19 You shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says Yahweh, "Have you killed and also taken possession?"' You shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says Yahweh, "In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours."'"
  
  20 Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, my enemy?" He answered, "I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh.
  
  21 Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
  
  22 I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Israel to sin."
  
  23 Yahweh also spoke of Jezebel, saying, "The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.
  
  24 The dogs will eat he who dies of Ahab in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field."
  
  25 But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.
  
  26 He did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel.
  
  27 It happened, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.
  
  28 The word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
  
  29 "See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son's days will I bring the evil on his house."

  1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits, and its breadth six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
  
  2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
  
  3 Then the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
  
  4 Then the herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, peoples, nations, and languages,
  
  5 that whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up;
  
  6 and whoever doesn't fall down and worship shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
  
  7 Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
  
  8 Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and brought accusation against the Jews.
  
  9 They answered Nebuchadnezzar the king, O king, live for ever.
  
  10 You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image;
  
  11 and whoever doesn't fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
  
  12 There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not respected you. They don't serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.
  
  13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in [his] rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.
  
  14 Nebuchadnezzar answered them, Is it on purpose, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you don't serve my god, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
  
  15 Now if you are ready whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, [well]: but if you don't worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands?
  
  16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
  
  17 If it be [so], our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
  
  18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.
  
  19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his appearance was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: [therefore] he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
  
  20 He commanded certain mighty men who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, [and] to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
  
  21 Then these men were bound in their pants, their tunics, and their mantles, and their [other] garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
  
  22 Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
  
  23 These three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
  
  24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste: he spoke and said to his counselors, Didn't we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered the king, True, O king.
  
  25 He answered, Look, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are unharmed; and the aspect of the fourth is like a son of the gods.
  
  26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace: he spoke and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God, come forth, and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came forth out of the midst of the fire.
  
  27 The satraps, the deputies, and the governors, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power on their bodies, nor was the hair of their head singed, neither were their pants changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them.
  
  28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
  
  29 Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak anything evil against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill; because there is no other god who is able to deliver after this sort.
  
  30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

  1 Finally then, brothers, we beg and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, that you abound more and more.
  
  2 For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
  
  3 For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality,
  
  4 that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
  
  5 not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don't know God;
  
  6 that no one should take advantage of and wrong a brother or sister in this matter; because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified.
  
  7 For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification.
  
  8 Therefore he who rejects this doesn't reject man, but God, who has also given his Holy Spirit to you.
  
  9 But concerning brotherly love, you have no need that one write to you. For you yourselves are taught by God to love one another,
  
  10 for indeed you do it toward all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, that you abound more and more;
  
  11 and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we instructed you;
  
  12 that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.
  
  13 But we don't want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don't grieve like the rest, who have no hope.
  
  14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
  
  15 For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep.
  
  16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first,
  
  17 then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.

  1 וַיְהִ֗י אַחַר֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה כֶּ֧רֶם הָיָ֛ה לְנָב֥וֹת הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִ֖י אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּיִזְרְעֶ֑אל אֵ֚צֶל הֵיכַ֣ל אַחְאָ֔ב מֶ֖לֶךְ שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃
  
  2 וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אַחְאָ֣ב אֶל־נָב֣וֹת ׀ לֵאמֹר֩ ׀ תְּנָה־לִּ֨י אֶֽת־כַּרְמְךָ֜ וִֽיהִי־לִ֣י לְגַן־יָרָ֗ק כִּ֣י ה֤וּא קָרוֹב֙ אֵ֣צֶל בֵּיתִ֔י וְאֶתְּנָ֤ה לְךָ֙ תַּחְתָּ֔יו כֶּ֖רֶם ט֣וֹב מִמֶּ֑נּוּ אִ֚ם ט֣וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ אֶתְּנָה־לְךָ֥ כֶ֖סֶף מְחִ֥יר זֶֽה׃
  
  3 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר נָב֖וֹת אֶל־אַחְאָ֑ב חָלִ֤ילָה לִּי֙ מֵֽיהוָ֔ה מִתִּתִּ֛י אֶת־נַחֲלַ֥ת אֲבֹתַ֖י לָֽךְ׃
  
  4 וַיָּבֹא֩ אַחְאָ֨ב אֶל־בֵּית֜וֹ סַ֣ר וְזָעֵ֗ף עַל־הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֣ר אֵלָ֗יו נָבוֹת֙ הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִ֔י וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לֹֽא־אֶתֵּ֥ן לְךָ֖ אֶת־נַחֲלַ֣ת אֲבוֹתָ֑י וַיִּשְׁכַּב֙ עַל־מִטָּת֔וֹ וַיַּסֵּ֥ב אֶת־פָּנָ֖יו וְלֹֽא־אָ֥כַל לָֽחֶם׃
  
  5 וַתָּבֹ֥א אֵלָ֖יו אִיזֶ֣בֶל אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ וַתְּדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלָ֗יו מַה־זֶּה֙ רוּחֲךָ֣ סָרָ֔ה וְאֵינְךָ֖ אֹכֵ֥ל לָֽחֶם׃
  
  6 וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלֶ֗יהָ כִּֽי־אֲ֠דַבֵּר אֶל־נָב֨וֹת הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִ֜י וָאֹ֣מַר ל֗וֹ תְּנָה־לִּ֤י אֶֽת־כַּרְמְךָ֙ בְּכֶ֔סֶף א֚וֹ אִם־חָפֵ֣ץ אַתָּ֔ה אֶתְּנָה־לְךָ֥ כֶ֖רֶם תַּחְתָּ֑יו וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לֹֽא־אֶתֵּ֥ן לְךָ֖ אֶת־כַּרְמִֽי׃
  
  7 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ אִיזֶ֣בֶל אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ אַתָּ֕ה עַתָּ֛ה תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה מְלוּכָ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל ק֤וּם אֱכָל־לֶ֙חֶם֙ וְיִטַ֣ב לִבֶּ֔ךָ אֲנִי֙ אֶתֵּ֣ן לְךָ֔ אֶת־כֶּ֖רֶם נָב֥וֹת הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִֽי׃
  
  8 וַתִּכְתֹּ֤ב סְפָרִים֙ בְּשֵׁ֣ם אַחְאָ֔ב וַתַּחְתֹּ֖ם בְּחֹתָמ֑וֹ וַתִּשְׁלַ֣ח *הספרים **סְפָרִ֗ים אֶל־הַזְקֵנִ֤ים וְאֶל־הַֽחֹרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּעִיר֔וֹ הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים אֶת־נָבֽוֹת׃
  
  9 וַתִּכְתֹּ֥ב בַּסְּפָרִ֖ים לֵאמֹ֑ר קִֽרְאוּ־צ֔וֹם וְהוֹשִׁ֥יבוּ אֶת־נָב֖וֹת בְּרֹ֥אשׁ הָעָֽם׃
  
  10 וְ֠הוֹשִׁיבוּ שְׁנַ֨יִם אֲנָשִׁ֥ים בְּנֵֽי־בְלִיַּעַל֮ נֶגְדּוֹ֒ וִיעִדֻ֣הוּ לֵאמֹ֔ר בֵּרַ֥כְתָּ אֱלֹהִ֖ים וָמֶ֑לֶךְ וְהוֹצִיאֻ֥הוּ וְסִקְלֻ֖הוּ וְיָמֹֽת׃
  
  11 וַיַּעֲשׂוּ֩ אַנְשֵׁ֨י עִיר֜וֹ הַזְּקֵנִ֣ים וְהַחֹרִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר הַיֹּֽשְׁבִים֙ בְּעִיר֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר שָׁלְחָ֥ה אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם אִיזָ֑בֶל כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר כָּתוּב֙ בַּסְּפָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁלְחָ֖ה אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃
  
  12 קָרְא֖וּ צ֑וֹם וְהֹשִׁ֥יבוּ אֶת־נָב֖וֹת בְּרֹ֥אשׁ הָעָֽם׃
  
  13 וַ֠יָּבֹאוּ שְׁנֵ֨י הָאֲנָשִׁ֥ים בְּנֵֽי־בְלִיַּעַל֮ וַיֵּשְׁב֣וּ נֶגְדּוֹ֒ וַיְעִדֻהוּ֩ אַנְשֵׁ֨י הַבְּלִיַּ֜עַל אֶת־נָב֗וֹת נֶ֤גֶד הָעָם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בֵּרַ֥ךְ נָב֛וֹת אֱלֹהִ֖ים וָמֶ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּצִאֻ֙הוּ֙ מִח֣וּץ לָעִ֔יר וַיִּסְקְלֻ֥הוּ בָאֲבָנִ֖ים וַיָּמֹֽת׃
  
  14 וַֽיִּשְׁלְח֖וּ אֶל־אִיזֶ֣בֶל לֵאמֹ֑ר סֻקַּ֥ל נָב֖וֹת וַיָּמֹֽת׃
  
  15 וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ אִיזֶ֔בֶל כִּֽי־סֻקַּ֥ל נָב֖וֹת וַיָּמֹ֑ת וַתֹּ֨אמֶר אִיזֶ֜בֶל אֶל־אַחְאָ֗ב ק֣וּם רֵ֞שׁ אֶת־כֶּ֣רֶם ׀ נָב֣וֹת הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִ֗י אֲשֶׁ֤ר מֵאֵן֙ לָתֶת־לְךָ֣ בְכֶ֔סֶף כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין נָב֛וֹת חַ֖י כִּי־מֵֽת׃
  
  16 וַיְהִ֛י כִּשְׁמֹ֥עַ אַחְאָ֖ב כִּ֣י מֵ֣ת נָב֑וֹת וַיָּ֣קָם אַחְאָ֗ב לָרֶ֛דֶת אֶל־כֶּ֛רֶם נָב֥וֹת הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִ֖י לְרִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃
  
  17 וַיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־אֵלִיָּ֥הוּ הַתִּשְׁבִּ֖י לֵאמֹֽר׃
  
  18 ק֣וּם רֵ֗ד לִקְרַ֛את אַחְאָ֥ב מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּשֹׁמְר֑וֹן הִנֵּה֙ בְּכֶ֣רֶם נָב֔וֹת אֲשֶׁר־יָ֥רַד שָׁ֖ם לְרִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃
  
  19 וְדִבַּרְתָּ֨ אֵלָ֜יו לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הֲרָצַ֖חְתָּ וְגַם־יָרָ֑שְׁתָּ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֨ אֵלָ֜יו לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה בִּמְק֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר לָקְק֤וּ הַכְּלָבִים֙ אֶת־דַּ֣ם נָב֔וֹת יָלֹ֧קּוּ הַכְּלָבִ֛ים אֶת־דָּמְךָ֖ גַּם־אָֽתָּה׃
  
  20 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אַחְאָב֙ אֶל־אֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ הַֽמְצָאתַ֖נִי אֹיְבִ֑י וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מָצָ֔אתִי יַ֚עַן הִתְמַכֶּרְךָ֔ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃
  
  21 הִנְנִ֨י *מבי **מֵבִ֤יא אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ רָעָ֔ה וּבִעַרְתִּ֖י אַחֲרֶ֑יךָ וְהִכְרַתִּ֤י לְאַחְאָב֙ מַשְׁתִּ֣ין בְּקִ֔יר וְעָצ֥וּר וְעָז֖וּב בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
  
  22 וְנָתַתִּ֣י אֶת־בֵּיתְךָ֗ כְּבֵית֙ יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־נְבָ֔ט וּכְבֵ֖ית בַּעְשָׁ֣א בֶן־אֲחִיָּ֑ה אֶל־הַכַּ֙עַס֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִכְעַ֔סְתָּ וַֽתַּחֲטִ֖א אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
  
  23 וְגַ֨ם־לְאִיזֶ֔בֶל דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר הַכְּלָבִ֛ים יֹאכְל֥וּ אֶת־אִיזֶ֖בֶל בְּחֵ֥ל יִזְרְעֶֽאל׃
  
  24 הַמֵּ֤ת לְאַחְאָב֙ בָּעִ֔יר יֹאכְל֖וּ הַכְּלָבִ֑ים וְהַמֵּת֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה יֹאכְל֖וּ ע֥וֹף הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃
  
  25 רַ֚ק לֹֽא־הָיָ֣ה כְאַחְאָ֔ב אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִתְמַכֵּ֔ר לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר־הֵסַ֥תָּה אֹת֖וֹ אִיזֶ֥בֶל אִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃
  
  26 וַיַּתְעֵ֣ב מְאֹ֔ד לָלֶ֖כֶת אַחֲרֵ֣י הַגִּלֻּלִ֑ים כְּכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשׂ֣וּ הָאֱמֹרִ֔י אֲשֶׁר֙ הוֹרִ֣ישׁ יְהוָ֔ה מִפְּנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
  
  27 וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ אַחְאָ֜ב אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֤ים הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ וַיִּקְרַ֣ע בְּגָדָ֔יו וַיָּֽשֶׂם־שַׂ֥ק עַל־בְּשָׂר֖וֹ וַיָּצ֑וֹם וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב בַּשָּׂ֔ק וַיְהַלֵּ֖ךְ אַֽט׃
  
  28 וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־אֵלִיָּ֥הוּ הַתִּשְׁבִּ֖י לֵאמֹֽר׃
  
  29 הֲ‍ֽרָאִ֔יתָ כִּֽי־נִכְנַ֥ע אַחְאָ֖ב מִלְּפָנָ֑י יַ֜עַן כִּֽי־נִכְנַ֣ע מִפָּנַ֗י לֹֽא־*אבי **אָבִ֤יא הָֽרָעָה֙ בְּיָמָ֔יו בִּימֵ֣י בְנ֔וֹ אָבִ֥יא הָרָעָ֖ה עַל־בֵּיתֽוֹ׃

  2 וּנְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֡א שְׁלַ֡ח לְמִכְנַ֣שׁ ׀ לַֽאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֡א סִגְנַיָּ֣א וּֽפַחֲוָתָ֡א אֲדַרְגָּזְרַיָּא֩ גְדָ֨בְרַיָּ֤א דְּתָבְרַיָּא֙ תִּפְתָּיֵ֔א וְכֹ֖ל שִׁלְטֹנֵ֣י מְדִֽינָתָ֑א לְמֵתֵא֙ לַחֲנֻכַּ֣ת צַלְמָ֔א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֥ר מַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  3 בֵּאדַ֡יִן מִֽתְכַּנְּשִׁ֡ין אֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֡א סִגְנַיָּ֣א וּֽפַחֲוָתָ֡א אֲדַרְגָּזְרַיָּ֣א גְדָבְרַיָּא֩ דְּתָ֨בְרַיָּ֜א תִּפְתָּיֵ֗א וְכֹל֙ שִׁלְטֹנֵ֣י מְדִֽינָתָ֔א לַחֲנֻכַּ֣ת צַלְמָ֔א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֑א *וקאמין **וְקָֽיְמִין֙ לָקֳבֵ֣ל צַלְמָ֔א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּֽר׃
  
  4 וְכָרוֹזָ֖א קָרֵ֣א בְחָ֑יִל לְכ֤וֹן אָֽמְרִין֙ עַֽמְמַיָּ֔א אֻמַּיָּ֖א וְלִשָּׁנַיָּֽא׃
  
  5 בְּעִדָּנָ֡א דִּֽי־תִשְׁמְע֡וּן קָ֣ל קַרְנָ֣א מַ֠שְׁרוֹקִיתָא *קיתרוס **קַתְר֨וֹס סַבְּכָ֤א פְּסַנְתֵּרִין֙ סוּמְפֹּ֣נְיָ֔ה וְכֹ֖ל זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֑א תִּפְּל֤וּן וְתִסְגְּדוּן֙ לְצֶ֣לֶם דַּהֲבָ֔א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֥ר מַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  6 וּמַן־דִּי־לָ֥א יִפֵּ֖ל וְיִסְגֻּ֑ד בַּהּ־שַׁעֲתָ֣א יִתְרְמֵ֔א לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
  
  7 כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֡ה בֵּהּ־זִמְנָ֡א כְּדִ֣י שָֽׁמְעִ֣ין כָּֽל־עַמְמַיָּ֡א קָ֣ל קַרְנָא֩ מַשְׁר֨וֹקִיתָ֜א *קיתרס **קַתְר֤וֹס שַׂבְּכָא֙ פְּסַנְטֵרִ֔ין וְכֹ֖ל זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֑א נָֽפְלִ֨ין כָּֽל־עַֽמְמַיָּ֜א אֻמַיָּ֣א וְלִשָּׁנַיָּ֗א סָֽגְדִין֙ לְצֶ֣לֶם דַּהֲבָ֔א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ים נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֥ר מַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  8 כָּל־קֳבֵ֤ל דְּנָה֙ בֵּהּ־זִמְנָ֔א קְרִ֖בוּ גֻּבְרִ֣ין כַּשְׂדָּאִ֑ין וַאֲכַ֥לוּ קַרְצֵיה֖וֹן דִּ֥י יְהוּדָיֵֽא׃
  
  9 עֲנוֹ֙ וְאָ֣מְרִ֔ין לִנְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר מַלְכָּ֑א מַלְכָּ֖א לְעָלְמִ֥ין חֱיִֽי׃
  
  10 *אנתה **אַ֣נְתְּ מַלְכָּא֮ שָׂ֣מְתָּ טְּעֵם֒ דִּ֣י כָל־אֱנָ֡שׁ דִּֽי־יִשְׁמַ֡ע קָ֣ל קַרְנָ֣א מַ֠שְׁרֹקִיתָא *קיתרס **קַתְר֨וֹס שַׂבְּכָ֤א פְסַנְתֵּרִין֙ *וסיפניה **וְסוּפֹּ֣נְיָ֔ה וְכֹ֖ל זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֑א יִפֵּ֥ל וְיִסְגֻּ֖ד לְצֶ֥לֶם דַּהֲבָֽא׃
  
  11 וּמַן־דִּי־לָ֥א יִפֵּ֖ל וְיִסְגֻּ֑ד יִתְרְמֵ֕א לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
  
  12 אִיתַ֞י גֻּבְרִ֣ין יְהוּדָאיִ֗ן דִּֽי־מַנִּ֤יתָ יָתְהוֹן֙ עַל־עֲבִידַת֙ מְדִינַ֣ת בָּבֶ֔ל שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֗ךְ לָא־שָׂ֨מֽוּ *עליך **עֲלָ֤ךְ מַלְכָּא֙ טְעֵ֔ם *לאלהיך **לֵֽאלָהָךְ֙ לָ֣א פָלְחִ֔ין וּלְצֶ֧לֶם דַּהֲבָ֛א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ימְתָּ לָ֥א סָגְדִֽין׃
  
  13 בֵּאדַ֤יִן נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּר֙ בִּרְגַ֣ז וַחֲמָ֔ה אֲמַר֙ לְהַיְתָיָ֔ה לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ בֵּאדַ֙יִן֙ גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֔ךְ הֵיתָ֖יוּ קֳדָ֥ם מַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  14 עָנֵ֤ה נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּר֙ וְאָמַ֣ר לְה֔וֹן הַצְדָּ֕א שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ לֵֽאלָהַ֗י לָ֤א אִֽיתֵיכוֹן֙ פָּֽלְחִ֔ין וּלְצֶ֧לֶם דַּהֲבָ֛א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ימֶת לָ֥א סָֽגְדִֽין׃
  
  15 כְּעַ֞ן הֵ֧ן אִֽיתֵיכ֣וֹן עֲתִידִ֗ין דִּ֣י בְעִדָּנָ֡א דִּֽי־תִשְׁמְע֡וּן קָ֣ל קַרְנָ֣א מַשְׁרוֹקִיתָ֣א *קיתרס **קַתְר֣וֹס שַׂבְּכָ֡א פְּסַנְתֵּרִין֩ וְסוּמְפֹּ֨נְיָ֜ה וְכֹ֣ל ׀ זְנֵ֣י זְמָרָ֗א תִּפְּל֣וּן וְתִסְגְּדוּן֮ לְצַלְמָ֣א דִֽי־עַבְדֵת֒ וְהֵן֙ לָ֣א תִסְגְּד֔וּן בַּהּ־שַׁעֲתָ֣ה תִתְרְמ֔וֹן לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּ֑א וּמַן־ה֣וּא אֱלָ֔הּ דֵּ֥י יְשֵֽׁיזְבִנְכ֖וֹן מִן־יְדָֽי׃
  
  16 עֲנ֗וֹ שַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹ וְאָמְרִ֖ין לְמַלְכָּ֑א נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר לָֽא־חַשְׁחִ֨ין אֲנַ֧חְנָה עַל־דְּנָ֛ה פִּתְגָ֖ם לַהֲתָבוּתָֽךְ׃
  
  17 הֵ֣ן אִיתַ֗י אֱלָהַ֙נָא֙ דִּֽי־אֲנַ֣חְנָא פָֽלְחִ֔ין יָכִ֖ל לְשֵׁיזָבוּתַ֑נָא מִן־אַתּ֨וּן נוּרָ֧א יָקִֽדְתָּ֛א וּמִן־יְדָ֥ךְ מַלְכָּ֖א יְשֵׁיזִֽב׃
  
  18 וְהֵ֣ן לָ֔א יְדִ֥יעַ לֶהֱוֵא־לָ֖ךְ מַלְכָּ֑א דִּ֤י *לאלהיך **לֵֽאלָהָךְ֙ לָא־*איתינא **אִיתַ֣נָא פָֽלְחִ֔ין וּלְצֶ֧לֶם דַּהֲבָ֛א דִּ֥י הֲקֵ֖ימְתָּ לָ֥א נִסְגֻּֽד׃
  
  19 בֵּאדַ֨יִן נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֜ר הִתְמְלִ֣י חֱמָ֗א וּצְלֵ֤ם אַנְפּ֙וֹהִי֙ *אשתנו **אֶשְׁתַּנִּ֔י עַל־שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ עָנֵ֤ה וְאָמַר֙ לְמֵזֵ֣א לְאַתּוּנָ֔א חַ֨ד־שִׁבְעָ֔ה עַ֛ל דִּ֥י חֲזֵ֖ה לְמֵזְיֵֽהּ׃
  
  20 וּלְגֻבְרִ֤ין גִּבָּֽרֵי־חַ֙יִל֙ דִּ֣י בְחַיְלֵ֔הּ אֲמַר֙ לְכַפָּתָ֔ה לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ לְמִרְמֵ֕א לְאַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
  
  21 בֵּאדַ֜יִן גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֗ךְ כְּפִ֙תוּ֙ בְּסַרְבָּלֵיהוֹן֙ *פטישיהון **פַּטְּשֵׁיה֔וֹן וְכַרְבְּלָתְה֖וֹן וּלְבֻשֵׁיה֑וֹן וּרְמִ֕יו לְגֽוֹא־אַתּ֥וּן נוּרָ֖א יָקִֽדְתָּֽא׃
  
  22 כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֗ה מִן־דִּ֞י מִלַּ֤ת מַלְכָּא֙ מַחְצְפָ֔ה וְאַתּוּנָ֖א אֵזֵ֣ה יַתִּ֑ירָא גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֗ךְ דִּ֤י הַסִּ֙קוּ֙ לְשַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹ קַטִּ֣ל הִמּ֔וֹן שְׁבִיבָ֖א דִּ֥י נוּרָֽא׃
  
  23 וְגֻבְרַיָּ֤א אִלֵּךְ֙ תְּלָ֣תֵּה֔וֹן שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֖ךְ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֑וֹ נְפַ֛לוּ לְגֽוֹא־אַתּוּן־נוּרָ֥א יָֽקִדְתָּ֖א מְכַפְּתִֽין׃
  
  24 אֱדַ֙יִן֙ נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֔א תְּוַ֖הּ וְקָ֣ם בְּהִתְבְּהָלָ֑ה עָנֵ֨ה וְאָמַ֜ר לְהַדָּֽבְר֗וֹהִי הֲלָא֩ גֻבְרִ֨ין תְּלָתָ֜א רְמֵ֤ינָא לְגוֹא־נוּרָא֙ מְכַפְּתִ֔ין עָנַ֤יִן וְאָמְרִין֙ לְמַלְכָּ֔א יַצִּיבָ֖א מַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  25 עָנֵ֣ה וְאָמַ֗ר הָֽא־אֲנָ֨ה חָזֵ֜ה גֻּבְרִ֣ין אַרְבְּעָ֗ה שְׁרַ֙יִן֙ מַהְלְכִ֣ין בְּגֽוֹא־נוּרָ֔א וַחֲבָ֖ל לָא־אִיתַ֣י בְּה֑וֹן וְרֵוֵהּ֙ דִּ֣י *רביעיא **רְֽבִיעָאָ֔ה דָּמֵ֖ה לְבַר־אֱלָהִֽין׃
  
  26 בֵּאדַ֜יִן קְרֵ֣ב נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֗ר לִתְרַע֮ אַתּ֣וּן נוּרָ֣א יָקִֽדְתָּא֒ עָנֵ֣ה וְאָמַ֗ר שַׁדְרַ֨ךְ מֵישַׁ֧ךְ וַעֲבֵד־נְג֛וֹ עַבְד֛וֹהִי דִּֽי־אֱלָהָ֥א *עליא **עִלָּאָ֖ה פֻּ֣קוּ וֶאֱת֑וֹ בֵּאדַ֣יִן נָֽפְקִ֗ין שַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֛ךְ וַעֲבֵ֥ד נְג֖וֹ מִן־גּ֥וֹא נוּרָֽא׃
  
  27 וּ֠מִֽתְכַּנְּשִׁין אֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנַיָּ֞א סִגְנַיָּ֣א וּפַחֲוָתָא֮ וְהַדָּבְרֵ֣י מַלְכָּא֒ חָזַ֣יִן לְגֻבְרַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֡ךְ דִּי֩ לָֽא־שְׁלֵ֨ט נוּרָ֜א בְּגֶשְׁמְה֗וֹן וּשְׂעַ֤ר רֵֽאשְׁהוֹן֙ לָ֣א הִתְחָרַ֔ךְ וְסָרְבָּלֵיה֖וֹן לָ֣א שְׁנ֑וֹ וְרֵ֣יחַ נ֔וּר לָ֥א עֲדָ֖ת בְּהֽוֹן׃
  
  28 עָנֵ֨ה נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֜ר וְאָמַ֗ר בְּרִ֤יךְ אֱלָהֲהוֹן֙ דִּֽי־שַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹ דִּֽי־שְׁלַ֤ח מַלְאֲכֵהּ֙ וְשֵׁיזִ֣ב לְעַבְד֔וֹהִי דִּ֥י הִתְרְחִ֖צוּ עֲל֑וֹהִי וּמִלַּ֤ת מַלְכָּא֙ שַׁנִּ֔יו וִיהַ֣בוּ *גשמיהון **גֶשְׁמְה֗וֹן דִּ֠י לָֽא־יִפְלְח֤וּן וְלָֽא־יִסְגְּדוּן֙ לְכָל־אֱלָ֔הּ לָהֵ֖ן לֵאלָֽהֲהֽוֹן׃
  
  29 וּמִנִּי֮ שִׂ֣ים טְעֵם֒ דִּי֩ כָל־עַ֨ם אֻמָּ֜ה וְלִשָּׁ֗ן דִּֽי־יֵאמַ֤ר *שלה **שָׁלוּ֙ עַ֣ל אֱלָהֲה֗וֹן דִּֽי־שַׁדְרַ֤ךְ מֵישַׁךְ֙ וַעֲבֵ֣ד נְג֔וֹא הַדָּמִ֣ין יִתְעֲבֵ֔ד וּבַיְתֵ֖הּ נְוָלִ֣י יִשְׁתַּוֵּ֑ה כָּל־קֳבֵ֗ל דִּ֣י לָ֤א אִיתַי֙ אֱלָ֣ה אָחֳרָ֔ן דִּֽי־יִכֻּ֥ל לְהַצָּלָ֖ה כִּדְנָֽה׃
  
  30 בֵּאדַ֣יִן מַלְכָּ֗א הַצְלַ֛ח לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ מֵישַׁ֛ךְ וַעֲבֵ֥ד נְג֖וֹ בִּמְדִינַ֥ת בָּבֶֽל׃

  1 Λοιπὸν οὖν, ἀδελφοί, ἐρωτῶμεν ὑμᾶς καὶ παρακαλοῦμεν ἐν κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ, ἵνα καθὼς παρελάβετε παρ’ ἡμῶν τὸ πῶς δεῖ ὑμᾶς περιπατεῖν καὶ ἀρέσκειν θεῷ, καθὼς καὶ περιπατεῖτε, ἵνα περισσεύητε μᾶλλον.
  
  2 οἴδατε γὰρ τίνας παραγγελίας ἐδώκαμεν ὑμῖν διὰ τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ.
  
  3 τοῦτο γάρ ἐστιν θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ, ὁ ἁγιασμὸς ὑμῶν, ἀπέχεσθαι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τῆς πορνείας,
  
  4 εἰδέναι ἕκαστον ὑμῶν τὸ ἑαυτοῦ σκεῦος κτᾶσθαι ἐν ἁγιασμῷ καὶ τιμῇ,
  
  5 μὴ ἐν πάθει ἐπιθυμίας καθάπερ καὶ τὰ ἔθνη τὰ μὴ εἰδότα τὸν θεόν,
  
  6 τὸ μὴ ὑπερβαίνειν καὶ πλεονεκτεῖν ἐν τῷ πράγματι τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, διότι ἔκδικος κύριος περὶ πάντων τούτων, καθὼς καὶ προείπαμεν ὑμῖν καὶ διεμαρτυράμεθα.
  
  7 οὐ γὰρ ἐκάλεσεν ἡμᾶς ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ ἀκαθαρσίᾳ ἀλλ’ ἐν ἁγιασμῷ.
  
  8 τοιγαροῦν ὁ ἀθετῶν οὐκ ἄνθρωπον ἀθετεῖ ἀλλὰ τὸν θεὸν τὸν καὶ διδόντα τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτοῦ τὸ ἅγιον εἰς ὑμᾶς.
  
  9 Περὶ δὲ τῆς φιλαδελφίας οὐ χρείαν ἔχετε γράφειν ὑμῖν, αὐτοὶ γὰρ ὑμεῖς θεοδίδακτοί ἐστε εἰς τὸ ἀγαπᾶν ἀλλήλους·
  
  10 καὶ γὰρ ποιεῖτε αὐτὸ εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς τοὺς ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Μακεδονίᾳ. παρακαλοῦμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, περισσεύειν μᾶλλον,
  
  11 καὶ φιλοτιμεῖσθαι ἡσυχάζειν καὶ πράσσειν τὰ ἴδια καὶ ἐργάζεσθαι ταῖς χερσὶν ὑμῶν, καθὼς ὑμῖν παρηγγείλαμεν,
  
  12 ἵνα περιπατῆτε εὐσχημόνως πρὸς τοὺς ἔξω καὶ μηδενὸς χρείαν ἔχητε.
  
  13 Οὐ θέλομεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀγνοεῖν, ἀδελφοί, περὶ τῶν κοιμωμένων, ἵνα μὴ λυπῆσθε καθὼς καὶ οἱ λοιποὶ οἱ μὴ ἔχοντες ἐλπίδα.
  
  14 εἰ γὰρ πιστεύομεν ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἀπέθανεν καὶ ἀνέστη, οὕτως καὶ ὁ θεὸς τοὺς κοιμηθέντας διὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἄξει σὺν αὐτῷ.
  
  15 τοῦτο γὰρ ὑμῖν λέγομεν ἐν λόγῳ κυρίου, ὅτι ἡμεῖς οἱ ζῶντες οἱ περιλειπόμενοι εἰς τὴν παρουσίαν τοῦ κυρίου οὐ μὴ φθάσωμεν τοὺς κοιμηθέντας·
  
  16 ὅτι αὐτὸς ὁ κύριος ἐν κελεύσματι, ἐν φωνῇ ἀρχαγγέλου καὶ ἐν σάλπιγγι θεοῦ, καταβήσεται ἀπ’ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ οἱ νεκροὶ ἐν Χριστῷ ἀναστήσονται πρῶτον,
  
  17 ἔπειτα ἡμεῖς οἱ ζῶντες οἱ περιλειπόμενοι ἅμα σὺν αὐτοῖς ἁρπαγησόμεθα ἐν νεφέλαις εἰς ἀπάντησιν τοῦ κυρίου εἰς ἀέρα· καὶ οὕτως πάντοτε σὺν κυρίῳ ἐσόμεθα.
  
  18 ὥστε παρακαλεῖτε ἀλλήλους ἐν τοῖς λόγοις τούτοις.
