  1 וַֽעֲתַלְיָה֙ אֵ֣ם אֲחַזְיָ֔הוּ *וראתה **רָאֲתָ֖ה כִּ֣י מֵ֣ת בְּנָ֑הּ וַתָּ֙קָם֙ וַתְּאַבֵּ֔ד אֵ֖ת כָּל־זֶ֥רַע הַמַּמְלָכָֽה׃

  3 וַיְהִ֤י אִתָּהּ֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה מִתְחַבֵּ֖א שֵׁ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים וַעֲתַלְיָ֖ה מֹלֶ֥כֶת עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃
  
  4 וּבַשָּׁנָ֣ה הַ֠שְּׁבִיעִית שָׁלַ֨ח יְהוֹיָדָ֜ע וַיִּקַּ֣ח ׀ אֶת־שָׂרֵ֣י *המאיות **הַמֵּא֗וֹת לַכָּרִי֙ וְלָ֣רָצִ֔ים וַיָּבֵ֥א אֹתָ֛ם אֵלָ֖יו בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּכְרֹת֩ לָהֶ֨ם בְּרִ֜ית וַיַּשְׁבַּ֤ע אֹתָם֙ בְּבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וַיַּ֥רְא אֹתָ֖ם אֶת־בֶּן־הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
  
  5 וַיְצַוֵּ֣ם לֵאמֹ֔ר זֶ֥ה הַדָּבָ֖ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר תַּעֲשׂ֑וּן הַשְּׁלִשִׁ֤ית מִכֶּם֙ בָּאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת וְשֹׁ֣מְרֵ֔י מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת בֵּ֥ית הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
  
  6 וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית֙ בְּשַׁ֣עַר ס֔וּר וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֥ית בַּשַּׁ֖עַר אַחַ֣ר הָרָצִ֑ים וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֛ם אֶת־מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת הַבַּ֖יִת מַסָּֽח׃
  
  7 וּשְׁתֵּ֤י הַיָּדוֹת֙ בָּכֶ֔ם כֹּ֖ל יֹצְאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת וְשָֽׁמְר֛וּ אֶת־מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת בֵּית־יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
  
  8 וְהִקַּפְתֶּ֨ם עַל־הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ סָבִ֗יב אִ֚ישׁ וְכֵלָ֣יו בְּיָד֔וֹ וְהַבָּ֥א אֶל־הַשְּׂדֵר֖וֹת יוּמָ֑ת וִהְי֥וּ אֶת־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ בְּצֵאת֥וֹ וּבְבֹאֽוֹ׃
  
  9 וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֞וּ שָׂרֵ֣י *המאיות **הַמֵּא֗וֹת כְּכֹ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּה֮ יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע הַכֹּהֵן֒ וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת־אֲנָשָׁ֔יו בָּאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֔ת עִ֖ם יֹצְאֵ֣י הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ אֶל־יְהוֹיָדָ֥ע הַכֹּהֵֽן׃
  
  10 וַיִּתֵּ֨ן הַכֹּהֵ֜ן לְשָׂרֵ֣י *המאיות **הַמֵּא֗וֹת אֶֽת־הַחֲנִית֙ וְאֶת־הַשְּׁלָטִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֑ד אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּבֵ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  11 וַיַּעַמְד֨וּ הָרָצִ֜ים אִ֣ישׁ ׀ וְכֵלָ֣יו בְּיָד֗וֹ מִכֶּ֨תֶף הַבַּ֤יִת הַיְמָנִית֙ עַד־כֶּ֤תֶף הַבַּ֙יִת֙ הַשְּׂמָאלִ֔ית לַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ וְלַבָּ֑יִת עַל־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ סָבִֽיב׃
  
  12 וַיּוֹצִ֣א אֶת־בֶּן־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וַיִּתֵּ֤ן עָלָיו֙ אֶת־הַנֵּ֙זֶר֙ וְאֶת־הָ֣עֵד֔וּת וַיַּמְלִ֥כוּ אֹת֖וֹ וַיִּמְשָׁחֻ֑הוּ וַיַּכּוּ־כָ֔ף וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ יְחִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃
  
  13 וַתִּשְׁמַ֣ע עֲתַלְיָ֔ה אֶת־ק֥וֹל הָֽרָצִ֖ין הָעָ֑ם וַתָּבֹ֥א אֶל־הָעָ֖ם בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  14 וַתֵּ֡רֶא וְהִנֵּ֣ה הַמֶּלֶךְ֩ עֹמֵ֨ד עַֽל־הָעַמּ֜וּד כַּמִּשְׁפָּ֗ט וְהַשָּׂרִ֤ים וְהַחֲצֹֽצְרוֹת֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְכָל־עַ֤ם הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ שָׂמֵ֔חַ וְתֹקֵ֖עַ בַּחֲצֹֽצְר֑וֹת וַתִּקְרַ֤ע עֲתַלְיָה֙ אֶת־בְּגָדֶ֔יהָ וַתִּקְרָ֖א קֶ֥שֶׁר קָֽשֶׁר׃
  
  15 וַיְצַו֩ יְהוֹיָדָ֨ע הַכֹּהֵ֜ן אֶת־שָׂרֵ֥י *המיאות **הַמֵּא֣וֹת ׀ פְּקֻדֵ֣י הַחַ֗יִל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם֙ הוֹצִ֤יאוּ אֹתָהּ֙ אֶל־מִבֵּ֣ית לַשְּׂדֵרֹ֔ת וְהַבָּ֥א אַחֲרֶ֖יהָ הָמֵ֣ת בֶּחָ֑רֶב כִּ֚י אָמַ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן אַל־תּוּמַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  16 וַיָּשִׂ֤מוּ לָהּ֙ יָדַ֔יִם וַתָּב֛וֹא דֶּֽרֶךְ־מְב֥וֹא הַסּוּסִ֖ים בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַתּוּמַ֖ת שָֽׁם׃
  
  17 וַיִּכְרֹ֨ת יְהוֹיָדָ֜ע אֶֽת־הַבְּרִ֗ית בֵּ֤ין יְהוָה֙ וּבֵ֤ין הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וּבֵ֣ין הָעָ֔ם לִהְי֥וֹת לְעָ֖ם לַֽיהוָ֑ה וּבֵ֥ין הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וּבֵ֥ין הָעָֽם׃
  
  18 וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ כָל־עַם֩ הָאָ֨רֶץ בֵּית־הַבַּ֜עַל וַֽיִּתְּצֻ֗הוּ אֶת־*מזבחתו **מִזְבְּחֹתָ֤יו וְאֶת־צְלָמָיו֙ שִׁבְּר֣וּ הֵיטֵ֔ב וְאֵ֗ת מַתָּן֙ כֹּהֵ֣ן הַבַּ֔עַל הָרְג֖וּ לִפְנֵ֣י הַֽמִּזְבְּח֑וֹת וַיָּ֧שֶׂם הַכֹּהֵ֛ן פְּקֻדּ֖וֹת עַל־בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  19 וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֶת־שָׂרֵ֣י הַ֠מֵּאוֹת וְאֶת־הַכָּרִ֨י וְאֶת־הָרָצִ֜ים וְאֵ֣ת ׀ כָּל־עַ֣ם הָאָ֗רֶץ וַיֹּרִ֤ידוּ אֶת־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ מִבֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּב֛וֹאוּ דֶּֽרֶך־שַׁ֥עַר הָרָצִ֖ים בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב עַל־כִּסֵּ֥א הַמְּלָכִֽים׃

  2 בִּשְׁנַת־שֶׁ֤בַע לְיֵהוּא֙ מָלַ֣ךְ יְהוֹאָ֔שׁ וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ צִבְיָ֖ה מִבְּאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע׃

  4 רַ֥ק הַבָּמ֖וֹת לֹא־סָ֑רוּ ע֥וֹד הָעָ֛ם מְזַבְּחִ֥ים וּֽמְקַטְּרִ֖ים בַּבָּמֽוֹת׃
  
  5 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוֹאָ֜שׁ אֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים כֹּל֩ כֶּ֨סֶף הַקֳּדָשִׁ֜ים אֲשֶׁר־יוּבָ֤א בֵית־יְהוָה֙ כֶּ֣סֶף עוֹבֵ֔ר אִ֕ישׁ כֶּ֥סֶף נַפְשׁ֖וֹת עֶרְכּ֑וֹ כָּל־כֶּ֗סֶף אֲשֶׁ֤ר יַֽעֲלֶה֙ עַ֣ל לֶב־אִ֔ישׁ לְהָבִ֖יא בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  6 יִקְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים אִ֖ישׁ מֵאֵ֣ת מַכָּר֑וֹ וְהֵ֗ם יְחַזְּקוּ֙ אֶת־בֶּ֣דֶק הַבַּ֔יִת לְכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־יִמָּצֵ֥א שָׁ֖ם בָּֽדֶק׃
  
  7 וַיְהִ֗י בִּשְׁנַ֨ת עֶשְׂרִ֧ים וְשָׁלֹ֛שׁ שָׁנָ֖ה לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ יְהוֹאָ֑שׁ לֹֽא־חִזְּק֥וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים אֶת־בֶּ֥דֶק הַבָּֽיִת׃
  
  8 וַיִּקְרָא֩ הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ יְהוֹאָ֜שׁ לִיהוֹיָדָ֤ע הַכֹּהֵן֙ וְלַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם מַדּ֛וּעַ אֵינְכֶ֥ם מְחַזְּקִ֖ים אֶת־בֶּ֣דֶק הַבָּ֑יִת וְעַתָּ֗ה אַל־תִּקְחוּ־כֶ֙סֶף֙ מֵאֵ֣ת מַכָּֽרֵיכֶ֔ם כִּֽי־לְבֶ֥דֶק הַבַּ֖יִת תִּתְּנֻֽהוּ׃
  
  9 וַיֵּאֹ֖תוּ הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֑ים לְבִלְתִּ֤י קְחַת־כֶּ֙סֶף֙ מֵאֵ֣ת הָעָ֔ם וּלְבִלְתִּ֥י חַזֵּ֖ק אֶת־בֶּ֥דֶק הַבָּֽיִת׃
  
  10 וַיִּקַּ֞ח יְהוֹיָדָ֤ע הַכֹּהֵן֙ אֲר֣וֹן אֶחָ֔ד וַיִּקֹּ֥ב חֹ֖ר בְּדַלְתּ֑וֹ וַיִּתֵּ֣ן אֹתוֹ֩ אֵ֨צֶל הַמִּזְבֵּ֜חַ *בימין **מִיָּמִ֗ין בְּבֽוֹא־אִישׁ֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וְנָֽתְנוּ־שָׁ֤מָּה הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ שֹׁמְרֵ֣י הַסַּ֔ף אֶת־כָּל־הַכֶּ֖סֶף הַמּוּבָ֥א בֵית־יְהוָֽה׃
  
  11 וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּרְאוֹתָ֔ם כִּֽי־רַ֥ב הַכֶּ֖סֶף בָּֽאָר֑וֹן וַיַּ֨עַל סֹפֵ֤ר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְהַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּד֔וֹל וַיָּצֻ֙רוּ֙ וַיִּמְנ֔וּ אֶת־הַכֶּ֖סֶף הַנִּמְצָ֥א בֵית־יְהוָֽה׃
  
  12 וְנָתְנוּ֙ אֶת־הַכֶּ֣סֶף הַֽמְתֻכָּ֔ן עַל־*יד **יְדֵי֙ עֹשֵׂ֣י הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה *הפקדים **הַמֻּפְקָדִ֖ים בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה וַיּוֹצִיאֻ֜הוּ לְחָרָשֵׁ֤י הָעֵץ֙ וְלַבֹּנִ֔ים הָעֹשִׂ֖ים בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  13 וְלַגֹּֽדְרִים֙ וּלְחֹצְבֵ֣י הָאֶ֔בֶן וְלִקְנ֤וֹת עֵצִים֙ וְאַבְנֵ֣י מַחְצֵ֔ב לְחַזֵּ֖ק אֶת־בֶּ֣דֶק בֵּית־יְהוָ֑ה וּלְכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־יֵצֵ֥א עַל־הַבַּ֖יִת לְחָזְקָֽה׃
  
  14 אַךְ֩ לֹ֨א יֵעָשֶׂ֜ה בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֗ה סִפּ֥וֹת כֶּ֙סֶף֙ מְזַמְּר֤וֹת מִזְרָקוֹת֙ חֲצֹ֣צְר֔וֹת כָּל־כְּלִ֥י זָהָ֖ב וּכְלִי־כָ֑סֶף מִן־הַכֶּ֖סֶף הַמּוּבָ֥א בֵית־יְהוָֽה׃
  
  15 כִּֽי־לְעֹשֵׂ֥י הַמְּלָאכָ֖ה יִתְּנֻ֑הוּ וְחִזְּקוּ־ב֖וֹ אֶת־בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  16 וְלֹ֧א יְחַשְּׁב֣וּ אֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִתְּנ֤וּ אֶת־הַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ עַל־יָדָ֔ם לָתֵ֖ת לְעֹשֵׂ֣י הַמְּלָאכָ֑ה כִּ֥י בֶאֱמֻנָ֖ה הֵ֥ם עֹשִֽׂים׃
  
  17 כֶּ֤סֶף אָשָׁם֙ וְכֶ֣סֶף חַטָּא֔וֹת לֹ֥א יוּבָ֖א בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה לַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים יִהְיֽוּ׃
  
  18 אָ֣ז יַעֲלֶ֗ה חֲזָאֵל֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם וַיִּלָּ֥חֶם עַל־גַּ֖ת וַֽיִּלְכְּדָ֑הּ וַיָּ֤שֶׂם חֲזָאֵל֙ פָּנָ֔יו לַעֲל֖וֹת עַל־יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
  
  19 וַיִּקַּ֞ח יְהוֹאָ֣שׁ מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֗ה אֵ֣ת כָּל־הַקֳּדָשִׁ֡ים אֲשֶׁר־הִקְדִּ֣ישׁוּ יְהוֹשָׁפָ֣ט וִיהוֹרָם֩ וַאֲחַזְיָ֨הוּ אֲבֹתָ֜יו מַלְכֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ וְאֶת־קֳדָשָׁ֔יו וְאֵ֣ת כָּל־הַזָּהָ֗ב הַנִּמְצָ֛א בְּאֹצְר֥וֹת בֵּית־יְהוָ֖ה וּבֵ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח לַֽחֲזָאֵל֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם וַיַּ֖עַל מֵעַ֥ל יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃
  
  20 וְיֶ֛תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י יוֹאָ֖שׁ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה הֲלוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃
  
  21 וַיָּקֻ֥מוּ עֲבָדָ֖יו וַיִּקְשְׁרֽוּ־קָ֑שֶׁר וַיַּכּוּ֙ אֶת־יוֹאָ֔שׁ בֵּ֥ית מִלֹּ֖א הַיּוֹרֵ֥ד סִלָּֽא׃

  1 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
  
  2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were slain, even him and his nurse, and put them in the bedroom; and they hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain;
  
  3 He was with her hidden in the house of Yahweh six years. Athaliah reigned over the land.
  
  4 In the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into the house of Yahweh; and he made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of Yahweh, and showed them the king's son.
  
  5 He commanded them, saying, "This is the thing that you shall do: a third part of you, who come in on the Sabbath, shall be keepers of the watch of the king's house;
  
  6 A third part shall be at the gate Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard. So you shall keep the watch of the house, and be a barrier.
  
  7 The two companies of you, even all who go out on the Sabbath, shall keep the watch of the house of Yahweh around the king.
  
  8 You shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he who comes within the ranks, let him be slain. Be with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in."
  
  9 The captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath, with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
  
  10 The priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears and shields that had been king David's, which were in the house of Yahweh.
  
  11 The guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, around the king.
  
  12 Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, "Long live the king!"
  
  13 When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the house of Yahweh:
  
  14 and she looked, and behold, the king stood by the pillar, as the tradition was, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets. Then Athaliah tore her clothes, and cried, "Treason! Treason!"
  
  15 Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, "Bring her out between the ranks. Kill him who follows her with the sword." For the priest said, "Don't let her be slain in the house of Yahweh."
  
  16 So they made way for her; and she went by the way of the horses' entry to the king's house. She was slain there.
  
  17 Jehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh and the king and the people, that they should be Yahweh's people; between the king also and the people.
  
  18 All the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and broke it down; his altars and his images broke they in pieces thoroughly, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. The priest appointed officers over the house of Yahweh.
  
  19 He took the captains over hundreds, and the Carites, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of Yahweh, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king's house. He sat on the throne of the kings.
  
  20 So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. Athaliah they had slain with the sword at the king's house.
  
  21 Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.

  1 In the seventh year of Jehu began Jehoash to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
  
  2 Jehoash did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
  
  3 However the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
  
  4 Jehoash said to the priests, "All the money of the holy things that is brought into the house of Yahweh, in current money, the money of the persons for whom each man is rated, and all the money that it comes into any man's heart to bring into the house of Yahweh,
  
  5 let the priests take it to them, every man from his acquaintance; and they shall repair the breaches of the house, wherever any breach shall be found."
  
  6 But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
  
  7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, "Why don't you repair the breaches of the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for the breaches of the house."
  
  8 The priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, neither repair the breaches of the house.
  
  9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of Yahweh: and the priests who kept the threshold put therein all the money that was brought into the house of Yahweh.
  
  10 It was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags and counted the money that was found in the house of Yahweh.
  
  11 They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the house of Yahweh: and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on the house of Yahweh,
  
  12 and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the breaches of the house of Yahweh, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
  
  13 But there were not made for the house of Yahweh cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of Yahweh;
  
  14 for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired therewith the house of Yahweh.
  
  15 Moreover they didn't demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully.
  
  16 The money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings, was not brought into the house of Yahweh: it was the priests'.
  
  17 Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
  
  18 Jehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and of the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.
  
  19 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
  
  20 His servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and struck Joash at the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla.
  
  21 For Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

  1 Or Athalie, mère d'Achazia, vit que son fils était mort, et elle se leva et fit périr toute la semence royale.
  
  2 Mais Jehoshéba, fille du roi Joram, soeur d'Achazia, prit Joas, fils d'Achazia, et le déroba du milieu des fils du roi qu'on mettait à mort et le cacha, lui et sa nourrice, dans la chambre à coucher ; et on le cacha de devant Athalie, et il ne fut pas mis à mort.
  
  3 Et il fut caché six ans auprès d'elle dans la maison de l'Éternel. Et Athalie régna sur le pays.
  
  4 Et la septième année, Jehoïada envoya, et prit les chefs de centaines des gardes et des coureurs ; et il les fit entrer vers lui dans la maison de l'Éternel, et fit un pacte avec eux et les fit jurer dans la maison de l'Éternel, et leur montra le fils du roi.
  
  5 Et il leur commanda, disant : C'est ici ce que vous ferez : un tiers d'entre vous qui entrez le jour du sabbat, fera la garde de la maison du roi ;
  
  6 et un tiers sera à la porte de Sur ; et un tiers sera à la porte qui est derrière les coureurs : et vous veillerez à la garde de la maison, pour tenir à distance tout étranger.
  
  7 Et les deux tiers d'entre vous, tous ceux qui sortent le jour du sabbat, feront la garde de la maison de l'Éternel, auprès du roi.
  
  8 Et vous entourerez le roi de tous côtés, chacun ses armes à la main ; et celui qui entrera dans les rangs sera mis à mort ; et soyez avec le roi quand il sortira et quand il entrera.
  
  9 Et les chefs de centaines firent selon tout ce que Jehoïada, le sacrificateur, avait commandé ; et ils prirent chacun ses hommes, ceux qui entraient le jour du sabbat et ceux qui sortaient le jour du sabbat ; et ils vinrent auprès de Jehoïada, le sacrificateur.
  
  10 Et le sacrificateur donna aux chefs de centaines les lances et les boucliers qui avaient appartenu au roi David, et qui étaient dans la maison de l'Éternel.
  
  11 Et les coureurs se tinrent là, chacun ses armes à la main, depuis le côté droit de la maison jusqu'au côté gauche de la maison, vers l'autel et vers la maison, auprès du roi, tout autour.
  
  12 Et on fit sortir le fils du roi, et on mit sur lui la couronne et le témoignage ; et ils le firent roi, et l'oignirent, et frappèrent des mains, et dirent : Vive le roi !
  
  13 Et Athalie entendit le cri des coureurs et du peuple, et elle entra vers le peuple dans la maison de l'Éternel.
  
  14 Et elle regarda, et voici, le roi se tenait sur l'estrade, suivant l'usage, et les chefs et les trompettes étaient auprès du roi, et tout le peuple du pays se réjouissait et sonnait des trompettes. Et Athalie déchira ses vêtements, et s'écria : Conspiration ! Conspiration !
  
  15 Et Jehoïada, le sacrificateur, commanda aux chefs de centaines qui étaient préposés sur l'armée, et leur dit : Faites-la sortir en dehors des rangs, et celui qui la suivra mettez-le à mort par l'épée ; car le sacrificateur dit : Qu'elle ne soit pas mise à mort dans la maison de l'Éternel.
  
  16 Et ils lui firent place ; et elle alla par le chemin de l'entrée des chevaux dans la maison du roi, et là elle fut mise à mort.
  
  17 Et Jehoïada fit une alliance entre l'Éternel et le roi et le peuple, qu'ils seraient le peuple de l'Éternel, -et entre le roi et le peuple.
  
  18 Et tout le peuple du pays entra dans la maison de Baal, et ils la démolirent ; ses autels et ses images, ils les brisèrent entièrement ; et ils tuèrent devant les autels Matthan, sacrificateur de Baal. Et le sacrificateur établit des gardes sur la maison de l'Éternel.
  
  19 Et il prit les chefs de centaines, et les gardes, et les coureurs, et tout le peuple du pays, et ils firent descendre le roi de la maison de l'Éternel, et entrèrent dans la maison du roi par le chemin de la porte des coureurs ; et il s'assit sur le trône des rois.
  
  20 Et tout le peuple du pays se réjouit, et la ville fut tranquille : et ils avaient mis à mort Athalie par l'épée, dans la maison du roi.
  
  21 Joas était âgé de sept ans lorsqu'il commença de régner.

  1 La septième année de Jéhu, Joas commença de régner ; et il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem ; et le nom de sa mère était Tsibia, de Beër-Shéba.
  
  2 Et Joas fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, tous les jours que Jehoïada, le sacrificateur, l'instruisit.
  
  3 Seulement les hauts lieux ne furent pas ôtés ; le peuple sacrifiait encore et faisait fumer de l'encens sur les hautes lieux.
  
  4 Et Joas dit aux sacrificateurs : Tout l'argent des choses saintes qui est apporté dans la maison de l'Éternel, l'argent de tout homme qui passe par le dénombrement, l'argent des âmes selon l'estimation de chacun, tout argent qu'il monte au coeur de chacun d'apporter dans la maison de l'Éternel,
  
  5 que les sacrificateurs le prennent, chacun de la part des gens de sa connaissance, et qu'ils réparent les brèches de la maison, partout où il se trouvera des brèches.
  
  6 Et il arriva, la vingt-trois année du roi Joas, que les sacrificateurs n'avaient point réparé les brèches de la maison.
  
  7 Et le roi Joas appela Jehoïada, le sacrificateur, et les autres sacrificateurs, et il leur dit : Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas réparé les brèches de la maison ? Et maintenant, ne prenez pas d'argent de vos connaissances, mais vous le donnerez pour les brèches de la maison.
  
  8 Et les sacrificateurs consentirent à ne plus prendre d'argent de la part du peuple, et que seulement on réparât les brèches de la maison.
  
  9 Et Jehoïada, le sacrificateur, prit un coffre et fit un trou dans son couvercle, et le mit à côté de l'autel, à droite quand on entre dans la maison de l'Éternel ; et les sacrificateurs qui gardaient le seuil mettaient là tout l'argent qui était apporté à la maison de l'Éternel.
  
  10 Et il arrivait que, lorsqu'ils voyaient qu'il y avait beaucoup d'argent dans le coffre, le secrétaire du roi montait, et le grand sacrificateur, et ils serraient et comptaient l'argent qui était trouvé dans la maison de l'Éternel ;
  
  11 et ils remettaient l'argent pesé entre les mains de ceux qui faisaient l'ouvrage, qui étaient établis sur la maison de l'Éternel, et ceux-ci le livraient aux charpentiers et aux constructeurs qui travaillaient à la maison de l'Éternel,
  
  12 et aux maçons, et aux tailleurs de pierres, pour acheter des bois et des pierres de taille, afin de réparer les brèches de la maison de l'Éternel, et pour tout ce qui se dépensait pour la maison afin de la réparer.
  
  13 Toutefois on ne fit pas pour la maison de l'Éternel des écuelles d'argent, des couteaux, des bassins, des trompettes, ni aucun ustensile d'or ou ustensile d'argent, avec l'argent qu'on apportait dans la maison de l'Éternel ;
  
  14 mais on le donnait à ceux qui faisaient l'ouvrage, et ils l'employaient à réparer la maison de l'Éternel.
  
  15 Et on ne comptait pas avec les hommes entre les mains desquels on remettait l'argent pour le donner à ceux qui faisaient l'ouvrage, car ils agissaient fidèlement.
  
  16 L'argent des sacrifices pour le délit et l'argent des sacrifices pour le péché n'était point apporté dans la maison de l'Éternel ; il était pour les sacrificateurs.
  
  17 Alors Hazaël, roi de Syrie, monta, et fit la guerre contre Gath, et la prit ; et Hazaël tourna sa face pour monter contre Jérusalem.
  
  18 Et Joas, roi de Juda, prit toutes les choses saintes, que Josaphat, et Joram, et Achazia, ses pères, rois de Juda, avaient consacrées, et celles qu'il avait lui-même consacrées, et tout l'or qui se trouvait dans les trésors de la maison de l'Éternel et de la maison du roi, et les envoya à Hazaël, roi de Syrie : et il se retira de devant Jérusalem.
  
  19 Et le reste des actes de Joas, et tout ce qu'il fit, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des chroniques des rois de Juda ?
  
  20 Et ses serviteurs se levèrent et firent une conspiration, et frappèrent Joas dans la maison de Millo, à la descente de Silla.
  
  21 Et Jozacar, fils de Shimhath, et Jozabad, fils de Shomer, ses serviteurs, le frappèrent, et il mourut ; et on l'enterra avec ses pères dans la ville de David. Et Amatsia, son fils, régna à sa place.
