- Genèse 4
  
  1 The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, "I have gotten a man with Yahweh's help."
  
  2 Again she gave birth, to Cain's brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
  
  3 As time passed, it happened that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh from the fruit of the ground.
  
  4 Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Yahweh respected Abel and his offering,
  
  5 but he didn't respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.
  
  6 Yahweh said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen?
  
  7 If you do well, will it not be lifted up? If you don't do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it."
  
  8 Cain said to Abel, his brother, "Let's go into the field." It happened when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.
  
  9 Yahweh said to Cain, "Where is Abel, your brother?" He said, "I don't know. Am I my brother's keeper?"
  
  10 Yahweh said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.
  
  11 Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
  
  12 From now on, when you till the ground, it won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth."
  
  13 Cain said to Yahweh, "My punishment is greater than I can bear.
  
  14 Behold, you have driven me out this day from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. It will happen that whoever finds me will kill me."
  
  15 Yahweh said to him, "Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should strike him.
  
  16 Cain went out from Yahweh's presence, and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
  
  17 Cain knew his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Enoch. He built a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
  
  18 To Enoch was born Irad. Irad became the father of Mehujael. Mehujael became the father of Methushael. Methushael became the father of Lamech.
  
  19 Lamech took two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
  
  20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.
  
  21 His brother's name was Jubal, who was the father of all who handle the harp and pipe.
  
  22 Zillah also gave birth to Tubal Cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron. Tubal Cain's sister was Naamah.
  
  23 Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice. You wives of Lamech, listen to my speech, for I have slain a man for wounding me, a young man for bruising me.
  
  24 If Cain will be avenged seven times, truly Lamech seventy-seven times."
  
  25 Adam knew his wife again. She gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, "for God has appointed me another child instead of Abel, for Cain killed him."
  
  26 There was also born a son to Seth, and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on Yahweh's name.
  
  Esdras 4
  
  1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple to Yahweh, the God of Israel;
  
  2 then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' households, and said to them, "Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as you do; and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here."
  
  3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' households of Israel, said to them, "You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we ourselves together will build to Yahweh, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us."
  
  4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
  
  5 and hired counselors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
  
  6 In the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
  
  7 In the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in Syrian, and set forth in the Syrian language.
  
  8 Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:
  
  9 then Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,
  
  10 and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River, and so forth, wrote.
  
  11 This is the copy of the letter that they sent to Artaxerxes the king: Your servants the men beyond the River, and so forth.
  
  12 Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and repaired the foundations.
  
  13 Be it known now to the king that if this city is built, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.
  
  14 Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not appropriate for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and informed the king;
  
  15 that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers: so you shall find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste.
  
  16 We inform the king that, if this city be built, and the walls finished, by this means you shall have no portion beyond the River.
  
  17 Then the king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions who dwell in Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River: Peace, and so forth.
  
  18 The letter which you sent to us has been plainly read before me.
  
  19 I decreed, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
  
  20 There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid to them.
  
  21 Make a decree now to cause these men to cease, and that this city not be built, until a decree shall be made by me.
  
  22 Take heed that you not be slack herein: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
  
  23 Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
  
  24 Then ceased the work of God's house which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
  
  Matthieu 4
  
  1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
  
  2 When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward.
  
  3 The tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."
  
  4 But he answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"
  
  5 Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
  
  6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will put his angels in charge of you.' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against a stone.'"
  
  7 Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.'"
  
  8 Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.
  
  9 He said to him, "I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me."
  
  10 Then Jesus said to him, "Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.'"
  
  11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.
  
  12 Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.
  
  13 Leaving Nazareth, he came and lived in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
  
  14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
  
  15 "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
  
  16 the people who sat in darkness saw a great light, to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, to them light has dawned."
  
  17 From that time, Jesus began to preach, and to say, "Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."
  
  18 Walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
  
  19 He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men."
  
  20 They immediately left their nets and followed him.
  
  21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them.
  
  22 They immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.
  
  23 Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
  
  24 The report about him went out into all Syria. They brought to him all who were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, possessed with demons, epileptics, and paralytics; and he healed them.
  
  25 Great multitudes from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and from beyond the Jordan followed him.

  2 וַתֹּ֣סֶף לָלֶ֔דֶת אֶת־אָחִ֖יו אֶת־הָ֑בֶל וַֽיְהִי־הֶ֙בֶל֙ רֹ֣עֵה צֹ֔אן וְקַ֕יִן הָיָ֖ה עֹבֵ֥ד אֲדָמָֽה׃
  
  3 וַֽיְהִ֖י מִקֵּ֣ץ יָמִ֑ים וַיָּבֵ֨א קַ֜יִן מִפְּרִ֧י הָֽאֲדָמָ֛ה מִנְחָ֖ה לַֽיהוָֽה׃
  
  4 וְהֶ֨בֶל הֵבִ֥יא גַם־ה֛וּא מִבְּכֹר֥וֹת צֹאנ֖וֹ וּמֵֽחֶלְבֵהֶ֑ן וַיִּ֣שַׁע יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־הֶ֖בֶל וְאֶל־מִנְחָתֽוֹ׃
  
  5 וְאֶל־קַ֥יִן וְאֶל־מִנְחָת֖וֹ לֹ֣א שָׁעָ֑ה וַיִּ֤חַר לְקַ֙יִן֙ מְאֹ֔ד וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ פָּנָֽיו׃
  
  6 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־קָ֑יִן לָ֚מָּה חָ֣רָה לָ֔ךְ וְלָ֖מָּה נָפְל֥וּ פָנֶֽיךָ׃
  
  7 הֲל֤וֹא אִם־תֵּיטִיב֙ שְׂאֵ֔ת וְאִם֙ לֹ֣א תֵיטִ֔יב לַפֶּ֖תַח חַטָּ֣את רֹבֵ֑ץ וְאֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ תְּשׁ֣וּקָת֔וֹ וְאַתָּ֖ה תִּמְשָׁל־בּֽוֹ׃
  
  8 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר קַ֖יִן אֶל־הֶ֣בֶל אָחִ֑יו וַֽיְהִי֙ בִּהְיוֹתָ֣ם בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה וַיָּ֥קָם קַ֛יִן אֶל־הֶ֥בֶל אָחִ֖יו וַיַּהַרְגֵֽהוּ׃

  11 וְעַתָּ֖ה אָר֣וּר אָ֑תָּה מִן־הָֽאֲדָמָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר פָּצְתָ֣ה אֶת־פִּ֔יהָ לָקַ֛חַת אֶת־דְּמֵ֥י אָחִ֖יךָ מִיָּדֶֽךָ׃
  
  12 כִּ֤י תַֽעֲבֹד֙ אֶת־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה לֹֽא־תֹסֵ֥ף תֵּת־כֹּחָ֖הּ לָ֑ךְ נָ֥ע וָנָ֖ד תִּֽהְיֶ֥ה בָאָֽרֶץ׃

  23 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לֶ֜מֶךְ לְנָשָׁ֗יו עָדָ֤ה וְצִלָּה֙ שְׁמַ֣עַן קוֹלִ֔י נְשֵׁ֣י לֶ֔מֶךְ הַאְזֵ֖נָּה אִמְרָתִ֑י כִּ֣י אִ֤ישׁ הָרַ֙גְתִּי֙ לְפִצְעִ֔י וְיֶ֖לֶד לְחַבֻּרָתִֽי׃
  
  24 כִּ֥י שִׁבְעָתַ֖יִם יֻקַּם־קָ֑יִן וְלֶ֖מֶךְ שִׁבְעִ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָֽה׃
  
  25 וַיֵּ֨דַע אָדָ֥ם עוֹד֙ אֶת־אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֔ן וַתִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ שֵׁ֑ת כִּ֣י שָֽׁת־לִ֤י אֱלֹהִים֙ זֶ֣רַע אַחֵ֔ר תַּ֣חַת הֶ֔בֶל כִּ֥י הֲרָג֖וֹ קָֽיִן׃

  1 וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֔וּ צָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה וּבִנְיָמִ֑ן כִּֽי־בְנֵ֤י הַגּוֹלָה֙ בּוֹנִ֣ים הֵיכָ֔ל לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
  
  2 וַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּ אֶל־זְרֻבָּבֶ֜ל וְאֶל־רָאשֵׁ֣י הָֽאָב֗וֹת וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נִבְנֶ֣ה עִמָּכֶ֔ם כִּ֣י כָכֶ֔ם נִדְר֖וֹשׁ לֵֽאלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם *ולא **וְל֣וֹ ׀ אֲנַ֣חְנוּ זֹבְחִ֗ים מִימֵי֙ אֵסַ֤ר חַדֹּן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר הַמַּעֲלֶ֥ה אֹתָ֖נוּ פֹּֽה׃
  
  3 וַיֹּאמֶר֩ לָהֶ֨ם זְרֻבָּבֶ֜ל וְיֵשׁ֗וּעַ וּשְׁאָ֨ר רָאשֵׁ֤י הָֽאָבוֹת֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לֹֽא־לָ֣כֶם וָלָ֔נוּ לִבְנ֥וֹת בַּ֖יִת לֵאלֹהֵ֑ינוּ כִּי֩ אֲנַ֨חְנוּ יַ֜חַד נִבְנֶ֗ה לַֽיהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֔נוּ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ כּ֥וֹרֶשׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־פָּרָֽס׃
  
  4 וַיְהִי֙ עַם־הָאָ֔רֶץ מְרַפִּ֖ים יְדֵ֣י עַם־יְהוּדָ֑ה *ומבלהים **וּֽמְבַהֲלִ֥ים אוֹתָ֖ם לִבְנֽוֹת׃
  
  5 וְסֹכְרִ֧ים עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם יוֹעֲצִ֖ים לְהָפֵ֣ר עֲצָתָ֑ם כָּל־יְמֵ֗י כּ֚וֹרֶשׁ מֶ֣לֶךְ פָּרַ֔ס וְעַד־מַלְכ֖וּת דָּרְיָ֥וֶשׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־פָּרָֽס׃
  
  6 וּבְמַלְכוּת֙ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֔וֹשׁ בִּתְחִלַּ֖ת מַלְכוּת֑וֹ כָּתְב֣וּ שִׂטְנָ֔ה עַל־יֹשְׁבֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה וִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
  
  7 וּבִימֵ֣י אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֗שְׂתָּא כָּתַ֨ב בִּשְׁלָ֜ם מִתְרְדָ֤ת טָֽבְאֵל֙ וּשְׁאָ֣ר *כנותו **כְּנָוֺתָ֔יו עַל־*ארתחששתא **אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֖שְׂתְּ מֶ֣לֶךְ פָּרָ֑ס וּכְתָב֙ הַֽנִּשְׁתְּוָ֔ן כָּת֥וּב אֲרָמִ֖ית וּמְתֻרְגָּ֥ם אֲרָמִֽית׃
  
  8 רְח֣וּם בְּעֵל־טְעֵ֗ם וְשִׁמְשַׁי֙ סָֽפְרָ֔א כְּתַ֛בוּ אִגְּרָ֥ה חֲדָ֖ה עַל־יְרוּשְׁלֶ֑ם לְאַרְתַּחְשַׁ֥שְׂתְּא מַלְכָּ֖א כְּנֵֽמָא׃
  
  9 אֱדַ֜יִן רְח֣וּם בְּעֵל־טְעֵ֗ם וְשִׁמְשַׁי֙ סָֽפְרָ֔א וּשְׁאָ֖ר כְּנָוָתְה֑וֹן דִּ֠ינָיֵא וַאֲפַרְסַתְכָיֵ֞א טַרְפְּלָיֵ֣א אֲפָֽרְסָיֵ֗א *ארכוי **אַרְכְּוָיֵ֤א בָבְלָיֵא֙ שֽׁוּשַׁנְכָיֵ֔א *דהוא **דֶּהָיֵ֖א עֵלְמָיֵֽא׃
  
  10 וּשְׁאָ֣ר אֻמַּיָּ֗א דִּ֤י הַגְלִי֙ אָסְנַפַּר֙ רַבָּ֣א וְיַקִּירָ֔א וְהוֹתֵ֣ב הִמּ֔וֹ בְּקִרְיָ֖ה דִּ֣י שָׁמְרָ֑יִן וּשְׁאָ֥ר עֲבַֽר־נַהֲרָ֖ה וּכְעֶֽנֶת׃
  
  11 דְּנָה֙ פַּרְשֶׁ֣גֶן אִגַּרְתָּ֔א דִּ֚י שְׁלַ֣חוּ עֲל֔וֹהִי עַל־אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֖שְׂתְּא מַלְכָּ֑א עַבְדָ֛יךְ אֱנָ֥שׁ עֲבַֽר־נַהֲרָ֖ה וּכְעֶֽנֶת׃
  
  12 יְדִ֙יעַ֙ לֶהֱוֵ֣א לְמַלְכָּ֔א דִּ֣י יְהוּדָיֵ֗א דִּ֤י סְלִ֙קוּ֙ מִן־לְוָתָ֔ךְ עֲלֶ֥ינָא אֲת֖וֹ לִירוּשְׁלֶ֑ם קִרְיְתָ֨א מָֽרָדְתָּ֤א *ובאישתא **וּבִֽישְׁתָּא֙ בָּנַ֔יִן *ושורי **וְשׁוּרַיָּ֣א *אשכללו **שַׁכְלִ֔ילוּ וְאֻשַּׁיָּ֖א יַחִֽיטוּ׃

  14 כְּעַ֗ן כָּל־קֳבֵל֙ דִּֽי־מְלַ֤ח הֵֽיכְלָא֙ מְלַ֔חְנָא וְעַרְוַ֣ת מַלְכָּ֔א לָ֥א אֲ‍ֽרִֽיךְ לַ֖נָא לְמֶֽחֱזֵ֑א עַ֨ל־דְּנָ֔ה שְׁלַ֖חְנָא וְהוֹדַ֥עְנָא לְמַלְכָּֽא׃
  
  15 דִּ֡י יְבַקַּר֩ בִּֽסְפַר־דָּכְרָ֨נַיָּ֜א דִּ֣י אֲבָהָתָ֗ךְ וּ֠תְהַשְׁכַּח בִּסְפַ֣ר דָּכְרָנַיָּא֮ וְתִנְדַּע֒ דִּי֩ קִרְיְתָ֨א דָ֜ךְ קִרְיָ֣א מָֽרָדָ֗א וּֽמְהַנְזְקַ֤ת מַלְכִין֙ וּמְדִנָ֔ן וְאֶשְׁתַּדּוּר֙ עָבְדִ֣ין בְּגַוַּ֔הּ מִן־יוֹמָ֖ת עָלְמָ֑א עַ֨ל־דְּנָ֔ה קִרְיְתָ֥א דָ֖ךְ הָֽחָרְבַֽת׃

  17 פִּתְגָמָ֞א שְׁלַ֣ח מַלְכָּ֗א עַל־רְח֤וּם בְּעֵל־טְעֵם֙ וְשִׁמְשַׁ֣י סָֽפְרָ֔א וּשְׁאָר֙ כְּנָוָ֣תְה֔וֹן דִּ֥י יָתְבִ֖ין בְּשָֽׁמְרָ֑יִן וּשְׁאָ֧ר עֲבַֽר־נַהֲרָ֛ה שְׁלָ֖ם וּכְעֶֽת׃

  20 וּמַלְכִ֣ין תַּקִּיפִ֗ין הֲווֹ֙ עַל־יְר֣וּשְׁלֶ֔ם וְשַׁ֨לִּיטִ֔ין בְּכֹ֖ל עֲבַ֣ר נַהֲרָ֑ה וּמִדָּ֥ה בְל֛וֹ וַהֲלָ֖ךְ מִתְיְהֵ֥ב לְהֽוֹן׃

  1 Τότε ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀνήχθη εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ὑπὸ τοῦ πνεύματος, πειρασθῆναι ὑπὸ τοῦ διαβόλου.
  
  2 καὶ νηστεύσας ἡμέρας τεσσεράκοντα καὶ νύκτας τεσσεράκοντα ὕστερον ἐπείνασεν.
  
  3 καὶ προσελθὼν ὁ πειράζων εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, εἰπὲ ἵνα οἱ λίθοι οὗτοι ἄρτοι γένωνται.
  
  4 ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Γέγραπται· Οὐκ ἐπ’ ἄρτῳ μόνῳ ζήσεται ὁ ἄνθρωπος, ἀλλ’ ἐπὶ παντὶ ῥήματι ἐκπορευομένῳ διὰ στόματος θεοῦ.
  
  5 Τότε παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν, καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ πτερύγιον τοῦ ἱεροῦ,
  
  6 καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, βάλε σεαυτὸν κάτω· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι Τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ ἐντελεῖται περὶ σοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ χειρῶν ἀροῦσίν σε, μήποτε προσκόψῃς πρὸς λίθον τὸν πόδα σου.
  
  7 ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Πάλιν γέγραπται· Οὐκ ἐκπειράσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου.
  
  8 Πάλιν παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν λίαν, καὶ δείκνυσιν αὐτῷ πάσας τὰς βασιλείας τοῦ κόσμου καὶ τὴν δόξαν αὐτῶν
  
  9 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ταῦτά σοι πάντα δώσω, ἐὰν πεσὼν προσκυνήσῃς μοι.
  
  10 τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ὕπαγε, Σατανᾶ· γέγραπται γάρ· Κύριον τὸν θεόν σου προσκυνήσεις καὶ αὐτῷ μόνῳ λατρεύσεις.
  
  11 τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγελοι προσῆλθον καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῷ.
  
  12 Ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι Ἰωάννης παρεδόθη ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν.
  
  13 καὶ καταλιπὼν τὴν Ναζαρὰ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ τὴν παραθαλασσίαν ἐν ὁρίοις Ζαβουλὼν καὶ Νεφθαλίμ·
  
  14 ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·
  
  15 Γῆ Ζαβουλὼν καὶ γῆ Νεφθαλίμ, ὁδὸν θαλάσσης, πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου, Γαλιλαία τῶν ἐθνῶν,
  
  16 ὁ λαὸς ὁ καθήμενος ἐν σκοτίᾳ φῶς εἶδεν μέγα, καὶ τοῖς καθημένοις ἐν χώρᾳ καὶ σκιᾷ θανάτου φῶς ἀνέτειλεν αὐτοῖς.
  
  17 Ἀπὸ τότε ἤρξατο ὁ Ἰησοῦς κηρύσσειν καὶ λέγειν· Μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικεν γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.
  
  18 Περιπατῶν δὲ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας εἶδεν δύο ἀδελφούς, Σίμωνα τὸν λεγόμενον Πέτρον καὶ Ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, βάλλοντας ἀμφίβληστρον εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς·
  
  19 καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Δεῦτε ὀπίσω μου, καὶ ποιήσω ὑμᾶς ἁλιεῖς ἀνθρώπων.
  
  20 οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὰ δίκτυα ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ.
  
  21 Καὶ προβὰς ἐκεῖθεν εἶδεν ἄλλους δύο ἀδελφούς, Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ μετὰ Ζεβεδαίου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν καταρτίζοντας τὰ δίκτυα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς.
  
  22 οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὸ πλοῖον καὶ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ.
  
  23 Καὶ περιῆγεν ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ, διδάσκων ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ θεραπεύων πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν ἐν τῷ λαῷ.
  
  24 καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἡ ἀκοὴ αὐτοῦ εἰς ὅλην τὴν Συρίαν· καὶ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις καὶ βασάνοις συνεχομένους, δαιμονιζομένους καὶ σεληνιαζομένους καὶ παραλυτικούς, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτούς.
  
  25 καὶ ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ Δεκαπόλεως καὶ Ἱεροσολύμων καὶ Ἰουδαίας καὶ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου.

  1 Et l'homme connut Eve sa femme ; et elle conçut, et enfanta Caïn ; et elle dit : J'ai acquis un homme avec l'Éternel.
  
  2 Et elle enfanta encore son frère, Abel. Et Abel paissait le menu bétail, et Caïn labourait la terre.
  
  3 Et il arriva, au bout de quelque temps, que Caïn apporta, du fruit du sol, une offrande à l'Éternel.
  
  4 Et Abel apporta, lui aussi, des premiers-nés de son troupeau, et de leur graisse. Et l'Éternel eut égard à Abel et à son offrande ;
  
  5 mais à Caïn et à son offrande, il n'eut pas égard. Et Caïn fut très-irrité, et son visage fut abattu.
  
  6 Et l'Éternel dit à Caïn : Pourquoi es-tu irrité, et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu ?
  
  7 Si tu fais bien, ne seras-tu pas agréé ? Et si tu ne fais pas bien, le péché est couché à la porte. Et son désir sera tourné vers toi, et toi tu domineras sur lui.
  
  8 Et Caïn parla à Abel son frère ; et il arriva, comme ils étaient aux champs, que Caïn se leva contre Abel, son frère, et le tua.
  
  9 Et l'Éternel dit à Caïn : Où est Abel, ton frère ? Et il dit : Je ne sais. Suis-je, moi, le gardien de mon frère ? Et il dit : Qu'as-tu fait ?
  
  10 La voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre à moi.
  
  11 Et maintenant, tu es maudit de la terre qui a ouvert sa bouche pour recevoir de ta main le sang de ton frère.
  
  12 Quand tu laboureras le sol, il ne te donnera plus sa force ; tu seras errant et vagabond sur la terre.
  
  13 Et Caïn dit à l'Éternel : Mon châtiment est trop grand pour que j'en porte le poids.
  
  14 Voici, tu m'as chassé aujourd'hui de dessus la face de la terre, et je serai caché de devant ta face, et je serai errant et vagabond sur la terre ; et il arrivera que quiconque me trouvera me tuera.
  
  15 Et l'Éternel lui dit : C'est pourquoi quiconque tuera Caïn sera puni sept fois. Et l'Éternel mit un signe sur Caïn, afin que quiconque le trouverait ne le tuât point.
  
  16 Et Caïn sortit de devant l'Éternel ; et il habita dans le pays de Nod, à l'orient d'Éden.
  
  17 Et Caïn connut sa femme, et elle conçut, et enfanta Hénoc ; et il bâtit une ville, et appela le nom de la ville d'après le nom de son fils Hénoc.
  
  18 Et à Hénoc naquit Irad ; et Irad engendra Mehujaël, et Mehujaël engendra Methushaël ; et Methushaël engendra Lémec.
  
  19 Et Lémec prit deux femmes : le nom de l'une était Ada, et le nom de la seconde : Tsilla.
  
  20 Et Ada enfanta Jabal : lui, fut père de ceux qui habitent sous des tentes et ont du bétail.
  
  21 Et le nom de son frère fut Jubal : lui, fut père de tous ceux qui manient la harpe et la flûte.
  
  22 Et Tsilla, elle aussi, enfanta Tubal-Caïn, qui fut forgeur de tous les outils d'airain et de fer. Et la soeur de Tubal-Caïn fut Naama.
  
  23 Et Lémec dit à ses femmes : Ada et Tsilla, écoutez ma voix ; femmes de Lémec, prêtez l'oreille à ma parole : Je tuerai un homme pour ma blessure, et un jeune homme pour ma meurtrissure ;
  
  24 si Caïn est vengé sept fois, Lémec le sera soixante-dix-sept fois.
  
  25 Et Adam connut encore sa femme ; et elle enfanta un fils, et appela son nom Seth ; car, dit-elle, Dieu m'a assigné une autre semence au lieu d'Abel ; car Caïn l'a tué.
  
  26 Et à Seth, à lui aussi, naquit un fils ; et il appela son nom Énosh. Alors on commença à invoquer le nom de l'Éternel.

  1 Et les ennemis de Juda et de Benjamin entendirent que les fils de la transportation bâtissaient le temple de l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël ;
  
  2 et ils s'approchèrent de Zorobabel et des chefs des pères, et leur dirent : Nous bâtirons avec vous, car nous recherchons votre Dieu, comme vous, et nous lui offrons des sacrifices depuis les jours d'Ésar-Haddon, roi d'Assyrie, qui nous a fait monter ici.
  
  3 Et Zorobabel, et Jéshua, et le reste des chefs des pères d'Israël, leur dirent : Vous n'avez pas affaire avec nous pour bâtir une maison à notre Dieu, mais nous seuls, nous bâtirons à l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, comme nous l'a commandé le roi Cyrus, roi de Perse.
  
  4 Alors le peuple du pays rendit lâches les mains du peuple de Juda ;
  
  5 et ils leur firent peur de bâtir, et ils soudoyèrent contre eux des conseillers pour faire échouer leur plan, durant tous les jours de Cyrus, roi de Perse, et jusqu'au règne de Darius, roi de Perse.
  
  6 Et sous le règne d'Assuérus, au commencement de son règne, ils écrivirent une accusation contre les habitants de Juda et de Jérusalem.
  
  7 Et aux jours d'Artaxerxès, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeël et le reste de ses collègues, écrivirent à Artaxerxès, roi de Perse ; et la lettre était écrite en écriture syriaque et traduite en syriaque :
  
  8 Rehum, chancelier, et Shimshaï, secrétaire, écrivirent une lettre contre Jérusalem au roi Artaxerxès, en ces termes.
  
  9 Alors Rehum, chancelier, et Shimshaï, secrétaire, et le reste de leurs collègues, les Dinites, les Apharsathkites, les Tarpelites, les Apharsites, les Arkévites, les Babyloniens, les Susankites, les Déhaviens, les Élamites,
  
  10 et le reste des peuplades que le grand et noble Osnappar transporta et fit habiter dans les villes de Samarie et dans le reste du pays de ce côté du fleuve, etc...
  
  11 C'est ici la copie de la lettre qu'ils lui envoyèrent : Au roi Artaxerxès : Tes serviteurs, les hommes de ce côté du fleuve, etc.
  
  12 Que le roi sache que les Juifs qui sont montés de chez toi vers nous et sont venus à Jérusalem, bâtissent la ville rebelle et méchante, et que les murailles s'achèvent, et qu'ils restaurent les fondements.
  
  13 Que le roi sache donc que si cette ville est bâtie et que ses murailles s'achèvent, ils ne payeront ni tribut, ni impôt, ni péage, et, plus tard, cela portera préjudice aux rois.
  
  14 Or comme nous mangeons le sel du palais, et qu'il n'était pas convenable pour nous de voir qu'on faisait tort au roi, à cause de cela nous avons envoyé et nous avons informé le roi,
  
  15 afin qu'on cherche dans le livre des annales de tes pères : et tu trouveras dans le livre des annales et tu sauras que cette ville est une ville rebelle, et qu'elle a porté préjudice aux rois et aux provinces, et que, dès les jours anciens, on y a fait des séditions ; c'est pourquoi cette ville a été détruite.
  
  16 Nous faisons savoir au roi que cette ville est rebâtie et que ses murailles s'achèvent, à cause de cela, tu n'auras plus de possession de ce côté du fleuve.
  
  17 Le roi envoya un rescrit à Rehum, chancelier, et à Shimshaï, secrétaire, et au reste de leurs collègues qui habitaient à Samarie, et dans le reste du pays de l'autre côté du fleuve : Paix, etc.
  
  18 La lettre que vous nous avez envoyée a été lue exactement devant moi.
  
  19 Et de par moi un ordre a été donné, et on a cherché, et on a trouvé que, dès les jours anciens, cette ville s'est soulevée contre les rois, et qu'il s'y est fait des révoltes et des séditions,
  
  20 et qu'il y a eu sur Jérusalem de puissants rois qui ont régné sur tout ce qui est de l'autre côté du fleuve, et que le tribut, l'impôt, et le péage leur ont été payés.
  
  21 Ainsi, donnez ordre de faire cesser ces hommes, et que cette ville ne soit pas bâtie, jusqu'à ce que l'ordre en soit donné de par moi.
  
  22 Gardez-vous de manquer à faire cela : pourquoi le dommage augmenterait-il au préjudice des rois ?
  
  23 Alors, aussitôt que la copie de la lettre du roi Artaxerxès eut été lue devant Rehum et Shimshaï, le secrétaire, et leurs collègues, ils allèrent en hâte à Jérusalem vers les Juifs, et les firent cesser par force et par puissance.
  
  24 Alors le travail de la maison de Dieu qui est à Jérusalem cessa ; et il fut arrêté jusqu'à la seconde année du règne de Darius, roi de Perse.

  8 Le diable le transporte encore sur une fort haute montagne, et lui montre tous les royaumes du monde et leur gloire,
  
  9 et lui dit : Je te donnerai toutes ces choses, si, te prosternant, tu me rends hommage.
  
  10 Alors Jésus lui dit : Va-t'en, Satan car il est écrit : "Tu rendras hommage au Seigneur ton Dieu, et tu le serviras lui seul".
  
  11 Alors le diable le laisse : et voici, des anges s'approchèrent et le servirent.
  
  12 ayant ouï dire que Jean avait été livré, il se retira en Galilée ;
  
  13 et ayant quitté Nazareth, il alla demeurer à Capernaüm, qui est au bord de la mer, sur les confins de Zabulon et de Nephthali,
  
  14 afin que fût accompli ce qui avait été dit par Ésaïe le prophète, disant :
  
  15 "Terre de Zabulon, et terre de Nephthali, chemin de la mer au delà du Jourdain, Galilée des nations :
  
  16 le peuple assis dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière ; et sur ceux qui sont assis dans la région et dans l'ombre de la mort, la lumière s'est levée sur eux".
  
  17 Dès lors Jésus commença à prêcher et à dire : Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux s'est approché.
  
  18 Et comme il marchait le long de la mer de Galilée, il vit deux frères, Simon appelé Pierre, et André son frère, qui jetaient un filet dans la mer, car ils étaient pêcheurs ;
  
  19 et il leur dit : Venez après moi, et je vous ferai pêcheurs d'hommes.
  
  20 Et eux aussitôt, ayant quitté leurs filets, le suivirent.
  
  21 Et, passant de là plus avant, il vit deux autres frères, Jacques le fils de Zébédée, et Jean son frère, dans la nacelle avec Zébédée leur père, raccommodant leurs filets, et il les appela ;
  
  22 et eux aussitôt, ayant quitté la nacelle et leur père, le suivirent.
  
  23 Et Jésus allait par toute la Galilée, enseignant dans leurs synagogues, et prêchant l'évangile du royaume, et guérissant toute sorte de maladies et toute sorte de langueurs parmi le peuple.
  
  24 Et sa renommée se répandit par toute la Syrie ; et on lui amena tous ceux qui se portaient mal, qui étaient affligés de diverses maladies et de divers tourments, et des démoniaques, et des lunatiques, et des paralytiques, et il les guérit.
  
  25 Et de grandes foules le suivirent de la Galilée, et de Décapolis, et de Jérusalem, et de Judée, et de par delà le Jourdain.
