    • Exode 16

      1 Et ils partirent d'Élim, toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël, et vinrent au désert de Sin, qui est entre Élim et Sinaï, le quinzième jour du second mois après leur sortie du pays d'Égypte. Sinaï Sin (désert De) Tsin Egypte (1) Elim
      2 Et toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël murmura contre Moïse et contre Aaron, dans le désert.
      3 Et les fils d'Israël leur dirent : Ah ! que ne sommes-nous morts par la main de l'Éternel dans le pays d'Égypte, quand nous étions assis auprès des pots de chair, quand nous mangions du pain à satiété ! Car vous nous avez fait sortir dans ce désert pour faire mourir de faim toute cette congrégation. Egypte (1)
      4 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse : Voici, je vais vous faire pleuvoir des cieux du pain, et le peuple sortira, et en recueillera chaque jour la portion d'un jour, afin que je l'éprouve, pour voir s'il marchera dans ma loi, ou non.
      5 Et il arrivera que, le sixième jour, ils prépareront ce qu'ils auront rapporté, et ce sera le double de ce qu'ils recueilleront chaque jour.
      6 Et Moïse et Aaron dirent à tous les fils d'Israël : Au soir vous saurez que l'Éternel vous a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte ; Egypte (1)
      7 et, au matin, vous verrez la gloire de l'Éternel, parce qu'il a entendu vos murmures contre l'Éternel ; car que sommes-nous, que vous murmuriez contre nous ?
      8 Et Moïse dit : Ce sera en ce que l'Éternel vous donnera le soir de la chair à manger, et au matin du pain à satiété ; parce que l'Éternel a entendu vos murmures que vous avez proférés contre lui ; car que sommes-nous ? Vos murmures ne sont pas contre nous, mais contre l'Éternel.
      9 Et Moïse dit à Aaron : Dis à toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël : Approchez-vous devant l'Éternel ; car il a entendu vos murmures.
      10 Et il arriva, comme Aaron parlait à toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël, qu'ils se tournèrent vers le désert ; et voici, la gloire de l'Éternel parut dans la nuée.
      11 Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse, disant :
      12 J'ai entendu les murmures des fils d'Israël. Parle-leur, disant : Entre les deux soirs vous mangerez de la chair, et au matin vous serez rassasiés de pain ; et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
      13 Et il arriva, le soir, que des cailles montèrent et couvrirent le camp ; et, au matin, il y eut une couche de rosée autour du camp ;
      14 et la couche de rosée se leva, et voici sur la surface du désert quelque chose de menu, de grenu, quelque chose de menu comme la gelée blanche sur la terre.
      15 Et les fils d'Israël le virent, et se dirent l'un à l'autre : Qu'est-ce que cela ? Car ils ne savaient ce que c'était. Et Moïse leur dit : C'est le pain que l'Éternel vous a donné à manger.
      16 Voici la parole que l'Éternel a commandée : Recueillez-en, chacun en proportion de ce qu'il peut manger, un omer par tête, selon le nombre de vos personnes ; vous en prendrez chacun pour ceux qui sont dans sa tente.
      17 Et les fils d'Israël firent ainsi, et ils recueillirent, l'un beaucoup, l'autre peu.
      18 Et ils mesurèrent à l'omer : et celui qui avait beaucoup, n'eut pas trop ; et celui qui avait peu, n'en manqua pas ; ils avaient recueilli, chacun en proportion de ce qu'il mangeait.
      19 Et Moïse leur dit : Que personne n'en laisse de reste jusqu'au matin.
      20 Mais ils n'écoutèrent pas Moïse, et quelques-uns d'entre eux en laissèrent de reste jusqu'au matin ; et il s'y engendra des vers, et cela puait : et Moïse se mit en colère contre eux.
      21 Et ils en recueillaient chaque matin, chacun en proportion de ce qu'il mangeait ; et à la chaleur du soleil cela fondait.
      22 Et il arriva que, le sixième jour, ils recueillirent du pain au double, deux omers pour chacun ; et tous les principaux de l'assemblée vinrent et le rapportèrent à Moïse.
      23 Et il leur dit : C'est ici ce que l'Éternel a dit : Demain est le repos, le sabbat consacré à l'Éternel ; faites cuire ce que vous avez à cuire, et faites bouillir ce que vous avez à faire bouillir, et tout le surplus serrez-le pour vous, pour le garder jusqu'au matin.
      24 Et ils le serrèrent jusqu'au matin, comme Moïse l'avait commandé ; et cela ne pua point, et il n'y eut point de vers dedans.
      25 Et Moïse dit : Mangez-le aujourd'hui, car aujourd'hui est le sabbat consacré à l'Éternel ; aujourd'hui vous n'en trouverez point aux champs.
      26 six jours vous en recueillerez, mais au septième jour est le sabbat ; il n'y en aura point en ce jour-là.
      27 Et il arriva, le septième jour, que quelques-uns du peuple sortirent pour en recueillir, et ils n'en trouvèrent point.
      28 Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse : Jusques à quand refuserez-vous de garder mes commandements et mes lois ?
      29 Voyez que l'Éternel vous a donné le sabbat ; c'est pourquoi il vous donne au sixième jour du pain pour deux jours. Que chacun reste chez lui ; que personne ne sorte du lieu où il est, le septième jour.
      30 Et le peuple se reposa le septième jour.
      31 Et la maison d'Israël appela le nom de cela manne. Et elle était comme de la semence de coriandre, blanche, et avait le goût du gâteau au miel.
      32 Et Moïse dit : Voici la parole que l'Éternel a commandée : Qu'on en remplisse un omer pour le garder pour vos générations, afin qu'elles voient le pain que je vous ai fait manger dans le désert, lorsque je vous ai fait sortir du pays d'Égypte. Egypte (1)
      33 Et Moïse dit à Aaron : Prends une cruche, et mets-y plein un omer de manne, et pose-la devant l'Éternel, pour la garder pour vos générations.
      34 Comme l'Éternel l'avait commandé à Moïse, Aaron la posa devant le témoignage pour être gardée.
      35 Et les fils d'Israël mangèrent la manne quarante ans, jusqu'à ce qu'ils entrèrent dans un pays habité ; ils mangèrent la manne jusqu'à leur arrivée à la frontière du pays de Canaan. Canaan
      36 Or l'omer est la dixième partie de l'épha.

      Job 34

      1 Et Élihu reprit la parole et dit :
      2 Sages, écoutez mes paroles, et vous qui avez de la connaissance, prêtez-moi l'oreille ;
      3 Car l'oreille éprouve les discours, comme le palais goûte les aliments.
      4 Choisissons pour nous ce qui est juste, et reconnaissons entre nous ce qui est bon.
      5 Car Job a dit : Je suis juste, et Dieu a écarté mon droit ;
      6 Mentirai-je contre ma droiture ? ma blessure est incurable, sans qu'il y ait de transgression.
      7 Qui est l'homme qui soit comme Job ? Il boit la moquerie comme l'eau ;
      8 Il marche dans la compagnie des ouvriers d'iniquité, et il chemine avec les hommes méchants.
      9 Car il a dit : Il ne profite de rien à l'homme de trouver son plaisir en Dieu.
      10 C'est pourquoi, hommes de sens, écoutez-moi : Loin de Dieu la méchanceté, et loin du Tout-puissant l'iniquité !
      11 Car il rendra à l'homme ce qu'il aura fait, et il fera trouver à chacun selon sa voie.
      12 Certainement Dieu n'agit pas injustement, et le Tout-puissant ne pervertit pas le droit.
      13 Qui a confié la terre à ses soins, et qui a placé le monde entier sous lui ?
      14 S'il ne pensait qu'à lui-même et retirait à lui son esprit et son souffle,
      15 Toute chair expirerait ensemble et l'homme retournerait à la poussière.
      16 Si tu as de l'intelligence, écoute ceci ; prête l'oreille à la voix de mes paroles.
      17 Celui qui hait la justice gouvernera-t-il donc ? Et condamneras-tu le juste par excellence ?
      18 Dira-t-on Bélial, au roi ? -Méchants, aux nobles ?
      19 Combien moins à celui qui ne fait pas acception de la personne des princes, et qui n'a pas égard au riche plutôt qu'au pauvre ; car ils sont tous l'oeuvre de ses mains.
      20 Ils mourront en un moment ; au milieu de la nuit les peuples chancellent et s'en vont, et les puissants sont retirés sans main.
      21 Car ses yeux sont sur les voies de l'homme, et il voit tous ses pas.
      22 Il n'y a pas de ténèbres, il n'y a pas d'ombre de la mort, où se puissent cacher les ouvriers d'iniquité.
      23 Car il ne pense pas longtemps à un homme pour le faire venir devant Dieu en jugement.
      24 Il brise les puissants, sans examen, et il fait que d'autres se tiennent à leur place ;
      25 En effet il connaît leurs oeuvres : il les renverse de nuit, et ils sont écrasés.
      26 Il les frappe comme des méchants dans le lieu où ils sont en vue,
      27 Parce qu'ils se sont retirés de lui, et qu'ils n'ont pas considéré toutes ses voies,
      28 Pour faire monter vers lui le cri du pauvre, en sorte qu'il entende le cri des malheureux.
      29 Quand il donne la tranquillité, qui troublera ? Il cache sa face, et qui le verra ? Il fait ainsi, soit à une nation, soit à un homme,
      30 Pour empêcher l'homme impie de régner, pour écarter du peuple les pièges.
      31 Car a-t-il jamais dit à Dieu : Je porte ma peine, je ne ferai plus de mal ;
      32 Ce que je ne vois pas, montre-le-moi ; si j'ai commis l'iniquité, je ne le referai pas ?
      33 Rétribuera-t-il selon tes pensées ? car tu as rejeté son jugement, car toi, tu as choisi, et non pas moi ; ce que tu sais, dis-le donc.
      34 Les hommes de sens me diront, et un homme sage qui m'écoute :
      35 Job n'a pas parlé avec connaissance, et ses paroles ne sont pas intelligentes ;
      36 Je voudrais que Job fût éprouvé jusqu'au bout, parce qu'il a répondu à la manière des hommes iniques ;
      37 Car il a ajouté à son péché la transgression ; il bat des mains parmi nous, et multiplie ses paroles contre Dieu.

      Luc 19

      1 Et il entra dans Jéricho, et traversa la ville. Jérico
      2 Et voici, un homme appelé du nom de Zachée : et il était chef de publicains, et il était riche ;
      3 et il cherchait à voir Jésus, quel il était ; et il ne pouvait, à cause de la foule, car il était petit de taille.
      4 Et courant en avant, il monta sur un sycomore pour le voir ; car il allait passer là.
      5 Et quand il fut venu à cet endroit, Jésus regardant, le vit, et lui dit : Zachée, descends vite ; car il faut que je demeure aujourd'hui dans ta maison.
      6 Et il descendit à la hâte, et le reçut avec joie.
      7 Et voyant cela, tous murmuraient, disant qu'il était entré chez un pécheur pour y loger.
      8 Et Zachée, se tenant là, dit au Seigneur : Voici, Seigneur, je donne la moitié de mes biens aux pauvres ; et si j'ai fait tort à quelqu'un par une fausse accusation, je lui rends le quadruple.
      9 Et Jésus lui dit : Aujourd'hui le salut est venu à cette maison, vu que lui aussi est fils d'Abraham ;
      10 car le fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu.
      11 Et comme ils entendaient ces choses, il ajouta et leur dit une parabole, parce qu'il était près de Jérusalem, et qu'ils pensaient que le royaume de Dieu allait immédiatement paraître. Jérusalem
      12 Il dit donc : Un homme noble s'en alla dans un pays éloigné, pour recevoir un royaume et revenir.
      13 Et ayant appelé dix de ses propres esclaves, il leur donna dix mines, et leur dit : Trafiquez jusqu'à ce que je vienne.
      14 Or ses concitoyens le haïssaient ; et ils envoyèrent après lui une ambassade, disant : Nous ne voulons pas que celui-ci règne sur nous.
      15 Et il arriva, à son retour, après qu'il eut reçu le royaume, qu'il commanda d'appeler auprès de lui ces esclaves auxquels il avait donné l'argent, afin qu'il sût combien chacun aurait gagné par son trafic.
      16 Et le premier se présenta, disant : Maître, ta mine a produit dix mines.
      17 Et il lui dit : Bien, bon esclave, parce que tu as été fidèle en ce qui est très-peu de chose, aie autorité sur dix villes.
      18 Et le second vint, disant : Maître, ta mine a produit cinq mines.
      19 Et il dit aussi à celui-ci : Et toi, sois établi sur cinq villes.
      20 Et un autre vint, disant : Maître, voici ta mine, que j'ai gardée déposée dans un linge ;
      21 car je t'ai craint, parce que tu es un homme sévère : tu prends ce que tu n'as pas mis, et tu moissonnes ce que tu n'as pas semé.
      22 Il lui dit : Je te jugerai par ta propre parole, méchant esclave : tu savais que moi je suis un homme sévère, prenant ce que je n'ai pas mis et moissonnant ce que je n'ai pas semé ;
      23 et pourquoi n'as-tu pas mis mon argent à la banque, et quand je serais venu je l'eusse retiré avec l'intérêt ?
      24 Et il dit à ceux qui étaient présents : Otez-lui la mine et donnez-la à celui qui a les dix mines.
      25 -Et ils lui dirent : Seigneur, il a dix mines.
      26 -Car je vous dis qu'à quiconque a, il sera donné ; et à celui qui n'a pas, cela même qu'il a lui sera ôté.
      27 Mais ceux-là, mes ennemis, qui n'ont pas voulu que je régnasse sur eux, amenez-les ici et tuez-les devant moi.
      28 Et ayant dit ces choses, il allait devant eux, montant à Jérusalem. Jérusalem Jérico
      29 Et il arriva, comme il approchait de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, vers la montagne appelée des Oliviers, qu'il envoya deux de ses disciples, disant : Bethphagé Béthanie Oliviers (mont Des)
      30 Allez au village qui est vis-à-vis ; et y étant entrés, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel jamais aucun homme ne s'assit ; détachez-le, et amenez-le.
      31 Et si quelqu'un vous demande pourquoi vous le détachez, vous lui direz ainsi : Le Seigneur en a besoin.
      32 Et ceux qui étaient envoyés, s'en allant, trouvèrent tout comme il le leur avait dit.
      33 Et comme ils détachaient l'ânon, les maîtres de celui-ci leur dirent : Pourquoi détachez-vous l'ânon ?
      34 Et ils dirent : Parce que le Seigneur en a besoin.
      35 Et ils l'amenèrent à Jésus ; et ayant jeté leurs vêtements sur l'ânon, ils mirent Jésus dessus.
      36 Et comme il allait son chemin, ils étendaient leurs vêtements sur le chemin.
      37 Et comme il approchait déjà, à la descente de la montagne des Oliviers, toute la multitude des disciples, se réjouissant, se mit à louer Dieu à haute voix pour tous les miracles qu'ils avaient vus, Bethphagé Oliviers (mont Des)
      38 disant : Béni soit le roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur ! Paix au ciel, et gloire dans les lieux très-hauts !
      39 Et quelques-uns des pharisiens lui dirent du milieu de la foule : Maître, reprends tes disciples.
      40 Et répondant, il leur dit : Je vous dis que si ceux-ci se taisent, les pierres crieront.
      41 Et quand il fut proche, voyant la ville, il pleura sur elle, disant :
      42 Si tu eusses connu, toi aussi, au moins en cette tienne journée, les choses qui appartiennent à ta paix ! mais maintenant elles sont cachées devant tes yeux.
      43 Car des jours viendront sur toi, où tes ennemis t'entoureront de tranchées, et t'environneront, et te serreront de tous côtés,
      44 et te renverseront par terre, toi et tes enfants au dedans de toi ; et ils ne laisseront pas en toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n'as point connu le temps de ta visitation.
      45 Et il entra au temple, et se mit à chasser dehors ceux qui y vendaient et qui y achetaient,
      46 leur disant : Il est écrit :" Ma maison est une maison de prière " ; mais vous, vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs.
      47 Et il enseignait tous les jours dans le temple ; et les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, et les principaux du peuple, tâchaient de le faire mourir.
      48 Et ils ne trouvaient rien qu'ils pussent faire ; car tout le peuple se tenait suspendu à ses lèvres pour l'entendre.

    • Exode 16

      1 They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
      2 The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;
      3 and the children of Israel said to them, "We wish that we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."
      4 Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from the sky for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.
      5 It shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily."
      6 Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, "At evening, then you shall know that Yahweh has brought you out from the land of Egypt;
      7 and in the morning, then you shall see the glory of Yahweh; because he hears your murmurings against Yahweh. Who are we, that you murmur against us?"
      8 Moses said, "Now Yahweh shall give you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfy you; because Yahweh hears your murmurings which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahweh."
      9 Moses said to Aaron, "Tell all the congregation of the children of Israel, 'Come near before Yahweh, for he has heard your murmurings.'"
      10 It happened, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud.
      11 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
      12 "I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, 'At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread: and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God.'"
      13 It happened at evening that quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay around the camp.
      14 When the dew that lay had gone, behold, on the surface of the wilderness was a small round thing, small as the frost on the ground.
      15 When the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, "What is it?" For they didn't know what it was. Moses said to them, "It is the bread which Yahweh has given you to eat."
      16 This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded: "Gather of it everyone according to his eating; an omer a head, according to the number of your persons, you shall take it, every man for those who are in his tent."
      17 The children of Israel did so, and gathered some more, some less.
      18 When they measured it with an omer, he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack. They gathered every man according to his eating.
      19 Moses said to them, "Let no one leave of it until the morning."
      20 Notwithstanding they didn't listen to Moses, but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and became foul: and Moses was angry with them.
      21 They gathered it morning by morning, everyone according to his eating. When the sun grew hot, it melted.
      22 It happened that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one, and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
      23 He said to them, "This is that which Yahweh has spoken, 'Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to Yahweh. Bake that which you want to bake, and boil that which you want to boil; and all that remains over lay up for yourselves to be kept until the morning.'"
      24 They laid it up until the morning, as Moses asked, and it didn't become foul, neither was there any worm in it.
      25 Moses said, "Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahweh. Today you shall not find it in the field.
      26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is the Sabbath. In it there shall be none."
      27 It happened on the seventh day, that some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.
      28 Yahweh said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?
      29 Behold, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no one go out of his place on the seventh day."
      30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
      31 The house of Israel called its name Manna, and it was like coriander seed, white; and its taste was like wafers with honey.
      32 Moses said, "This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, 'Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.'"
      33 Moses said to Aaron, "Take a pot, and put an omer-full of manna in it, and lay it up before Yahweh, to be kept throughout your generations."
      34 As Yahweh commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
      35 The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.
      36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

      Job 34

      1 Moreover Elihu answered,
      2 "Hear my words, you wise men. Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.
      3 For the ear tries words, as the palate tastes food.
      4 Let us choose for us that which is right. Let us know among ourselves what is good.
      5 For Job has said, 'I am righteous, God has taken away my right:
      6 Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.'
      7 What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water,
      8 Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men?
      9 For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.'
      10 "Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
      11 For the work of a man he will render to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
      12 Yes surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
      13 Who put him in charge of the earth? or who has appointed him over the whole world?
      14 If he set his heart on himself, If he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,
      15 all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.
      16 "If now you have understanding, hear this. Listen to the voice of my words.
      17 Shall even one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty?--
      18 Who says to a king, 'Vile!' or to nobles, 'Wicked!'?
      19 Who doesn't respect the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.
      20 In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.
      21 "For his eyes are on the ways of a man. He sees all his goings.
      22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
      23 For he doesn't need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
      24 He breaks in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out, and sets others in their place.
      25 Therefore he takes knowledge of their works. He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
      26 He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
      27 because they turned aside from following him, and wouldn't pay attention to any of his ways,
      28 so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him. He heard the cry of the afflicted.
      29 When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? Alike whether to a nation, or to a man,
      30 that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.
      31 "For has any said to God, 'I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.
      32 Teach me that which I don't see. If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'?
      33 Shall his recompense be as you desire, that you refuse it? For you must choose, and not I. Therefore speak what you know.
      34 Men of understanding will tell me, yes, every wise man who hears me:
      35 'Job speaks without knowledge. His words are without wisdom.'
      36 I wish that Job were tried to the end, because of his answering like wicked men.
      37 For he adds rebellion to his sin. He claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God."

      Luc 19

      1 He entered and was passing through Jericho.
      2 There was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.
      3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, and couldn't because of the crowd, because he was short.
      4 He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.
      5 When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house."
      6 He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully.
      7 When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, "He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner."
      8 Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much."
      9 Jesus said to him, "Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
      10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost."
      11 As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the Kingdom of God would be revealed immediately.
      12 He said therefore, "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
      13 He called ten servants of his, and gave them ten mina coins, and told them, 'Conduct business until I come.'
      14 But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, 'We don't want this man to reign over us.'
      15 "It happened when he had come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business.
      16 The first came before him, saying, 'Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.'
      17 "He said to him, 'Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.'
      18 "The second came, saying, 'Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.'
      19 "So he said to him, 'And you are to be over five cities.'
      20 Another came, saying, 'Lord, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief,
      21 for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn't lay down, and reap that which you didn't sow.'
      22 "He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn't lay down, and reaping that which I didn't sow.
      23 Then why didn't you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?'
      24 He said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina away from him, and give it to him who has the ten minas.'
      25 "They said to him, 'Lord, he has ten minas!'
      26 'For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn't have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.
      27 But bring those enemies of mine who didn't want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.'"
      28 Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
      29 It happened, when he drew near to Bethsphage and Bethany, at the mountain that is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,
      30 saying, "Go your way into the village on the other side, in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat. Untie it, and bring it.
      31 If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' say to him: 'The Lord needs it.'"
      32 Those who were sent went away, and found things just as he had told them.
      33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, "Why are you untying the colt?"
      34 They said, "The Lord needs it."
      35 They brought it to Jesus. They threw their cloaks on the colt, and set Jesus on them.
      36 As he went, they spread their cloaks in the way.
      37 As he was now getting near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen,
      38 saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!"
      39 Some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!"
      40 He answered them, "I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out."
      41 When he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it,
      42 saying, "If you, even you, had known today the things which belong to your peace! But now, they are hidden from your eyes.
      43 For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side,
      44 and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you didn't know the time of your visitation."
      45 He entered into the temple, and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it,
      46 saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of robbers'!"
      47 He was teaching daily in the temple, but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people sought to destroy him.
      48 They couldn't find what they might do, for all the people hung on to every word that he said.
