  1 Au septième mois, Ismaël, fils de Nethania, fils d'Élischama, de la race royale, vint avec des grands du roi et dix hommes auprès de Guedalia, fils d'Achikam, à Mitspa. Là, ils mangèrent ensemble à Mitspa.
  
  2 Alors Ismaël, fils de Nethania, se leva avec les dix hommes dont il était accompagné, et ils frappèrent avec l'épée Guedalia, fils d'Achikam, fils de Schaphan ; il fit ainsi mourir celui que le roi de Babylone avait établi gouverneur du pays.
  
  3 Ismaël tua encore tous les juifs qui étaient auprès de Guedalia à Mitspa, et les Chaldéens qui se trouvaient là, les gens de guerre.
  
  4 Le second jour après l'assassinat de Guedalia, tandis que personne n'en savait rien,
  
  5 il arriva de Sichem, de Silo et de Samarie, quatre-vingts hommes, qui avaient la barbe rasée et les vêtements déchirés, et qui s'étaient fait des incisions ; ils portaient des offrandes et de l'encens, pour les présenter à la maison de l'Éternel.
  
  6 Ismaël, fils de Nethania, sortit de Mitspa au-devant d'eux ; il marchait en pleurant. Lorsqu'il les rencontra, il leur dit : Venez vers Guedalia, fils d'Achikam.
  
  7 Et quand ils furent au milieu de la ville, Ismaël, fils de Nethania, les égorgea et les jeta dans la citerne, avec l'aide des gens qui l'accompagnaient.
  
  8 Mais il se trouva parmi eux dix hommes, qui dirent à Ismaël : Ne nous fais pas mourir, car nous avons des provisions cachées dans les champs, du froment, de l'orge, de l'huile et du miel. Alors il les épargna, et ne les fit pas mourir avec leurs frères.
  
  9 La citerne dans laquelle Ismaël jeta tous les cadavres des hommes qu'il tua près de Guedalia est celle qu'avait construite le roi Asa, lorsqu'il craignait Baescha, roi d'Israël ; c'est cette citerne qu'Ismaël, fils de Nethania, remplit de cadavres.
  
  10 Ismaël fit prisonniers tous ceux qui restaient à Mitspa, les filles du roi et tous ceux du peuple qui y demeuraient, et que Nebuzaradan, chef des gardes, avait confiés à Guedalia, fils d'Achikam ; Ismaël, fils de Nethania, les emmena captifs, et partit pour passer chez les Ammonites.
  
  11 Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les chefs des troupes qui étaient avec lui, furent informés de tout le mal qu'avait fait Ismaël, fils de Nethania.
  
  12 Ils prirent tous les hommes, et se mirent en marche pour attaquer Ismaël, fils de Nethania. Ils le trouvèrent près des grandes eaux de Gabaon.
  
  13 Quand tout le peuple qui était avec Ismaël vit Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les chefs des troupes avec lui, il en eut de la joie ;
  
  14 et tout le peuple qu'Ismaël avait emmené de Mitspa se retourna, et vint se joindre à Jochanan, fils de Karéach.
  
  15 Mais Ismaël, fils de Nethania, se sauva avec huit hommes devant Jochanan, et alla chez les Ammonites.
  
  16 Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les chefs des troupes qui étaient avec lui, prirent tout le reste du peuple, et le délivrèrent des mains d'Ismaël, fils de Nethania, lorsqu'il l'emmenait de Mitspa, après avoir tué Guedalia, fils d'Achikam. Hommes de guerre, femmes, enfants, eunuques, Jochanan les ramena depuis Gabaon.
  
  17 Ils se mirent en marche, et s'arrêtèrent à l'hôtellerie de Kimham près de Bethléhem, pour se retirer ensuite en Égypte,
  
  18 loin des Chaldéens dont ils avaient peur, parce qu'Ismaël, fils de Nethania, avait tué Guedalia, fils d'Achikam, que le roi de Babylone avait établi gouverneur du pays.

  1 Durant le septième mois, Ismaël, fils de Nethania et petit-fils d'Elishama, qui était de sang royal, vint avec des hauts dignitaires du roi et dix hommes trouver Guedalia, fils d'Achikam, à Mitspa. Et là, à Mitspa, ils mangèrent ensemble.
  
  2 Puis Ismaël, fils de Nethania, se leva avec les dix hommes qui l’accompagnaient, et ils tuèrent avec leur épée Guedalia, fils d'Achikam et petit-fils de Shaphan. Ismaël fit ainsi mourir l’homme que le roi de Babylone avait désigné gouverneur du pays.
  
  3 Il tua aussi tous les Juifs qui étaient avec Guedalia à Mitspa ainsi que les Babyloniens qui se trouvaient là, des hommes de guerre.
  
  4 Le surlendemain de l'assassinat de Guedalia, alors que personne n’était encore au courant,
  
  5 arrivèrent de Sichem, de Silo et de Samarie 80 hommes qui avaient la barbe rasée et les habits déchirés et qui s'étaient fait des incisions. Ils étaient porteurs d’offrandes et d'encens destinés à la maison de l'Eternel.
  
  6 Ismaël, fils de Nethania, sortit de Mitspa pour aller à leur rencontre. Il marchait en pleurant. Lorsqu'il les eut rejoints, il leur dit : « Venez vers Guedalia, fils d'Achikam. »
  
  7 Lorsqu’ils arrivèrent au milieu de la ville, Ismaël, fils de Nethania, les égorgea et les jeta dans la citerne, avec l'aide de ceux qui l'accompagnaient.
  
  8 Cependant, il y eut parmi eux dix hommes qui dirent à Ismaël : « Ne nous fais pas mourir, car nous avons des provisions cachées dans les champs, du blé, de l'orge, de l'huile et du miel. » Alors il renonça à les faire mourir avec leurs frères.
  
  9 La citerne dans laquelle Ismaël jeta tous les cadavres des hommes qu'il avait tués, à côté de celui de Guedalia, était celle qu'avait construite le roi Asa à cause de Baesha, roi d'Israël. C’est cette citerne qu'Ismaël, fils de Nethania, remplit de morts.
  
  10 Il emmena de force tous ceux qui restaient à Mitspa : les filles du roi et tout le peuple qui y était resté, ceux que Nebuzaradan, le chef des gardes, avait confiés à Guedalia, fils d'Achikam. Ismaël, fils de Nethania, les emmena prisonniers et partit rejoindre le camp des Ammonites.
  
  11 Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les chefs de troupes qui étaient avec lui furent informés de tout le mal qu'avait fait Ismaël, fils de Nethania.
  
  12 Ils prirent tous leurs hommes et se mirent en marche pour attaquer Ismaël, fils de Nethania. Ils le découvrirent près des grands réservoirs de Gabaon.
  
  13 En voyant Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les chefs de troupes qui l’accompagnaient, tout le peuple qui suivait Ismaël se réjouit.
  
  14 Tous ceux qu'Ismaël avait emmenés de force de Mitspa firent demi-tour et vinrent se joindre à Jochanan, fils de Karéach.
  
  15 Quant à Ismaël, fils de Nethania, il s’enfuit avec huit hommes devant Jochanan et se réfugia chez les Ammonites.
  
  16 Jochanan, fils de Karéach, et tous les chefs des troupes qui étaient avec lui prirent en charge tout ce qui restait du peuple après l’avoir délivré d'Ismaël, fils de Nethania. Ce dernier l’avait forcé à quitter Mitspa, après l’assassinat de Guedalia, fils d'Achikam. Jochanan ramena de Gabaon des hommes de guerre, des femmes, des enfants et des eunuques.
  
  17 Ils marchèrent puis s'arrêtèrent dans un lieu d’accueil du nom de Kimham, à côté de Bethléhem, pour se retirer ensuite en Egypte,
  
  18 loin des Babyloniens. Ils redoutaient la réaction de ces derniers parce qu'Ismaël, fils de Nethania, avait tué Guedalia, fils d'Achikam, l’homme que le roi de Babylone avait désigné gouverneur du pays.

  1 Now it happened in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they ate bread together in Mizpah.
  
  2 Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
  
  3 Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.
  
  4 It happened the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,
  
  5 that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even eighty men, having their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with meal offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Yahweh.
  
  6 Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it happened, as he met them, he said to them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.
  
  7 It was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah killed them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men who were with him.
  
  8 But ten men were found among those who said to Ishmael, Don't kill us; for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he stopped, and didn't kill them among their brothers.
  
  9 Now the pit in which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedaliah (the same was who which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel), Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were killed.
  
  10 Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people who were in Mizpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam; Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.
  
  11 But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
  
  12 then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.
  
  13 Now it happened that, when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, then they were glad.
  
  14 So all the people who Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.
  
  15 But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.
  
  16 Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon:
  
  17 and they departed, and lived in Geruth Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,
  
  18 because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor over the land.

  2 וַיָּקָם֩ יִשְׁמָעֵ֨אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֜ה וַעֲשֶׂ֥רֶת הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים ׀ אֲשֶׁר־הָי֣וּ אִתּ֗וֹ וַ֠יַּכּוּ אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֨הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָ֧ם בֶּן־שָׁפָ֛ן בַּחֶ֖רֶב וַיָּ֣מֶת אֹת֑וֹ אֲשֶׁר־הִפְקִ֥יד מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל בָּאָֽרֶץ׃
  
  3 וְאֵ֣ת כָּל־הַיְּהוּדִ֗ים אֲשֶׁר־הָי֨וּ אִתּ֤וֹ אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ בַּמִּצְפָּ֔ה וְאֶת־הַכַּשְׂדִּ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִמְצְאוּ־שָׁ֑ם אֵ֚ת אַנְשֵׁ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה הִכָּ֖ה יִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃
  
  4 וַיְהִ֛י בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשֵּׁנִ֖י לְהָמִ֣ית אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֑הוּ וְאִ֖ישׁ לֹ֥א יָדָֽע׃
  
  5 וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ אֲ֠נָשִׁים מִשְּׁכֶ֞ם מִשִּׁל֤וֹ וּמִשֹּֽׁמְרוֹן֙ שְׁמֹנִ֣ים אִ֔ישׁ מְגֻלְּחֵ֥י זָקָ֛ן וּקְרֻעֵ֥י בְגָדִ֖ים וּמִתְגֹּֽדְדִ֑ים וּמִנְחָ֤ה וּלְבוֹנָה֙ בְּיָדָ֔ם לְהָבִ֖יא בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃
  
  6 וַ֠יֵּצֵא יִשְׁמָעֵ֨אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֤ה לִקְרָאתָם֙ מִן־הַמִּצְפָּ֔ה הֹלֵ֥ךְ הָלֹ֖ךְ וּבֹכֶ֑ה וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּפְגֹ֣שׁ אֹתָ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם בֹּ֖אוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֥הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָֽם׃
  
  7 וַיְהִ֕י כְּבוֹאָ֖ם אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הָעִ֑יר וַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֞ם יִשְׁמָעֵ֤אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה֙ אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הַבּ֔וֹר ה֖וּא וְהָאֲנָשִׁ֥ים אֲשֶׁר־אִתּֽוֹ׃
  
  8 וַעֲשָׂרָ֨ה אֲנָשִׁ֜ים נִמְצְאוּ־בָ֗ם וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ אֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ אַל־תְּמִתֵ֔נוּ כִּֽי־יֶשׁ־לָ֤נוּ מַטְמֹנִים֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה חִטִּ֥ים וּשְׂעֹרִ֖ים וְשֶׁ֣מֶן וּדְבָ֑שׁ וַיֶּחְדַּ֕ל וְלֹ֥א הֱמִיתָ֖ם בְּת֥וֹךְ אֲחֵיהֶֽם׃

  10 וַיִּ֣שְׁבְּ ׀ יִ֠שְׁמָעֵאל אֶת־כָּל־שְׁאֵרִ֨ית הָעָ֜ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּמִּצְפָּ֗ה אֶת־בְּנ֤וֹת הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־הָעָם֙ הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֣ים בַּמִּצְפָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִפְקִ֗יד נְבֽוּזַרְאֲדָן֙ רַב־טַבָּחִ֔ים אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֑ם וַיִּשְׁבֵּם֙ יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֔ה וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ לַעֲבֹ֖ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃
  
  11 וַיִּשְׁמַע֙ יוֹחָנָ֣ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וְכָל־שָׂרֵ֥י הַחֲיָלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ אֵ֤ת כָּל־הָֽרָעָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה יִשְׁמָעֵ֖אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָֽה׃
  
  12 וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אֶת־כָּל־הָ֣אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם עִם־יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֑ה וַיִּמְצְא֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ אֶל־מַ֥יִם רַבִּ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃
  
  13 וַיְהִ֗י כִּרְא֤וֹת כָּל־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵ֔אל אֶת־יֽוֹחָנָן֙ בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וְאֵ֛ת כָּל־שָׂרֵ֥י הַחֲיָלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ וַיִּשְׂמָֽחוּ׃
  
  14 וַיָּסֹ֙בּוּ֙ כָּל־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־שָׁבָ֥ה יִשְׁמָעֵ֖אל מִן־הַמִּצְפָּ֑ה וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ אֶל־יֽוֹחָנָ֖ן בֶּן־קָרֵֽחַ׃
  
  15 וְיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֗ה נִמְלַט֙ בִּשְׁמֹנָ֣ה אֲנָשִׁ֔ים מִפְּנֵ֖י יֽוֹחָנָ֑ן וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃

  17 וַיֵּלְכ֗וּ וַיֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙ בְּגֵר֣וּת *כמוהם **כִּמְהָ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־אֵ֖צֶל בֵּ֣ית לָ֑חֶם לָלֶ֖כֶת לָב֥וֹא מִצְרָֽיִם׃
