- 2 Rois 7
  
  1 Et Élisée dit : Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel. Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Demain à cette heure-ci, la mesure de fleur de farine sera à un sicle, et les deux mesures d'orge à un sicle, à la porte de Samarie.
  
  2 Et le capitaine, sur la main duquel le roi s'appuyait, répondit à l'homme de Dieu, et dit : Voici, quand l'Éternel ferait des fenêtres aux cieux, cela arriverait-il ? Et Élisée dit : Voici, tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n'en mangeras pas.
  
  3 Et il y avait à l'entrée de la porte quatre hommes lépreux, et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : Pourquoi sommes-nous assis ici jusqu'à ce que nous mourions ?
  
  4 Si nous disons : Entrons dans la ville, la famine est dans la ville, et nous y mourrons ; et si nous restons assis ici, nous mourrons. Et maintenant, venez, et passons dans le camps des Syriens : s'ils nous laissent vivre, nous vivrons ; et s'ils nous font mourir, nous mourrons.
  
  5 Et ils se levèrent au crépuscule pour entrer dans le camps des Syriens ; et ils vinrent jusqu'au bout du camp des Syriens, et voici, il n'y avait personne.
  
  6 Car le Seigneur avait fait entendre dans le camp des Syriens un bruit de chars et un bruit de chevaux, le bruit d'une grande armée ; et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : Voici, le roi d'Israël a pris à sa solde contre nous les rois des Héthiens et les rois des Égyptiens, pour venir sur nous.
  
  7 Et ils se levèrent au crépuscule, et s'enfuirent ; et ils abandonnèrent leurs tentes, et leurs chevaux, et leurs ânes, le camp tel quel ; et ils s'enfuirent pour sauver leur vie.
  
  8 Et ces lépreux vinrent jusqu'au bout du camp ; et ils entrèrent dans une tente, et mangèrent et burent, et en emportèrent de l'argent, et de l'or, et des vêtements ; et ils s'en allèrent et les cachèrent. Et ils retournèrent, et entrèrent dans une autre tente et en emportèrent du butin, et ils s'en allèrent et le cachèrent.
  
  9 Et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : Nous ne faisons pas bien. Ce jour est un jour de bonnes nouvelles, et nous nous taisons. Si nous attendons jusqu'à la lumière du matin, l'iniquité nous trouvera. Et maintenant, venez, allons et rapportons-le à la maison du roi.
  
  10 Et ils vinrent et crièrent aux portiers de la ville, et leur rapportèrent, disant : Nous sommes venus dans le camp des Syriens ; et voici, il n'y avait personne, ni voix d'homme, seulement les chevaux attachés, et les ânes attachés, et les tentes comme elles étaient.
  
  11 Et les portiers le crièrent et le rapportèrent dans la maison du roi, à l'intérieur.
  
  12 Et le roi se leva de nuit, et dit à ses serviteurs : Je veux vous dire ce que les Syriens nous ont fait : ils savent que nous avons faim, et ils sont sortis du camp pour se cacher dans les champs, disant : Ils sortiront hors de la ville, et nous les prendrons vivants, et nous entrerons dans la ville.
  
  13 Et un de ses serviteurs répondit et dit : Qu'on prenne donc cinq des chevaux restants, qui demeurent de reste dans la ville ; voici, ils sont comme toute la multitude d'Israël qui est de reste en elle ; voici, ils sont comme toute la multitude d'Israël qui a péri. Envoyons-les, et nous verrons.
  
  14 Et ils prirent deux chars avec leurs chevaux, et le roi envoya après le camp des Syriens, disant : Allez et voyez.
  
  15 Et ils s'en allèrent après eux jusqu'au Jourdain ; et voici, tout le chemin était plein de vêtements et d'objets que les Syriens avaient jetés dans leur fuite précipitée ; et les messagers s'en retournèrent et le rapportèrent au roi.
  
  16 Et le peuple sortit, et pilla le camp des Syriens : et la mesure de fleur de farine fut à un sicle, et les deux mesures d'orge à un sicle, selon la parole de l'Éternel.
  
  17 Et le roi avait commis à la garde de la porte le capitaine sur la main duquel il s'appuyait ; et le peuple le foula aux pieds dans la porte, et il mourut, selon ce qu'avait dit l'homme de Dieu, ce qu'il avait dit quand le roi était descendu vers lui.
  
  18 Et il arriva selon la parole que l'homme de Dieu avait adressée au roi, disant : Les deux mesures d'orge seront à un sicle, et la mesure de fleur de farine sera à un sicle, demain à cette heure-ci, à la porte de Samarie.
  
  19 Et le capitaine avait répondu à l'homme de Dieu, et avait dit : Voici, quand l'Éternel ferait des fenêtres aux cieux, pareille chose arriverait-elle ? Et il dit : Voici, tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n'en mangeras pas.
  
  20 Et il lui en arriva ainsi : le peuple le foula aux pieds dans la porte, et il mourut.
  
  Daniel 11
  
  1 Et moi, dans la première année de Darius, le Mède, je me tins là pour l'aider et le fortifier.
  
  2 Et maintenant, je te déclarerai la vérité : Voici, il s'élèvera encore trois rois en Perse ; et le quatrième deviendra riche de grandes richesses plus que tous, et quand il sera devenu fort par ses richesses, il excitera tout contre le royaume de Javan.
  
  3 Et un roi vaillant se lèvera et exercera une grande domination, et il agira selon son bon plaisir.
  
  4 Et quand il se sera levé, son royaume sera brisé et sera divisé vers les quatre vents des cieux, et ne passera pas à sa postérité, et ne sera pas selon la domination qu'il exerçait ; car son royaume sera arraché, et sera à d'autres, outre ceux-là.
  
  5 Et le roi du midi sera fort, et un de ses chefs ; mais un autre sera plus fort que lui, et dominera ; sa domination sera une grande domination.
  
  6 Et au bout de plusieurs années, ils s'uniront ensemble ; et la fille du roi du midi viendra vers le roi du nord pour faire un arrangement droit ; mais elle ne conservera pas la force de son bras ; et il ne subsistera pas, ni son bras ; et elle sera livrée, elle, et ceux qui l'ont amenée, et celui qui l'a engendrée, et celui qui lui aidait dans ces temps-là.
  
  7 Mais d'un rejeton de ses racines se lèvera à sa place un homme, et il viendra à l'armée, et il entrera dans la forteresse du roi du nord ; et il agira contre eux et se montrera puissant ;
  
  8 et même il emmènera captifs, en Égypte, leurs dieux et leurs princes, avec leurs objets précieux, l'argent et l'or ; et il subsistera plus d'années que le roi du nord.
  
  9 Et celui-ci viendra dans le royaume du roi du midi et il retournera dans son pays.
  
  10 Mais ses fils s'irriteront et rassembleront une multitude de forces nombreuses ; et l'un d'eux viendra et inondera et passera outre ; et il reviendra et poussera le combat jusqu'à sa forteresse.
  
  11 Et le roi du midi s'exaspérera, et sortira, et fera la guerre contre lui, contre le roi du nord ; et celui-ci mettra sur pied une grande multitude, mais la multitude sera livrée en sa main.
  
  12 Et quand la multitude sera ôtée, son coeur s'exaltera, et il fera tomber des myriades ; mais il ne prévaudra pas.
  
  13 Et le roi du nord reviendra et mettra sur pied une multitude plus grande que la première ; et au bout d'une période d'années, il s'avancera avec une armée nombreuse et de grandes richesses.
  
  14 Et, dans ces temps-là, plusieurs se lèveront contre le roi du midi, et les violents de ton peuple s'élèveront pour accomplir la vision ; mais ils tomberont.
  
  15 Et le roi du nord viendra, et il élèvera une terrasse, et s'emparera de la ville forte ; et les forces du midi ne tiendront pas, ni l'élite de son peuple ; et il n'y aura pas de force en lui pour se maintenir.
  
  16 Mais celui qui vient contre lui agira selon son gré, et il n'y aura personne qui lui résiste ; et il se tiendra dans le pays de beauté, ayant la destruction dans sa main ;
  
  17 et il dirigera sa face pour venir avec les forces de tout son royaume, et des hommes droits avec lui, et il agira ; et il lui donnera la fille des femmes pour la pervertir ; mais elle ne tiendra pas, et elle ne sera pas pour lui.
  
  18 Et il tournera sa face vers les îles, et il en prendra beaucoup. Mais un chef mettra fin, pour lui, à son opprobre, et le fera retomber sur lui-même, sans opprobre pour lui ;
  
  19 et il tournera sa face vers les forteresses de son propre pays ; et il bronchera et tombera, et ne sera pas trouvé.
  
  20 Puis il s'en élèvera un à sa place qui fera passer l'exacteur par la gloire du royaume ; mais en quelques jours il sera brisé, non par colère, ni par guerre.
  
  21 Et un homme méprisé s'élèvera à sa place, auquel on ne donnera pas l'honneur du royaume ; mais il entrera paisiblement, et prendra possession du royaume par des flatteries ;
  
  22 et les forces qui débordent seront débordées devant lui et seront brisées, et même le prince de l'alliance.
  
  23 Et dès qu'il sera associé à lui, il agira avec fraude, et il montera, et sera fort avec peu de gens.
  
  24 En pleine paix il entrera dans les lieux les plus riches de la province, et il fera ce que ses pères et les pères de ses pères n'ont pas fait ; il leur distribuera du butin, et des dépouilles, et des richesses, et il tramera ses desseins contre les places fortes, et cela pour un temps.
  
  25 Et il réveillera sa puissance et son coeur contre le roi du midi, avec une grande armée. Et le roi du midi s'engagera dans la guerre avec une grande et très-puissante armée. Mais il ne tiendra pas, car ils trameront leurs desseins contre lui ;
  
  26 et ceux qui mangeaient ses mets délicats le briseront ; et son armée se dissoudra, et beaucoup de gens tomberont tués.
  
  27 Et ces deux rois auront à coeur de faire du mal, et diront des mensonges à une même table ; mais cela ne réussira pas, car la fin sera encore pour le temps déterminé.
  
  28 Et il retournera dans son pays avec de grandes richesses, et son coeur sera contre la sainte alliance, et il agira, et retournera dans son pays.
  
  29 Au temps déterminé il retournera et viendra dans le midi ; mais il n'en sera pas la dernière fois comme la première ;
  
  30 car les navires de Kittim viendront contre lui ; et il sera découragé, et retournera et sera courroucé contre la sainte alliance, et il agira ; et il retournera et portera son attention sur ceux qui abandonnent la sainte alliance.
  
  31 Et des forces se tiendront là de sa part, et elles profaneront le sanctuaire de la forteresse, et ôteront le sacrifice continuel, et elles placeront l'abomination qui cause la désolation.
  
  32 Et, par de douces paroles, il entraînera à l'impiété ceux qui agissent méchamment à l'égard de l'alliance ; mais le peuple qui connaît son Dieu sera fort et agira.
  
  33 Et les sages du peuple enseigneront la multitude ; et ils tomberont par l'épée et par la flamme, par la captivité et par le pillage, plusieurs jours.
  
  34 Et quand ils tomberont, ils seront secourus avec un peu de secours, et plusieurs se joindront à eux par des flatteries.
  
  35 Et d'entre les sages il en tombera pour les éprouver ainsi, et pour les purifier, et pour les blanchir, jusqu'au temps de la fin ; car ce sera encore pour le temps déterminé.
  
  36 Et le roi agira selon son bon plaisir, et s'exaltera, et s'élèvera contre tout dieu, et proférera des choses impies contre le Dieu des dieux ; et il prospérera jusqu'à ce que l'indignation soit accomplie ; car ce qui est déterminé sera fait.
  
  37 Et il n'aura point égard au Dieu de ses pères, et il n'aura point égard à l'objet du désir des femmes, ni à aucun dieu ; car il s'agrandira au-dessus de tout ;
  
  38 et, à sa place, il honorera le dieu des forteresses : avec de l'or, et avec de l'argent, et avec des pierres précieuses, et avec des choses désirables, il honorera un dieu que n'ont pas connu ses pères ;
  
  39 et il agira dans les lieux forts des forteresses, avec un dieu étranger : à qui le reconnaîtra il multipliera la gloire ; et il les fera dominer sur la multitude et leur partagera le pays en récompense.
  
  40 Et, au temps de la fin, le roi du midi heurtera contre lui, et le roi du nord fondra sur lui comme une tempête, avec des chars et des cavaliers, et avec beaucoup de navires, et entrera dans les pays et inondera et passera outre ;
  
  41 et il viendra dans le pays de beauté, et plusieurs pays tomberont ; mais ceux-ci échapperont de sa main : Édom, et Moab, et les principaux des fils d'Ammon.
  
  42 Et il étendra sa main sur les pays, et le pays d'Égypte n'échappera pas.
  
  43 Et il aura sous sa puissance les trésors d'or et d'argent, et toutes les choses désirables de l'Égypte ; et les Libyens et les Éthiopiens suivront ses pas.
  
  44 Mais des nouvelles de l'orient et du nord l'effrayeront, et il sortira en grande fureur pour exterminer et détruire entièrement beaucoup de gens.
  
  45 Et il plantera les tentes de son palais entre la mer et la montagne de sainte beauté ; et il viendra à sa fin, et il n'y aura personne pour le secourir.
  
  1 Timothée 4
  
  1 Or l'Esprit dit expressément qu'aux derniers temps quelques-uns apostasieront de la foi, s'attachant à des esprits séducteurs et à des enseignements de démons,
  
  2 disant des mensonges par hypocrisie, ayant leur propre conscience cautérisée,
  
  3 de se marier prescrivant de s'abstenir des viandes que Dieu a créées pour être prises avec action de grâces par les fidèles et par ceux qui connaissent la vérité ;
  
  4 car toute créature de Dieu est bonne et il n'y en a aucune qui soit à rejeter, étant prise avec action de grâces,
  
  5 car elle est sanctifiée par la parole de Dieu et par la prière.
  
  6 En proposant ces choses aux frères, tu seras un bon serviteur du Christ Jésus, nourri dans les paroles de la foi et de la bonne doctrine que tu as pleinement comprise.
  
  7 Mais rejette les fables profanes et de vieilles femmes, et exerce-toi toi-même à la piété :
  
  8 car l'exercice corporel est utile à peu de chose, mais la piété est utile à toutes choses, ayant la promesse de la vie présente et de la vie qui est à venir.
  
  9 Cette parole est certaine et digne de toute acceptation ;
  
  10 car c'est pour cela que nous travaillons et que nous sommes dans l'opprobre, parce que nous espérons dans le Dieu vivant qui est le conservateur de tous les hommes, spécialement des fidèles.
  
  11 Ordonne ces choses et enseigne-les.
  
  12 Que personne ne méprise ta jeunesse ; mais sois le modèle des fidèles, en parole, en conduite, en amour, en foi, en pureté.
  
  13 Jusqu'à ce que je vienne, attache-toi à la lecture, à l'exhortation, à l'enseignement.
  
  14 Ne néglige pas le don de grâce qui est en toi, qui t'a été donné par prophétie avec l'imposition des mains du corps des anciens.
  
  15 Occupe-toi de ces choses ; sois-y tout entier, afin que tes progrès soient évidents à tous.
  
  16 Sois attentif à toi-même et à l'enseignement ; persévère dans ces choses, car en faisant ainsi tu te sauveras toi-même et ceux qui t'écoutent.

  1 Elisha said, "Hear the word of Yahweh. Thus says Yahweh, 'Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.'"
  
  2 Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, "Behold, if Yahweh made windows in heaven, could this thing be?" He said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it."
  
  3 Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate. They said one to another, "Why do we sit here until we die?
  
  4 If we say, 'We will enter into the city,' then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die."
  
  5 They rose up in the twilight, to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no man there.
  
  6 For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great army: and they said one to another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come on us.
  
  7 Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
  
  8 When these lepers came to the outermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drink, and carried there silver, and gold, and clothing, and went and hid it. Then they came back, and entered into another tent, and carried there also, and went and hid it.
  
  9 Then they said one to another, "We aren't doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household."
  
  10 So they came and called to the porter of the city; and they told them, saying, "We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were."
  
  11 He called the porters; and they told it to the king's household within.
  
  12 The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, "I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, 'When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.'"
  
  13 One of his servants answered, "Please let some take five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are consumed. Let us send and see."
  
  14 They took therefore two chariots with horses; and the king sent after the army of the Syrians, saying, "Go and see."
  
  15 They went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. The messengers returned, and told the king.
  
  16 The people went out, and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of Yahweh.
  
  17 The king appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to be in charge of the gate: and the people trod on him in the gate, and he died as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.
  
  18 It happened, as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, "Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria";
  
  19 and that captain answered the man of God, and said, "Now, behold, if Yahweh should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be?" and he said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it."
  
  20 It happened like that to him; for the people trod on him in the gate, and he died.
  
  Daniel 11
  
  1 "As for me, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to confirm and strengthen him.
  
  2 Now will I show you the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and when he has grown strong through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece.
  
  3 A mighty king shall stand up, who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
  
  4 When he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of the sky, but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others besides these.
  
  5 The king of the south shall be strong, and [one] of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.
  
  6 At the end of years they shall join themselves together; and the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the strength of her arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm; but she shall be given up, and those who brought her, and he who became the father of her, and he who strengthened her in those times.
  
  7 But out of a shoot from her roots shall one stand up in his place, who shall come to the army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail.
  
  8 Also their gods, with their molten images, [and] with their goodly vessels of silver and of gold, shall he carry captive into Egypt; and he shall refrain some years from the king of the north.
  
  9 He shall come into the realm of the king of the south, but he shall return into his own land.
  
  10 His sons shall war, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces, which shall come on, and overflow, and pass through; and they shall return and war, even to his fortress.
  
  11 The king of the south shall be moved with anger, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north; and he shall set forth a great multitude, and the multitude shall be given into his hand.
  
  12 The multitude shall be lifted up, and his heart shall be exalted; and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail.
  
  13 The king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former; and he shall come on at the end of the times, [even of] years, with a great army and with much substance.
  
  14 In those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the children of the violent among your people shall lift themselves up to establish the vision; but they shall fall.
  
  15 So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city: and the forces of the south shall not stand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to stand.
  
  16 But he who comes against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him; and he shall stand in the glorious land, and in his hand shall be destruction.
  
  17 He shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and with him equitable conditions; and he shall perform them: and he shall give him the daughter of women, to corrupt her; but she shall not stand, neither be for him.
  
  18 After this shall he turn his face to the islands, and shall take many: but a prince shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; yes, moreover, he shall cause his reproach to turn on him.
  
  19 Then he shall turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land; but he shall stumble and fall, and shall not be found.
  
  20 Then shall stand up in his place one who shall cause a tax collector to pass through the kingdom to maintain its glory; but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
  
  21 In his place shall stand up a contemptible person, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom: but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries.
  
  22 The overwhelming forces shall be overwhelmed from before him, and shall be broken; yes, also the prince of the covenant.
  
  23 After the treaty made with him he shall work deceitfully; for he shall come up, and shall become strong, with a small people.
  
  24 In time of security shall he come even on the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them prey, and spoil, and substance: yes, he shall devise his devices against the strongholds, even for a time.
  
  25 He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall war in battle with an exceeding great and mighty army; but he shall not stand; for they shall devise devices against him.
  
  26 Yes, they who eat of his dainties shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow; and many shall fall down slain.
  
  27 As for both these kings, their hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table: but it shall not prosper; for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.
  
  28 Then shall he return into his land with great substance; and his heart [shall be] against the holy covenant; and he shall do [his pleasure], and return to his own land.
  
  29 At the time appointed he shall return, and come into the south; but it shall not be in the latter time as it was in the former.
  
  30 For ships of Kittim shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved, and shall return, and have indignation against the holy covenant, and shall do [his pleasure]: he shall even return, and have regard to those who forsake the holy covenant.
  
  31 Forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual [burnt offering], and they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate.
  
  32 Such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he pervert by flatteries; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and do [exploits].
  
  33 Those who are wise among the people shall instruct many; yet they shall fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by spoil, [many] days.
  
  34 Now when they shall fall, they shall be helped with a little help; but many shall join themselves to them with flatteries.
  
  35 Some of those who are wise shall fall, to refine them, and to purify, and to make them white, even to the time of the end; because it is yet for the time appointed.
  
  36 The king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper until the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done.
  
  37 Neither shall he regard the gods of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above all.
  
  38 But in his place shall he honor the god of fortresses; and a god whom his fathers didn't know shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
  
  39 He shall deal with the strongest fortresses by the help of a foreign god: whoever acknowledges [him] he will increase with glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for a price.
  
  40 At the time of the end shall the king of the south contend with him; and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass through.
  
  41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown; but these shall be delivered out of his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
  
  42 He shall stretch forth his hand also on the countries; and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
  
  43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
  
  44 But news out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him; and he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to sweep away many.
  
  45 He shall plant the tents of his palace between the sea and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

  1 But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,
  
  2 through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;
  
  3 forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
  
  4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.
  
  5 For it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.
  
  6 If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.
  
  7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.
  
  8 For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.
  
  9 This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.
  
  10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.
  
  11 Command and teach these things.
  
  12 Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.
  
  13 Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.
  
  14 Don't neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders.
  
  15 Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.
  
  16 Pay attention to yourself, and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

  4 אִם־אָמַרְנוּ֩ נָב֨וֹא הָעִ֜יר וְהָרָעָ֤ב בָּעִיר֙ וָמַ֣תְנוּ שָׁ֔ם וְאִם־יָשַׁ֥בְנוּ פֹ֖ה וָמָ֑תְנוּ וְעַתָּ֗ה לְכוּ֙ וְנִפְּלָה֙ אֶל־מַחֲנֵ֣ה אֲרָ֔ם אִם־יְחַיֻּ֣נוּ נִֽחְיֶ֔ה וְאִם־יְמִיתֻ֖נוּ וָמָֽתְנוּ׃

  10 וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ וַֽיִּקְרְאוּ֮ אֶל־שֹׁעֵ֣ר הָעִיר֒ וַיַּגִּ֤ידוּ לָהֶם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בָּ֚אנוּ אֶל־מַחֲנֵ֣ה אֲרָ֔ם וְהִנֵּ֥ה אֵֽין־שָׁ֛ם אִ֖ישׁ וְק֣וֹל אָדָ֑ם כִּ֣י אִם־הַסּ֤וּס אָסוּר֙ וְהַחֲמ֣וֹר אָס֔וּר וְאֹהָלִ֖ים כַּאֲשֶׁר־הֵֽמָּה׃
  
  11 וַיִּקְרָ֖א הַשֹּֽׁעֲרִ֑ים וַיַּגִּ֕ידוּ בֵּ֥ית הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ פְּנִֽימָה׃
  
  12 וַיָּ֨קָם הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ לַ֗יְלָה וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־עֲבָדָ֔יו אַגִּֽידָה־נָּ֣א לָכֶ֔ם אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־עָ֥שׂוּ לָ֖נוּ אֲרָ֑ם יָדְע֞וּ כִּי־רְעֵבִ֣ים אֲנַ֗חְנוּ וַיֵּצְא֤וּ מִן־הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ לְהֵחָבֵ֤ה *בהשדה **בַשָּׂדֶה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כִּֽי־יֵצְא֤וּ מִן־הָעִיר֙ וְנִתְפְּשֵׂ֣ם חַיִּ֔ים וְאֶל־הָעִ֖יר נָבֹֽא׃
  
  13 וַיַּעַן֩ אֶחָ֨ד מֵעֲבָדָ֜יו וַיֹּ֗אמֶר וְיִקְחוּ־נָ֞א חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה מִן־הַסּוּסִים֮ הַֽנִּשְׁאָרִים֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁאֲרוּ־בָהּ֒ הִנָּ֗ם כְּכָל־*ההמון **הֲמ֤וֹן יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁאֲרוּ־בָ֔הּ הִנָּ֕ם כְּכָל־הֲמ֥וֹן יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֲשֶׁר־תָּ֑מּוּ וְנִשְׁלְחָ֖ה וְנִרְאֶֽה׃
  
  14 וַיִּקְח֕וּ שְׁנֵ֖י רֶ֣כֶב סוּסִ֑ים וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אַחֲרֵ֧י מַחֲנֵֽה־אֲרָ֛ם לֵאמֹ֖ר לְכ֥וּ וּרְאֽוּ׃
  
  15 וַיֵּלְכ֣וּ אַחֲרֵיהֶם֮ עַד־הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ וְהִנֵּ֣ה כָל־הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ מְלֵאָ֤ה בְגָדִים֙ וְכֵלִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־הִשְׁלִ֥יכוּ אֲרָ֖ם *בהחפזם **בְּחָפְזָ֑ם וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ הַמַּלְאָכִ֔ים וַיַּגִּ֖דוּ לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
  
  16 וַיֵּצֵ֣א הָעָ֔ם וַיָּבֹ֕זּוּ אֵ֖ת מַחֲנֵ֣ה אֲרָ֑ם וַיְהִ֨י סְאָה־סֹ֜לֶת בְּשֶׁ֗קֶל וְסָאתַ֧יִם שְׂעֹרִ֛ים בְּשֶׁ֖קֶל כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃
  
  17 וְהַמֶּלֶךְ֩ הִפְקִ֨יד אֶת־הַשָּׁלִ֜ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁעָ֤ן עַל־יָדוֹ֙ עַל־הַשַּׁ֔עַר וַיִּרְמְסֻ֧הוּ הָעָ֛ם בַּשַּׁ֖עַר וַיָּמֹ֑ת כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר דִּבֶּר֙ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֔ר בְּרֶ֥דֶת הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֵלָֽיו׃

  4 וּכְעָמְדוֹ֙ תִּשָּׁבֵ֣ר מַלְכוּת֔וֹ וְתֵחָ֕ץ לְאַרְבַּ֖ע רוּח֣וֹת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְלֹ֣א לְאַחֲרִית֗וֹ וְלֹ֤א כְמָשְׁלוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר מָשָׁ֔ל כִּ֤י תִנָּתֵשׁ֙ מַלְכוּת֔וֹ וְלַאֲחֵרִ֖ים מִלְּבַד־אֵֽלֶּה׃
  
  5 וְיֶחֱזַ֥ק מֶֽלֶךְ־הַנֶּ֖גֶב וּמִן־שָׂרָ֑יו וְיֶחֱזַ֤ק עָלָיו֙ וּמָשָׁ֔ל מִמְשָׁ֥ל רַ֖ב מֶמְשַׁלְתּֽוֹ׃
  
  6 וּלְקֵ֤ץ שָׁנִים֙ יִתְחַבָּ֔רוּ וּבַ֣ת מֶֽלֶךְ־הַנֶּ֗גֶב תָּבוֹא֙ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ הַצָּפ֔וֹן לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת מֵישָׁרִ֑ים וְלֹֽא־תַעְצֹ֞ר כּ֣וֹחַ הַזְּר֗וֹעַ וְלֹ֤א יַעֲמֹד֙ וּזְרֹע֔וֹ וְתִנָּתֵ֨ן הִ֤יא וּמְבִיאֶ֙יהָ֙ וְהַיֹּ֣לְדָ֔הּ וּמַחֲזִקָ֖הּ בָּעִתִּֽים׃
  
  7 וְעָמַ֛ד מִנֵּ֥צֶר שָׁרָשֶׁ֖יהָ כַּנּ֑וֹ וְיָבֹ֣א אֶל־הַחַ֗יִל וְיָבֹא֙ בְּמָעוֹז֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הַצָּפ֔וֹן וְעָשָׂ֥ה בָהֶ֖ם וְהֶחֱזִֽיק׃
  
  8 וְגַ֣ם אֱ‍ֽלֹהֵיהֶ֡ם עִם־נְסִֽכֵיהֶם֩ עִם־כְּלֵ֨י חֶמְדָּתָ֜ם כֶּ֧סֶף וְזָהָ֛ב בַּשְּׁבִ֖י יָבִ֣א מִצְרָ֑יִם וְהוּא֙ שָׁנִ֣ים יַעֲמֹ֔ד מִמֶּ֖לֶךְ הַצָּפֽוֹן׃
  
  9 וּבָ֗א בְּמַלְכוּת֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הַנֶּ֔גֶב וְשָׁ֖ב אֶל־אַדְמָתֽוֹ׃
  
  10 *ובנו **וּבָנָ֣יו יִתְגָּר֗וּ וְאָסְפוּ֙ הֲמוֹן֙ חֲיָלִ֣ים רַבִּ֔ים וּבָ֥א ב֖וֹא וְשָׁטַ֣ף וְעָבָ֑ר וְיָשֹׁ֥ב *ויתגרו **וְיִתְגָּרֶ֖ה עַד־*מעזה **מָעֻזּֽוֹ׃
  
  11 וְיִתְמַרְמַר֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הַנֶּ֔גֶב וְיָצָ֕א וְנִלְחַ֥ם עִמּ֖וֹ עִם־מֶ֣לֶךְ הַצָּפ֑וֹן וְהֶעֱמִיד֙ הָמ֣וֹן רָ֔ב וְנִתַּ֥ן הֶהָמ֖וֹן בְּיָדֽוֹ׃
  
  12 וְנִשָּׂ֥א הֶהָמ֖וֹן *ירום **וְרָ֣ם לְבָב֑וֹ וְהִפִּ֛יל רִבֹּא֖וֹת וְלֹ֥א יָעֽוֹז׃
  
  13 וְשָׁב֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הַצָּפ֔וֹן וְהֶעֱמִ֣יד הָמ֔וֹן רַ֖ב מִן־הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן וּלְקֵ֨ץ הָֽעִתִּ֤ים שָׁנִים֙ יָ֣בוֹא ב֔וֹא בְּחַ֥יִל גָּד֖וֹל וּבִרְכ֥וּשׁ רָֽב׃
  
  14 וּבָעִתִּ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם רַבִּ֥ים יַֽעַמְד֖וּ עַל־מֶ֣לֶךְ הַנֶּ֑גֶב וּבְנֵ֣י ׀ פָּרִיצֵ֣י עַמְּךָ֗ יִֽנַּשְּׂא֛וּ לְהַעֲמִ֥יד חָז֖וֹן וְנִכְשָֽׁלוּ׃
  
  15 וְיָבֹא֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הַצָּפ֔וֹן וְיִשְׁפֹּךְ֙ סֽוֹלֲלָ֔ה וְלָכַ֖ד עִ֣יר מִבְצָר֑וֹת וּזְרֹע֤וֹת הַנֶּ֙גֶב֙ לֹ֣א יַעֲמֹ֔דוּ וְעַם֙ מִבְחָרָ֔יו וְאֵ֥ין כֹּ֖חַ לַעֲמֹֽד׃
  
  16 וְיַ֨עַשׂ הַבָּ֤א אֵלָיו֙ כִּרְצוֹנ֔וֹ וְאֵ֥ין עוֹמֵ֖ד לְפָנָ֑יו וְיַעֲמֹ֥ד בְּאֶֽרֶץ־הַצְּבִ֖י וְכָלָ֥ה בְיָדֽוֹ׃
  
  17 וְיָשֵׂ֣ם ׀ פָּ֠נָיו לָב֞וֹא בְּתֹ֧קֶף כָּל־מַלְכוּת֛וֹ וִישָׁרִ֥ים עִמּ֖וֹ וְעָשָׂ֑ה וּבַ֤ת הַנָּשִׁים֙ יִתֶּן־ל֣וֹ לְהַשְׁחִיתָ֔הּ וְלֹ֥א תַעֲמֹ֖ד וְלֹא־ל֥וֹ תִהְיֶֽה׃
  
  18 *וישב **וְיָשֵׂ֧ם ׀ פָּנָ֛יו לְאִיִּ֖ים וְלָכַ֣ד רַבִּ֑ים וְהִשְׁבִּ֨ית קָצִ֤ין חֶרְפָּתוֹ֙ ל֔וֹ בִּלְתִּ֥י חֶרְפָּת֖וֹ יָשִׁ֥יב לֽוֹ׃
  
  19 וְיָשֵׁ֣ב פָּנָ֔יו לְמָעוּזֵּ֖י אַרְצ֑וֹ וְנִכְשַׁ֥ל וְנָפַ֖ל וְלֹ֥א יִמָּצֵֽא׃
  
  20 וְעָמַ֧ד עַל־כַּנּ֛וֹ מַעֲבִ֥יר נוֹגֵ֖שׂ הֶ֣דֶר מַלְכ֑וּת וּבְיָמִ֤ים אֲחָדִים֙ יִשָּׁבֵ֔ר וְלֹ֥א בְאַפַּ֖יִם וְלֹ֥א בְמִלְחָמָֽה׃
  
  21 וְעָמַ֤ד עַל־כַּנּוֹ֙ נִבְזֶ֔ה וְלֹא־נָתְנ֥וּ עָלָ֖יו ה֣וֹד מַלְכ֑וּת וּבָ֣א בְשַׁלְוָ֔ה וְהֶחֱזִ֥יק מַלְכ֖וּת בַּחֲלַקְלַקּֽוֹת׃
  
  22 וּזְרֹע֥וֹת הַשֶּׁ֛טֶף יִשָּׁטְפ֥וּ מִלְּפָנָ֖יו וְיִשָּׁבֵ֑רוּ וְגַ֖ם נְגִ֥יד בְּרִֽית׃
  
  23 וּמִן־הִֽתְחַבְּר֥וּת אֵלָ֖יו יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה מִרְמָ֑ה וְעָלָ֥ה וְעָצַ֖ם בִּמְעַט־גּֽוֹי׃
  
  24 בְּשַׁלְוָ֞ה וּבְמִשְׁמַנֵּ֣י מְדִינָה֮ יָבוֹא֒ וְעָשָׂ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹא־עָשׂ֤וּ אֲבֹתָיו֙ וַאֲב֣וֹת אֲבֹתָ֔יו בִּזָּ֧ה וְשָׁלָ֛ל וּרְכ֖וּשׁ לָהֶ֣ם יִבְז֑וֹר וְעַ֧ל מִבְצָרִ֛ים יְחַשֵּׁ֥ב מַחְשְׁבֹתָ֖יו וְעַד־עֵֽת׃
  
  25 וְיָעֵר֩ כֹּח֨וֹ וּלְבָב֜וֹ עַל־מֶ֣לֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב֮ בְּחַ֣יִל גָּדוֹל֒ וּמֶ֣לֶךְ הַנֶּ֗גֶב יִתְגָּרֶה֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה בְּחַֽיִל־גָּד֥וֹל וְעָצ֖וּם עַד־מְאֹ֑ד וְלֹ֣א יַעֲמֹ֔ד כִּֽי־יַחְשְׁב֥וּ עָלָ֖יו מַחֲשָׁבֽוֹת׃
  
  26 וְאֹכְלֵ֧י פַת־בָּג֛וֹ יִשְׁבְּר֖וּהוּ וְחֵיל֣וֹ יִשְׁט֑וֹף וְנָפְל֖וּ חֲלָלִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃
  
  27 וּשְׁנֵיהֶ֤ם הַמְּלָכִים֙ לְבָבָ֣ם לְמֵרָ֔ע וְעַל־שֻׁלְחָ֥ן אֶחָ֖ד כָּזָ֣ב יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ וְלֹ֣א תִצְלָ֔ח כִּי־ע֥וֹד קֵ֖ץ לַמּוֹעֵֽד׃
  
  28 וְיָשֹׁ֤ב אַרְצוֹ֙ בִּרְכ֣וּשׁ גָּד֔וֹל וּלְבָב֖וֹ עַל־בְּרִ֣ית קֹ֑דֶשׁ וְעָשָׂ֖ה וְשָׁ֥ב לְאַרְצֽוֹ׃
  
  29 לַמּוֹעֵ֥ד יָשׁ֖וּב וּבָ֣א בַנֶּ֑גֶב וְלֹֽא־תִהְיֶ֥ה כָרִאשֹׁנָ֖ה וְכָאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃
  
  30 וּבָ֨אוּ ב֜וֹ צִיִּ֤ים כִּתִּים֙ וְנִכְאָ֔ה וְשָׁ֛ב וְזָעַ֥ם עַל־בְּרִֽית־ק֖וֹדֶשׁ וְעָשָׂ֑ה וְשָׁ֣ב וְיָבֵ֔ן עַל־עֹזְבֵ֖י בְּרִ֥ית קֹֽדֶשׁ׃
  
  31 וּזְרֹעִ֖ים מִמֶּ֣נּוּ יַעֲמֹ֑דוּ וְחִלְּל֞וּ הַמִּקְדָּ֤שׁ הַמָּעוֹז֙ וְהֵסִ֣ירוּ הַתָּמִ֔יד וְנָתְנ֖וּ הַשִּׁקּ֥וּץ מְשׁוֹמֵֽם׃
  
  32 וּמַרְשִׁיעֵ֣י בְרִ֔ית יַחֲנִ֖יף בַּחֲלַקּ֑וֹת וְעַ֛ם יֹדְעֵ֥י אֱלֹהָ֖יו יַחֲזִ֥קוּ וְעָשֽׂוּ׃
  
  33 וּמַשְׂכִּ֣ילֵי עָ֔ם יָבִ֖ינוּ לָֽרַבִּ֑ים וְנִכְשְׁל֞וּ בְּחֶ֧רֶב וּבְלֶהָבָ֛ה בִּשְׁבִ֥י וּבְבִזָּ֖ה יָמִֽים׃
  
  34 וּבְהִכָּ֣שְׁלָ֔ם יֵעָזְר֖וּ עֵ֣זֶר מְעָ֑ט וְנִלְו֧וּ עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם רַבִּ֖ים בַּחֲלַקְלַקּֽוֹת׃
  
  35 וּמִן־הַמַּשְׂכִּילִ֣ים יִכָּֽשְׁל֗וּ לִצְר֥וֹף בָּהֶ֛ם וּלְבָרֵ֥ר וְלַלְבֵּ֖ן עַד־עֵ֣ת קֵ֑ץ כִּי־ע֖וֹד לַמּוֹעֵֽד׃
  
  36 וְעָשָׂ֨ה כִרְצוֹנ֜וֹ הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וְיִתְרוֹמֵ֤ם וְיִתְגַּדֵּל֙ עַל־כָּל־אֵ֔ל וְעַל֙ אֵ֣ל אֵלִ֔ים יְדַבֵּ֖ר נִפְלָא֑וֹת וְהִצְלִ֙יחַ֙ עַד־כָּ֣לָה זַ֔עַם כִּ֥י נֶחֱרָצָ֖ה נֶעֱשָֽׂתָה׃
  
  37 וְעַל־אֱלֹהֵ֤י אֲבֹתָיו֙ לֹ֣א יָבִ֔ין וְעַל־חֶמְדַּ֥ת נָשִׁ֛ים וְעַֽל־כָּל־אֱל֖וֹהַּ לֹ֣א יָבִ֑ין כִּ֥י עַל־כֹּ֖ל יִתְגַּדָּֽל׃
  
  38 וְלֶאֱלֹ֙הַּ֙ מָֽעֻזִּ֔ים עַל־כַּנּ֖וֹ יְכַבֵּ֑ד וְלֶאֱל֜וֹהַּ אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹא־יְדָעֻ֣הוּ אֲבֹתָ֗יו יְכַבֵּ֛ד בְּזָהָ֥ב וּבְכֶ֛סֶף וּבְאֶ֥בֶן יְקָרָ֖ה וּבַחֲמֻדֽוֹת׃
  
  39 וְעָשָׂ֞ה לְמִבְצְרֵ֤י מָֽעֻזִּים֙ עִם־אֱל֣וֹהַּ נֵכָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר *הכיר **יַכִּ֖יר יַרְבֶּ֣ה כָב֑וֹד וְהִמְשִׁילָם֙ בָּֽרַבִּ֔ים וַאֲדָמָ֖ה יְחַלֵּ֥ק בִּמְחִֽיר׃
  
  40 וּבְעֵ֣ת קֵ֗ץ יִתְנַגַּ֤ח עִמּוֹ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הַנֶּ֔גֶב וְיִשְׂתָּעֵ֨ר עָלָ֜יו מֶ֣לֶךְ הַצָּפ֗וֹן בְּרֶ֙כֶב֙ וּבְפָ֣רָשִׁ֔ים וּבָאֳנִיּ֖וֹת רַבּ֑וֹת וּבָ֥א בַאֲרָצ֖וֹת וְשָׁטַ֥ף וְעָבָֽר׃
  
  41 וּבָא֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַצְּבִ֔י וְרַבּ֖וֹת יִכָּשֵׁ֑לוּ וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ יִמָּלְט֣וּ מִיָּד֔וֹ אֱד֣וֹם וּמוֹאָ֔ב וְרֵאשִׁ֖ית בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃
  
  42 וְיִשְׁלַ֥ח יָד֖וֹ בַּאֲרָצ֑וֹת וְאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם לֹ֥א תִהְיֶ֖ה לִפְלֵיטָֽה׃
  
  43 וּמָשַׁ֗ל בְּמִכְמַנֵּי֙ הַזָּהָ֣ב וְהַכֶּ֔סֶף וּבְכֹ֖ל חֲמֻד֣וֹת מִצְרָ֑יִם וְלֻבִ֥ים וְכֻשִׁ֖ים בְּמִצְעָדָֽיו׃
  
  44 וּשְׁמֻע֣וֹת יְבַהֲלֻ֔הוּ מִמִּזְרָ֖ח וּמִצָּפ֑וֹן וְיָצָא֙ בְּחֵמָ֣א גְדֹלָ֔ה לְהַשְׁמִ֥יד וּֽלְהַחֲרִ֖ים רַבִּֽים׃
  
  45 וְיִטַּע֙ אָהֳלֶ֣י אַפַּדְנ֔וֹ בֵּ֥ין יַמִּ֖ים לְהַר־צְבִי־קֹ֑דֶשׁ וּבָא֙ עַד־קִצּ֔וֹ וְאֵ֥ין עוֹזֵ֖ר לֽוֹ׃

  1 Τὸ δὲ πνεῦμα ῥητῶς λέγει ὅτι ἐν ὑστέροις καιροῖς ἀποστήσονταί τινες τῆς πίστεως, προσέχοντες πνεύμασι πλάνοις καὶ διδασκαλίαις δαιμονίων
  
  2 ἐν ὑποκρίσει ψευδολόγων, κεκαυστηριασμένων τὴν ἰδίαν συνείδησιν,
  
  3 κωλυόντων γαμεῖν, ἀπέχεσθαι βρωμάτων ἃ ὁ θεὸς ἔκτισεν εἰς μετάλημψιν μετὰ εὐχαριστίας τοῖς πιστοῖς καὶ ἐπεγνωκόσι τὴν ἀλήθειαν.
  
  4 ὅτι πᾶν κτίσμα θεοῦ καλόν, καὶ οὐδὲν ἀπόβλητον μετὰ εὐχαριστίας λαμβανόμενον,
  
  5 ἁγιάζεται γὰρ διὰ λόγου θεοῦ καὶ ἐντεύξεως.
  
  6 Ταῦτα ὑποτιθέμενος τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς καλὸς ἔσῃ διάκονος Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ, ἐντρεφόμενος τοῖς λόγοις τῆς πίστεως καὶ τῆς καλῆς διδασκαλίας ᾗ παρηκολούθηκας,
  
  7 τοὺς δὲ βεβήλους καὶ γραώδεις μύθους παραιτοῦ. γύμναζε δὲ σεαυτὸν πρὸς εὐσέβειαν·
  
  8 ἡ γὰρ σωματικὴ γυμνασία πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶν ὠφέλιμος, ἡ δὲ εὐσέβεια πρὸς πάντα ὠφέλιμός ἐστιν, ἐπαγγελίαν ἔχουσα ζωῆς τῆς νῦν καὶ τῆς μελλούσης.
  
  9 πιστὸς ὁ λόγος καὶ πάσης ἀποδοχῆς ἄξιος,
  
  10 εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ κοπιῶμεν καὶ ὀνειδιζόμεθα, ὅτι ἠλπίκαμεν ἐπὶ θεῷ ζῶντι, ὅς ἐστιν σωτὴρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων, μάλιστα πιστῶν.
  
  11 Παράγγελλε ταῦτα καὶ δίδασκε.
  
  12 μηδείς σου τῆς νεότητος καταφρονείτω, ἀλλὰ τύπος γίνου τῶν πιστῶν ἐν λόγῳ, ἐν ἀναστροφῇ, ἐν ἀγάπῃ, ἐν πίστει, ἐν ἁγνείᾳ.
  
  13 ἕως ἔρχομαι πρόσεχε τῇ ἀναγνώσει, τῇ παρακλήσει, τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ.
  
  14 μὴ ἀμέλει τοῦ ἐν σοὶ χαρίσματος, ὃ ἐδόθη σοι διὰ προφητείας μετὰ ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν τοῦ πρεσβυτερίου.
  
  15 ταῦτα μελέτα, ἐν τούτοις ἴσθι, ἵνα σου ἡ προκοπὴ φανερὰ ᾖ πᾶσιν·
  
  16 ἔπεχε σεαυτῷ καὶ τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ· ἐπίμενε αὐτοῖς· τοῦτο γὰρ ποιῶν καὶ σεαυτὸν σώσεις καὶ τοὺς ἀκούοντάς σου.
