- Exode 13
  
  1 Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse, disant :
  
  2 Sanctifie-moi tout premier-né, tout ce qui ouvre la matrice parmi les fils d'Israël, tant des hommes que des bêtes ; il est à moi.
  
  3 Et Moïse dit au peuple : Souvenez-vous de ce jour, auquel vous êtes sortis d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude, car l'Éternel vous en a fait sortir à main forte ; et on ne mangera point de pain levé. Egypte (1)
  
  4 Vous sortez aujourd'hui, au mois d'Abib.
  
  5 Et quand l'Éternel t'aura fait entrer dans le pays du Cananéen, du Héthien, de l'Amoréen, du Hévien, et du Jébusien, qu'il a juré à tes pères de te donner, pays ruisselant de lait et de miel, il arrivera que tu feras ce service en ce mois-ci. Canaan
  
  6 Pendant sept jours tu mangeras des pains sans levain, et le septième jour il y aura une fête à l'Éternel.
  
  7 On mangera pendant les sept jours des pains sans levain ; et il ne se verra point chez toi de pain levé, et il ne se verra point de levain chez toi, dans tous tes confins.
  
  8 Et tu raconteras ces choses à ton fils, en ce jour-là, disant : C'est à cause de ce que l'Éternel m'a fait quand je sortis d'Égypte. Egypte (1)
  
  9 Et cela te sera un signe sur ta main, et un mémorial entre tes yeux, afin que la loi de l'Éternel soit en ta bouche, car l'Éternel t'a fait sortir d'Égypte à main forte. Egypte (1)
  
  10 Et tu garderas ce statut en sa saison, d'année en année.
  
  11 Et il arrivera, quand l'Éternel t'aura fait entrer dans le pays du Cananéen, comme il l'a juré à toi et à tes pères, et qu'il te l'aura donné,
  
  12 que tu consacreras à l'Éternel tout ce qui ouvre la matrice, et tout ce qui ouvre la portière des bêtes qui t'appartiendront : les mâles seront à l'Éternel.
  
  13 Et tout premier fruit des ânes, tu le rachèteras avec un agneau ; et si tu ne le rachètes pas, tu lui briseras la nuque. Et tout premier-né des hommes parmi tes fils, tu le rachèteras.
  
  14 Et quand ton fils t'interrogera à l'avenir, disant : Qu'est-ce que ceci ? alors tu lui diras : A main forte l'Éternel nous a fait sortir d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude. Egypte (1)
  
  15 Et il arriva, quand le Pharaon s'obstinait à ne pas nous laisser aller, que l'Éternel tua tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d'Égypte, depuis le premier-né des hommes jusqu'au premier-né des bêtes ; c'est pourquoi je sacrifie à l'Éternel tout ce qui ouvre la matrice, les mâles, et je rachète tout premier-né de mes fils.   16 Et ce sera un signe sur ta main et un fronteau entre tes yeux, car à main forte l'Éternel nous a fait sortir d'Égypte. Egypte (1)
  
  17 Et il arriva, quand le Pharaon laissa aller le peuple, que Dieu ne les conduisit pas par le chemin du pays des Philistins, qui est pourtant proche ; car Dieu dit : De peur que le peuple ne se repente lorsqu'ils verront la guerre, et qu'ils ne retournent en Égypte. Philistins Egypte (1)
  
  18 Et Dieu fit faire un détour au peuple par le chemin du désert de la mer Rouge ; et les fils d'Israël montèrent en ordre de bataille hors du pays d'Égypte. Egypte (1) Mer Rouge
  
  19 Et Moïse prit les os de Joseph avec lui, car il avait expressément fait jurer les fils d'Israël, disant : Certainement Dieu vous visitera ; et vous ferez monter mes os d'ici avec vous.
  
  20 Et ils partirent de Succoth, et campèrent à Étham, à l'extrémité du désert. Etham Succoth
  
  21 Et l'Éternel allait devant eux, de jour dans une colonne de nuée pour les conduire par le chemin, et de nuit dans une colonne de feu pour les éclairer, afin qu'ils marchassent jour et nuit :
  
  22 la colonne de nuée ne se retira point, le jour, ni la colonne de feu, la nuit, de devant le peuple.
  
  Job 31
  
  1 J'ai fait alliance avec mes yeux : et comment eussé-je arrêté mes regards sur une vierge ?
  
  2 Et quelle eût été d'en haut ma portion de la part de +Dieu, et, des hauts lieux, mon héritage de la part du Tout-puissant ?
  
  3 La calamité n'est-elle pas pour l'inique, et le malheur pour ceux qui pratiquent le mal ?
  
  4 Lui, ne voit-il pas mon chemin, et ne compte-t-il point tous mes pas ?
  
  5 Si j'ai marché avec fausseté, si mes pieds se sont hâtés vers la fraude,
  
  6 Qu'il me pèse dans la balance de justice, et +Dieu reconnaîtra ma perfection.
  
  7 Si mon pas s'est détourné du chemin, et si mon coeur a suivi mes yeux, et si quelque souillure s'est attachée à ma main,
  
  8 Que je sème et qu'un autre mange, et que mes rejetons soient déracinés !...
  
  9 Si mon coeur s'est laissé attirer vers une femme et que j'aie fait le guet à la porte de mon prochain,
  
  10 Que ma femme tourne la meule pour un autre, et que d'autres se penchent sur elle ;
  
  11 Car c'est là une infamie, et une iniquité punissable par les juges :
  
  12 Car c'est un feu qui dévore jusque dans l'abîme et qui détruirait par la racine tout mon revenu...
  
  13 Si j'ai méprisé le droit de mon serviteur ou de ma servante quand ils contestaient avec moi,
  
  14 Que ferais-je quand Dieu se lèverait ? et s'il me visitait, que lui répondrais-je ?
  
  15 Celui qui m'a fait dans le sein de ma mère, ne les a-t-il pas faits eux aussi, et un seul et même Dieu ne nous a-t-il pas formés dans la matrice ?...
  
  16 Si j'ai refusé aux misérables leur désir, si j'ai fait défaillir les yeux de la veuve ;
  
  17 Si j'ai mangé seul mon morceau, et que l'orphelin n'en ait pas mangé ; -
  
  18 Car dès ma jeunesse il m'a honoré comme un père, et dès le ventre de ma mère j'ai soutenu la veuve ;...
  
  19 Si j'ai vu quelqu'un périr faute de vêtement, et le pauvre manquer de couverture ;
  
  20 Si ses reins ne m'ont pas béni, et qu'il ne se soit pas réchauffé avec la toison de mes agneaux ;
  
  21 Si j'ai secoué ma main contre un orphelin, parce que je voyais mon appui dans la porte :
  
  22 Que mon épaule se démette de sa jointure, et que mon bras cassé se détache de l'os !
  
  23 Car la calamité de la part de Dieu m'était une frayeur, et devant sa grandeur je ne pouvais rien...
  
  24 Si j'ai mis ma confiance dans l'or, si j'ai dit à l'or fin : C'est à toi que je me fie ;
  
  25 Si je me suis réjoui de ce que mes biens étaient grands, et de ce que ma main avait beaucoup acquis ;
  
  26 Si j'ai vu le soleil quand il brillait, et la lune quand elle marchait dans sa splendeur,
  
  27 Et que mon coeur ait été séduit en secret, et que ma bouche ait baisé ma main, -
  
  28 Cela aussi serait une iniquité punissable par le juge, car j'aurais renié le Dieu qui est en haut ;...
  
  29 Si je me suis réjoui dans la calamité de celui qui me haïssait, si j'ai été ému de joie lorsque le malheur l'a trouvé ; -
  
  30 Même je n'ai pas permis à ma bouche de pécher, de demander sa vie par une exécration :...
  
  31 Si les gens de ma tente n'ont pas dit : Qui trouvera quelqu'un qui n'ait pas été rassasié de la chair de ses bêtes ? -
  
  32 L'étranger ne passait pas la nuit dehors, j'ouvrais ma porte sur le chemin ;...
  
  33 Si j'ai couvert ma transgression comme Adam, en cachant mon iniquité dans mon sein,
  
  34 Parce que je craignais la grande multitude, et que le mépris des familles me faisait peur, et que je sois resté dans le silence et ne sois pas sorti de ma porte :...
  
  35 Oh ! si j'avais quelqu'un pour m'écouter ! Voici ma signature. Que le Tout-puissant me réponde, et que ma partie adverse fasse un écrit !
  
  36 Ne le porterais-je pas sur mon épaule ? Ne le lierais-je pas sur moi comme une couronne ?
  
  37 Je lui déclarerais le nombre de mes pas ; comme un prince je m'approcherais de lui...
  
  38 Si ma terre crie contre moi, et que ses sillons pleurent ensemble,
  
  39 Si j'en ai mangé le revenu, sans argent, et que j'aie tourmenté à mort l'âme de ses possesseurs,
  
  40 Que les épines croissent au lieu de froment, et l'ivraie au lieu d'orge ! Les paroles de Job sont finies.
  
  Luc 16
  
  1 Et il dit aussi à ses disciples : Il y avait un homme riche qui avait un économe ; et celui-ci fut accusé devant lui comme dissipant ses biens.
  
  2 Et l'ayant appelé, il lui dit : Qu'est-ce que ceci que j'entends dire de toi ? Rends compte de ton administration ; car tu ne pourras plus administrer.
  
  3 Et l'économe dit en lui-même : Que ferai-je, car mon maître m'ôte l'administration ? Je ne puis pas bêcher la terre ; j'ai honte de mendier :
  
  4 sais ce que je ferai, afin que, quand je serai renvoyé de mon administration, je sois reçu dans leurs maisons.
  
  5 Et ayant appelé chacun des débiteurs de son maître, il dit au premier : Combien dois-tu à mon maître ?
  
  6 Et il dit : cent baths d'huile. Et il lui dit : Prends ton écrit, et assieds-toi promptement et écris cinquante.
  
  7 Puis il dit à un autre : Et toi, combien dois-tu ? Et il dit : cent cors de froment. Et il lui dit : Prends ton écrit, et écris quatre-vingt.
  
  8 Et le maître loua l'économe injuste parce qu'il avait agi prudemment. Car les fils de ce siècle sont plus prudents, par rapport à leur propre génération, que les fils de la lumière.
  
  9 Et moi, je vous dis : Faites-vous des amis avec les richesses injustes, afin que, quand vous viendrez à manquer, vous soyez reçus dans le tabernacles éternels.
  
  10 Celui qui est fidèle dans ce qui est très-petit, est fidèle aussi dans ce qui est grand ; et celui qui est injuste dans ce qui est très-petit, et injuste aussi dans ce qui est grand.
  
  11 Si donc vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans les richesses injustes, qui vous confiera les vraies ?
  
  12 Et si, dans ce qui est à autrui, vous n'avez pas été fidèles, qui vous donnera ce qui est vôtre ?
  
  13 Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres ; car ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre : vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et les richesses.
  
  14 Et les pharisiens aussi, qui étaient avares, entendirent toutes ces choses, et il se moquèrent de lui.
  
  15 Et il leur dit : Vous êtes ceux qui se justifient eux-mêmes devant les hommes ; mais Dieu connaît vos coeurs : car ce qui est haut estimé parmi les hommes est une abomination devant Dieu.
  
  16 La loi et les prophètes ont été jusqu'à Jean ; dès lors le royaume de Dieu est annoncé et chacun use de violence pour y entrer.
  
  17 Or il est plus facile que le ciel et la terre passent, qu'il ne l'est qu'un seul trait de lettre de la loi tombe.
  
  18 Quiconque répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre, commet adultère ; et quiconque épouse une femme répudiée par son mari, commet adultère.
  
  19 Or il y avait un homme riche qui se vêtait de pourpre et de fin lin, et qui faisait joyeuse chère, chaque jour, splendidement.
  
  20 Et il y avait un pauvre, nommé Lazare, couché à sa porte, tout couvert d'ulcères,
  
  21 qui désirait de se rassasier des miettes qui tombaient de la table du riche ; mais les chiens aussi venaient lécher ses ulcères.
  
  22 Et il arriva que le pauvre mourut, et qu'il fut porté par les anges dans le sein d'Abraham. Et le riche aussi mourut, et fut enseveli.
  
  23 Et, en hadès, levant ses yeux, comme il était dans les tourments, il voit de loin Abraham, et Lazare dans son sein.
  
  24 Et s'écriant, il dit : Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi et envoie Lazare, afin qu'il trempe dans l'eau le bout de son doigt, et qu'il rafraîchisse ma langue, car je suis tourmenté dans cette flamme.
  
  25 Mais Abraham dit : Mon enfant, souviens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens pendant ta vie, et Lazare pareillement les maux ; et maintenant lui est consolé ici, et toi tu es tourmenté.
  
  26 Et outre tout cela, un grand gouffre est fermement établi entre nous et vous ; en sorte que ceux qui veulent passer d'ici vers vous ne le peuvent, et que ceux qui veulent passer de là ne traversent pas non plus vers nous.
  
  27 Et il dit : Je te prie donc, père, de l'envoyer dans la maison de mon père,
  
  28 j'ai cinq frères, en sorte qu'il les adjure ; de peur qu'eux aussi ne viennent dans ce lieu de tourment.
  
  29 Mais Abraham lui dit : Ils ont Moïse et les prophètes ; qu'ils les écoutent.
  
  30 Mais il dit : Non, père Abraham ; mais si quelqu'un va des morts vers eux, ils se repentiront.
  
  31 Et il lui dit : S'ils n'écoutent pas Moïse et les prophètes, ils ne seront pas persuadés non plus si quelqu'un ressuscitait d'entre les morts.
- Exode 13
  
  1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
  
  2 "Sanctify to me all of the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of animal. It is mine."
  
  3 Moses said to the people, "Remember this day, in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.
  
  4 This day you go out in the month Abib.
  
  5 It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.
  
  6 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to Yahweh.
  
  7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and no leavened bread shall be seen with you, neither shall yeast be seen with you, in all your borders.
  
  8 You shall tell your son in that day, saying, 'It is because of that which Yahweh did for me when I came out of Egypt.'
  
  9 It shall be for a sign to you on your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that the law of Yahweh may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand Yahweh has brought you out of Egypt.
  
  10 You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.
  
  11 "It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your fathers, and shall give it you,
  
  12 that you shall set apart to Yahweh all that opens the womb, and every firstborn which you have that comes from an animal. The males shall be Yahweh's.
  
  13 Every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and you shall redeem all the firstborn of man among your sons.
  
  14 It shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, 'What is this?' that you shall tell him, 'By strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage;
  
  15 and it happened, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that Yahweh killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of animal. Therefore I sacrifice to Yahweh all that opens the womb, being males; but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.'
  
  16 It shall be for a sign on your hand, and for symbols between your eyes: for by strength of hand Yahweh brought us out of Egypt."
  
  17 It happened, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God didn't lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, "Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt";
  
  18 but God led the people around by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea ; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.
  
  19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the children of Israel swear, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones away from here with you."
  
  20 They took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.
  
  21 Yahweh went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them on their way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night:
  
  22 the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, didn't depart from before the people.
  
  Job 31
  
  1 "I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?
  
  2 For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from the Almighty on high?
  
  3 Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?
  
  4 Doesn't he see my ways, and number all my steps?
  
  5 "If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit
  
  6 (let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);
  
  7 if my step has turned out of the way, if my heart walked after my eyes, if any defilement has stuck to my hands,
  
  8 then let me sow, and let another eat. Yes, let the produce of my field be rooted out.
  
  9 "If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbor's door,
  
  10 then let my wife grind for another, and let others sleep with her.
  
  11 For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges:
  
  12 For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase.
  
  13 "If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me;
  
  14 What then shall I do when God rises up? When he visits, what shall I answer him?
  
  15 Didn't he who made me in the womb make him? Didn't one fashion us in the womb?
  
  16 "If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
  
  17 or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it
  
  18 (no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, her have I guided from my mother's womb);
  
  19 if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;
  
  20 if his heart hasn't blessed me, if he hasn't been warmed with my sheep's fleece;
  
  21 if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,
  
  22 then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.
  
  23 For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because his majesty, I can do nothing.
  
  24 "If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, 'You are my confidence;'
  
  25 If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;
  
  26 if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor,
  
  27 and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth,
  
  28 this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have denied the God who is above.
  
  29 "If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him;
  
  30 (yes, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);
  
  31 if the men of my tent have not said, 'Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?'
  
  32 (the foreigner has not lodged in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);
  
  33 if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,
  
  34 because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and didn't go out of the door--
  
  35 oh that I had one to hear me! (behold, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me); let the accuser write my indictment!
  
  36 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; and I would bind it to me as a crown.
  
  37 I would declare to him the number of my steps. as a prince would I go near to him.
  
  38 If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together;
  
  39 if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life,
  
  40 let briars grow instead of wheat, and stinkweed instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.
  
  Luc 16
  
  1 He also said to his disciples, "There was a certain rich man who had a manager. An accusation was made to him that this man was wasting his possessions.
  
  2 He called him, and said to him, 'What is this that I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.'
  
  3 "The manager said within himself, 'What will I do, seeing that my lord is taking away the management position from me? I don't have strength to dig. I am ashamed to beg.
  
  4 I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from management, they may receive me into their houses.'
  
  5 Calling each one of his lord's debtors to him, he said to the first, 'How much do you owe to my lord?'
  
  6 He said, 'A hundred batos of oil.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.'
  
  7 Then he said to another, 'How much do you owe?' He said, 'A hundred cors of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'
  
  8 "His lord commended the dishonest manager because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are, in their own generation, wiser than the children of the light.
  
  9 I tell you, make for yourselves friends by means of unrighteous mammon, so that when you fail, they may receive you into the eternal tents.
  
  10 He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
  
  11 If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
  
  12 If you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?
  
  13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. You aren't able to serve God and mammon ."
  
  14 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.
  
  15 He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
  
  16 The law and the prophets were until John. From that time the Good News of the Kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
  
  17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tiny stroke of a pen in the law to fall.
  
  18 Everyone who divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery. He who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.
  
  19 "Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.
  
  20 A certain beggar, named Lazarus, was laid at his gate, full of sores,
  
  21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores.
  
  22 It happened that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried.
  
  23 In Hades , he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom.
  
  24 He cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.'
  
  25 "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But now here he is comforted and you are in anguish.
  
  26 Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that none may cross over from there to us.'
  
  27 "He said, 'I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house;
  
  28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, so they won't also come into this place of torment.'
  
  29 "But Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.'
  
  30 "He said, 'No, father Abraham, but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'
  
  31 "He said to him, 'If they don't listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if one rises from the dead.'"
